Sushi Zone is in a strip mall on Easr Ave. I never would have tried this place, but thanks to Unilocal I gave it a try. It’s a small place with lots of rolls and fresh fish. Service is friendly and prompt. I had the chirashi, my standard test of a Japanese restaurant. The fish was fresh with good variety. The sushi rice was good and nicely flavored. I only wish the portion size was a bit bigger, but not a bad value at its price. The restaurant seemed to have a fair number of regulars… always a good sign. If you find yourself in this part of Livermore, give Sushi Zone a try.

First time to visit. We had a nigiri plate and a firecracker roll. The food was really top-notch and we will definitely be coming back. The fish was very fresh and delicious.

Fantastic sushi place! The rolls are bursting with fresh flavor and fresh fish, and the kitchen items are delicious as well. The staff is nice, hardworking, and you can see that they’re running around trying their best to please the customers. Would definitely recommend!

How haven’t I written a review for this awesome sushi place yet? Great neighborhood sushi restaurant. I’ve met some really great Livermore locals here and the service is always top notch. The ladies run them tables like no one’s business. The sushi quality and portions are surprisingly consistently good for Livermore suburbia and I am ALWAYS pleased with what I’ve ordered to date. My faves are the Cherry Blossom, The Sexy and if I’m feeling fatso– I go with the riceless Cukani(Cucumber, w/Unagi, real crab, avocado & fish egg inside)-It’s filling and yummy & worth the $ 12 or so:) Parking is tough during lunch rush since it’s in a strip mall lot and shares with various other businesses and a liquor store. The restroom is shared with Roundtable which is interesting but always clean. Side note: I would frequent Sushi Zone weekly but gave up alcohol for lent & I don’t know about you… But, I’ve got to have a sake/asahi/sapporo before, during and after my sushi. ;) Now that Easter has passed-Feel free to say«Hi» to me at the bar ;) I’m typically there during the latter dinner hours :)

This place has gradually gone downhill. We came to give it one more try and what a mistake. The tempura shrimps were so small you could swallow in one bite. They were also soggy instead of crispy and so were the tempura vegetables. The sashimi and nigri were of poor quality fish. The tuna had no flavor at all. The saba was super fishy. Service was bad. Waitress walked by, looked at our empty teacups and water glasses but didn’t refill them. Never going back.

This is my absolute favorite sushi place, so it has to be my first Unilocal rating. The service is always great, they’re always so happy and upbeet when I walk in. They get me seated and eating fresh complimentary edamame right away. I always go for lunch before 2:30pm, but only because the prices are cheaper. The portions have seemed to be the same size for lunch and dinner. A lunch bento box for two items is $ 10 plus tax, which is amazing for the portions you get. You also get soup and salad as well. I aalmost never finish! I usually get california rolls and teriyaki chicken, although we’ve tried a wide variety if sushi platters and they’ve all been super fresh and taste AMAZING. One complaint I would have, would be that sometimes they premake the california rolls and the avacado will oxidate and not be as fresh. Although I requested new rolls, and they were happy to replace them. 10⁄10 sushi zone you make me so happy

We decided to try out a new sushi spot and came across the sushi zone. We ordered 3 rolls, 2 hand rolls and the Ama ebi. Everything was delicious. The hot sake was a little cold and the atmosphere isn’t a 5. However, the food was delicious and the staff was wonderful. Would definitely recommend and come back.

Nice restaurant, popular with locals. Usually busy, especially on weekends. Great staff, orders taken quickly. Bento boxes have good portions. Sushi good including specialty selections. We visit at least once a week.

Came here on a Wednesday night for dinner on the way to San Francisco with a craving for Japanese food. So I found this restaurant on Unilocal and we decided to try it out. What we ordered: –Chicken Udon –O.M.G. Roll –California Roll –Mackerel Dinner –Katsu Donburi How it tasted: The rolls were super fresh and pack some major flavor. Even a simple California Roll, which some places seem to miss the mark on. I had ordered the donburi and it was delicious. The house sauce was sweet/savory and it was a very generous portion. I also tasted the mackerel dinner which tasted like it just came out of the sea, in a good way: P They served us edamame, salad/miso soup with the dinners which were actually just okay. Overall Experience: It was great, especially if you’re in the mood for Japanese food. The service was very polite and attentive; not quite sure if it would be the same if they were busy. It was also clean and nicely decorated. The TVs were a big plus for my brother and dad! They have an adjoining restroom with the restaurant next door.

I meet my wife here often, as it is close to her work. The service is fairly fast, and the employees are polite and attentive. Some good Sushi combo selections for lunch, a good spicy ramen noodle dish. Highly recommended.

This place is AMAZING! Lastnight was our first and definitely won’t be our last time there. The food there was spectacular. I mean, I know alot of Sushi places, but this Restaurant has got to be the BEST ever. Sushi rolls were on point, the BOAT(I highly recommend) display and choices was awesome. Sashimi pieces were fat and fresh! and also, service was great even when it was busy! I can’t express enough how much I love this place(I know, its weird. lol). Thanks to the Unilocalers, I was able to check this place out. Its no wonder they have great reviews. I hope you all go and check it out, you won’t regret it:)

Came here for lunch today and was wowed by the fair prices and good portions for their lunch bentos. A three item bento for $ 11.95 that comes with soup and salad is a great deal in my opinion. The interior is well lit, nicely decorated, and is very clean altogether. Servers are courteous and helpful. Recommended: –Tonkatsu: well done, crispy outside and didn’t make the inside pork too dry. –Tuna sashimi: very good quality. –salmon skin hand roll: really good overall –nabe udon: a bit too hot when it arrived, but I prefer it too hot rather than lukewarm or too cold. 4⁄5 because plates took a while to arrive, but overall not a bad sushi place in Livermore!

One of my two favorite sushi joints in the Bay Area. I drive out from Hayward specifically to eat here(and visit the nearby wineries). Try the Steven Roll on the specials menu: delicious roll with a drizzle of habanero and jalapeño oil on the side to give it an extra kick! Service is super friendly. I’d love to see them expand their hours but that’ll come with increased demand perhaps.

Was forced to seek alternative options from my current go-to sushi joint, considering lines over there could now warrant velvet rope partitions & bouncers checking ID(à la Studio 54). Vicinity search turned up Sushi Zone which not only received a stamp of approval from fellow Unilocalers, but actually had seating available on a Saturday evening? What the?! Pulled up to a strip-mall… Wait…, let me rephrase… Not JUST a Strip Mall… Pulled up to the«Chardonnay Shopping Center»(ooh, sounds fancy-schmancy don’t it?) & right up to a lot in front of SZ. Stepped through the doors & was immediately greeted by friendly staff & subsequently seated… First thing I noticed? How EXTENSIVE/colorful the sushi menu was… Not just the rolls, but a decent selection of bento options as well(that + a children’s menu!). I could’ve spent hours sifting through the rolls, but settled on a Sashimi Deluxe Dinner &4 additional rolls to split w/my bro-in-law(Albacore Lover, Rainbow Roll, SF Roll & a Salmon Skin Roll). There was a team of(2) sushi chef’s behind the bar(with a big-screen LCD, Warriors vs Knicks!) who were occasionally forced to take shots of sake offered by patrons at the bar… Very clean establishment, well-lit & the big-screens were a great touch… Servers as well were very friendly/attentive & were quick to refill drinks & assure everything was to our liking. Everyone was very pleased w/their meals(wife opted for the shrimp tempura dinner portion which was MASSIVE) & the Mother in-law opted for a chicken teriyaki bento as well which was HUGE… Kids polished off their meals as did I & my bro… Fish was very fresh(5 Stars for the Sashimi!), as were the rolls. If you like garlic btw? I’d suggest giving the Albacore Lover a shot…(tho keep your tic-tac’s handy)… All-in-All a very pleasant experience & no doubt I’ll be returning… Not only was it a win for us(First time visit & a new Sushi spot to add to my repertoire), but Warriors DESTROYED the Knicks that day, 125 – 94! Go Dubs!

I love this place! Sushi is fresh and delicious. I’ve only had takeout so I can’t wait to dine in. My new favorite is the hot night roll! Omg SO good! Has all my favorites, spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, spicy crab, jalapeños, and fish eggs! Mmmmm I also get their side salad and it is fresh and yummy! Will be back for my next date night

With all the attention shifting to that little dainty spot somewhere at Larkspur Drive, Sushi Zone still remains a rock solid spot to satisfy our sushi cravings. However, there can only be one sheriff in town so I have to give credit where it is due. That explains the realignment of stars for this establishment. Just when I thought I have tasted about 80% of their rolls, they have come up with a revamped menu with plenty more to try. New menu, new creations, new items to order, new rolls to take pictures of, and, you guessed it right, new prices(55¢ to $ 1 hike). Food has always been good and nicely plated plus the quality service from the triumvirate of Vina, Donna, and Wiwit has never been lacking. They have 100+ sushi rolls listed on their menu plus a few more specials on the board. If you’re in a bit of a rush, just give the ones listed below a try. Otherwise, enjoy the complimentart edamame as you peruse their menu. Explosion Roll(shrimp tempura and spicy tuna topped with torched albacore) — You will definitely know that somebody ordered this because there is no mistaking the wonderful smell that will fill this restaurant once they fire up the blow torch. It is served on a bigger plate with their special sauces nicely placed on the side. Enjoy the aroma then enjoy the flavor. Vegas Roll(spicy tuna and cucumber topped with albacore) — One word: ponzu sauce. Or was that two? Giant Roll(soft-shell crab, spicy tuna, crab mix, and cucumber topped with unagi and avocado) — While every sushi joints has the standard Spider Roll on their menu, Sushi Zone has a lot more rolls that feature soft-shell crab in it. Among those, this one is our favorite. Hot Night Roll(shrimp tempura and spicy crab topped with spicy tuna and jalapeño) — So far, the best roll that we’ve tried from the new menu. The thinly-sliced jalapeños on top are fantastic! Titanic Roll(shrimp tempura and cucumber topped with crab mix, tuna, salmon, and hamachi) — There seems to be nothing special if you look at the ingredients but what is unique here is that they brought the crab mix out and layered it between the rice and the fish instead of stuffing everything inside the roll. Sexy Roll(deep-fried hamachi and avocado topped with unagi and ikura) — If you like the sensation brought by exploding tobiko inside your mouth, then the ikura(salmon roe) will give you an even bigger joy. Size matters, eh? Go-Go Roll(shrimp tempura and spicy tuna topped with spicy imitation crab) — Simply put, this one tasted as good as it looked. Raiders Roll(soft-shell crab and cucumber topped with tuna, salmon, hamachi, unagi, and avocado) — Another one of their soft-shell crab concoctions. This is like taking the Rainbow Roll a few notches up. Fire Ball(deep-fried breaded spicy tuna, spicy crab, and jalapeño) — This will remind you of the old school Batman starring Adam West. Sliced into four parts, it sits atop their spicy mayo and hot sauces which resemble the border of the TV series’ signature«Kapow!» graphic. Isn’t that right, Allen C.?! If you’re not into sushi nor sashimi, their lunch /dinner entrées and bento boxes are very decent and there are a lot of teriyaki and katsu dishes to choose from. Udon and soba are also on the menu and, of course, there are ebi and veggie tempura as well. Overall, I’m still a fan. If you’re in Downtown Livermore, it’s very easy to find — head east on East Avenue and take that extra mile…

I’m trying to go to all the sushi restaurants in my area because I pretty much live at Roppongi, and while the food there is delicious, I would like to branch out. Sushi Zone is very close, although the low-rent pizzeria name and dowdy façade made me wonder about its potential sketch factor. The food… is actually quite good! It’s pricier than what I’m used to and they don’t have a happy hour, but that’s almost worth it because of their HUGE selection. Pages and pages of rolls with full-color illustrations. OMG. It took me twenty minutes to decide what I wanted because everything looked SOGOOD. I ended up ordering a spider roll(soft shell crab, masago, what tasted like unagi sauce) and one of the flower rolls. I can’t remember what it was called. It wasn’t the orange blossom(although I’m trying that next time) — it was hamachi, tuna, salmon arranged in a flower shape and piled high with dyed red daikon in the center.(It looked like it was supposed to come with daikon SPROUTS too, at least it did in the picture, but I didn’t get any. Dammit.) If you’re going to get a spider roll, I think the ones at Roppongi are better. This one tasted funny and was so drenched in sauce I couldn’t really savor the meat. However, the other roll was amazing. It’s been a while since I’ve tasted salmon that was SOFRESH. It all but melted in my mouth. I’m adding an extra point too because one of the waiters — who wasn’t even our waiter — was so helpful. He was this young Asian guy in his mid-twenties, maybe a little pudgy, who was SONICE and SOHELPFUL, he would probably get five stars for his service because he seemed to know the menu inside and out, and made me want to eat everything on the menu twice over. I just wish they had happy hour.
