Its pretty sad that Max & Erma’s changed their menu once again and it seems as though they are now in competition with Burger King and McDonald’s because they specialize in burgers. Max & Erma’s used to have a wonderful menu that included Singapore Salmon, bbq ribs, etc. Now your choices are very limited unless you want a burger prepared 100 ways. Save your money and go to one of the fast food chains for your burger. The food I ended up ordering was not very flavorful and ended up taking it home so that I could spice it up a bit. The wait staff was not very attentive. It seems as though the wait staff is pretty new because they did not know the menu very well. As for a manger in the house… maybe he was next door at Mitchell’s having a great dinner. Last year, I purchased gift certificates for future use. However, I would no longer recommend this establishment because of the menu choices. I will have to return to the restaurant but only because I have to get rid of the gift cards.

My first impression of Max and Erma’s(inside) reminded me of T.G.I.Fridays, décor wise… and when Applebee’s was still good. This was a lunch outing/experience. The staff was friendly. Upon entry, the door was held open, and we were offered bar seating or dining. Having no preference, we were sat in the bar. The floor is open and accessible easily if you had a wheelchair, or walker. The booths are a little higher up than normal, but it shouldn’t deter you. There are also tables to seat yourself at; the ones on the bar side are a traditional high top bar table. There are several beers on tap, around eight, and several others in can/bottle. Our server was great, friendly, and spot on for service. We ordered the brat burger, and the garbage burger. We were recommended the tortilla soup, but refused it as we wanted to try the caramel apple pie. The garbage burger was… different. I had personal debate on building my own burger, but I figured on trying a signature recipe. It’s not like something I’ve ever had around here before, that’s for sure. It was a hot mess of different tastes, something unique that brought it all together. The brat burger was a tasty innovation of a brat patty, onion rings and sauerkraut, with a nice house made beer mustard. Both dishes come with endless seasoned fries, and are tasty. The caramel apple pie was up next. Two scoops of vanilla ice cream, caramel, and apple pie with a crispy top layer. It’s light, crispy, warm apple slices, and a nice mix of ice cream with caramel… delicious. Overall, it was a nice experience, and a change from the norm. I’d definitely come back, but probably go with my gut on building a burger.

Not the Max and Ermas that I remember. Like seversl others it’s now just another hamburger grille. Burgers were large with a hefty number of choices. They also had several sandwich and salad choices. All ok but nothing to set them apart. Service was good.

Garbage burger was very good. Service was friendly and prompt. Cheesesteak was also good. Good location if you are visiting MSU. Wide variety on menu. Although it’s a chain quality is high.

Have always enjoyed Max and Erma’s in Pittsburgh but this was the first time at a Michigan location. It is still 5 stars to me… how can you go wrong with a cup of tortilla soup and a third street salad? By the way, Texans have it all wrong when it comes to tortilla soup! They should follow the Max and Erma’s recipe.

Location of this restaurant is awesome. Only a short drive from where we are staying. We were able to be seated right away. The atmosphere is pretty cool there are Chandlers and skis in the same area. We were extremely happy with the the friendly service and fast food delivery. During our experience a friend decided to show up and the staff was very helpful. Her food arrived when ours did. Great food and great fun!

I love Max and Erma’s. We usually sit at the bar and have had Chyna Blue(I may have mis-spelled her name) as a bartender and she is great! The $ 5 happy hour appetizers are a great deal. They also have great drink prices and drink specials. They could use a few more craft beers, but that’s my only complaint. They have lot of different food options. I’m a vegetarian and meal choices are often hard to find. Here, I can get a veggie burger if I’m in the mood for one. They also have great salads, black bean roll-ups, and bean nachos. The cookies are also great! Go on a Wednesday and get 2 free cookies!

I love Max and Ermas. Their food portions are large and everything tastes great. I love their cookies! I normally get the Cajun shrimp pasta(or something along those lines) and it tastes great. They have a great kids menu too.

This place just flat out sucks! The waitress was unpleasant, the table and menu were both gross and sticky, the restaurant was so hot and muggy I was literally sweating, the cup of Ranch dipping sauce was tipped over so the potato skins were just soaking in it, and the menu mentions several time of local handcrafted beers on tap even though there was zero on tap today. I came here for a quick lunch and a good beer instead of going to Applebee’s, thinking I would get a better meal since Applebee’s is nothing special. I will not be returning to this or any Max & Erma’s ever again. What a waste!

I love Max & Ermas! When I moved here I was very excited that this is right down the street from me! This location is the best out of all the ones I have been to. The staff is wonderful, its clean, and my food has always been great! I honestly can’t complain about anything. Their prices are good, and you get the awesome service!

Our server was a dud, though the folks behind us seemed to have an attentive server who appeared to have an actual personality. My server wasn’t able to tell me whether the kitchen would be able to customize any of the dishes to make them vegetarian. Really, how hard is it to make vegetarian fajitas? Just leave out the meat, add some portobello mushrooms and you’re there. She didn’t know how many pieces came with the appetizers, etc. Not knowing is forgivable, but the fact that she wasn’t willing to go check(or even offer to) is not. My big complaint is the menu. They used to have a variety of options for vegetarians. Now, not so much. Near as I can tell, there are two items: one appetizer(black bean roll ups) and one entrée(black bean burger). Every salad on the menu has meat on it. When I asked whether it was the same price if the meat was left off, I was told that is was. When will restaurants learn that sometimes carnivores dine with vegetarians, and having flexibility in the menu is easy and cost effective?

Not impressed at all. Food could have been much better. My son was trying to order a salad and the waiter cut him off mid sentence three times. He may be eleven but he knows what he wants on his salad, just let him finish a sentence dude. Try somewhere else is my opinion.

OK… now that I’ve filtered the fat and grease out of my system, I might get these thoughts out properly. One Word: «Burger Challenge!» — FAIL… still some cholesterol clogging up my brain. Two Words: «Burger Challenge!» I’m not the hard core food challenge type… not at all but, I was hungry and my cousin Chris talked me into it. The Landfill Burger — $ 19.99, free if you finish it AND you get a T-shirt Five 10 oz Patties, TEN slices of cheese, THREE buns, EVERY topping they offer: — bacon — lettuce — tomato — fresh onion — chili — jalapenos — marinara sauce — black forest ham(about ¼ inch worth of it) — guacamole — pulled pork — grilled onions — sauteed mushrooms — sweet peppers This is just naming a few toppings, I’m sure I’m missing some. It weighed 4POUNDS and that’s NOT including an OCEAN of Chili Cheese Fries surrounding it. I’ll make this short: Picture this in the begining: Picture this in the end: As for the staff and overall feel of the place — We had a party of 20 people and the only major issue was getting tabs split. Everyone got the right food, cooked the right way and at *roughly the same time(no more than 5 mins apart MAX). As far as décor and cleanliness goes, it was your typical Americana place. Suff on the walls, old sepia toned pictures and the obligatory«Ye Olde Kitchen Gadgets» propped up on shelves. I even think everyone was wearing their mandatory 15 pieces of flair, some were actually wearing Thirty-Seven pieces of flair! Since I did the burger challenge I can pretty much say that the burger toppings are pretty good. Favorite one — Pulled Pork Easy to eat because there was no chewing involved. Plus it tasted really good too! Saucy deliciousness — kind of a mild spicy sweet tang — Nom Nom! Least Favorite — Bacon I know, I know… who doesn’t like bacon?!? I wasn’t a fan this time because: ITWASUNDERCOOKED. Chewy… Fatty… not crispy at all. Minor gag reflex was a happenin’. Hurray for the following: Pulled Pork Sauteed Mushrooms Grilled onions ans sweet peppers Black forest ham Boo-sauce for: Under-cooked Bacon Guacamole Limp Jalapenos I’m a fan and Hell Yess I’d come back!

The servers and manager Adam were great. They made the difference. The soups were hot and delicious. The tortilla soup might have edged the French onion. The salads were great and so was the Club sandwich. Great food, great price, great atmosphere, and phenomenal service. I’ll be back like Arnold the governator. Lol The food was solid but the service at this location was the catapult over the top. The cookies are the best I ever had. I love when the entire team is friendly at a restaurant. They made me want to return and I certainly will. I give the food a 4 and it was standard family restaurant fair. The service was the best I have ever had at a family friendly restaurant chain. I will definitely go back to this Max and Erma’s. Adam and the servers were absolutely outstanding!

Everyone in my party of three ordered a burger. When our food arrived, everything looked good on the outside… but once we bit into our burgers, we realized each one was still RAW in the middle! Disgusted, we sent back our food right away. When the next burgers arrived, 2 of the 3 were acceptable, but my mother’s was still very pink in the middle(she had asked for it to be well done). She sent hers back and they just cooked it for a little longer. Though this was gross and inconvenient, our server remained very sweet and professional throughout the visit. She even notified the manager on duty about what had happened and the manager comped one meal and gave us a 25% discount on the rest of the bill.

Five stars just for their just-out-of-the-oven, gooey, chocolate chip cookies. Even better with milk, which is 99 cents more. Perfect spot to get a chocolate fix or for dessert.

We were looking for a quick place to have lunch before we left town and decided since all the Max & Erma’s in our area had closed we’d go here. Its still your typical bar/restaurant menu, something for everybody. Their menu has a wide selection of specialty burgers. I got the Athena burger which was surprisingly good. Now I wish our local one hadn’t closed. Our server was great, one minor mix up with our orders but it was fixed promptly and everyone was pleased.

Good food, rarely ever a line or wait! Salads are great and is the chicken! They tout their tortilla soup as being the best and I’ll concur! Service is always prompt and the restrooms are clean! Get cookies too!
