I was neither impressed, nor completely turned off, by Toma’s. The food and pricing are what you’d expect from a small Coney, but it was the waitstaff that cost this place no less than 1 full star. First, if you plan to eat there, don’t. Or at least be patient. There are so few tables that the first question asked is if you called your order in(to go). Luckily, I found a small table with the gun shot riddled door view(see photos). I placed my order, 2 eggs(over easy), hash browns, gyro meat and white bread toast. My order came: sausage instead of gyro meat. Sent it back. When the toast arrived(well into eating), it was wheat. The eggs were runny, like sunny side up runny. Personally, if I weren’t killing time at 9am waiting on my car at the service shop next door, I wouldn’t return.

I have been going to here since I was a kid. It used to be our daily breakfast place we would walk all the way there. The food is so good and super cheap owners are awesome as well

I’ve been here a gazillion billion trillion times and I can’t believe I never dropped a review at my favorite joint in the whole wide world. Speaking of favorites, it’s low key, it’s no b.s. and it’s awesome food. This is by far the best place downriver to go for lunch and breakfast. It’s sort of like a treat, whenever I do something good or a special day when we don’t feel like whipping up something to eat in my kitchen. Detroit and the Downriver area is littered with coney island restaurants that’ll serve you breakfast coney dogs all day long. The thing the separates Toma’s from the rest is that they only cater to the breakfast eating morning person to the late lunch type of person. The food here is top knotch. Specially their coneys. Every time we step into this establishment, it’s automatic that 2 coneys, a coney slider and an order of chili cheese fries to share fly to our table. That my friend is how we do it here in Detroit. Only a few restaurants serve a coney dog that can hold a candle to the famous Lafayette coneys in downtown detroit. This is one of them as far as I’m concerned. Remember, this isn’t your typical all about space and flair type of coney restaurant. Seating is limited and they don’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait your turn. Make sure to order the coney sliders as well, it’s that destructive! Weeeeeeeeee! Follow me on Instagram @rodtorres3
