Mama Reta doing right. Great lunch. That gravy is on point y’all. The chicken and rice and corn bread and mac n cheese! Mama Reta even stopped by our table to check on us personally.

Wonderful food. Wonderful service. Great vibes. Truly food with soul! We were personally welcomed by Mama Reta The pork steak, corn bread stuffing and mustard greens were wonderful. I would recommend this place to other people and eat here again!

Wow, we were driving around in Lake Charles on a Sunday afternoon looking for some good cookin. Found the place… Mama Reta’s Kitchen. Everything is great. Food has a unique flavor and everything tastes different. Just enough heat, cornbread melts on your mouth. Fried chicken is juicy and flavorful (suggest dipping bites into the gumbo soup). We had already had a small meal but had to step in. Mama Reta is there welcoming everyone that walks in.

This place is amazing! Fried chicken was the best I had in Louisiana.

The food is exactly what you hope it will be, southern comfort food at it’s best!!! So much good food! And wonderful moist cake! The owner is absolutely precious! The food is just so delicious! You feel so welcomed and get so full! Loved it!!!

The only reason I didn’t give five stars was the length of time it took to get our food. So long we had to switch our order to take away just to get the kids home to nap.
After trying the food, that wait didn’t bother me nearly as much. We had fried chicken, greens, corn bread and cake. You could tell this wasn’t Mama Rita’s first time cooking anyone of the bunch. All were delicious. Nice to have good comfort food for lunch on Sunday!

So this has been my lunch schedule for the past 3 days:
⁴⁄₂₁: Went here for the first time and had the lunch special. It was smothered pork steak, and it was nothing short of phenomenal. You got several pieces of pork steak covered in this magnificent homemade gravy. The special came with a sweet piece of cornbread, one veggie of your choosing and a square of the «cake of the day». It was good enough that my best friend and I said «holy shit, we have to try the rest of this menu».
⁴⁄₂₂: I had their gumbo and my best friend had the lunch special (meatball stew). I’m not much of a meatball person? Both were very, very good… However, I wouldn’t call the special a «stew» as it was much more meatballs and flavorful gravy. We both left full and happy.
⁴⁄₂₃: Today was smothered chicken, and you shouldn’t be surprised to hear that it also was superb! You get a choice of white or dark meat if you’re picky like that. Regardless, you can’t go wrong with either. My only gripe is the piece of chicken you get isn’t very large. That’s fine with me. Just tell yourself «quality over quantity».
⁴⁄₂₄: I got the baked catfish and I wasn’t really impressed. It tasted like it had been sitting around all day (which is possible since I got there right before they closed). When I told them what I thought they were amazing about making sure I was happy and full. However, my best friend had one of their hamburgers and all I can say is… O! M! G! What an amazing burger! I had a bite of his and my eyes almost popped out my head… It tasted like a genuine homemade burger without the hassle of doing it yourself. I really love this place :) I just won’t be touching the baked fish again.
On our very first visit the owner (Mama Reta) came up and introduced herself and made sure we were happy. The service has been great each and every day. I’m quite sure with Mama Reta there it will be :)
There is only one special per day and the menu isn’t large by any means. They do have burgers and gumbo.
Here’s a few «heads up»:
The sodas come in cans.
The peach tea is unbelievably sweet. Like so sweet you might need a diabetic friend so you can share their insulin… Yes, it is THAT sweet!
Lunch for 2 is $ 20 with drinks.
You can’t go wrong here… Definitely give this place a shot!

Great lunch place. Fast, friendly service and delicious food! And great price too! I will be back here!
