My take in this location has changed drastically. When it first opened, service and food was wonderful. We don’t like excessive use of msg and in beginning they used a little amount of it. But now it about the same as any other Vietnamese restaurant. This tells me that they don’t rely on the full flavor and quality of their food anymore. The broths should rely on the ingredients to create flavorful taste instead of the msg. Even the fish sauce dipping sauce, nuoc mam, has msg. The service on a busy Sunday is horrible. We waited awhile to sit while they cleared the tables and then was placed in the corner where the other 4 tables seated after us got their water and order taken. Tried to wave down the waiters with no avail, so had to walk out. I still recommend this place for its decent Vietnamese food selection but quality had gone down in my book. If you can stand msg, this is still a decent Vietnamese choice. But I hate bad service. This was our last visit there.

Food was okay. If you don’t like sugar and msg don’t come here because they put a ton of it in their food. Their decorations can get hurt your eyes. They are better restaurant in town. The servers are very moody.

I had a dinner at this restaurant the other day. Food wasn’t bad at all. I ordered: –Mango Salad $ 6.95: green mango wasn’t too sour and the dried shrimp add more flavor to it. –Vermicelli dish w/pork Sausage $ 8.85: huge portion of noodle n veggies but not so much on the sausage, i wish they put more sausage in it. –Asian mix fruit cocktail: Sweet dessert drink. I like the combination of the jackfruits, longan, nata de coco and jellies with crushed ice. for $ 3.95, I think they need to put more toppings. I think they need more server, because food came a bit slow and I feel sorry for this one lady(our server) run around by herself. Service was ok since it’s asian restaurant, I don’t expect much. Definitely will come back some other time in the future.

I’m not really impressed with this vietnamese joint. The décor was a typical of a gaudy vietnamese restaurant. The waitress was nice, we chatted briefly before I placed my order. I ordered the banh cuon dat biet which consisted of rice rolls(filled with minced beef), fried shrimp cake, pickled pork sausage. This dish was okay, I have had better. I didn’t particularly like the filling in the rice rolls. I also ordered the wonton soup. This was also subpar. The broth was a bit too sweet and the filling in the wonton a bit sweet as well. I’m not sure if I would come back, but if I do I’ll have to try the bun mang vit that everyone is raving about.

Found this place out of Atlanta 50 best restaurants and it’s well worth the reputation. The food is authentic Vietnamese and as good as it gets. We chose quite safe and common choices to compare with other Vietnamese restaurants such as banh my, sizzling beef, fried chicken fried rice, fresh spring rolls n egg rolls. They are all perfect. We ate everything, nothing left on the plates that were that tasty. Deco not much to rave about, very Vietnamese: simple café style. Service was on, takes a bit long to clear the empty plates but nothing to complain about. People were friendly and helpful. But you will come here for just the food, chargrilled bbq taste and exact balance of favours. Meals are very reasonably priced for the quality and excellent taste. I will give 4 and a half stars if I could. Dont try the dessert che Thai though, it was not a good ending for the meal, very false taste. For that, I knocked half a star off. Still, you don’t go to a Vietnamese restaurant for dessert. It is THE place to go to for Vietnamese food.

I like coming to this place when I’m on Pleasenthill rd. It’s never to crowded when I come in. The service has always been good for me. For lunch, I pigged out on banh mi thit nuong, papaya salad, com dac biet, and bun bo hue. The papaya salad was not in season so the texture was off, but the flavor was still there. Banh mi and com dac biet was still great. The bun bo hue was off today, the flavor wasn’t all there. Tasted a little water down even after I put the shrimp paste in. I will be back in a couple days.

Delicious, authentic, and affordable Vietnamese food describes Com Mai in a nutshell. This is a casual no-frills Vietnamese restaurant where you can find some great hard-to-find dishes. The restaurant opened November 2014 in a sprawling shopping center on Pleasant Hill Road in a strip between Guitar Center and Planet Fitness. There’s not much to the place and virtually no ambiance to speak of. This humble«mom and pop» shop is all about the food. There are about a dozen booths and, for larger parties, a smattering of tables thrown together in the back. At first glance, Com Mai most reminded me of the now-defunct Buford Highway Vietnamese restaurant Quan Ba 9 because of its many unique noodle dishes. Funny enough, I found out later Com Mai’s owner and cook came from there, so it makes sense! Note this is not a phở restaurant and in fact, phở is nowhere to be found on the menu. The restaurant serves a little bit of everything else similar to other metro Atlanta Vietnamese restaurants like Nam Phuong, Château Saigon, New Saigon, and Lotus. Com Mai offers several different types of spring rolls and egg rolls, a variety of salads including Goi Xoai(mango salad with dried shrimp) and Goi Muc Kieu Thai Lan(spicy Thai squid salad), a limited selection of Bahn Mi sandwiches, and a wide assortment of Com Dia(rice plates), Bun(rice vermicelli noodles), Bun Nuoc(rice vermicelli noodle soup), Hu Tieu Mi(rice/egg noodle soup), Bo Kho(beef stew), and Banh Cuon(steamed rolled pancakes). In general, everything I’ve tried here has tasted good to great. Excellent presentation and prices are reasonable with most dishes costing about $ 8 – 9 each. One of the restaurant’s most popular and highly recommended dishes isn’t on the menu: Mi Quang. This is a regional Vietnamese noodle dish that is quite strong in flavor. Technically not a noodle soup, though the amount of broth/sauce in the bowl could have you believe so, the noodles are flat wide rice noodles. Ingredients in Com Mai’s version include chopped boneless chicken and pork, hard boiled quail eggs, onion, cilantro, crushed peanuts, and rice sesame crackers. Fresh vegetables served on the side are shredded cabbage(white and red, but mainly white), lettuce, cilantro, lime, and jalapeño. The strong broth makes the Mi Quang an intensely flavorful and delicious dish. The vegetables are fresh, the pieces of chicken and pork savory, the noodles soft, smooth, and scrumptious, and the crackers crisp. Another popular and suggested item is the Bun Mang Vit, duck and bamboo noodle soup. This is one of Com Mai’s specialties and is an excellent light noodle soup. It’s made with soft and slippery rice vermicelli noodles in a clear broth with bamboo shoots, fried shallots, cilantro, scallion, onion, and congealed blood cubes. Served on the side in a separate dish is a small salad with steamed duck(bone-in), pickled carrots and daikon radish, more fried shallots, chopped basil, cilantro, shredded white cabbage, lime, and jalapeño. The quality of the ingredients is good and everything is nicely prepared. The duck is tender and appetizing on its own. If you find the broth to be too bland, Bun Mang Vit also comes with a side of Nuoc Mam Gung, which is Vietnamese fish sauce(nuoc mam) with added chilies, ginger, garlic, sugar, and lime/lemon. It packs a punch. An alternative to the Bun Mang Vit is the Mi Vit Tiem, which is a braised duck noodle soup. This is a richer soup with a dark brown broth and thin egg noodles(as opposed to rice noodles). The bone-in braised duck is served directly in the bowl with leafy green veggies, making it similar to Hong Kong-style roast duck noodle soup. Full of flavor, very good, and comforting. Another entrée worth ordering is the Banh Cuon Dac Biet, Vietnamese steamed rolled pancake combination. The Banh Cuon has a neat«homemade» quality to it. The rolls are similar to Chinese Cantonese dim sum rice noodle rolls(cheong fun) in terms of their smooth, soft, thin, and delicate texture and consistency. Com Mai’s Banh Cuon Dac Biet comes with Vietnamese sausage, Vietnamese ham/pork roll(cha lua), mung bean cake, bean sprouts, basil, and a dipping sauce. It’s delectable. Don’t sleep on Com Mai’s drinks and desserts. Along with Vietnamese coffee, they have authentic Vietnamese beverages such as Chanh Muoi(salted and pickled limeade), Soda Chanh(the soda version), and even Soda Sua Hot Ga. The latter is a sweet drink that tastes better than it sounds, made with egg yolk, sweetened condensed milk, and club soda. Admittedly, the Chanh Muoi and Soda Chanh are more of acquired tastes as they are sharply tart, but mightily refreshing. Com Mai has a small selection of Sinh To(smoothies) and Che(pudding). The Che here is surprisingly good! Try the Che Thai which is an Asian fruit cocktail made with crushed ice, coconut cream, jellies, and fruit such as durian, jackfruit, and lychee. It’s ripe, sweet, and delightful. Service is quick and efficient.

Nice place for a casual date or catch up time with friends. Clean, friendly, ample parking. Friendly service. Affordable prices. And food comes out quick! My favorite server is Lenny, he’s kind and informative. Looks like he’s 15, but he’s a grown man. The dishes I have had thus far my 4 – 5 times here are the Bun Thit Nuong(charbroiled pork vermicelli) which is my favorite because meat is flavorful but overall meal feels light on your stomach. The vegetables add a nice texture change. The vinegar based sauce that comes with it has just enough flavor. Not too salty or sweet. Com Suon Bo Dai Han(Korean style charbroiled beef ribs) this is flavorful as well, the meat is a bit chewy, I like that though. But something to take note of. And the Mi Vit Tiem(braised duck soup). Yes tasty. Broth is so full but not too much. Duck meat is soft. The vinegar papaya they give on the side adds a nice crunch.

Ordered: –Mi quang. The broth has really good flavors. The noodles are well cooked and there was tons of chicken and duck meat. Only complaint is that the rice paper was very hard and stale. Otherwise, very delicious. –Hu tieu do bien(seafood egg noodle). I’ve always enjoyed Hu tieu broth more than phở broth and this really hit the spot. Came with variety of different seafoods. Didn’t care for the imitation crab. –Goi xoai(mango salad). Right amount of sour and sweet. Wish it was more spicy. Their menu is full of authentic specialty Vietnamese dishes. Customer service was on point. I will definitely come back and try more dishes. Also, their veggies are very fresh which is a huge plus!

Com Mai is located in the same plaza as the planet fitness on pleasant hill. It’s located next to the guitar center and the letters on the sign are red so you can’t miss it. The staff is friendly and attentive here! If you’re thirsty, you’re in luck because they refill your water as soon as it hits the half mark. I had the Mi Quang. It comes with the veggie condiments which were very clean and fresh! I give my meal 3.5 stars because I had high expectations and was slightly disappointed. The broth was a bit greasy for me because I felt the need to wipe my mouth after every bite,(and I’m usually a clean eater!) My companion had Com Suon Nuong and seemed to enjoy his order! The meat portion was generous and was marinated perfectly. Our two orders came out to be 17.00. We left full and semi satisfied! Will probably be back to try out all the other delicious looking foods!

So glad to find this place! Finally a Vietnamese noodles place that focus aside than over commercialized Phở packed with msg, just something more authentic I would say. Thanks to other Unilocalers, we went there for lunch and ordered: Mi Quang(not on menu) — Broth was really flavorful. Sesame crackers tasted good along with the meats. However, the flat rice noodle started off being a little undercook but after it submerge in the hot soup, it did soften more. Most of all, it cost only $ 7.95!!! (B9)Bun Tom, Thit Nurong, Cha Gio– A standard noodle dish and overall flavors were pretty good. Nice portion for $ 8.95. Service was quick and nice but it’s obvious majority of their customers are Vietnamese as the servers keep talking to us in Viet. Overall, we’ll be back to try more dishes in future.

Pretty good place. Service is fast and clean. Note* they dont have alot of phở here if thats what you’re looking for. They have other soup dishes though so definitely try this place as they make those dishes their speciality. I ordered Mi Quang, which I couldnt find on the menu. There are pictures on here, definitely worth it. I liked it alot. Very competitively priced. I will go here when I don’t want phở

I’ve been here 4 times and waited to see how consistent they will be through time before Unilocaling. I’ve ordered Bun Thai(Seafood and beef vermicelli noodle Tom Yum style) four times and none has been comparable to the first bowl I’ve had, which started this mad craving. The flavors were similar but lacking in toppings. The topping consist of calamari rings, napa cabbages, watercress, sliced beef, chunks of white fish and shrimp. It sounds like a lot but when I saw my bowl, it looked like somebody ransacked it. :(It made me sad. The Bun Bo Hue was another one that was lacking in flavors and toppings third time around… the first time was very flavorful. Goi Xoai(Green Mango Salad with Dried Shrimps) was pretty good. This is definitely great with a cold beer. Green mango has a crunchy texture combined with the salty dried shrimps and marinated in a spicy sweet chili fish sauce is a match made in heaven. Bun Bo Xao(Vermicelli with Stir Fried Beef) was fairly decent. The beef portions was actually reasonable. It comes with a side of sweet fish sauce, absolutely no chili flakes in it. Offensive for a spicy eater like me but full of rejoice for non spicy eater… I do like their Com Dat Biet and Hoang Thanh Soup(Wonton Soup), those two have been very consistent with flavors. Again, very lacking in portion for the soup or I just have 4 stomach and this was disconcerting to me. Keep in mind that they only have 1 size bowl so you can’t order a large, medium or small… there’s just one medium bowl with enough food to feed maybe a 10 year old. I have to say that they are very scanty with the food. If you have a big appetite, I would recommend ordering a second bowl… II hope it doesn’t come out too negative but I could see it improving their portion and keeping the consistency because this place has become my second home. I will continue to dine here regardless of my bickering.

Went here with friends tonight… were excited to try a new Vietnamese restaurant in Duluth. This place is right beside planet fitness on pleasant hill drive. I don’t know why my friends weren’t adventurous tonight but out of the four of us only I ordered something out of the ordinary. All my friends ordered the com dac biets… And you can find this dish in every phở restaurants lol. But I ordered a Bun Tam Bi(silky noodles with shredded pork). This dish was what I grew up in Vietnam eating. This dish consist of you mixing the silky white noodles with the shreded pork with all the veggies. Then your pour on coconut cream and sweet fish sauce. Peanuts is an option and most people would get peanuts… but if you are allergic to this, make sure to let them know or else they will put peanuts on the plate. I really liked this dish! They execute this plate really well! I would say only my sister makes this better… but then I might be biased on that lol. For the com dac biet(special rice plate) is nothing special. You can get that anywhere. I also got the avocado smoothie and that was good. Not light and unsweetened like some restaurant. They just don’t have tapioca pearls… which I think they should add to their smoothies soon. Lol Overall, I had a great experience(mainly with the foods), the service was okay. They checked up on us like once. Nothing spectacular. I will visit again with family later. :)

Woohoo! Not another Vietnamese Phở restaurant!(They actually don’t serve any Phở here so be warned.) After reading the Unilocal reviews, I knew I had to check this place out. It’s located right next to Planet Fitness on Pleasant Hill Rd. Genius location. Who wouldn’t want some good cooking after a hard work out. We came in on a Friday afternoon and found the restaurant empty. We were quickly greeted and received amazing service which is pretty uncommon at most other Asian restaurants. We were checked on numerous times and they always made sure we had everything we needed. The server spoke to us only in Vietnamese so I can’t attest to whether or not there may be a communication barrier. However, the menu does a great job of translating all the dishes. I was also really impressed by the décor of this place. The first area actually opens up into a larger more elegantly decorated room with gorgeous paintings and great photographs of Vietnamese dishes. Definitely good enough to take a date to or a nice outing. The menu consisted of many entrees that is very true to authentic Vietnamese cooking. Full of flavor, texture, variety of spices and the occasional odd smells. This is the stuff I grew up on and I’m so glad there’s a place that isn’t afraid to present it to the American palate. We tried the Thai tea which was less sweet than at some other places, which I preferred. My girlfriend convinced me to try the soda with raw egg for the first time, stating«It’s a great hangover drink.» Please note, neither one of us were hungover but I will keep this in mind. They give you a large mug with condensed milk and 2 raw eggs in it and you pour in a bottle of soda and mix. It tasted like a cream soda which was tasty but it wasn’t really my thing. For appetizers, we got mango salad. It’s a similar to a papaya salad but more tart due to the fresh green mangos. For entrees, I saw a variety of rice, vermicelli, and egg noodle dishes. After salivating over the Unilocal pictures, I had to get the Bun Mam(Vietnamese gumbo consisting of large noodles in a broth of fermented fish paste and various proteins like pork, squid, shrimp, and white fish). It smells so bad but tastes so good. I had to ask for more fermented fish paste because the broth was not salty enough for me. I’m sure it would have been fine for anyone else but I was raised on high sodium and still love it. My friend got the Mi Vit Tiem(Egg Noodles with Braised Duck) and she really enjoyed it. Prices were very affordable with huge portions. Most entrees were $ 8 – 9. We dined like kings and left completely stuff. I’m excited to come back to try some of the other unique dishes!

Oh, hello deliciousness… «Rare Authentic Vietnamese food» plus«nice & welcoming setting» goes together? It does indeed, my lovelies! I came to check out Com Mai on a Friday night for their GRANDOPENING and was very pleasantly surprised! To be honest, Vietnamese food doesn’t excite me like it used to anymore. I have been to many Asian and so-called Vietnamese restaurant in Georgia and they more or less all serve the same basic food. BORING! Com Mai offers the«forgotten dishes» also known as, authentic Vietnamese dishes that are hard to find in a majority of Vietnamese Restaurants now a day. Com Mai is located in the same shopping center as Don Pedro, Planet Fitness, and Guitar Center. It is also at the intersection of Pleasant Hill Road & Club Drive. It can easily be missed since the location is far back & hard to see. The FORGOTTENDISHES are Vietnamese Dishes that are hard to make, hard to find & require Chefs to originate from a certain region(North or South) in Vietnam to deliver the exact flavor of the dish from that region. Here are a list of the dishes I’ve tried & what I think about them 1. Bun Mam– Vietnamese Gumbo, a rarely found fermented thick Vietnamese vermicelli soup. «Bun» refers to the steamed rice vermicelli, and the key to this soup is the«mam», as in mam ca loc(fermented fish paste) or mam tom(fermented shrimp paste). I didn’t hesitate to order this and out came a huge bowl of murky opaque broth filed with thin vermicelli noodles, coarse chunks of skin-on salmon steak, shrimp, squid, sprouts, basil leaves, etc. The best ways to describe it: Rich, smelly, salty, heady, tangy, sweet & sour, spicy and pungent. 9⁄10 2. Mi Quang– is a Vietnamese Flat noodle dish that originated from Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam. Part soup, part salad, it’s rich with chicken broth and tinted yellow rice noodles, freshened up with crunchy vegetables, and topped with everything from chicken to shrimp to Pork. Mi Quang also comes with extras such as hard-boiled egg, crushed peanuts, Cha(Steamed Pork Sausage), chili pepper or chilli sauce, fresh vegetables and pieces of toasted sesame rice crackers called bánh tráng me. I would rate this dish 9 out of 10. 3. Banh Cuon– also known as «Rolled Cake», is made from a thin, wide sheet of steamed rice batter filled with seasoned ground pork, minced mushrooms, and fried shallots. Sides for this dish usually consist of Cha Lua(Vietnamese pork sausage), sliced cucumber, and bean sprouts, with Fish Sauce as the dipping sauce. This is my favorite dish here. The Banh Cuon here are made on the go so it’s definitely fresh & tasty. 10⁄10 4. Mi Vit Tiem– is simply Roasted Duck with Egg Noodle Soup. The Mi Vit Tiem is the signature dish here & it’s definitely the best. The Duck & the broth were both flavorful. The noodles has the right consistency of soft and chewy and the vegetables were a nice complement to everything else. It was sweet, but not sugary. Dark in color, but light on your palate. The duck, marinated and braised, was plentiful and juicy. 10⁄10 5. Goi Xoai–(Green Mango Salad), is made with very firm, green mangoes marinated in a garlicky, pungent fish sauce. I thought the Mango Salad was on the sour side, so make sure you are aware of this. The mango was very crunchy and tasty. I would recommend this dish if you like sour stuff. 8⁄10 6. Bun Thai’- was outstanding! To me, Bun Thai taste more like Bun with Canh Chua(Vermicelli & sweet/sour soup). After trying everything I have to say my favorite dish is the Mi Vit Tiem. The broth was made out of soup & herbs. The herbs made the broth very flavorful & the smell was was just so relaxing. Service is lightning speed here. They want to take your order as soon as you sit down & they want to make sure the food gets out to you quick. Everything about this place is fast moving. All in all, one of the better Vietnamese places that offers hard to find dishes. The service is good, the price is reasonable, and the food is… you already know. AMAZING!!! I will definitely be back very soon.

I will have the say this . I been going to another Vietnamese restaurant for quite some time now and they always have good food, but with in the last couple moths I was extremely disappointing so I had to look else where to dine . Came to Com Mai for dinner on Sunday, place was busy but we got seated right away . Typical Vietnamese place as to expect . Food was fantastic to say the least, my wife and her friend loved their dish and so did I :) A new place for us to Dine from now one, food is pretty much authentic at a fair price . Update 12÷26÷14 I’d like to go there more often BUT they need to look into some type of ventilation to keep the place slightly fresher(Air). You will acquire a strong food odor throughout the day, even inside my car and let’s no mention the clothes you’re wearing wow . Only downside but it keeps from going back as often as I would like to.

Com Mai offers many authentic Vietnamese dishes that are hard to find in Georgia. Great prices, food, & service. I love that Vietnamese food’s always so cheap & delicious! Com Mai is located in the same shopping center as Planet Fitness & Don Pedro at the intersection of Club Dr & Pleasant Hill. I was excited about many items on the menu but this is what we ended up ordering: ~ bun mam(Vietnamese gumbo — fermented fish broth, rice vermicelli, seafood, pork) — this is my favorite Vietnamese noodle soup. I’ve been craving it for awhile but have not been able to find a good bowl until Com Mai. It does smell bc of the fermented fish so eat at your own risk. ~ mi vit tiem(Vietnamese roasted duck soup w/egg noodle) — huge portion; you get a whole duck leg. My bf really enjoyed this.

I never actually post reviews on Unilocal. But since this is a new business I figured why not just share my thoughts. I’ve been to Com Mai twice this week and it’s been good. So far. My first time here, I ordered food togo. I had the Bun Mang Vit for my brother & Banh Uot Dac Biet for myself. The portion itself was pretty decent. My brother said his bun was good. My Banh Uot was also delicious. Although a little more meat would have been better. The second time I was here, I came with a good friend of mine and we dined in. This time I wanted to try their bun mang vit, but the waiter said they were out, so I tried their bun mam instead. Which was good, I haven’t had bun mam in awhile so I’m not quite sure on how it was actually suppose to be like. But it was good to me. My friend had the bun bo hue, and I tried the broth and it wasn’t as… Flavorful. It didn’t taste like bun bo hue, my friend had to add a little more fish sauce and other stuff to it to make it a little more tasty. I guess it’s a hit and miss on what you order. But I’ll definitely come back here to try their other dishes
