Although the food is delicious, I’m giving this place 1 star because they are NEVER open and I live on Thornton Rd behind the restaurant. It has been that way for months now. At first they started out being open every other day, to the point I actually had to call and see so I wouldn’t make a blank trip over there. Now they don’t even open at all. I don’t know what’s going on. I try to support local businesses, and this is disappointing because it was actually the best soul food restaurant in the area.

Are they ever opened? They are never open when I go there and I go during the times they have listed on the door.

Beef tips and gravy over rice awesome. Cabbage side dish even better. Collard greens left something to be desired. Friend had chicken and dumplings and liked it:)

wow, what a great little place. The staff is super friendly and the food is amazing in taste. I had the liver with collards and green beans. As the meat was good, the sides were amazing. I regret not ordering an additional dish, as the food was well prepared and great in flavor. I will make sure to come back when I’m down here for my next business trip.

My second trip here, it’s all good! The baked chicken is melt in your mouth and the green beans are close to Grandma’s! The staff is very nice and friendly too. It’s a little hard to find, tucked behind Waffle House, but worth the search!

Visiting the area from Virginia Beach. Makes no sense… This quaint little place deserves a big thumbs up. I had the fried whiting dinner. Glory! They made it to order. It was so hot and crispy, I felt like screaming! Let me not forget the friendly, attentive service. I will pay them a visit when I’m in the area again.

Great down home cooking I recommend the basil bake chicken along with the turkey wings. The food is always fresh and flavorful. One of the few places that has full size fried wings he green beans and macaroni&cheese is great

This is the BEST soul food I have had in atlanta since moving here. Its a decent sized place with a few tables set out. The only thing is they need a make-over but this review is about the FOOD! I mean that’s what it’s about right? The service was friendly and fast as well. The vegetables do not seem to be canned at all, everything seems fresh, well seasoned and made with love! Thumbs up! I’d recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic soul food in atlanta. Great place to stop by after church for some good gospel music playing and good food!

Ok, so my bf was asking about Soul food in the area so I check out Unilocal. It was a Sunday and the line was out the door! I was pleased with my food. Go for the fried chicken and mac and cheese… throw in some bananna pudding and it’s a home run!

I stopped here after hearing a few people on Facebook speak about this restaurant. It’s a very quiant location in a shopping plaza in between a Check Cashing store and a Waffle House. I came on a Wednesday just before noon. I noticed that there was only one other car in the VERYSMALL parking lot, so I immediately thought, «Oh Hell. It’s lunch time and no one is here. NOTGOOD!». Well I entered and straight ahead of me I saw 4 elderly people getting their grub one. That plus the wonderful aroma of Soul Food instantly put me at ease! To the right of the entrance sits a TV that is mounted on the wall and a Chalk Board was on the floor with the days meal. The food is served Cafeteria Style and you can view the items that are available for that day just behind the countertop. I had already viewed the menu on the board so I said, I’ll have a Turkey Wing Plate and a Fried Chicken Plate. The young lady, whom acknowledge me as soon as I entered, informed me that they did not have Turkey. I turned to read the sign again thinking that maybe I subconsciously wanted Turkey and had misread the chalk board. Quickly she said, that board is wrong. So I leaned over to view what was available for the day. I picked Fried Chicken, Mac N Cheese and String Beans for one meal. The second meal I picked was Baked Chicken with extra Gravy, Black Eyed Peas and Cabbage. Each plate came with a Cornbread Muffin and I ordered a Sweet Tea with no ice, but it came with ice. I started eating my meal as I was at the red light because it smelled so darn good! Everything was GREAT! Now please keep in mind that many restaurants don’t season foods as heavily as we would at home. So I did add some seasoning with I finally made it home. But the food was so good that I had already eaten half of the Fried Chicken Plate and started nibbling on the Baked Chicken Plate. The Fried Chicken was wonderful. Cooked and seasoned well and crispy. The Mac N Cheese was pretty good. Nice and Cheesy! The Cabbages seemed a little over cooked because it was very soft. But the Black Eyed Peas and String Beans were on point. I was a little disappointed in the Baked Chicken that I tasted later in the evening. It was a tad dry to me but the flavor was good and the gravy saved it from being too dry overall. That damn Fried Chicken really hit the spot though. Of yeah, the Cornbread muffin was good and went well with my Fried Chicken and Mac N Cheese. I can’t really comment on the Sweet Tea because it had ice in it and by the time I got around to tasting it the ice had melted. I think this place is a great new find. When I don’t want to cook a meal that tastes like it came from my grand mama’s house I will stop here for a meal that tastes like my mama’s cooking, i.e. GREAT Soul Food with less seasoning than Grandma does it! 4 Star instead of 5 Star because the restaurant is old and could use some renovating.
