Not that good. Crab Rangoon was the only tasty thing I had! Fried rice was flavorless! After seeing the article about someone chopping up meat outside, I’ll never eat here again! Ewww!

NOPE!!! HOUSTON — Several pictures emailed to Channel 2 showing a woman cutting meat on a 2×4 outside a Montgomery County restaurant Monday have led to concerns and questions. According to the Montgomery Count Health Department, inspectors returned to J.J. China Diner on U.S. 59 near Northpark Drive Tuesday after seeing the photos. Is this common practice here, and where exactly did this meat wind up? Reporter Keith Garvin and photographer Rolando Hinojosa went inside restaurant to find out. The on-duty manager actually let us inside the kitchen to show us what he says are the only places the restaurant cuts its meat. «We never cut stuff outside the door because it’s like nasty you know,» says manager Jason Zang. «We always cut it at a cleaning station.» Zang says the woman seen in the photo in the back of the restaurant around noon Monday was an out-of-town relative of one of the kitchen workers. He claims the meat belonged to the family and they came to the restaurant to use an instrument to cut it and then take it home. He says the meat never wound up in any of the restaurant’s dishes. «Once it has arrived, the main requirement is that it has to be properly handled, properly prepared, properly stored,» Chief of Administration Conrad Janus of the Houston Health Department said. The diner falls just north of the HHD’s jurisdiction, Janus said there are standard in place across the country that regulate where meat comes from and how it is processed. «That would not be allowed anywhere in the United States,» Janus said. «I can’t imagine any jurisdiction allowing that. Even using a 2×4 as a cutting surface inside is not allowed. There is specific and limited uses for wood in the establishment. That in itself would be a violation.»

I hope you’re hungry. The servings are plentiful. And just a tip, if you like crab Rangoon, get it. It is so good. Homemade, or at least it tastes like it.

The general tso chicken chunks are way too large and very dry, tough and chewy. Also, the rice is a little on the salty side. The chicken wings aren’t bad and the atmosphere if you’re eating in, is very nice.

Great lunch specials available 7 days a week. Very affordable prices. The steamed dumplings were amazing and the soup was better than any of the other Chinese places in the area. My only complaint was the service was really slow. Our drinks sat empty till we were able to flag someone down.

I’m just going to be straight and to the point, this was the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had and this is coming from someone who knows good Chinese food so I know better, I will never eat here again.

JJ China Diner I ignored since they have opened back in 2014 because I thought this was another mediocre Chinese restaurant like everywhere else in a 10 mile radius but in the past several months I have been here quite a few times and I have grown to like this place each time I come to dine or take out. the food here is not excellent but its good & delicious. their single order are portion for two people but I’m not complaining! who doesn’t love bang for their buck when you can get a lot for a little. two single orders I can probably feed a family of 4 – 5 save yourself some money while doing this, they also offer family dinners for 2 family and dinners for up to 7 people so a family of 2 can feed about 6 people it all depends on how certain people like to eat. as for the food I’ve had several items on the menu and my top 2 dishes is the shrimp lo mein and the sesame chicken in brown sauce these two I recommend, the shrimp lo mein is bomb! some of the best lo mein I’ve eaten in a long time and the shrimp are a nice size cooked well also I’ve had the combination lo mein that has beef, chicken & shrimp and chicken lo mein, these lo mein dishes are good but I prefer the shrimp over all. the sesame chicken in brown sauce is delicious their boneless white meat chunks which you get about 6 pieces in an order. other good dishes I’ve eaten like chicken & broccoli, kung pao shrimp, shrimp & chicken cashew, chicken & veggies in brown sauce are all good to name a few. I’m a little surprise to see that they have quite a few curry dishes and Thai dishes on the menu, now as far as Thai I’ve tried the shrimp pad Thai it’s not authentic but was good I can say it was a generic version from authentic, but I look forward to explore their curry’s and other Thai dishes. for apps and soups I’ve had crab Rangoon, vegetable spring rolls, wanton soup, and egg drop soup and they are all delicious and goes good pairing with your meal. the place has some comfy seating for dine in, the place is clean. this place also has flat screen tv’s on the wall and they have enough seating to accommodate a small group of people. good place for some good Chinese. I will continue to keep coming back.

Posted on Unilocal, Tripadvisor, KTRH Houston Radio webpage, your company website, my own FB page, and now your page: I’ll start out by saying I loved your food, loved your prices, and loved the consistency. Been spending money with you since your doors opened — so nice to have a decent Asian option in the area. I’ll end by saying that as long as you have a 30.06(NO concealed carry) sign in your window you will never again see another dollar from me and I will pass the word around. Hopefully, you guys are just confused about the legal requirements since you have NOT posted a 30.07(NO open carry) sign, yet have posted a 30.06(NO concealed carry). If you don’t want open carry in your restaurant — that’s fine — we all understand that. However, if you take away my ability to defend myself, my family, or YOU by posting this 30.06 sign, I will do whatever I can to take away your ability to operate. You have your rights, I have mine. Be reasonable. I hope you will reconsider your signage posting — remember that criminals don’t care about signs — that’s why they are criminals. You’re only taking away the liberties of law abiding citizens who might save your life one day. Feel free to message me if you like. ~ D TXCHL Instructor NRA Certified Instructor

Good news: convenient, decent price, & good portions. My Gen Tso chicken was very good and the sauce was delicious. Service was good outside of the waitress barely didn’t understand English or what we were trying to explain that we were sharing it all. Bad news: wife got lo mien chicken, son got chicken broccoli, & I got Gen Tso chicken. On the Lo Mien & Chicken Broccoli, the chicken was rubbery to me. Wife/son thought it was ok so maybe it was just me & they didn’t want to complain & were really hungry. Would recommend but stick with what you’d normally like and compare to other Chinese restaurants.

The short and sweet version: ======================= Large portions of edible food delivered quickly. The long of it: =========== We recently moved into the area and were looking for a place that delivered Chinese food. JJ’s is located less than a mile away, so we decided to give them a shot. We ordered our usual to be able to compare it to other places we’ve eaten. To put it bluntly … The food was barely average from a flavor perspective. The quality was average. The General’s chicken was bland, almost flavorless with little sauce and no spice. The fried rice was bland and not very fried. The spring roll was good but bland. On the good side, despite being bland, it didn’t taste salty either. One strange thing though. Their General Tso’s Chicken was startling because it contained many identically huge round solid balls of chicken. It made me think: of the chickens from Mysterious Island or the Food of the Gods. LOL. It was strange like some kind of strange genetic chicken or just a giant chicken nugget meat glued together. I don’t know. We’ll give them another shot to see if it was an unusual night.

I’ve picked up food from here a couple of times, but never remember to write a review. The food is just so-so. I do like their online ordering system though. This last time I ordered fried dumplings and kung pao chicken. When I opened the dumpling container I remembered that I ordered these before and hated them LOL. That’s why you should write Unilocal reviews, to help you remember these things! The dough was really thick, and the dumplings were very greasy. The filling was good, but it was hard to get past the thick greasy dough. Ugh. The kung pao chicken tasted good, but there were zero vegetables. I don’t think I’ve ever had it without there being some celery, or onions, or peppers, or something. But not here. I wasn’t expecting that, so was disappointed. My dog stole the container of rice and ate most of it when I forgot and left it on my sofa, but the little I did have left was good. Kind of hard to mess up steamed white rice, but I’ve been places that can. In the past I’ve had the general tsao’s chicken which was also just okay, and then honestly I don’t remember what else I ordered, so clearly it wasn’t anything memorable. It’s convenient to order and pick up, so I might try some other options, just making sure to avoid those icky dumplings!!!

JJ China Diner has the best online ordering system I have ever encountered! So easy to use! Just a few clicks and you have your order just the way you want it. Change the level of spice, swap the white rice for brown rice, they even have a comment place to leave instructions like«no onions» or whatever. Plus, you get a clearly written summary of everything you ordered to confirm it all. I was very impressed. Then when the delicious food arrived in less than 30 minutes I was blown away! Will definitely be using this order system to get yummy JJ China Diner dinner again. BTW, the Thai Chicken with Basil and Chilies was wonderful– very flavorful and fresh tasting!

I think this restaurant is on par with the other local Chinese restaurants. I like that their menu has more menu items than your traditional American Chinese food. I once had crab rangoon here that obviously been cook a while before I orderd them. The portions are good sized, you won’t go hungry. The restaurant is nice and clean. Service is quick and the staff is friendly.

Came by for lunch and the prices are Great! We stayed a few mins to chat after we paid our bill and they kind of made us feel like we needed to get going. However the food is really good! The restaurant is a decent size and very clean. We had the chicken wings, a pot of hot tea, spring rolls and General Tso’s Chicken. The General Tso’s chicken was very sweet. The chicken was huge balls, never seen that before. The fried chicken appetizer is great(fried perfectly). I will return because of the food, not so much the service. I would give it a 4 if the service was better!

So far so good! The restaurant itself was very nice on the inside, and the wait staff was pretty pleasant. I had to keep my order small and as I was deciding, the waitress was explaining to me each dish, so I liked their help. I had a customer personally recommend the Thai Basil Chicken and Chillies, but I ordered the Thai Ginger Fish instead, and it was awesome!!! The crunch in the fried fish was great, and the sauce had a nice kick, too! The only thing that I would recommend is that if you get it to go, you should probably have the fish wrapped separately so that it doesn’t get soggy. I also asked for some more rice, and they have it to me for free

Decent American-Chinese food with good service. The food was hot and tasty when it arrived. I think this is a good spot to stop and grab a bite in the evenings or while out shopping. Hub and I were both pleased. I very much enjoyed chatting with the servers as they were sweet and interested in food as well.

I discovered this place in a strip mall in front of a grocery store. It’s not terribly visible, but it was new and it sounded like it would hit the spot. This isn’t a buffet, but a casual Chinese restaurant. I’d almost call it pan-Asian, because there are some Thai dishes in here as well. The food was some of the best Chinese in the area, and the price was just right. A $ 6.75 lunch special got me soup and an entrée. The entrée size was what I would have expected off a dinner order. And my sister, who actually did order a regular entrée had a plate of food so big she almost overfilled her«to-go» box! Service was really friendly and FAST. Good food, good prices, great portion sizes and service. Why not?
