The bathroom was filthy, blood stain on the floor, food was barely warm, sides warmed up in boiling water in front of the customer. Didn’t change anything between customers. Hot bbq Sauce in big buckets with little containers easy to spill on your hands. Meat was Greasy, not up to even minimum kc standards. Not worth the money, any BBQ joint is better.

I stopped at Dickies for lunch today and not impressed! $ 16 and change for the two meat platter and drink, received two small slices of brisket and 5 or 6 pieces of sausage. Very stingy with the portions and not what I expect for a $ 16 lunch. I eat at Dickies other locations frequently when traveling for business and this one does not live up to their standards. If you are going to compete in the BBQ market in KC, put some meat on the plate or stay home!

Setting the stage, Kansas City is about the most competitive BBQ market there is. Any place else in the US I would give Dickey’s 4 four stars, but with Gates, Bryant’s, LC’s, Q-39, Joe’s Kansas City, and Char Bar all within range, Dickey’s is good to pretty good. Having all those other giants of Kansas City BBQ in recent memory puts Dickey’s with an unfair, unlevel playing field. After all that is said, Dickey’s does have a lot going for it. Their location in the shopping center with Lowe’s, Best Buy, Kohl’s, and a bunch of other stuff, makes it an easy target for an impluse lunch or dinner. Parking is rarely an issue. Service is very good, the menu is well rounded, wait times are very short, and the BBQ is more than acceptable in our market. Seating has never been an issue any of the times we have been there, and the«free ice cream» is always a hit. As BBQ goes, Dickey’s is more of a cross between Kansas City style and Memphis style. Sauces are more Kansas City style, but milder and thiner. The ribs have always been very good, neither undercooked or overcooked like I have found many times in Memphis. I am using ribs as my bench mark, so while there are«ribs to die for» at the other Kansas City Giants, if you are hungry for rib while driving down Chipman Road in Lee’s Summit, it’s a good option. I find their sides equal(overall) to just about any place in town. In fact, give the BBQ beans a shot, I do not think you would be disappointed! Smoked turkeys can be ordered — but do not expect leftovers! We had one for Thanksgiving and it was a rousing hit with all at the table. Again, it is not a Kansas City Giant, but it is more than acceptable in this crazy competitive market. Yes, i have been there a number of times and plan on going back.

Best damn BBQ I’ve had in quite some time! Highly recommend. Had the ribs and sausage. Both perfect and the country style green beans rocked!

I don’t know what the last guy was talking about guess he wasn’t smart enough to look around for sauce. Maybe he should have checked the sack before he left, he must always have great experiences at McDonalds. This place is awesome! My family just ate there and will definitely be making this our go to place. Even though they were short staffed and busy the employees were nice the place was clean and the food rocked. The ribs are as good as any place in Kansas City. The prices are reasonable, and the $ 8.99 daily special is one of the better bargains we have found. It includes a good size sandwich 2 sides and a drink. The sandwiches were not served with sauce but there is a sauce bar beside the drink machine, and did I mention FREE ice cream(unfortunately out of order when we were there). Overall one of the better BBQ places for the money! Will definitely be returning SOON!

I love BBQ. I love the smell of the smoke but learned a long time ago that smoke can be deceiving. Anyone can burn wood but not everyone can make good bbq. In this case I’m not even sure there is smoke involved. I wanted to like the place. It was new and it’s close to home. As I was on my lunch break I ordered the beef brisket sandwich and a side of beans to go. This was the first time(and spoiler alert — the last time) ordering from Dickey’s so I was a bit surprised when I pulled the sandwich out and it was dry, no sauce. Looked in the bag, no sauce. Okay well I gotta eat so I grin & bear it, bite into the sandwich. It was dry, chewy and did I say dry? I ate half the sandwich and threw the rest in the trash. I couldn’t chew it. It literally hurt my jaw to try. I moved to the beans. The tiny little serving of beans. I would prefer plain Van Camps cold out of the can. That’s not a compliment. This is not BBQ. At least not for someone who likes good BBQ. I suppose if you’d never had good BBQ or your taste buds were dead you may like this but since the Fiorella’s are opening a new Jack Stack just across the parking lot I think Dickey’s owner should think about changing over to a retail store or maybe even an independent coffee shop. Trust me, Dickey’s will NOT be getting the overflow from a crowded Jack Stack. Until Jack Stack opens, heck even after, and you want to try some AMAZING brisket that won’t choke you to death if there is no sauce try Porky’s in Grain Valley. Just remember to take cash. Zarda in Blue Springs is better & Three Pigs Mobile, parked at 2nd and 291 is a good alternative too.

Opening a ‘chain’ bbq plane in KC is risky. But Dickeys has done it well. It is not my favorite bbq spot in KC, but it is good food for a good price. I like the brisket chopped sandwich. Haven’t tried the ribs yet. A nice lunch spot.

Terrible food. Not worth the money for the price you pay. It’s a shame because it’s in a great location. But location is not everything.

The brisket was a disappointment since it was dry. The flavor was good, just dry. Had the bbq beans for the first time, they have pieces of brisket mixed in. I would get them again. Dickey’s now has a loyalty card. After four visits you get a free drink. On the ninth visit it is a free Big BBQ sandwich.

Dickey’s is a cafeteria style BBQ joint. Also they aren’t Kansas City style BBQ either, so you won’t be getting the burnt ends. All that being said, they are pretty decent. Straight forward menu and free soft serve cone for desert.

Hubby and I ventured in here last Friday and used the Value Pak coupon. Hubby is a native of KC and was previous a huge fan of Gates(I think Gate’s sauce is too spicy). I really liked Dickey’s. The sides were fresh and tasty. I loved the freshness of the coleslaw and found the green beans to actually have flavor. I loved the BIGYELLOWCUP for soda and the fact that they serve Coke products. The smoked meat sandwich was yummy. I had the beef brisket and loved the fact that I could apply my own sauce and it wasn’t saturated in sauce. I tried the original sauce which for me had the right amount of sweetness and heat. The sweet sauce was too sweet for my tastes. I walked out of there satisfied almost to the point of being stuffed with just the two sides, soda and regular sandwich. They use fresh onions and pickles on the sandwich. Hubby had the bigger sandwich with pulled pork and beef brisket and he was over the top raving on how good it was. I liked the décor. It reminded me of a place we use to frequent in Clarksville, IN when we lived there. We were still talking about this BBQ lunch on Sunday and know we will be going back and adding Dickey’s to our rotation of regular places to eat. The topper for us was the ice cream cones at the end of the meal. Hubby loves his soft serve, and it is really good soft serve.

We have eaten at a Dickey’s in Overland Park and were excited when they were going to open one closer to my home. Consistently the food tastes good, but is often not very warm when you receive it, and the customer service is just ok. The way they fix your food contributes to why the food is cold. They make your sandwich or meat item, and then it sits while fries, or other items are fixed. Even the sides are not even that warm. They do not have a good way to get their ice cream except on a cone. Other locations have a cup bigger then a sauce cup to put it in. I’m afraid if they don’t improve their quality that when Jack Stack goes in they will not make it.

Man! This place has REALLY gone down hill since they opened. The place is filthy and the workers are rude. Plus, now that Jack Stack is opening a location in Lees Summit, they now longer have the BBQ desert bonus. The big boys are coming to town and Dicky’s has not kept up the standards they had when they opened.

In a town like KC, a chain like Dickey’s has a lot to live up to. I like some of their sides and the meat is better than you’d expect for a chain. It surpasses some of the local ‘que I’ve had. The last time I was in there a couple of weeks ago, it seems like the people working there are going to be the downfall of the place, not the actual BBQ. It’d been about six months since I’d been in there, and the place wasn’t as clean as it was before. I don’t know if I just missed a «rush» or what, but everything just seemed a little dirty and the floors and table were greasy. The area behind the counter was very messy. The girl taking my order was pretty rude. Like I said, I haven’t been in for a while, and I was reading the menu. She asked if she could take our order, and I said I needed a few minutes to read over the menu. About 20 seconds later, she asked if we were ready, and I asked for a little longer to read the menu. She sighed like I was holding her up, gave me about 20 more seconds and then said«You ready now?» I understand if I was holding up a line of 25 people that you might want to move me along. My buddy and I were the only people in line at the time. The food and sides are a 3⁄5. Your experience with the service will hopefully be better than mine.

Jack Stacks, LC“s or Oklahoma Joe’s are my favorite BBQ in Kansas City. I had seen Dickeys from the parking lot, but never ventured into it. We went to Dickey’s(I think I’ve been to another Dickey’s near Sedalia, written in the same characters, same sign, same inside… what ever). When you enter, you order. It was confusing, but as soon as we figured it out, we were able to order. We had a half a slab, 2 sides(onion strings, bbq beans.) They knew there were 2 of us, we got it on one tray. I had to wait inline to get another plate. That probably knocked them down a star. I know when we go back, I will politely remind them to give us an extra tray or plate, so we can both eat comfortably. They almost acted like it was an issue. Maybe it was, they were busy. The BBQ sauce, a bit thin, and I couldn’t tell much of a difference between sweet and original. But the meat on the ribs was delicious. The bbq beans were okay. The free ice cream, yummy. One thing odd was, you couldn’t smell the bbq smoking from the outside. I will be back again. This is the best place for bbq around here. Scrumptious!

What for it. .Dickey’s. Bar Bbq The name threw me. Oh, no it’s me. I’m sick of the name dick or dickey in dealing with Bbq. Why. I have heard this so many times… Beyond the the wrong name choice. For a totally strip mall experience, and no other local choice near by. The brisket had a a nice flavor and service was good. Sauces. You know. Still a yes.

Update. from previous flamingly bad rating. Had a bad customer service experience, but brought it to their attention and they worked on making it right, and have assured me they will work on fixing customer service issues and FrontFlip wording. The food was pretty good, but the chicken nuggets for the little kids need some work. I’ll give them another try…

I feel bad giving this place two stars but I was disappointed in the BBQ itself. I was craving for burnt ends and was very disappointed that the menu did not carry them, so I decided to order the beef brisket and chicken. I felt both were just meh, nothing special, the sauce also did not measure up to the other BBQ sauces I have enjoyed from other KC restaurants or even the grocery store. I give the BBQ meats and sauce only two stars. I did enjoy the onion strings — I give them five stars. I also give the staff 5 stars. They were friendly and seemed to enjoy their jobs. Will I try this restaurant again — probably not.
