Taz Asian Fusion

This restaurant is now closed and thank god, it was horrible.

never will go back. It has been shut down by the health dept 2 times in the last few months for roaches in the kitchen… wish I would have known that before I ate there.

I took another review here seriously so I went to Taz with great trepidation. I agree that the service is «iffy» at best. My party of three had trouble deciding on a third dish so we asked if the waitress would put in the 2 we already had decided on and come back later for the third, but she carped about this. I was ready for it due to the warning of another review so I just laughed about it. As to the food — if you are expecting real Chinese food, or other Asian cuisine, this is not the place to go. However, interesting interpretations of Chinese food were actually quite delicious. The garlic noodles really are garlicky, although the satay chicken accompanying it would not «pass muster» at a Thai restaurant. The scallops in black bean sauce with cinnamon rice were excellent (as was the flavored rice) and the egg foo yung, which attempts to duplicate the star of that restaurant site’s former occupant (China Bistro) was commendable if not on a par with its predecessor. I had been warned about the tea being in teabags (and expensive at that) and that was indeed the case so order tea at your own peril. However, all in all the three of us agreed that the food was excellent, if you can overlook the amusingly off-​kilter service and the fact that if you are seeking authentic Asian cuisine, this is not the place to go.

Terrible. Usually i pass on Asian Fusion as it’s a bad sign when different areas of Asia are combined in one restaurant but I thought I would give it a try anyway. This turned out to be one of the worst meals I have had in a very long time. I had the General Tso chicken of which I was told was lightly fried but it wad deep fat fried. Frozen wings at the grocery store taste way better than this. I also tried their lettuce wraps. Worst I have ever had. All of the sauces tasted like they were straight out of a can. Nothing was fresh or had any originality to it. I even asked for what was the best item on the menu. One person came by and asked how every thing was and I was honest (in a nice way). I heard him tell the manager that we weren’t happy and he never came over to say a word about it. I had eaten less than 5% of the meal and when the check came they charged me for it. I said I wasn’t paying for one of the entrees and to their credit they took it off the bill. My advice is stay far away from this place as it gets my vote for the worst restaurant in Laguna Beach (and I have been to nearly all of them).
