Food and coffee were good. However I can’t get behind a place that relies so much on disposable dish ware. This place is so cozy and inviting, why make me drink my coffee out of a gross paper cup? Or serve your wonderful homemade granola in plastic? Not to mention the impact the plastic waste will have on that wonderful coastal view. While I do make a point of supporting local businesses, I also make a point of voting with my hard earned dollars. I vote NO on disposables. Sadly, I will not be back until I see real dishware :(

I am not sure what this place is trying to be. And I don’t think anyone else does either, because every time I drive by, the parking lot is empty even during busy hours. Down the road at Beach Pea you can’t even get a parking spot. Same for Lil’s. I have stopped in 3 previous times since they opened and strangely walked out not having tried anything. Nothing in the bakery case seemed appealing.(Ditto the same experience from a friend of mine.) But today I wanted to have some soup and thought I would give them a 4th try. I know food and something inside me prompted this question to the staff, «Do you make your own soup?» Well the answer came back no, and in fact they are commercially made in a very big food factory that also produces food for Panera and many other chains. A quick look at this companies website and extremely long list of questionable ingredients made me very disappointed in what I just eaten,(which did not even taste good.) Lot’s of various sweeteners, thickening agents, flavorings, and highly processed ingredients, with sodium levels that were sky-high. Not at all what I expected from a small local café where one hopes to find healthy and delicious house-made menu items. It is no wonder the place is always empty of patrons despite the great location.

For quality alone they deserve 3*, but when you consider that most every item is 30% more expensive than local competition, they get 1. I would like to see a small coffee shop like this succeed, but they are a recipe for failure. I have had 2 different friends with similarly poor experiences. You are much better off going to Lil’s, Beachpea, or Breaking New Grounds.

Bought the mini whoopie pies for a baby shower and I was totally embarrassed! They were about as stale as could be and no one at the shower ate them! Also when we walked in to buy them the owner was not very friendly! Wouldn’t go there again or recommend it to anyone!

I love this place! Hazelnut ice coffee is delicious and although ice coffee seems simple to make, not all places make it as good as Kate’s. I love their breakfast pizza, yum! I don’t even like sausage but if it’s on Kate’s breakfast pizza, I will eat it(and enjoy it). Location is perfect looking over the memorial bridge. Pastries and donuts are delicious. The interior is new and clean!

Stumbled on this after walking from Portsmouth across Badger Island and taking a few steps into Kittery. A very short walk! This bakery has a beautiful riverside view. Immaculate new space with lots of room. Delicious on-site baked pastries. Prices were great and the setting spectacular. At the time the espresso machine was down so I hope they can get this fixed very soon. Then Kate’s will rate a 5th star for being a delightful place to get freshly made food and enjoy a relaxing view.

Good things first: — Very nice looking pastries and a large variety thereof in the immaculate glass cases. –Nice interior with lots of windows and open space offering a beautiful river and bridge view. Best local view from a public place aside from the crowded decks in Portsmouth. — Very clean– gleaming, in fact. Not-so-great: — No espresso, just brewed coffee. — Hot coffee is self serve with Styrofoam cups… like in a gas station. If its good coffee, paper to-go cups at least. — The radio on while the huge tv is on seems a little tacky, especially in light of a beautiful interior with really gorgeous baked goods on display. Needs to be fixed asap: –The breakfast sandwich. I was handed a Room temp english muffin w a fried egg and slice of what might have been a kraft single. 4 bucks and change. Though it was wrapped nicely it was tiny, and it didn’t taste good. It wasn’t awful, just bland and a little tough possibly pre-made a few hours earlier. Not a great value at 4 dollars. People seemed nice enough, and the goodies in the counter looked fantastic. I’ll try again in a few weeks.

Beautiful place, view is amazing, great atmosphere and food is good… but, we ordered breakfast sandwiches and we could hear the owner say from the back«but that’s it I’m not doing anymore sausage». So that’s ok no big deal. The sandwich was yummy and my one year old thought the English muffin was good as well, so we decided to order one. We were told they don’t do that. Really odd because we were eating one but with egg cheese and sausage. We probably would have even paid the same amount. Really confusing situation for a new paying customer. Maybe just a bad day, may try again but I guess not for breakfast.

We have been searching for Nitro coffee and we were so happy to find it here! Great coffee, great treats! The place itself was so clean and the service was excellent. Definitely worth stopping by!

Great little café. I get their iced coffee and caramel OMGs(little buttery shortbread cakes with a dollop of caramel in the middle, drizzled with chocolate; these are best at room temperature). I also love their sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwiches. Very nice staff. Kate is always there, working hard.

Food and coffee(quality and selection) were good. Atmosphere /décor were pretty good. Customer service was great. And views hands down the best of any coffee shop or bakery in the area. I had the breakfast(egg, sausage, cheese) pizza which I really enjoyed. My kids devoured their egg sandwiches. The cinnamon buns were cooked just right(they’ll warm them up for you). I also had the nitro ice coffee. Outstanding views of Portsmouth, customer service, and the thick natural tree stabbed table and counter tops just added to the food… thinking of going back again tomorrow!
