I had a sliced brisket sandwich, beer, and fried okra. The bbq here was good. The place was clean. The prices were reasonable. The staff was friendly. The service was fast. Which makes it even more strange that I went here for lunch on a Thursday and it was dead. On the flip side that means there’s not long lines. I will be back.

The food here is not even comparable to hospital food. It is bland, cold and just disgusting. We ordered a family bbq pack that included sausage, brisket, potato salad, green beans and rolls. We also ordered a salad(which was the best out of all of the food if I had to pick one thing). The sausage was like it had been steamed. There was ZERO flavor, it was limp and mushy. The brisket had so much fat on it that only half of it was edible — the rest of it was dry and flavorless. Potato salad was okay — not enough flavor and the green beans were overwhelmed with pepper to the point they were spicy. That was fine for myself and husband but my mother in law and kids got choked from it. The rolls aka little bricks — yuck. We all tasted one and didn’t touch them afterwards. The salad I ordered was suppose to be a signature salad. They forgot the meat and dressing entirely — I waited 10 minutes just to get a small cup of turkey. The salad to me was the best part — although I wouldn’t order it again. Also what is up with no pickles or onion? I’ve never been to a BBQ place that doesn’t offer its customers complimentary pickles and onions. Service was slow and poor. $ 65 later — my family was all like«Well we tried this place and now we at least know to go elsewhere». Lesson learned, this place is not true BBQ. Heck, I don’t even know if its real food period. I wouldn’t even make my worst enemy eat at this place. Cruise up to Milts, Blacks, Salt Lick, Meyers — something that is the real deal if you want some genuine TXBBQ.

This is absolutely the worst Dickey’s I’ve ever eaten at. We loved their barbecue in The Woodlands. The layout is impersonal, the staff indifferent and the food a barbecue mockery. The rolls undercooked. Used to get great potatoe salad hot peach cobbler. I’m just bummed. Don’t like writing negative reviews but this place deserves it. If this is management’s idea of expanding the stores watch out.

I ordered a turkey plate, the turkey tastes horrible, worse than hospital food. I ordered double green beans and they had so much pepper I can’t even eat them. Guess I will be starving the rest of the day. For a 12 $ lunch that is extremely disappointing

Bbq is okay. The portions you get are kids size for the price. Milts BBQ is the spot to go!

Walking up to the door the sign says fall off the bone ribs. Sounds good enough to try. Big let down. The outer was too tough to eat and inside dry chewy. Great for jerky had i ordered jerky. My husband and i were not starving enough to finish our sides. 30.00 for 2 plates. Learned our lesson at this place.

Love this place! Best BBQ in town since Railroad closed. Turkey bakers are the best!

The sides at this place are delicious. Bisquits, yummy! For a BBQ place it’s expensive for what you get. If I wanted shoe leather I’d eat my shoe because that’s what it taste like. I’ve tried this Place about 4 times giving it the benefit of the doubt. The brisket is TOUGH! I’ve explained to the men even cutting the meat if it’s cut WITH the grain instead of against the grain it will be tough ! Not even sure if that would help! Sides are good, just not the meat! I wouldn’t mind that one bit, but not sure how to do it privately ? EDITEDREVIEWOFDICKEYS We ate here on New Years Eve compliments of the Manager Sharon. I can’t compliment the service we received high enough and the food was delicious. I had a brisket plate with the potato casserole and fried okra, and hubby had chopped beef sandwich. The meat was fork tender unlike before and had a wonderful smokey taste to it. We also rounded off our dinner with warm peach cobble… DELICIOUS ! The staff was very friendly and quick to serve. This changed our opinion of Dickeys and with food and service like this we will return and tell our friends about it. Thank you Sharon. Job very well done.

I loved it, friendly competent staff greet you then they cut your meat for you as you watch. All smoked in house. We tried the Ribs they were fall off the bone tender and smokey, the sauce was great with 3 different flavored. Regular, sweet and spicy. I liked them all but settled in the spicy. It’s not to spicy, just perfect. We had the Brisket on the salad, it was equally as good and tender. Big portions too. Great place!

I don’t normally write reviews, but this place was so disappointing and time consuming that I felt I needed to warn others. There were about 7 or 8 people in front of me, and took about about 20 minutes to order. I got the«Westerner,» which is suppose to be a big sandwich with two meats. I’d say the sandwich weighs maybe a little more than a quarter pound. After waiting so long, that sandwich was a huge let down. If you want BBQ in Kyle, go to Milt’s.

My favorite thing about this chain barbecue spot are the sides. Really, really good green beans with bacon, a classic twice baked mashed potato casserole, southern style fried okra cooked when ordered and generous green salads. The various stuffed baked potatoes are huge and offer a variety of fillings from the meat menu that make a big dinner all by themselves. The baked desserts, which have been warm berry cobblers and peach and pecan pies with an a la mode option, were also mighty fine. In fact, it is hard to find just dessert and tea or coffee around here. I’m not quite sure what it is about the actual barbecued meat that is so forgettable. And to be fair, there is pretty awesome competition around these parts, even if you have to drive for it. It is ok, just not the kind of barbecue flavor you dream about. It is well-smoked, but perhaps it is the constant marinade mopping I miss. Three kinds of after the fact barbecue sauce are available. There are regular daily specials with great pricing and big Texas-sized glasses of iced tea. The ice cream cones are free with a meal.

«Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”-Randall Terry Our second to go order since they opened. The first visit(Jan. 1 after they first opened) was horribly fatty brisket that wasn’t edible. 3 years since and we finally try it again. I had to literally swipe at flys to protect my food while the guy was getting meats and cutting it. The brisket was barely okay, I’d say 2 out of 5 stars. The jap and cheese sausage was horrible. The«smoked» turkey was more thick like sliced lunch meat, but with less flavor. The dill potato salad was gross. The mustard potato salad was so so. The jap beans were really delicious. Got home and had no BBQ sauce, and it really needed it to help get it down. I hope they go out of business to make room for something better. I’d much rather have a Bill Miller or another mom and pop shop.

This is a tough review. If I could give the food 4 stars while giving the cost of it none I would.

As «fast food» barbeque goes, this is better than average. Sure, it is not top of the line BBQ, but I am a snob when it come to that. If you want fast, affordable ‘que this is a good selection.

Service has improved greatly sense the pastime I was here! Ribs a little dry but over all is 100% better than the last time I was here. I would recommend to anyone needing a little BBQ fix.

Very good food for a chain. Better than to be expected. The place is always clean and friendly staff. The free ice cream cones is a nice treat. The kids really enjoy it. So do I.

I participated in a relay race from Austin to Corpus Christi recently. One of the cities we went through was Lockhart so I had to grab some moist brisket from Black’s. I wanted to try different barbecue joints along the route, but we just did not have enough time to do so. The first thing I wanted once I got back into town was to grab some barbecue. My wife and I ended up at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit which was just a few miles away from our house. We are not a big fan of chain restaurants in general, but I often receive coupons for them via email. Dickey’s will often send me coupons for free plates or sandwiches. Dickey’s uses an industrial gas smoker which I feel like they are cheating when they do this. No one needs to tend to a fire to regulate the heat. Every time we leave the restaurant, we smell so smoky for whatever reason. I ordered the three meat plate with moist brisket, pork ribs, and polish sausage with macaroni and cheese and fries on the side. The brisket was tender and smoky but really greasy. They did not trim the brisket very well before they smoked it, and there was a lot of fat left on it when they were slicing it. The brisket did not have a lot of flavor going on though. The ribs were decent and had a sweet, smoky glaze. They were coming off the bone and a little dry. The polish sausage was a commercial sausage and was just boring. The macaroni and cheese was good, but how can you really mess that up? They were out of their regular waffle fries which I was disappointed to find out. Waffle fries always hit the spot for me. When an employee brought me steak fries, and I was like ah crap. Dickey’s is not our favorite, but it is close, fast, and cheap. I have had a pulled pork sandwich before, and it is pretty decent. I would stay away from the chicken because it is just the breast with no bones or skin. They also have free soft serve ice cream. Every time I eat barbecue, I always want ice cream later, so this works out for me. Dickey’s Barbecue Pit is a chain, so what more can you expect?

I’m from CA, so I’m not accustomed to great BBQ — consider this a gringo review. I dug this place, it had good food and fun character! I came around 2pm so it was not busy. To start the people working here were all REALLY nice. I threw myself at their mercy, I told them I wanted to experience TXBBQ, and would eat whatever they suggested. I got the pulled pork sandwich, and Jalapeño beans — tasty combo. My sandwich had lots of succulent meat(not dry), and the beans had a good zest. I especially liked their sauce station, where you could get traditional, sweet, or spicy BBQ sauce. At this same sauce station, they have HUGE pickles which are free. The vibe of the location is down home cooking, with country music playing and a cool ambiance, complete with stage wagon wheel lights hung from the ceiling and various western pictures hung on the walls, Ronald Reagan, John Wayne, etc. As mentioned, I don’t live in TX, but I felt like I had a solid meal that captured the TXBBQ vibe that I was looking for. This particular location was just what I wanted, including the odoriferous BBQ smoke smell that filled the air. My kids would have loved the FREE, sugar cone, soft swirl ice cream machine they had. I wish this place was by my house in CA, I’d be a regular, enjoyed the sandwich, the service, and the ambiance — great location!

We went there last Monday around 1 ish and the 2 guys working were THEBEST! They seemed very Southern, hospitable, and awesome.(Easy on the eyes, too!) The customer line was steady so that is always a good thing, even though at times, they seemed a bit understaffed but that unfortunately, is the way of the world nowadays as we all have come to realize… and nobody can predict how busy a day will be… so it was understandable and they truly did the best they could, all things considered. We tried that jalapeño sausage that the Mr. loved… I tried the pulled pork and the turkey. That pulled pork was excellent! They make a baked potato casserole that is delightful… Their potato salad and mac and cheese are pretty decent as well. I also saw their catering van outside and think this would be a great place to have cater an event… I really like that when you buy the yellow cup there, and bring it back, you get FREEREFILLS! So yes, you have to remember to bring it back, but that is a terrific option and we bought 2 cups because of it. The price is a bit high but that is because we bought the BBQ by the pound. They had great value sandwiches though. Just prepare yourself accordingly. I like the original BBQ sauce. They also offer sweet and hot BBQ sauces. The hot had red pepper in it and it was fine. The different BBQ flavors obviously go well on the different various meat selections… so they were all very complimentary to what you get. I deduct a star only because the way you have to get the bbq sauce is a bit cumbersome, messy, and time consuming. I wish they just put it in plastic bottles or something rather than the current set up but it is just a minor annoyance… It was very clean in there. The restroom was clean as well. We had an excellent experience. We will gladly take our yellow cups back upon our return.
