Service and food weren’t bad, but the interior is cheap (complete with taqueria-​style bench seats) and there are just better options for Sushi in Livermore.

This has been my family’s go to spot in Livermore since they’ve opened. The sushi is delicious and the customer service is unlike anywhere I’ve been! Sammy and rose have become more like friends and every time we come in they remember us and our order even after living in southern California the last 4 years! Now that I’m home I will definitely be coming back and hopefully getting my name up on the wall!

To be rated as well as it is, how does a sushi restaurant run out of rice? Do you not know how to plan ahead to serve your potential customers? What a joke! Too bad Unilocal doesn’t allow me to rate places ⁰⁄₅ stars, because you don’t even deserve the 1 star…

Great Mom & Pop shop! Sammy is a very creative Sushi chef and his wife Rose is lovely. Great lunch and dinner specials. The Mexican Showdown roll, the Rodeo roll and the Lettuce Wrap are not to be missed. Very friendly and accomodating.

Sammy makes decent sushi. The selection could be better for a Friday, but the service is amazing.

Fresh Sushi! I enjoyed the nigiri order of 9 rolls of chef choice nigiri. Sammy made it himself and his wife served me. The order came with a salad and miso soup. It was VERY reasonably priced. I enjoyed the food, felt like I ate a fresh healthy meal, and left happy. I appreciated the recommended order to eat the sushi as well, probably not Jiro dreams of Sushi but Very Good. I’d be a regular if I lived here.

My husband and I have been coming here for years. Our best friends used to live in Livermore so they told us about it, and we were amazed! Let me preface this by saying we live about 2 miles from Japantown in San Jose and 2 miles from Blowfish on Santana Row. Nothing and I mean nothing compares to Sammy’s. Sammy and Rose are the best! He picks out fish by hand and the rolls are divine… melt in you’re mouth… never tasted so good! We love the avocado monster, mexican showdown, and lion king. Also in love with the salmon shooters, sashimi, and poki salad! We’ve brought all kinds of friends and family here from as far away as Texas. We’ve brought people here that don’t care for sushi… by the time they leave, they are loving Sammy’s rolls. Also make sure to try the unfiltered saki in a box… Rose will make sure it overflows, to give you good fortune. Love you Sammy and Rose, you make the best sushi on the planet!

Tastes pretty good. Pricy. Lunch combos are kind of small. Not very filling.

Good service but with a limited menu. I wanted to do a sushi platter for two but they did not offer it. Pricing was average. Overall good place. I would come back. We had a lion king, scallop hand roll and Mexican showdown. All rolls were good.
Ps it was a hot and they obviously don’t run the AC!

Love this place! Can always count on getting fresh fish here. Lion King roll is my personal favorite. Every roll I every had here has been delicious.

We have been to Sammy’s a few times and Love it! The fish always seems to be great quality and the food always gets out rather quickly. It’s a rather small restaurant and not too expensive wen compared to other sushi places in Livermore. The serving size isn’t very much, usually 6 pieces to a roll, and 3 units of nigiri. They also have great Miso soup.
Over all it is a good inexpensive sushi bar with quality food, I would definitely suggest trying it.

Wow! I thought I’d give Sammy a chance to earn back his fourth star, but after waiting until 5:20 pm on Saturday for them to open (sign says they open at 5pm), no one showed up… Is Sammy’s out of business? I think I’m done

My family and I have been going to Sammy’s for YEARS. Our family fully supports this family owned-​and-​run restaurant. We have received excellent service, and I highly recommend anyone in the area to give this place a shot if you haven’t. I think it’s great that Livermore can dine on delicious sushi, and it’s affordable and tasty!
I do not live in Livermore anymore, and am in SF, 5 minutes from Japan-​town, and always enjoy when visiting and getting the chance to go to Sammy’s!
My favorite:
–Caterpillar roll
–salmon sashimi
My dad ALWAYS gets the Lion King, so that is another recommendation!

I love Sammy Sushi. It’s small, and in a bad location, but the sushi is wonderful. They know me by name, and when I come in they immediately serve me my favorite drink up front– green tea.
My favorite roll is the 123 roll. From time to time he has special fish– one time he had sea urchin that he prepared in front of me from the spiny urchin itself. I recommend this place to all of my friends.

It had been awhile since we were able to come in for our favorite sushi fix. I have to update with a new, unique fish that Sammy was serving tonight.
Katsuo no Tataki — A tuna (This melt-​in-​your-​mouth delicacy is one of Japan’s best kept culinary secrets served most famously in Kochi). The color is deep red with the grilled skin locking the flavor in. It is a bit smoky and very tender.

I think I waited too long to update my previous review since Sammy is now open on weekends again.
I love going to Sammy’s because I feel like family here. Always greeted by name and family members always inquired about.
Sammy always has a new roll to try and we have never been disappointed. Sammy and Rose are always very friendly and I like it when their children are working.
Favorites include the BEST Lion King ever, Snowy Mountain Crab Roll, Mexican Showdown, the new Alpha Roll, Oyster Shooters, and Unagi Nigiri.
I am disappointed in the previous review that said the quality has gone down over the last couple of years and must beg to differ. I urge you to give Sammy a chance and I think you’ll find a great local Sushi spot.

WOW!!! I have been a customer of Sammy’s since he opened the restaurant 10 years ago. We are such regular customers that he knows my daughter and I by name. Even thought the quality of food has declined over the last couple of years my family continued to dine here because we were so comfortable with both Sammy and Rose. We went in last week and ordered our usual California rolls, tempura roll and lettuce wrap. When we got the California rolls we noticed they tasted funny, so we mentioned it to Rose who went and told Sammy. This is when all hell broke loose.
Sammy came over to our table TOOK A PIECE OF CALIFORNIA ROLL OFF MY PLATE put it in his mouth and started asking me while yelling what was wrong with it. I explained that it didn’t taste right. That wasn’t good enough for him so I asked for my bill but he just kept yelling at me, MY 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER and my 4 MONTH OLD BABY (who was sleeping, but obviously awake at this point) Telling me I have insulted him and I am no longer welcome there. SHAME ON ME AND SHAME ON MY FAMILY as he followed us out to our car because I refused to sign the credit card slip after he scared both of my daughters. I have recommended this place to so many people over the years. I cannot believe this happened in this restaurant. I am absolutely shocked that he would treat us this way.

Why aren’t more people enjoying Sammy Sushi? Crazy good fresh fish (always) and awesome family service, mixed with a cozy sushi bar and seating make this my favorite sushi place in the valley.
The special rolls are worth your time!
