really great menu and everything is good(that i’ve had) I love the simplicity of the Una Don, the eel is prepared really well and is really soft. The sauce is good and the ginger gives it a nice kick when I’m in the mood for it. The sashimi rice is great if you know what you’re getting as it’s not for everyone. Also, the spicy seafood soup is amazing and the portions are BIG

We are a fan of Tanaka Sushi, wish they can fix the odor and cleanness problems, great potential and always great sushi!

Husband and I ate here a couple weeks ago. Upon walking in, we noticed a very foul odor, somewhere between stinky mop and backed up sewer sulphur smell. Despite that, we stayed for lunch as this place was recommended by a co-worker of mine. Tanaka has a very small store-front with only 6 or 7 tables, and 6 bar stools, accommodating a total of 20 people. There is no waitress service here; and drinks, soy sauce, chopsticks, etc., are all self-serve. Tables are quite wobbly which was a disaster with our hot soup and hot tea. We were very happy with the menu selection of both sushi and Korean food. We shared the dweji-bulgogi(spicy pork) which tastes great; ramyun soup(ramen) which sadly only had a few pieces of sliced rice cake and green onions added(no veggies); and red dragon sushi roll which tastes good. I like that the chef uses rayu chili oil in his spicy tuna mix, but the large chunks of tuna on top was a bit too much raw fish for me. Will definitely go back to Tanaka if we are in the area. Great for weekday lunchtime getaway or quick dinner.

It’s official, I LOVE Tanaka Sushi. You just cannot beat the Tanaka box special anywhere… ANYWHERE. The fish tastes fresh and the price point is out of this world. Every time I go this place is busy with take-out or people who are dining in. The sushi chef is very friendly too and gets to making your rolls right away. My parents usually get one of their hot soups or bento boxes(I’m the only one who gets the sushi), and the hot soups are delicious too. I’ve even seen some diners get basic egg fried rice! Everything about this place is perfect, I cannot believe it so affordable yet is on par with all the other Japanese restaurants I have ever been to(including large metropolitan cities) whose dishes are easily 2x the price. I came back home for the holidays and there were 3 things I NEEDED in my belly Naf Naf, Portillos, and Tanaka Sushi.(This is coming from a girl who gets sushi on a weekly basis). *For those who visit Tanaka sushi for the first time read my initial review– it’s a self serve place. The hot tea and water are to the left of where you pick up your food. The utensils are there too!

I’ve dined here once and I’ve also eaten take-out from Tanaka Sushi. Dining in is very informal-you order your food at the counter and then wait for it to be prepared. You choose your own table to eat at-they call you up to the counter when it’s done. The sushi is quite delicious here. I also believe that the prices are reasonable. The rolls are done well and the portions are great. The portions for the sashimi are especially generous. I thought that the fish was fresh and tasted great. I have also tried the ramen. I did not like the ramen that much, but this is definitely more of a sushi place. Get your ramen in the city or in the Northwest suburbs, not here. If you are in the area and want some sushi, definitely try this place out. It’s not fancy, but the food is great, service is quick enough, and it’s a suitable place for a quick dine-in or you can just grab and go.

I tried this place for the first time today, and it exceeded my expectations! I’ve been hoping for a Korean café like this to open around here. I’m Korean, and I would say that their Korean food was very tasty and authentic! My husband and I really enjoyed the sashimi rice bowl and spicy noodle soup. However, the spicy pork was just so so. The food came out very fast(5−10min), which always makes me happy. I’ll definitely be coming here more often! I’m really excited to try their sushi and hot stone mixed rice.

If I need a quick fix for Korean food, this is the place to go to around this neck of the woods. However, the quality of the food is nothing too special. The side dishes are absolutely minimal(kimchi and pickled radishes) which is kind of a big deal for me at least. They are very quick with the service though. I’ve never had to wait longer than 5~10 min for my food to come out. Plan on keep going but mainly due to lack of variety in this neighborhood. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t give out 5 stars easily, and this is no exception. I’ve been here. three times now and have tried several dishes, all of them very good. As has already been noted, it’s s a small place with seating for about 20 – 30 people and no table service. Place your order then pick it up when it’s ready. Brisk business on Friday night. restaurant pretty full and phone ringing off the hook for take out orders. On my most recent visit I tried the Sashimi rice dish. It was very, very good. Large bowl with a pile of rice in the bottom, several pieces of Sashimi and a pile of greens on top. Served with a nice sauce for dressing it up. Highly recommended. Nice to have this place so close to home. We’ll be back often.

This is an order at the counter type sushi place. Spent $ 65 on 4 rolls and 8 pieces of sushi, not too bad compared to many sushi places I’ve been. Once I saw how the place was set up, I didn’t expect the sushi to be that great, but I decided to trust Unilocal! The sushi and rolls all tasted very fresh, and were not too heavy on the rice. I will be back next time I need a quick and casual sushi fix!

Love coming here for a quick bite… The rolls are very good and pretty reasonably priced. The sushi rice is really nicely seasoned/vinegared, so each roll tastes different. I’ve only tried one of their Korean soups, and it was pretty solid. The Korean dishes only come with two(maybe three) ban Chan/side dishes, but this is normal for a fast food/casual place. Like most people, the sashimi rice is one of my favorites. I throw in the house salad and can share it with my boyfriend!

Tanaka Sushi is a cute, friendly place with a nice selection of options that will satisfy you and your party! The place is pretty small and I got tons of awesome feels upon entering. Service: The best! The person behind the counter helped me out with the veg. options and we ended up picking a delicious looking roll for my Dad. Food: Mmmmmmm! Tofu soup was spiced to perfection! Value: Awesome, given the above! Honestly, this place is a solid 4.5 stars but I haven’t tried enough of the menu to give it «The 5». Seriously, stop reading and give this place a shot!

Tanaka Sushi is a great little place for a quick sushi fix. You order at the counter to go or eat in. It’s very casual and the sushi quality is quite good. My son comes often and enjoys the bento box. Today we had the tanaka box which is a good deal for $ 15.99; includes two rolls, sashimi pieces and sushi pieces and miso soup. I highly recommend this sushi place.

Got take out here– one weird thing was that they packaged each dish in its individual plastic bag, so I ended up having to juggle 4 bags to my car. Prices are reasonable and taste is decent if you don’t want to trek far for Korean/sushi. The bulgogi beef was sliced very thick, not the typical beef that I see and was just mediocore. The spicy seafood noodle soup was pretty good and the gyoza is really deep fried mandoo(tasted like it could have been bought frozen?). The sashimi rice was good, there was plenty of fish and it was fresh tasting– only thing that threw me off was that there was no rice, just salad, so maybe they should name it sashimi salad?

My friend took us here for lunch. I really like this place! It’s a fast food Korean/Japanese café. Decently priced food — I love the idea and the food selection is plenty! I ordered the bibimbop — pretty tasty! My husband had their chicken fried rice which he liked, too. Couple of my friends ordered their sashimi rice dish which both said was good and very refreshing — chunks of fish on top of a bed of salad. My friend also ordered a spicy noodle dish to share with the table which we all enjoyed. I really like this place, but too bad it’s so far away. I wish they’ll be building more locations in the Chicago/Chicagoland area!

Fresh. You get more than what you pay for! I’m not a huge fan of spicy tuna because the tuna usually tastes like grounded fish, but here, they toss Amal chunks of tuna in your spicy tuna, which actually makes it taste like sushi! The fish is fresh. I usually order sashimi and wait a couple of minutes because the temperature of the fish makes it taste like they took it straight out of the fridge but here, I can eat it right away and still expect greatness. The atmosphere is quiet and calm. Not the fanciest Japanese restaurant but definitely good enough to enjoy some quality sushi. Also, FYI, the owner is Korean so half of their menu is Korean food. Their Korean food is pretty good too. I’d say it’s a nice place if you are in the mood for a quiet, quick meal while enjoying good food!

We’ be just moved from Chicago and found this restaurant on Unilocal with rave reviews. Tried it yesterday for the first time with my two gourmand kids(4 and 9) and ordered the salmon teriyaki, shrimp tempura udon and shrimp fried rice!!! The two rice dishes included miso soup. We enjoyed everything. The flavors and presentation of the food were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and so far our best find since we’ ve moved to the burbs two weeks ago! Oh it was so good that my kids asked to go back today to try other items on the menu… Today 5÷6÷15 I ordered the sashimi bowl, una don(eel on rice) and my 4 yo had a taste for tuna w/avocado maki!!! The raw fish in the sashimi was one of the freshest I have ever tasted… Yes and you can try it for your self at this awesome joint!!! You will be going back to try other items in the menu. They do not do delivery, just pick up!!! Additionally I like the feel and décor of this cafeteria-style restaurant. It’s clean, feels current(not just a whole in the wall type place) and the proprietors are nice and pleasant. The chef and owner Mr Tanaka prepares the sushi offerings himself, so prepare yourself for a real treat, you deserve it :)) Thumbs Up Way Up for this sushi joint in Lisle.

Chef Tanaka’s gyozas are probably the best I’ve ever had. His spicy tuna is second to non. The Red Dragon Roll is my favorite. I’ve had a lot off of this menu and it’s all a sure bet. I moved so I don’t get to go there very often but whenever I have sushi, I always wish it was nearby. For a fast causal sushi place, this is a five star.

One man operation. Seems to know his walk in customers. Nice guy. Good is priced well. I didn’t like the smell inside. especially being a sushi place, but again saw customers getting food so figured I’ll trust it.

My family and I frequent Tanaka when we are craving some good Korean soup dishes and/or fresher Sushi. The owners are nice, and it’s a serve yourself kind of a restaurant with a small cafeteria feel to it which I usually don’t care for much, but it works for this place. My favorite order for lunchtime is typically the Tanaka Box — thick slices of sashimi, delicious spicy tuna or salmon roll, and good sized nigiri. I also love their BiBimBaps & Rice bowls when I want a lighter meal. Most of the soup dishes are pretty close to homemade quality, and I know my family loves a variety of soups here such as Kimchi Jjigae, Spicy seafood noodle soup, and several of their other seafood /spicy soups with rice. It’s easy to miss Tanaka(in my opinion) while driving down Ogden Avenue if you aren’t looking for it. It is located on Ogden in a small strip mall, but I would have never seen it if someone hadn’t told me about it. If you love a home-cooked type Korean meal with a cafeteria type feel or decent Sushi, Tanaka is the spot to try out!
