Was in the Livermore area so I looked up sushi places on Unilocal and this place looked good based on the reviews and the photos. I was a little disappointed in the presentation and the service(the sushi chef sat on the phone forever) but the sushi was good. We had the Megaton Roll(which was ok) Bananja Roll(which was really really good) a Spicy Tuna hand roll and an unagi hand roll(I loved the tuna one and my Mom loved her Unagi). I would probably come back if I was in the area to try more rolls off of the menu!

Great stop on the way through town to avoid traffic. Fresh though basic with rolls.

Delicious! Sushi-Ya made my husband like sushi… something he never liked before! We’ve been here roughly 5 times or so since we first came here around November ’11 and have never had a bad food experience. I’m no sushi expert my any means, so all I really care about is if it tastes good! The soup & salad are a great and affordable start to our meals! I have to take off a star for a strange reason — the music they play. Now you’re probably thinking, wow she is really nit-picking. But before you say that, listen to an instrumental song, roughly 4 minutes long, on repeat in a quiet place for 45 minutes. Do it now. Am I still being nit-picky?

We came here for a late lunch at 1:30. They have a decent bento box selection. You can get up to 3 items for about $ 12. Each bento box comes with a gyoza, edamame, rice, a piece of broccoli, miso soup, and salad in addition to the items you choose. You can order various cuts of sashimi for an extra $ 1. I actually went with the sushi lunch instead. It came with 6 pieces of California roll and 5 sashimi. There was tuna, salmon, yellow tail, another fish I wasn’t sure of, and cooked shrimp. Some of the cuts of fish were not so fresh, smelling a bit fishy. Also, some of them were a bit chewy as well, leading me to think that they were not the best cuts of fish. At $ 10, it wasn’t cheap, with each piece costing about $ 1. It also came with miso soup and salad. It wasn’t the best sushi lunch I’ve ever had, but I did enjoy how strong the wasabi was.

Parking Gods granted me a spot in front of Sushi-ya so I took it as a sign to have lunch here. End of the lunch rush so it wasn’t fairly busy and I was seated right away. There are about 12 tables and a sushi bar. I ordered the Tempura Udon because its like having yummy filling soup adn a appetizer of tempura since they place it on the side. Their broth was yummy. Full flavor, no need to add anything — maybe some jalapeño’s because I like it spicy — but then it would be Phở. lol The tempura was freshly fried. I’d order that again. I also order salmon skin nigiri rolls. I love the crunchy and salitness of the salmon skin. But there wasn’t much salmon skin — it was skimpy. Too much rice. I won’t order it again… not from here. For my meal it cost me about $ 16 plus a tip. Service was good.
