My wife and I, and my son, as well as another couple who we used to meet at Harry’s for dinner on a regular basis, were shocked and heartbroken to go over there for dinner recently, only to suddenly find out that they had closed, and for good? What the heck? We’ve been regular customers at this location from the very first day they opened up(not all that long ago, either), and got to know the staff on a first-name basis. Steve, the manager, was always ready to serve us personally, and ask us how we were doing. And, the selection of FOOD? Well, it couldn’t have gotten any better than what they offered there… and their meatloaf was the best I’ve ever had! I mean, where else could you go on any given day of the year and have a full-course«Thanksgiving dinner style» turkey dinner, with all the usual trimmings, whenever you wanted it? And, the interior was so tastefully done, plus, we always loved the free guitar/vocal and banjo bands that would appear there on a regular basis. The bottom line is that we feel like there’s been an unexpected death in the family, and to lose such a great place to eat in downtown Livermore will leave a hole that can never be explained adequately, to those of us that were«regulars» there!

Yes, it’s true. It’s closed down, dark and the parking lot is gated off too. I will miss their comfort food. The folks were very nice and friendly and the meals were very satisfying, especially for the price. I hope someone opens a place like it in the tri valley. I’ll miss you guys.

CLOSEDDOWN!!! :( It’s a sad day indeed. Called them today to find out what was on their specials menu and a staff member told me that they recently closed down on Saturday. Said that they just weren’t getting enough business to keep it open. Maybe all those other«cooler» trendier restaurants down the street took all the crowds. This was one of my favorite restaurants in the 925 area. Great comfort food at reasonable prices. I have introduced many friends and co-workers to this place and all of them loved it. I will miss their meatloaf, country-fried steaks, meat sandwiches, and their desserts. Also I have yet to try out their prime rib and roasted turkey entrées :(

Whoa. First Brentwood closes, now Livermore. We called one of the others and was told it shut effective Sunday Nov 3. RIP…

Reminds me of a military chow hall, waiting in line for food… I don’t get it… looking at the last piece of cheese cake with 10 people in front of me is torture… what food I did get was average… blahhhhh

I really enjoyed the food here although I thought the prices were a little higher than I would have hoped. Each dish was about 8 bucks which is a dollar more than I would have paid. Good food — Tri tip sandwich and roast beef. Good cuts of meat on decent bread. Gravy over the roast beef was tasty. Get the tri tip with bbq sauce; it was so worth it. The mashed potatoes weren’t very creamy and blander than I would have liked. Service — Fast service and nice people. Nothing wrong with that.

I absolutely love this place. I recently had the tri tip platter, And let me say, it was perfect! Served with mashed potatoes and a simple side salad with thousand island and it was a perfect trifecta. Great vibe, great food, and decent price!

This was our St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage dinner, because I wasn’t going to attempt to cook that. We called it in for take out. I was slightly disappointed. Maybe it’s because my first and many there after experiences with corned beef were made my by Irish ex-step mom. She was a raging bitch, but she made a delicious corned beef. This corned beef was really bland. It’s sort of what I would expect of that new Carving Board lunch meat variety. The veggies were really good. And we both got an order of mashed potatoes that were good, but had a bit too much gravy. I would be down to go back, but I’ll pass on the corned beef and cabbage.

The Carvery at Harry’s Hofbrau First time visit. Décor and ambience was just like you would expect a good Hofbrau to be. Lots of heavy wood tables and chairs. Had a guy playing music. Was a bit loud but a nice touch. Although you order at the counter, there was a man that seated you and was very quick and pleasant. Had the usual Hofbrau selections. Beef, turkey, ham. Had an open face turkey sandwich with a side of macaroni and cheese. The turkey was good. Portion size was average. Gravy was really salty. Macaroni and cheese was the worst. For the price, um, not sure if I would return. Staff was very friendly but I had higher expectations for the food. Place was busy though. Maybe others see something that I didn’t.

My hubby and I went here for lunch today after a friend suggested it. We really had no idea what we were walking into, and when we stepped in the door I immediately felt I was in one of my favorites in SF! The amazing smell, clean and comfortable surroundings, a ton of smiles from the employees made it a great experience already. We both ordered the tri-tip sandwich with BBQ sauce and a Greek salad. The cost was amazingly do-able, and the host picked up our food and sat us at a booth. Very comfortable one at that. The food was phenomenal! Absolutely the best tri-tip sand which we’ve ever had. Heck, it’s better than the prime rib sandwiches we’ve had elsewhere! A big help was the fact the sourdough bread was so fresh it steamed when they cut it to make the sand which. The Greek salad was also fresh and yummy. Ice tea fresh too. The manager came over to see how the bread was since he had just taken it out of the oven. Told him it couldn’t have been better! Between him and the smiling staff — which they were sincerely smiling, not fake — the amazing food and clean restaurant, we will go as far as to put it in our budget to go there once a month at least :-)

I really like this place. I always suggest it when we are thinking about places to go for dinner, mostly because they have freaking awesome carrot cake. It’s cafeteria style which is sorta retro and I like that. They have all sorts of meat options that my husband loves and I usually go for a few of the small versions of the side salads. I really like the ambience of this place, dark wood and they have a nice bar with lots of wine and beer. Service has always been great and I feel that the price meets the quality of food. It’s not overly expensive and they give you large portions. They also have beaver mustard which is my fave! It’s a unique place and something different, but still has good ol comfort food.

Yay! I’m kinda surprisingly a fan! My boyfriend absolutely loves this place and I can now see why. For some reason, the whole turkey leg, mashed potato and gravy way about this place, never really appealed to me, which is why I was never eager to check it out. Well, after discovering they have quite a few other tempting items as well as healthier options to choose from as well as a full bar, you can say it slightly turned me on :) The place is extremely spacious and though it has a cafeteria way of ordering, its has an extremely nice, sit down dining area, with plenty of seating as well as nice secluded booths. My first visit, I decided to get the Santa Fe Chicken salad which comes in a tortilla bowl however, I asked to just get it in a regular bowl. It also comes with black beans, an amazing pineapple and tomato sort of pico di cayo, which turned out fantastic! Chicken of course, and a fantastic south western vinaigrette dressing with a mild spicy kick, all drizzled over with a creamy version of the south western vinaigrette. My hun ordered turkey, gravy and some other side that came with his dish(Any main dish besides a salad, comes with your choice of 3 different sides) My hun also asked the extremely nice man behind the counter about the ribs they had that night, which he gladly let him try at no cost and it was a huge honken piece. We also ordered a slice of the red velvet cake to have for later(they have a really nice selection of pies and dessert treats to choose from) I also ordered a nice glass of Thomas Coyne Merlot up at the bar. This particular Friday night they had live music per-say, they had an extremely talented man singing and playing guitar, he almost reminded me of a slightly younger version of the late Elvis and I found him extremely entertaining and talented– certainly a highlight of the night! Our food was brought to us shortly after ordering. My salad as well as my huns dish, was damn generous in size! Yet appeared fantastically delicious looking, especially mine :) and delicious it was! My hun as usual loved his. Everything also was pretty reasonably priced considering the amount you get. Oh, and the Red Velvet cake was fantastic!!! On my second visit, I picked something up to go. I ordered the Parmesan crusted salmon which comes with your choice of 3 sides. I chose a little of creamed spinage, a spanish meat ball soup and a broccoli salad side. The parmesan crusted salmon was ok, certainly not as good as it looked though, still satisfying. The creamed spinage was delish but the spanish meatball soup was just ok as well. I definitely was not impressed as much with the food the second time, though I am still a fan :) Decent hearty food, not 5 quite star worthy though good, but it supplies a great atmosphere, friendly service and pretty reasonable prices especially considering the generous portions.

Simply live this place. Obviously this is straight comfort food. The service is awesome. Everyone is extremely friendly and always happy it seems. Love coming here when I absolutely am craving an awesome turkey dinner. Always kept clean and very attentive to the dining room. Always keep you soda/water filled and make sure you have everything you need. We keep returning here. I hope they never leave there current location. Since its only about a 5 minute walk from home. Great work guys. KEEPITUP.

Fun place to go before or after going to the movies(across the street). I love their open face turkey sandwich — its just that type of comfy food I like from time to time. I also like it that this Harry’s Hofbrau has a few nice salads to order. They are yummy and enjoyable. Its nice to have a reasonably priced restaurant(you stand in line and pick up your food cafeteria style) to go to. Its also nice that you can order pitchers or glasses of beer and also can order wine when you want to. Prices are reasonable here. Staff is generally friendly and helpful. Its fun any time of year. At Christmas they do a nice job of decorating for the holidays; as such, a fun place to go to be in the holiday spirt.

So I have to come back and say a little more. I gave Harry’s another chance and I have to say I am happy and come here regularly. The salads here are so fresh and generous. I’m not even going to mention how friendly and attentive the staff is but then again I guess I just did. If you like more artisan style with cheese, walnuts, and spring greens then try the Waldorf. Strawberries and Apples. Top it with the grilled chicken. Healthy AND Delicious. Next is the Sante Fe. Tortilla, Beans, Jicama… at a Hofbrau. We’ve even tried the Turkey Sandwich with stuffing, gravy, and mashed potatoes. Wow… the gravy is like what grandma would make for Thanksgiving. Remember to get the Turkey gravy though. The bar mixes up some nice cocktails and even carries the 2008 Mcgrail Cabernet. yeah for $ 45 you can get a bottle here… and you can’t get it at the winery. I know it’s an oxymoron but if you want healthy head to the Hofbrau today!

I was rolling to J&R Sports and spotted Harrys Hofbrau. I made a plan to go eat at Harrys after I picked up my tool of the trade at J&R. So I rolled to Harrys in my Weekend Whip. I stashed my Whip in Harrys parking lot. When I checked in to Harrys on Unilocal I noticed my Unilocal Pal Sandy Ann is the Duchess of Harrys. Coolness. I rolled in and ordered the Tillapia and Wild Rice. It comes with a Wheat Roll and a Salad of choice. I picked the Summer Salad and a Coke for the Beverage. I paid by Discover Card. A Waiter then grabbed my food and carried it to a table for me. The Tillapia was pretty tasty. Summer salad was good. But I was still Hungry . So I rolled back up to the Steam Table. I ordered a Roast Turkey Leg and Stuffing. It came with a Wheat Roll and Macaroni Salad. The Roast Turkey was Tender and Savory I could only eat half. I packed the rest in a Doggy Bag. I was Chilling out when my Unilocal Pal Sandy Ann came by and said hi. She was grabbing a bite to eat in her Kingdom. The Busboys there are Awesome. They Refill Drinks and Bus Tables lighting fast. In the Past there use to be a lot of Hofbrau around they seem to be a dieing bred. I’m glad Harrys is still in the Hofbrau game they do it well. I still love Comfort Food. I rolled out and said Goodbye to Sandy Ann and her posse. And jetted out in my Whip.

On my way to race go-karts at Umigo decided to eat lunch at Harry’s Hobrau in Livermore. Place was pretty crowded so our hopes were high. Menu had a good selection of sandwiches and meat dinners(ham, turkey, roast beef). We ordered one open faced turkey sandwich, one open faced roast beef sandwich and one hot pastrami. The open faced came with mashed potatoes and bread. No veggies or any sides. Service was very friendly and attentive. They cut the meat right in front of you(like a carvery should), so its fresh off the bone. My sandwich was warm, not hot. Tasted OK. Priced a little high I thought, but I’m cheap. Overall, not bad, would go again, but wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here.

Every time I eat here, the first thing that ALWAYS pops into my head is my high school science teacher’s cheesy«Aufbau Hofbrau» teaching method when she was trying to teach us the Aufbau principle. I say«trying,» because I don’t remember what the principle was — only that we called it the Aufbau Hofbrau. Enough about that. The second thing that pops into my head is their delicious food via my food insertion orifice. And my, oh my is it scrump-diddly-umptious. My doctor will probably hate the fact that I’ve turned the Carvery at Harry’s Hofbrau into a regular lunch spot, since my cholesterol level is likely to shoot right through the roof, but man it’s so worth it. Harry’s is known for its carved turkey sandwiches, but of the three times I’ve visited, I’ve only had the turkey once. It was good, but not as good as my guilty pleasure — the roasted pastrami melt sandwich with a side of au jus(gesundheit). Sweet gibbly giblets, I devour the whole thing and then hate myself afterwards. They also have a rotating list of soups, and for the past couple of weeks it’s been a poblano chile chowder that took my socks and knocked them right off. Mmmm… the macaroni and cheeeeeeeese. It’s so cheesy. And macaroni-ey. Okay, the pro-tips: 1) You can order au jus(God bless you) with any sandwich. So do it. If you don’t, I’ll disown you as a daughter or son of mine. b) Get the soup. Seriously, order some of their mother-effing soup, you lecherous beast. iii) ?? IV) Profit.
