Since the closing of Irvine Hokkaido, this is the closest location. I tried this location while I were driving home. $ 11.99 for weekday lunch, not bad for the price. There were Chinese buffet, teppan, a little bit sushi and some cake. I had tried the seafood soup which was like a immitation shark fin soup. The mug bean noodle would be the shark fin. It was quite interesting. While I visit the sushi station there were no salmon and tuna sushi. It only came out while I was almost done. I would eat more of that if they were not out in my first visit. The steak in the teppan station was good. I may eat at least two of those next time while I were there. There were also steam egg and snow fugus in sweet soup. I thought the steam egg was sweet like flan but actually it was seasoned with salt not sugar. It was still good just surprise me. The egg custard and sui mai were just so so.

Had lunch here last Sunday, the smell when you open the door should have been an indication that it was going to be gross… and yes, it was AWFUL, my son had the chow mein and refused to eat anything else, reminded me of a Vegas Strip Horror Buffet! We left pretty quick, i wish i could have got my $ back but i knew that would probably not happen. Live & Learn!

I come to this location quite often for their crab legs and other items. We always get a both. The service and quality is gone bad. This was yesterday at 7 pm on a Sunday when dinner is still in the early stage. It is not like arriving at 9 pm where it is late and I would understand the situation. 1. Hostess — you need the best hostess which are polite and have a nice smile. Well, we had lizette who talked like a dude and walked as well as a dude. Scary. We asked for a booth, she offered us the side entrance where everyone coming in would be in your way. We told her we can take the back where people were still sitting. Her reply was we closed that section because we are closed. If you had an event I would understand. But to close it off at 7 when you close at 9 is mediocre. That is one way to tell your customers we are closed for business and don’t want your money. So she gave us a booth with in a few minutes. Even though we got the booth the ground was dirty underneath and the hostess saw that I realized it and still didn’t do anything. So you prefer customers eat in a dirty place and pay your full attention to preclosing. Wrong format for being a successful business. 2. Salt and pepper: none of the tables have them so you have to wait for a waiter to pass by and ask. So I did. Every time it bothered me, but yesterday was worst. Trying to get pepper our was impossible. Screwing the cap off you can see all the dirt build up. The bottle of pepper was gray color which means they are mixing old pepper with new and not even rinsing the shaker at all. Disgusting. 3. Crab legs — they are always on the low side. You know you are a buffet and it is a weekend, so stock up. The lady gave me frozen crabs. 4. Crawfish — they claim they are out because it is not the season. Do not lie to customers. I can take you to other buffets in the area that have them. Seriously, that was the end to that place. Mediocre service and food quality.

Can’t believe I’ve never reviewed this place. I come here only when it is $ 12 for weekday lunch(no crab). I cannot stand fighting with the people who grab all the crab out of the tray and there is none left, nor do I care for crawfish. So regular lunch is fine, decent sushi variety including the inari, and even salmon and tuna nigiri. The quality isn’t 5 star, but neither is the price, and the turnover is good. I usually add on some tempura veg and spicy salt shrimp, tofu miso soup, edamame, seaweed salad and maybe some stirfry green bean or bok choy. There are some okay dessert dimsum choices, usually good strawberries, banana pudding, and a «chocolate» fountain. Most items they keep topped up, although keep an eye on the tempura because that one seems to not get replenished. Funny that both my GP and my dentist(both Chinese) love this place!

The food here is very good compare to other all you can eat places! The crab legs keep coming out faster than other restaurants! Price is ok not too expensive.

It’s expensive but it’s much better than other buffets. There’s lots of parking but location is in an awkward place because it’s next to the freeway entrance. Lots of variety of food, there is a teppan table where you can customize your own food. Just give the chef a tip, there is regular Chinese buffet food like orange chicken, ham, roast beef etc. there are a lot of sushi, and salads. They have a dessert station. Service is decent you pay after you’ve eaten unlike other buffets. It’s also cheaper to go during the week than weekends.

Ok so this place is your average seafood buffet. Nothing out of the ordinary going on here. However they do have a Mongolian bbq station which is pretty cool. Wait times can be kinda long & service is kinda bad. Waitress never came around to refill our drinks. Had to go to the front desk & ask for a refill. Again place is ehh. Could use some renovation & better customer service.

The worst place to eat in all of Los Angeles. This place did have me laughing my ass off literately. I could not believe how shitty the service was. The hostess was super rude. That C word threw the menu at me after we sat down at our table. lol. Wtf

I certainly here almost once a month. Food is 4 star. Sushi and food choices 4 star too. If it is too busy service is 2 star, if it is not then up to 4 star. There is no consistency. Desserts 1 star except chocolate fountain. Don’t go there too late especially close to closing time. All workers starts to cleaning around you with bleacg. Smell is unbearable. When you warn them they don’t care. Overall performance 3 star.

If I was reviewing customer service alone, I would give this place 4 – 5 stars. My partner and I ate here during every restaurants lull 2−3pm. We were promptly greeted with smiling faces, seated and drink orders were taken all within just a few minutes. Refills were given often and plates were cleared quickly. However the food just isn’t worth it. The only thing this place has going for it is the mongolian-bbqesque station. Most of the food tastes like it is old or of poor quality. Some of the sushi was fishy, the sticky rice was dried out. The chocolate fountain tastes like«chocolate flavored sauce». This place needs to step it up. It may be a buffet but I’d probably eat at home town buffet before returning to this place.

Our group of 5 thought this place was 3 to 4 stars. I don’t frequent buffets anymore. This buffet is good for the quantity and price, but it lacks in quality for much of the food that I tried. For Japanese buffets, I think Todai and Makino are better in quality but they are more expensive. PROs: Plenty parking, but we went early around 5:30p for dinner Saturday. I think the lot was fuller when we left. Got seated immediately. –Crab legs– Pretty good, though slightly soft and mushy so I don’t think it’s the freshest it can be. But hey, I had 5 – 6 crab legs. –Shu Mai– Different from what you’d get at dim sum, but still pretty good. –Chocolate Fondu –Some of the sashimi seemed pretty fresh, but half of them were spicy which I don’t like to eat. CONS: Food quality was fair. I think because they have American, Japanese, Chinese, it’s hard for them to specialize in any particular food type.

I used to love this buffet cause I love eating seafood but this place really made me angry and hate it even more! I brought 2 of my co-workers, whom were black and they recieved nothing but subtle RACISM from all the workers! My co-workers are very kind and work in the engineering field. They would assume that they would steal by keeping a very closeful eye on them and what’s worst, they made them get their own forks and spoon while right in front of us, they pulled out a spoon and fork from behind their back and give it to another customer!!! So rude!!! They talked kind to me but gave attitude to my co-workers! They kept giving them evil glares when they would talk to them or not! I’m so disappointed at them and felt really bad and embarassed for my co-workers because I had brought them here. NEVEREVERCOMINGHEREAGAIN!!!

Quick tips! 1. The buffet has a pretty decent sized parking lot 2. This place is rather busy, so arrive early if you have a large party. They do have a lot of space though! 3. There is a wonderful teppan station where you can pick up steak! Not sure if this is weekend only. This place is more of a solid 3 stars that is leaning towards a 3.5 stars. I love buffets because of variety and because I feel like it allows you more freedom in trying lots of different types of food. Hokkaido is mainly a mix between south-east Asian offerings including an emphasis on Japanese food as well as a mixture of Chinese style buffets. For those who aren’t in the know, a chinese style buffet is one which mixes Western food with some«ameri-chinese» offerings including things like walnut mayo shrimp and orange chicken. Anyways, here is a short description of the stations at the buffet. They have a teppan/Mongolian BBQ area where you can choose a variety of proteins including steak and add veggies and noodles. Moving over you have a carving station where they at times will have prime rib, baby back ribs, and roast ham. Next you have various chinese style offerings, including dim sum to orange chicken to fried rice and noodles. After that you have your area that includes a lot of sushi and sashimi. Immediately opposite to that side is the dessert area, which includes various fruit as well as a chocolate fountain. Also in that area are the cold style dishes as well as seafood on ice, which includes things like oysters, crab, and cocktail shrimp. The food here is pretty good quality for a Chinese style/Japanese influenced buffet. There are many different types of choices. Nothing really stood out for me in taste, but you could tell that things like the walnut shrimp were pretty legit and tasty. The fruit seemed really fresh too. The only thing that probably made me a little bit put off about the regular food was that they really emphasize their tilapia sashimi. Tilapia is kind of a cheap fish that is itself pretty gamey, they cover this up by putting it out with sauce all over it. As for the dessert, I would personally stay away from chocolate fountains, this after setting one up myself and discovering how much oil actually goes into making the fountains run silky smooth. The service is nothing to write home about, but it was adequate. Anyways, this place is worth a try, but arrive early and expect delays if you get here late!

One of the better buffets around here! I’m usually not a big fan of buffets but we came here for a friend’s graduation and I was impressed with the wide variety of food selection and the affordable price. Surprisingly, the crawfish here isn’t so bad. Normally, crawfish served at buffets are gross. Their crab legs is also a popular choice. The teppan grill where you can create your own dish is excellent. The choices range from seafood to American to Asian, etc. Their desserts area is cool as well with the chocolate fondue fountain. I would recommend this place.

Surprise Surprise guess where the Rivas family is again? You guessed it right, another Buffet. My parents are pretty ghetto and live in a world where only buffets exist. Unfortunately for me, Hokkaido is their favorite buffet. Unless it’s in Vegas, I hate doing buffets because like the chunky monkey that I am, I have zero self control, no such discipline at buffets. Yes, I’m that person who keeps overeating and returns to the buffet line over and over again just because it’s an all you can eat. Food coma and always having to unzip their jeans, yes that be me without any shame. Hokkaido is an American/Japanese/Chinese buffet that serves over 100 items and includes some of the following: — Baked salmon — BBQ Chicken — Baked Shrimp — Baked cheese on mussel — Roast — Spareribs — Crab Legs — Spicy Calamari — Fried sole — Crawfish — Roast — Breaded shrimp — Manilla clams — Orange chicken — Salt and pepper shrimp — Chicken broccoli — Coconut shrimp — Seafood delight — Pork chops — Lo Mein — Fried rice In addition, a salad bar, dessert bar, fondue station and sushi bar. A teppanyaki bar with a variety of items including chicken, fish, shrimp, noodles and vegetables. If you like greasy, fatty and tasteless food, Hokkaido is for you. Everything is forgettable and I’ve yet to eat anything that was worth bragging about it. The sushi itself is one step above store bought sushi, the seafood quality is poor and as for the meats, well it’s as if Chicken Little and Bessie the cow died years ago but barely being cooked now. For the sake of not letting money go to waste, I’ll still stuff my face. It’s $ 11.99 for lunch and $ 18.99 for dinner, the average price for traditional Asian buffets. The service isn’t always consistent. Some visits service has been great while other times servers like to do the Houdini act, they disappear to later reappear. Overall experience, Hokkaido is all about quantity over quality. For under $ 20 with a 2 hour time limit, you can get a lot of bang for your buck. The food itself is less than average and only decent when someone else is paying. Three stars

I avoid buffets since I’m not sure how long food has been sitting there collecting bacteria and the food quality is average at best. Against my better judgement, I came here because of the Asian theme. They did serve sushi and Asian food. As I mentioned they were mostly average or less in quality. They did have crab legs, which is a plus for buffets. Overall, not great but not bad.

I actually prefer this Long Beach location to the Burbank location(see my 3-star review of the Burbank location). The food was fresher, the service was more attentive, and the crab leg bin was filled to the brim all night. There was a greater variety of sushi at this location as well. We had a great experience overall and ate until our hearts were content. There are a lot of negative reviews for this place but that has not been my experience. When the seafood dishes are fresh and filled, for under $ 20, Hokkaido Long Beach is a great deal in my opinion. The only drawback is that they do not have hand-dipped ice cream service at this location, only soft-serve. Alas, there is no red bean ice cream. I did miss the red bean nightcap, but was so full from the ample and accessible crab legs that I did not care too much.

Hokkaido is HORRENDOUS. I moved to Long Beach less than a year ago and sadly discovered how lacking it is in the Chinese food department, so I didn’t have high expectations for this place by any means. But my goodness, my experience here was bad. I went here on a weekday late lunch one day when I got out of work early. I was curious about this place just because I’ve seen multiple locations in Southern California and this particular location has 600+ reviews. So I spontaneously stopped by on the way home and regretted every calorie of it. I tried a variety of the items — the typical Americanized dishes(orange chicken, broccoli beef, etc.), the teppanyaki, some of the sushi, and the deep fried items. My huge complaint was the temperature of the food. The hot foods were lukewarm. Gross. The sushi was lukewarm too. EVENMOREGROSS. So I pretty much risked getting food poisoning by eating here. Now let’s talk flavor. The Americanized dishes were all lacking flavor. No single dish is worth mentioning. The teppanyaki was lacking too. Of course I don’t expect a $ 12 buffet to have a whole lot of variety or quality for the teppanyaki, but there is a very limited selection of proteins and vegetables that you could choose from. How can you call it a seafood buffet and not have any seafood at the teppanyaki station? They don’t even ask you if you want soy sauce or other seasonings — they just put stuff in. Tasted a little too strong on the curry powder or something for me. The fried foods were the typical buffet fare of deep fried greasiness, which I typically enjoy, but all of this was room temp and soggy, which obviously ruins the enjoyment associated with deep fried food consumption. But the worst had to be the sushi. It has to be a crime for this place to brag that they have sushi. Not only was all of it warm, the rolls just didn’t look appealing. There was lettuce in many of the rolls for goodness sake! Wth man. I was not pleased at all. Being the broke student that I am, I have the habit of finishing all of my food regardless of how it tastes. But geez, I couldn’t manage to finish any of the items here. I mainly poked around everything. I’m surprised that they didn’t charge me for wasting food. Even though this is the first time that I walked away from a buffet still hungry, I’m just thankful that I didn’t get food poisoning.

Now I can finally say that this buffet is the worse! EVERYTHINGISSALTYAFTOO! I don’t know what happened to this place, but it was good before. It’s sad to say that their employees are not trained properly. Bad ass management. Reasons why we hate this place: –It’s a damn buffet, and they ran out of food. –When the steak was all gone, they said they wouldn’t make some more for the night. –It wasn’t as busy that day, and we barely got some aid from the servers. –Food theme: Saltiness –Basically, food went downhill. Not a lot of fruit choices and sushi were not fresh. –Crab cracker, wasn’t provided near the plates. It took us about 10 mins to get one because all these non-English speaker workers do not know what we were talking about. –Finally got our crab cracker, that was straight from the kitchen and it was not washed. Fucking disgusting! –All employees that deal with the food do not understand English. –Lastly, we were chased down by a server assuming that we did not pay. Shame on you guys!
