Still the best BBQ joint in denver and the macaroni and cheese are the bomb. i love this place

When you drive up to the place it looks like there should be an abandoned pickup truck or an old neglected barn rotting in the background. The truth is, this is a place that has been built around its kitchen, because that’s where the magic happens. Everything else, from the small, tacky decorated ordering area, to the randomly placed outside eating tables, to the red siding on the building to the gravel /dirt parking lot, all have the look and feel of being after-thoughts. And true barbeque lovers wouldn’t have it any other way. First and foremost, the focus of this place is to deliver the best quality meat meal you can find anywhere — period. And they consistently succeed at doing just that. If you’ve read other ‘pulled pork’ reviews I’ve done then you know that 9 out of 10 times I start my meal with an inspection of how much fat the cook allowed into my sandwich along with the meat. In all the times I’ve eaten here, the only thing I do when I get my sandwich is take a big bite and smile. If you love barbeque, don’t hesitate to make this one of your regular stops for lunch or dinner.(I would have given it 5 stars, but what would make this place just a little closer to perfect would be if it were in a comfortable, stone building with wooden floors and a raging fireplace to add to the total experience.)

I’ve heard many great things about this place. My mom and brother both love it, but I swear to god it’s never open. I’ve tried to go here a million times and they’ve either been closed or have run out of food at 3 in the afternoon. I get that you’re popular but jeez, take my money and let me eat your food!

I have KC roots, and they tend to show when I eat BBQ. Piggin’ Out is in a converted house, with a smoker out back and some seating outside. Otherwise it is pretty much a take out place. I appreciated that the sauce was served hot, and that there is a spicy option and a mild option(they taste the same at first, but then the spice creeps up on you). The gentleman running the counter was crotchety but not rude. My husband and I got the beef brisket sandwich, which was good. The bread was high quality and soft, and the meat tasted smoky and was tender. I also got the peach cobbler, which I was told is made in house. It was delicious! Spiced in a really subtle way with a cake-like crust(not crispy like I was expecting but in a good way!). Best part of the meal. My husband also got the potato salad and beans with his meal– he said the beans were the best he’d ever had(very brown sugar sweet) and the potato salad was pretty run of the mill. Overall a solid BBQ place.

Very, very good BBQ. I like the pork especially, it’s sweet, juicy and very flavorful. My husband loves the brisket too. And if they have it, the cobbler is to die for! Just make sure you call ahead because they sell out quickly.

Since moving here, we had yet to have barbecue. After consulting Unilocal,we made the drive over to Piggin’ Out. We found the place, and saw that people weren’t kidding about it being small. Only a few tables outside and pretty much ordering room only inside. We had been planning on this, so no big deal. We ordered the Piggin’ Out Sampler. We tried to order banana pudding(out) and sweet tea(not made after Labor Day). The owner was kind enough to give us some extra chicken, since they didn’t have 2 things that we wanted. The food was really good. I tried the pork, brisket, chicken, baked beans, corn bread, and cole slaw. I’m kind of a mac and cheese addict, so I was sad to read that it isn’t very good here, but I was happy with the sides that I got instead. The meat was all very good; the chicken was pink, though I’m sure it was the smoke ring. I used the mild sauce, and my boyfriend said that it was a lot like the spicy, which I appreciate! I don’t like feeling like I’m missing out on flavor because I can’t handle the spice. The cole slaw was tangy and creamy. The baked beans were perfectly seasoned. The corn bread was just okay, but with butter and honey, it was good. We will definitely be back!

I totally support the 4 – 5 stars review here. Pretty famous I guess since they ran out of ribs the day we dropped in at a round 4. Since our choice was limited to what they have left we decided on two Low Carb Platter. Pulled pork, Sausage and Brisket with a side of a(very small) potato salad for me. $ 15.15. The pulled pork was my favorite. It was moist and tastier than the brisket. The sausage was huge and the pop on the casing when you bite is there. We initially ordered them to dine in and realized that there is only three or four tables outside to eat and only one had an umbrella. It was a scorcher yesterday. So we took our order to go instead. The Low Carb Platter was loaded with meat. Makes the potato salad side looked even smaller. Not a pro tip: But as someone who learned from the girl at the register that most customers order on the phone and pick up. The phone orders will beat you to the ribs. Just like what happened to us. We were standing there while someone was ordering the last ribs in the house! :( Will be back for the ribs since I heard that they don’t drench them with sauce. My favorite!

We recently had Piggin’ Out cater our wedding of 100 people. They were on time for delivery, and their food was some of the best BBQ I’ve had in the Denver Metro area. The owner is down-to-earth. He is honest with his capabilities and how much food we should order for the guests. He helped us find the least expensive route to feeding that many people. He can be brutally honest, and some people may find that difficult to deal with, but I appreciate his overt honesty.

Here is the quick«gist» for this place… — Probably the best BBQ in Denver, but it’s not better than Texas or the South. — Any of the meat here is ONPOINT — they got the meat part right. — The sides are«meh» — pretty much what you can buy at King Soopers. — Cost is a tad high, but reasonable for this kind of operation. — Seating is limited. It’s definitely worth checking out and if I did it again, I would just order«meat».

Pulled pork sandwich was very good but it could have been a little warmer. Corn bread was just average and didn’t taste very fresh.

I am struggling a bit. I have had Piggin Out a few times now. I really like that they don’t drench their meat in bbq sauce, but as a previous Unilocaler reviewed, your rub better be the bomb! I ordered the ½ rack of ribs with cole slaw and macaroni and cheese for lunch. Ribs were really tender… BUT, I think they were tenderized by possibly being wrapped in plastic vs. slow smoked tender. As «tender» as my ribs were, the meat came right off the bone leaving the bone clean with almost just one pull! Ribs had a decent smoke ring, but not a strong smoke flavor. Sauces, mild and spicy, were decent. Cole slaw was uneventful. Penne pasta in cheese sauce does not equal macaroni and cheese. I am going to have to give it an average 3 star… nothing great but not bad. Oh, but that mac and cheese has gotta go!

The food– great. The customer service– sucks. They have gotten cocky. Such a deterrent. Good thing their food is good… otherwise we would never be back.

While driving from the airport we found this roadside BBQJOINT! It appears to be an old converted house, with only a few outside tables. I was excited to give it a try! The two person staff was friendly and helpful. When ordering, I was disappointed they were out of 2 items I was going to order. We decided to try the beef brisket and hot links. Presentation was not so great, but the much more important flavor was there! I also appreciated the fact that they did not saturate it in sauce so you can actually taste the flavor. Definitely recommend stopping by and checking it out!

Solid. I’m visiting from out of town. Had the half slab of ribs and cornbread. Not the best I’ve had, but the meat was tender and yummy. I had both mild and spicy BBQ sauces. Mild sauce was a bit bland, and the spicy had some kick to it. Not the greatest sauces here either. But you wouldn’t have to twist my arm to go back.

Sometimes I wonder if Colorado knows what great BBQ tastes like. I saw a sign on the place that said«Best BBQ in Denver» and I got excited! Couldn’t wait to try it, and when I did I was rather disappointed. I normally judge a BBQ joint on the beef brisket as it is typically the most difficult meat to smoke right. I ordered the brisket sandwich with 2 sides(mac and cheese and cole slaw) and a sweet tea. I thought the meat was a little dry and pretty bland. I understand not saucing the meat, but that means your rub better be pretty titty. This was not. Call me traditional, but I am not sure if I like getting the choice between 3 different BBQ sauces. The mustard Carolina was ok, the spicy was ok, and the regular sauce was pretty good. I would spend my time on one sauce. The mac and cheese looked funny. It looked like yellow mustard. It wasn’t. But it looked funny, and it was not macaroni, it was penne. And the flavor was not better than Kraft. Again, maybe I’m a traditionalist. The Cole slaw was pretty good. The sweet tea was not sweat tea, it was peach tea. There is a difference. Being raised in Kansas City I do hold places to a very high BBQ standard. But impossible in Colorado? So far yes. The search continues.

Amazing ribs! When I picked up the bone the meat fell off its so tender. The spicy BBQ sauce is really good. The beans are good but not the best I’ve had. I miss the beans from El Paso BBQ in AZ. Still have yet to find a place that compares. The potato salad was good. Great place to have them cater an event. The brisket was not good in my opinion. Major Disappointment. It’s the ribs I recommend! This is a no frills place to pick up to go or to eat outside. They are just set up for serious BBQ not dining.

Easily the best BBQ in Colorado, and aside from the South, this is the best BBQ I’ve ever had. It sits just along the side of the road in Lakewood, there is no seating inside, as the entire building is dedicated to its kitchen — a true«hole in the wall» shop. While there are tons of options, including ribs, and sides like coleslaw, BBQ beans, and banana cream pie, the real treat here is the pulled pork and the brisket. In my opinion, the best way to enjoy this juicy BBQ is with the simple pulled pork sandwich or beef brisket sandwich. Unlike most other BBQ joints, these guys truly put the meat first, meaning your order will not come with BBQ sauce(thank you)! Yes, they have very tasty sauce, which comes as a simple mild or hot(I recommend mixing), but it’s just nice to see a place that doesn’t serve the meat slathered in sauce, which usually means they’re trying to hide something. Be warned though, it’s a little like ordering from the soup Nazi, if you know what I mean.

What we ordered: Pulled Pork Sandwich Beef Brisket Sandwich Coleslaw Baked Beans w/Brisket Mac and Cheese Potato Salad Review: Pulled Pork Sandwich The pulled pork is a definite MUSTTRY. This pulled pork sandwich had the best flavor of any pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever had. It was smokey but not overpowering. Adding barbeque sauce to it actually took flavor away from the sandwich. The bread was thick and soft, what you typically would expect with a bbq sandwich. I can’t get over how delicious the meat was. My only complaint is that the meat was a little dry and I didn’t want to add bbq sauce to make it juicier because I was so in love with the flavor. I settled for adding coleslaw to the sandwich and that definitely helped. Beef Brisket Sandwich Again, the flavor was good but not as good as the pulled pork. The flavor of the beef masked some of the smoky flavor and didn’t jive as well. The meat was also a bit dry, but I didn’t mind adding bbq sauce to this sandwich. Their bbq sauce is good so I was happy to use it. Sides from favorite to least favorite Coleslaw OK… this was the best coleslaw I’ve had. It was crunchy, a little sweet, a little tangy and just DELICIOUS. To my despair, my boyfriend who usually hates coleslaw, loved it too… so I had to share. I may have grown up with 3 siblings so I’ve been taught to share from a young age. but when it comes to food, I HATE sharing, especially really good food(I know. that sounds terrible but if I’m serious about one thing… it’s food). Baked Beans w/Brisket The baked beans were also delicious. They were a little on the sweet side for me but that was easy to get over, especially with the HUGE chunks of brisket in it. I was not expecting them to give us that much brisket in a side dish. Mac and Cheese Good make a cheese with cheddar sauce. The sauce wasn’t as thick as most mac and cheeses but that didn’t take away from the flavor at all. They use penne pasta instead of macaroni, which was nice because it was able to hold more of the sauce. Potato Salad This is the only item I was not impressed with. It could have used some relish or something else in it. It was a pretty plain potato salad, red potatoes, mayo, pepper, and a little bit of relish. Service The girl that took our order was really friendly and helpful. In addition, the food came out quickly so we didn’t have to wait long. I am more than willing to drive out of my way to come here again.
