Price: Inexpensive Food: 9⁄10 Atmosphere: 6⁄10 Service: 10⁄10 For years Ted’s has been my go-to venue for those days I get a hangover after a night of drinking; the burgers have just the right amount of grease while not going overboard, reminiscent of Jack’s Drive-In in Troy(I’ve heard both locations are owned by the same people but I’m not 100% sure on that.) The cheeseburgers are great(9⁄10), only once in the countless times I’ve been there were they unsatisfactory. Try the fish taco’s(8⁄10) if you’re looking for something different, the chipotle sauce is a surprisingly good inclusion. The steak sandwich is also a good choice(8⁄10). The mini-hotdogs are decent(7⁄10) but if you’re looking for the best head over to Gus’ in Watervliet. The atmosphere/tables are unremarkable but always clean — I generally get take out because I don’t enjoy eating alone like the dude who played Yu-Gi-Oh and never brushed his teeth in 7th grade. The guy who runs the show(I don’t remember his name) and the cooks are fast, I’ve never waited more than 10 minutes from the time I ordered the food to when it was ready. Overall, great food at a good price. Tip: If you’re in a rush, try calling in the order ahead of time, especially on Fridays during Lent since fishfry venues are popular during that time of the year.

Love the fish fries here, the best fish fry anywhere. The chili sauce here is amazingly good, so delicious. Prices are reasonable and they have indoor seating and outdoor picnic tables. I’ve tried some other things on the menu and they are good as well. If you like chili on your Fish fry ask for extra because the chili is so good.

Had fried clams, fries and cole slaw. Not really impressed with anything As other reviewers have noted, the batter is thin but it doesn’t help the clams. The clams and fries we generally under seasoned although I did like the crunch of the coleslaw. Customer service was good though and price was about average.

This was one of the few remaining places near the office that I hadn’t been for lunch. Being one of the better-known names in local fish fry and needing to cross it off my list, it was time to give Ted’s a try. The fish fry here falls somewhere between good and just okay. It’s fried in a thin batter that doesn’t take away from the flavor of the fish, which itself is light and super flaky, but was way too bland for my liking. I should have asked for a lemon wedge, as a squirt of lemon would have given it a little zing and a nice pop of freshness. One thing to keep in mind is that unless you like your seafood drenched in tartar/cocktail sauce, ask for it on the side. I got sauce directly on my fish and ended up spooning off more than half of it. Both the fries and coleslaw, which come with the fish as part of the lunch special, were just kind of «meh». The fries were bland as can be; I’m not sure they were seasoned at all and I found myself dipping them into cocktail sauce to give them some flavor. The coleslaw didn’t deliver much in the taste department either; it too lacked seasoning, was chopped very thin, and was a tad liquidy for me. A future visit isn’t out of the question, but I’ll skip the fish fry if I come back. Whatever I get next time, hopefully it packs a bigger punch than this meal did.

I’ve been looking for a nearby fish fry place for a while now and Ted’s has been expanding with its multiple locations in the past few years it seems. I’ve had the fish fry itself, the fish fry dinner, coleslaw, french fries, and buffalo wings. The fish fry served atop a hot dog bun was the winner in my book. I didn’t really care for the fish fry dinner as it was shorter pieces of fish fry, a hot dog bun, cole slaw and some fries. The cole slaw wasn’t something spectacular. It was quite watery and loosely held together. I prefer a creamier version. The fries were just fillers for me, also nothing special. Buffalo wings will give you some heat alongside celery and carrots with bleu cheese dip, but not the burst of flavor I was expecting and was more on the dry side. I’d get the fish fry again as it seemed to be nicely battered and seasoned. The tartar sauce is my go-to and I like it on the side. If that’s not your thing the chili sauce or cocktail sauce is also an option. They even gave me a few packets of lemon juice too.

The fish was excellent, just like the other Ted’s I’ve been to, so I can recommend this location if that’s all you’re looking for. Unfortunately, the milk shake I got was terrible. Even calling it a «milk shake» is generous since it tasted like one of those generic ice-milk blends that you get out of a machine. The fries were slightly undercooked as well. Will not be going back any time soon.

Ted’s is a fine fish fry joint. You don’t come here in your Sunday best for filet mignon. Mostly because they don’t serve filet mignon. It’s a fish fry restaurant. But if you’re in the mood for some classic fried fish on a roll with French fries, then you’ve come to the right place.

I was brought up in a fish fry loving family and have been eating at Ted’s in their various locations all my life. Their fish fries have gotten better & better over the years, and they are now the best by far of all other fish fry purveyors in the area(sorry, Bob & Ron’s, but it’s true). And now they also serve mini hot dogs with meat sauce that are far better than Hot Dog Charlie’s and on a par with Gus’s(in Watervliet). The only item I would advise against ordering at Ted’s is the fried clams —– they are strip clams and really nothing more than battered small pieces of clams.

Visiting Albany and back at Teds after 15 years. The best fish fry in the capital district!

These fish fries are so good that you’ll judge every one after on whether it tasted like a Ted’s fish fry! I moved away from this area and I make it a point to stop here every time I come back to visit. Their homemade clam chowders are also great!

Came here for 4 years until I moved out of town and still come back when I visit. An establishment that has been around 50+ years has to be doing something right. Oh, and the cheese burgers are to die for!

Some old lady took my order and so they thought it would be cool to give me hers although we ordered different sauces and I paid for two orders of fries. Otherwise the food tasted good.

ok, ted’s fish fry is the real deal. i’m very happy about the meals i’ve had here. most people wouldn’t guess that fried fish sarnies go well with chocolate milk-shakes, but it is an impressively fantastic pairing. some thing about the base in the milk cutting the fry. personally — since i mix mustard for a living– i am a huge snob about sauces that are hot, so asking me to judge the chili just isn’t fair. most people, and probably what ever you think is great chili is just mediocre to me. anyway, yay! i’m a fan. ted’s fish fry is tres delish.

Have been going to Nantucket every summer wishing I could get seafood close by that would live up. While Ted’s still has a ways to go compared to New England seafood, their fish fry’s and tartar sauce are delicious. Actually needed 2, they were so good. Would have preferred the clam chowder to be a little thicker but was still tasty. Next time, I’ll try the clam rolls and report back. Would be great if they could extend their menu and incorporate things like steamers and clams but glad that this place is in the area!

Bad. Not good. Underwhelming. We stopped for a quick bite on Wednesday. I can understand waiting in line as they do cook the food to order, but the staff was surly and not at all welcoming. The food was hot, but that is about the only compliment we could give. The fish fry had no taste. The chili sauce had no taste. The onion rings had no taste. I don’t get it. Maybe this location is just different. We will not be spending money here again.

Great place to go for some fast food that actually tastes good. The burgers with fried onions are one of the better things here even though they are known for their fish frys. The Hot Dogs with meat sauce are also surprisingly good. I wish the fish frys were a little smaller because I like to get a variety of things when I go, but that alone could fill me up. Cheese fries and onion rings are also good. I don’t think you would be disappointed with anything on the menu actually.

The hidden gem here is the cheeseburgers. Seriously; they are good and all of the food is priced right. The mini crab cakes are also a compliment to any meal you order. The interior is small, but aside from college students and potheads no one eats there. It has a big take out following.

I’m starting to understand fish fry. And I am starting to develop a set of criteria. It’s was pretty simple, after my visit to Ted’s I have added a third criterion. #1 The fish fry sandwich itself #2 The clams and the new #3 The chili sauce Ted’s has a dynamite fish fry sandwich. I thought I didn’t like chili sauce on fish fry, but really I don’t like Bob & Ron’s chili sauce on fish fry. I do like Ted’s. It changed my mind. That’s big. Sadly, the clams at Ted’s are sorely deficient. They were thin, and pretty tough with a very light breading. Also, Ted’s fries were weak. Under-salted and boring. But fries don’t count. Probably they should. Slaw should figure in big as well, but I figure I’ll get to that in time. One time I tried drinking a chocolate shake with fish fry. It just wasn’t happening for me. Maybe it’s one of those things you have to grow up with. Fish and chocolate? I’ll take a nice grease-cutting iced tea if you please.
