Service was very good but the food quality and portion sizes were average. If you’re in a rush it will get the job done but not my top choice for mexican cuisine.

I went here for the first time yesterday. I called in a club sandwich for pick up. For the money the sandwich was good and the ingredients seemed fresh. I like crinkle fries but I wished they were a bit crispier. There isn’t a whole lot for lunch in this neighborhood that I like so I will definitely go back.

Not a bad spot for a decent meal. The fried chicken & waffles is pretty good. The restaurant is always busy so you may have to wait a few minutes for a table, but it’s really quick. The selection options are really good & the staff is friendly.

There are so few non-hipster breakfast places in L.A. left where you can have a yummy meal for less than $ 10(if you don’t order extras). They serve fresh squeezed juice. And burritos. And omelettes. And huevos. And Southern food. A fun place to eat and take visitors. Great atmosphere.

Massive menu, very friendly and attentive service. We came and were amazed by the awesome huevos racheros, my wife and I split them! We also split a green juice, which was fresh, and decent. Stick to the mexican breakfast, this place is clearly mexican even though the menu is extensive beyind that cuisine.

Great spot. The food is tasty, and the staff is nice. They have a fresh juice menu, which was pretty neat for a diner. We were lucky enough to find metered parking right in front of the restaurant. It wasn’t overly crowded when we walked in. There was one booth available, and an entire section of the restaurant had been roped off as «not yet open for seating.» We had an infant with us and didn’t want to bother the other patrons, so we asked to sit in the closed section. They made us sit in the one open booth in the center of the restaurant, and 5 minutes later, they opened that other section for seating … Really?! Anyway, I had chorizo and eggs, which were pretty good. It seemed authentic, and there was a decent amount of chorizo. My carrot and orange juice was also very goo, though it had a lot of foam. Overall, I’d say this place is a good find with food at reasonable prices, but nothing spectacular.

For parking, they have a small parking lot behind their restaurant, which seemed difficult to get inside and to get out. I would suggest parking in the streets near the restaurant and going from there, I believe they have a 2 hour maximum on the streets, which should be enough time. We were definitely seated right away, which was surprising for a Saturday morning time frame, and overall, the service was fast and amazing. The waitresses and waiters were pretty attentive and the food came out pretty fast, too. For food, we had the wings and waffles & the chorizo and eggs. The wings and waffles, which would be the amount of food that you would expect, tasted pretty good, but their waffles are a little bit thinner and could be better with a different thicker batter. Their chorizo and eggs came with a tortilla, rice, and beans. It definitely tasted better than the wings and waffles. Overall, I would give this store 4 stars, but would come back again and try other food items on their menu too.

I’m usually too busy eating and forget to leave reviews but I feel I must say this place is greatly overrated.:. I had the pork breakfast with bacon eggs, sausage, pancakes, a side of potatoes and fresh squeezed oj. All items were lacking in flavor major offense– eggs so bland, pancakes bland, potatoes no flavor what so ever– didn’t even eat half! Even the oj was bla & this bla breakfast was $ 18 …might I add that my top three all time favorite breakfast spots are #1 Naka’s Broiler in Compton $ 12 (freekin awesome eggs thee best) #2 The Pan in Gardena $ 20 (best damn potatoes EVER) #3 Egg Heaven in Long Beach $ 8 #4 Coco’s in Lakewood-only am shift $ 6 (best hash browns in my life)

Went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat for breakfast on a weekday. It was pretty early so there wasn’t much of a rush and we were able to be seated right away. For my meal, I decided to go for one of the combo plates with french toast, over medium eggs, and turkey sausage. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the turkey sausage was decent. The french toast was definitely the best part of the meal as it had that classically great texture and flavor. Overall, the service here was friendly, the food came out quickly, and everything was reasonably priced. Definitely a quick, easy, and cheap option for breakfast in Midcity.

We came here for Brunch this Sunday after church. This place is spectacular. I love everything about this place — first things first, the service is phenomenal and I absolutely loved how attentive they were. The menu is very diverse… we are talking about Soul food, Mexican food, and American food all in one menu. Some people might consider that to be a bit tasteless and scattered, but it’s cool because you get to please diverse people and diverse tastes. We were greeted promptly and seated quickly — I ordered the chicken avocado sandwich since I didn’t want to overspend too much. We came in a party of 6, so I could tell the waitress was a bit flustered and she just wanted to get our food so that we can be on our way. I felt like the waitress sort of made us feel like we were being to slow to order food. I find that understandable — and I know the feeling of slow customers. Either way, we all ordered our food and it came very fast — surprisingly fast actually. And the best part was that the food was delicious — I mean nothing of ‘fine dining’ but it was decent! I definitely recommend this place if you are in the mood for comfort food or just need a quick eat.

This place is just average. I’ve been here for breakfast twice. I decided to take a break from my usual healthy breakfast and I ordered the fried chicken wings and waffle. The waffle was disappointing, very similar to an eggo waffle. The chicken wings were not seasoned and had no flavor. I only took two bites, Not worth the calories. I’m sure this place is fine as long as you don’t expect too much.

I am always happy to find a non-chain restaurant that’s open before 7am! I’ve only eaten here once, but it was nice enough for a return visit. Decent coffee and nicely priced. I’m getting a vibe that I need to try some of the Mexican house specials.

It was fine– I really wanted to give only 3.5 stars. All really because the food was boring and not special in any way. Went for brunch on a Sunday. It was crowded and the wait staff was really nice but our food took forever. I did order a burger and my boyfriend ordered an omelet so I could see how that could take 25 min. Sitting outside was okay but cars park right next to you which sort of spoils the mood. For this area– I’d say it was the best around but in general the food was mediocre.

This is a good little diner(café). I come here all the time for their Vampire Juice(fresh squeezed juices). I ordered a breakfast burrito from here and it was cool, it was to go and it was a little soggy when I got home, which is a big no no but I’ve eaten here many other times and it’s always great services and good food. Thanks.

The food is decent. I have tried a few Latin-inspired breakfasts and a few of their American breakfasts. A couple notes: The best thing I tried at CJ’s Café was the Chile Verde Pork. The meat was pretty tender and I liked the tangy tomatillo sauce. The expeditor was on top of her game, ordering cooks around in the kitchen. Impressive. The service was average. They have fresh juices, yum! Overall, an average eatery. Nothing really sticks out(other than the expeditor), and nothing really sucks.

We went here to eat some breakfast. The service was good. Nice friendly employee always asking if we doing good I’ll give it 4 stars for that But The food here is not good 2 stars. I ordered chorizo it was ehh plain and my gfs food she said ehh it wasn’t good also she ordered steaks and egg. The steak is cheap tasting low quality and BTW my spoon that I didn’t use it was DIrty like they didn’t wash it so nasty. We prolly not go back here again

20 min wait another 39 min after we were seated. Chicken wings and waffle Do Not Order! It was dry and no seasoning. Waffles came out cold and mushy. Fresh juice was ok it tasted like the one I juice at home. Chips and salsa was good but everything else not good at all. I ordered chicken enchiladas green sauce& huevos ranchero was disgusting. Save your money go somewhere else.

Good local brunch spot if you’re looking for good affordable food, without all the pizzazz. The staff was really attentive and super friendly, and service was quick. I ordered the chicken wings with scrambled eggs. He ended up ordering the Huevos Rancheros(over easy eggs on top of fried tortilla with chorizo, and served with rice, beans, and tortillas). My chicken wings were huge and plentiful. Scrambled eggs were fluffy and tasty. Looking back now, if I could change my order, I would have probably ordered the waffles instead of the eggs(as that would probably have made more sense). Nonetheless, the wings were perfectly fried, crispy and flavorful. I tried chorizo from the Huevos Rancheros and it was really amazing. The tortillas they gave us were soft and flaky. I probably could have eaten all the tortillas with the salsa just by myself. Actually, I think I might have. The salsa they gave us tasted as if it were a homemade recipe, and not straight from a bottle. Just the right amount of kick and flavor. Portion size for both dishes were huge and both dishes were very filling. I would not hesitate to come back for brunch again if ever around the area.

The worst french toast I ever ate, taste like cinnamon bread with syrup. The hash browns was crunchy on the outside, raw in the inside. Best thing I had was the coffee. I’m not coming back

Thank you for being open until 2:30 pm on thanksgiving. My first time here. The menu has three separate and distinguishable faces: Mexican, American and Soul. My daughter had eaten breakfast here before. I had the 2 eggs and 3 fried wings special which includes a side of yummy French toast. The delicious wings were huge, crispy with a coat of cornmeal batter. $ 12. She had the burger and fries. Good size for $ 6.

Used to come here quite few times back when… and stopped by to pick up my go to catfish, eggs and Mexican rice. It is still pretty good, the rice way better than one they serve at Whole Foods. I did notice the increase in price but I’d come again if I’m in the area. Thanks CJs!

Went in on a Sunday about an hour before closing and it was pretty empty. The service was very good and attentive. Took a little bit for the food to come out, but that means they’re cooking it fresh right? Well, least I HOPE that’s what that means. CJS’s is a traditional breakfast, mexican food, soul food and sandwich type of place! Pretty crazy to have all this under one roof with a 4 star review! I ordered the Chilaquiles con Huevos and it came with rice, beans and your choice of flour/corn tortillas. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting(not how my family makes them) but it was still decent and filled my chilaquiles craving! Thanks fellow Unilocalers for suggesting this! However, there was a lot of onions– I didn’t mind this, but I know a lot of people aren’t onion fans. Red Snapper with greens and candied yams– I didn’t try the red snapper, because I’m not a fish fan but I was told it tasted good. I had a craving for some yams, so I snuck a bit of my friends. Ehh, not the candied yams that you dream of. Lacks the«umph» that comes along with soul food style yams: could use more nutmeg and cinnamon! Greens were lacking the soul food flavoring as well. Horchata– there is no refills when you order agua frescas. It says it in the menu, and the waiters don’t remind you so just wanted to let you guys know! Overall, decent experience at CJ’s. Just remember to stick to the traditional breakfast foods and mexican– don’t get the soul food if you want the mouth watering Sunday family dinner flavors! They also had philly cheesesteaks and pastrami sandwiches that I bet are good too!

Can’t tell me NOTHING about the chicken & waffles at CJ’s! I don’t eat this way often but when I do and I’m out west… I DOCJ’S without regret. The service is always on point, very pleasant, prompt and hospitable. I must also compliment the coffee here. They also have a variety of delicious smoothies available for you health nuts. I came here for breakfast on a rainy Tuesday morning. The restaurant wasn’t too busy and was pretty sparse, by the time my brief breakfast was over. I was famished and I ended up ordering the Huevos Rancheros($ 8.88 + tax = $ 9.67). The food was alright, not too hot or salty. There wasn’t very much chorizo and it didn’t look or taste amazing. The dish, overall wasn’t all that flavorful, and required loads of hot sauce on my part to add some zest. I guess this may be standard with breakfast, but it’s worth mentioning. The staff was okay, not a hint or spark of enthusiasm with either person I interacted with. All in all, it was a pretty mediocre experience.

This place is pretty good. It is a Mexican brunch diner spot. We came here on a Sunday morning and it was pretty busy. We waited around 15 minutes for a table for 2. I forget what I ordered, but it is pictured below. My bf got huevos rancheros. Both are similar in that they both include rice and beans. His came with churiso and mine came with eggs(sunny side up). It was pretty good and VERY filling. The portions are huge! I was so full I couldn’t finish my food. The service was quick and we were in and out pretty quickly. They also offer American breakfast but I think they are more known for their Mexican brunch. I want to come back to try more of their brunch options. I feel like I didn’t really get a variety of food having ordered two similar dishes. A brunch for two costed around $ 23.

Great spot with a home feeling. They have fruit juices, smoothies, fruit bowls, veggie juices and whatever else you might want. I love there chicken wings. They’re big and fresh. They’re claim to fame is soul food, with Mexican food. Bathroom is a little small, but good news, they expanding. The weekends are packed. You will have to wait. You could always try to eat outside but when the line is long, no matter, you’ll be waiting. I hope they make it big enough to solve all those problems. Parking might be a problem. The area’s busy, and you might have to walk a little. Seems like the locals actually walk here, probably not true Angelino’s.

This is a very cute little, homey café that we stumbled upon one afternoon while early for an appointment. We were just looking for a place to wait and maybe a cup of coffee. Mid-afternoon and the place was empty but the employees were busily cleaning — and it shows. This place is clean as a whistle. Impressive. Even though we weren’t hungry, we perused the menu and special boards scattered throughout the restaurant. Everything looked delicious. We decided to get some chips and salsa with our coffee and both were fresh and tasty. I’m really looking forward to going back to CJ’s and having a meal. The menu combines two of my favorite types of food — Mexican and southern food. And the service couldn’t have been more efficient or friendly. This seems like a perfect place to have a casual meeting for breakfast or lunch… also a good quick place to grab a meal anytime. This has every indication of being a real«find».

I thought I was coming someplace new, but I’ve actually been here, done this, and would gladly do it again and again. Down the street from Roscoe’s, it has better chicken wings – which I complemented with grits, eggs and toast. All good. Mom had chicken sausage, eggs, and pancakes. All good. Attentive, fast service. Parking lot besides meters.
