I decided to write an updated review as my old review really didn’t highlight the strengths and weaknesses of this place. Let’s start off this by talking about the owner himself. The owner Shaun I refer to as the sushi wizard. This guy has such an art(craft) for making sushi. There are days that i’ve went in and he literally made a random creation out of my favorite ingredients. Shaun has always mentioned that each sushi creation has to have its own unique flavor and taste. Everything I get here has just that. The only part that I have to knock it on is the price. I honestly can’t afford to come here that often but when I do it is fantastic. Let’s start off with a few of my favorites. I used to get the Julie roll after the image that I included with my previous review. Now, I get the Stephen roll on a regular basis. This off of the menu item is named after the Lathrop City Manager. I must say this is by far one of the most unique rolls that i’ve ever had. This roll is requested by every family member and friend that I frequent this place with. The flavors blend so well together that it really is a party for your salivary glands. The searing taste simply is indescribable. I can go on and on about rolls I recommend but a few of my favorites are: The delicious, Shaun Roll, Julie Roll, Amici Roll, and Crunch munch. If sashimi is your thing, I can’t recommend the sashimi tapas or even regular nigiri. The fish here is always so fresh. This place is equivalent to any higher end establishment found in bigger cities. Honestly you can’t go wrong with this place no matter what you order. Just remember that the Sushi Wizard has got you covered. If you are unsure, share what you like with Shaun and he will recommend what ever is on the menu to suit your taste buds.

We heard about this place from friends and folks on facebook. Yup, it’s as good as they all say! Started with a green salad(homemade dressing a little oniony but very fresh); wife had seaweed salad which was excellent– and fish pops — great flavor«interesting» texture. From there we split a little bit of heaven in a «Red Ocean» roll. A delightfully spicy roll with a fresh lemon finish — perfect! A 6-pack of oysters in a brilliant presentation that ate like dreamy oyster shooters rounded out the meal. An excellent meal deserves an excellent desert. Mine was a salmon skin hand roll that was undoubtedly the best I ever had(and embarrassingly that’s a lot). Seriously can’t wait to go back. Seriously.

I really had high expectations for this place, especially since my friends were always raving about it ever since it opened, but after my disappointing experience here I can definitely say that I’d rather much prefer Mikasa’s any day. My friends and I arrived here on a Saturday(Memorial day weekend) around 8:45pm and the owner said that they were going to close at 9pm. Well thanks for advertising that on Unilocal and on the front doors!(They didn’t) Luckily, they let us dine in, but the groups arriving after us weren’t so fortunate. We ordered: — Baguette sashimi(3 for $ 9) — Spicy chicken udon noodle($ 10) — Oysters(6 for $ 14) — the Delicious roll(6 rolls for $ 15) — the Mango paradise roll(6 for $ 16) — 2 Asahi beers(Small $ 4 each) The baguette sashimi, udon noodles, and oysters were delicious, but the Delicious and Mango paradise roll were such a HUGE disappointment. Not only that, we NEVER received our Asahi drinks! Luckily, though, the waiter didn’t charge us for our-never-received beers. I admit that the presentation for the food were amazing, but the rolls were overly covered with mayonnaise and the Mango paradise roll wasn’t even served with mango’s! I’d prefer eating Mikasa’s Maui Maki because it’s actually served with mango’s, tobiko, spicy and mango sauce, cucumbers, eel, and cut into at least 12 pieces! Although Amici’s sushi roll proportions are large and decorated with a «expensive» presentation, they lack the culinary taste compared to Mikasa’s. Overall, I doubt I’ll be dining at Amici’s again, especially since I like my food to be served EXACTLY how it’s described and I’d actually like to be served with a beer when I order one.

Amici is awesome!!! Very yummy, great service and clean! Shawn the owner is super friendly! My boyfriend and I went for dinner probably around 4 months ago and really enjoyed our food! Everything was fresh and flavorful. The restaurant was busy but Shawn took the time to introduce himself and talk to us before we left. Most people don’t put in the effort to talk to us because we look younger than we are(sigh) but it’s expected so I definitely appreciated it We came back for my boyfriends graduation dinner with his family, and Shawn recognized us and he remembered exactly where we sat too which was crazy to us! He was friendly as usual and had lots of suggestions. All the rolls(Harlan, Amici, Shawn, Lathrop, Red Ocean, Crunch and Munch) were amazing and the fish pops and sashimi were really good and fresh too! Thanks Shawn for great food, service and really caring for all the people who walk in!

The 3 stars is for the food. Everything I’ve ordered I’ve liked! Service isn’t the best. They still need a lot of work on customer service. The lady always seems irritated all the time and is very rude to her workers. Maybe that’s why they always have different waiters/servers. Prices are extremely expensive NOW. So I will definitely find a different sushi spot to dine at.

THEBEST Sushi restaurant in the area! Great service, owner is a very nice gentleman named Shaun. Highly recommend trying the Lodi Roll. Fish is FRESH! Sashimi is served on a bed of ice to keep it fresh. Can’t go wrong at this place! Daughter took me there for a belated Mother’s Day lunch. Was the best Mother’s Day Sushi lunch I’ve ever had. Will definitely be coming back! Thank you Shaun for the awesome service!

Excellent place! Fresh ingredients imported from all over the world, the menu really sets this place apart from any other sushi restaurant. I took my mother out for lunch for the first time today and we got to meet the owner Shawn, very sweet and personable guy with a lot of knowledge about cuisine. We ordered the Julie roll and the Lathrop roll as well as two lunch meals — the sashimi & tempura for me, the sushi & tempura for mom. The Lathrop roll was a very nice surprise, not at all what I was expecting in a roll. HIGHLY recommend trying this one, you seriously won’t find it anywhere else. I will say that Amici has some of the highest prices, but it’s for the fresh, delicious ingredients, it’s definitely worth a visit, just make sure to save up for your visit, it’s easy to drop $ 25 for one person. The atmosphere is very modern, black and white color scheme with beautiful silver lamps above the tables, it’s tied together very nicely. I will absolutely be coming here again!

We came here on the first day we bought our home to celebrate. The whole staff was very friendly and made us feel welcomed. yes I agree it might be a bit pricey, but the many times we have been here, we are always greeted right away, never have to wait, always greeted by other staff to make sure we are good and have what we need and never have to wait long for our food(a big plus) Food is always fresh and tasty. Julie is amazing. we ordered hot tea on a cold day. She brought me loose green tea leaves with roasted rice. Imported from Japan that smell so good, it made my day. I have been to other places here that gave me Lipton!!!(the horror). My favorite is the Crazy Buster and also the chicken katsu. I’d pay the price for clean, nice atmosphere, fresh sushi and great friendly customer service. My only wish is they served Boba in the future! Then I will feel completely at home.

First time coming here with my girlfriend, and let me first say right away the customer service was bad. When we first entered the door we were never greeted. Eventually a lady came over to us and sat a couple who came 10 minutes after us before us. Besides the poor/rude customer support the food was just okay. I will not be returning here. Given their price, the food and service quality is not good. It seems to be relatively expensive compared with others. I would not recommend it.

I have been here many times and food has always been excellent. I like their sashimi and small plates. The food wait can be long sometime but I don’t mind as long as the food is great. Their Ika Robata is delicious. Their food presentation is comparable to higher end restaurants. Keep a note that they give you real wasabi when you order Moriawase, which is awesome.

Shawn is great, and the food is even better! We enjoyed another AWESOME meal here We ordered a whole fried fish for the first time and were not disappointed. The Red Snapper was fresh and we added it to our«favorites» list.

Thanks Unilocal friends! I think about 5 of y’all referred me to this place, and darn, are we glad we checked it out today! It is located in a newer strip mall, and lunchtime parking was a bit difficult. Once we walked in, the décor was a breath of fresh air! I’ve never been anywhere with so much white and natural sunlight making the kitschy and tasteful decorations radiate! I got SO excited see the ice bucket of fresh fish at the bar, so naturally we needed to try the chef selections of the day! Our waters came, and once I took a sip, I was impressed with their attention to detail with the cucumbers! Then our soups came, it could quite possibly be the best miso soup we’ve ever had! Then the house salads came, and they were also impressive! I actually snapped a pic of the salad, because they were NOT your typical hospital food cafeteria salad with a little miso dressing slopped on top. The dressing had more garlic than I’m used to(yay!) and all the different ingredients carried their own tastes(not the dump in the bin and store everything together type of a salad.) Mmmm! Even the sides of rice were far superior to other sushi places. Then I realized how on point our waiter was, when he brought the food out with perfect timing and we never needed to ask for so much as a refill, or obviously self-buss our own table. Then our main courses came out, and I’ve got to say we were speechless! He described everything so well… May I say the best and most memorable sushi experience that we’ve ever had?! Honestly, it’s intoxicating to order the chef special tapas, and the CS sashimi was off the hook! We got to pick out a freshly imported fish from Japan, and they fried it up all crispy for us to dip in house special fish sauce and eat whole, like a soft shell crab.(Pics attached.) That was a first for me! Oh, and so was the amazing fresh, real wasabi! That was a first for me, also! Mmm. Then while my husband was paying out, I passed the amazing refrigerator of cold sake varieties, and there were a TON that I wanted to try(next time?) Shawn, our waiter, and apparently also the owner, ran up to me to introduce me to his collection! He opened up a can of their top selling cold sake, and gave it to my husband and I, on the house!(Good thing my husband already tipped exceptionally well.) then he walked us around to the bar, and told us about his selection of Japanese whisky is supposed to be addicting! Oh, we’ll be back for sure! Did I mention what an aphrodisiac the oyster shots and sashimi are?! Yeah, we’ll be back really soon! Thanks Shawn, and wise Unilocal friends! I can’t imagine a better day date!

I’ve been here a few times and the food is very good for outside of the bay. Although the negatives here is about the service, which can be hit or miss. more miss than hit if you know what I mean. If you don’t mind waiting a bit the food is good and better than most in this area. Sadly it can take a while if you come here during a busy period and want something like an extra utensil or water. Tough to rate any place higher than this when the service is so slow

Coming from the bay, I have very low expectations for restaurants in the valley. I never thought I could find a restaurant who paid this much attention to presentation in the lathrop area. Then I came to this sushi restaurant… Presentation was amazing! And the fish was sooo tender and fresh. Most raw fish are a bit chewy but every bite of the sushi rolls just melted in your mouth. Great experience. Great ambiance. And delicious food. Wonderful!

Absolutely delicious!!! The rolls are beautiful AND have amazing flavor! The fish is fresh, the crab is so good… teriyaki chicken was so tender and good! Tempura shrimp was cooked perfectly… I HIGHLY recommend this place! The décor is gorgeous… the plating of the food is absolutely beautiful… can’t believe this place is in Lathrop :-) I gave 4⁄5 starts only because it is pricey!

Ahi poke is extremely spicy, is basically cucumber salad with 6 bits of tuna in it for $ 13. My mouth is still on fire and am on my second glass of ice water :(a little disappointing considering that I haven’t had my main meal, rolls… Butterfly roll was spicy, flaming Koi was nice. Overall it’s a nice place, but the extra spice is not typical of sushi, a surprise that I didn’t plan on, I didn’t go for the Mexican food next door for that reason… Chef, Take it few notches down.
