This place is not made for large parties so don’t waste your time. Services was slow. The worker informed us that the thing they make the pupusas on is too small and can only make a few at a time. After a long wait for the food they messed up on the ordered and brought us pupusas that we didn’t even order. On the other hand the pupusas were pretty good. I’m not a huge fan of them but these changed my mind. I would definitely eat here again with a smaller group of people.

Was on a mission to find tamales and get it right this year. After driving around and doing some investigative work, I was let aware of this place. Needed not just chicken but pork tamales and they had them. Couldn’t get home fast enough with these puppies and a couple of pupusas. What way to bring in the new year! I’ll be back!

Pupusas! The revuelta pupusa was just okay and the lorroco was not too amazing. Fortuntaley, their cortido helped out a lot. Not the best cortido that I’ve had, but far from the worst either. Maybe 2.5÷5 stars realistically. Had a pastilito here as well — over cooked and not amazing as well. Maybe they just don’t well on appetizers/small plates? My entrée was a much better, the chicken guisado. It looks llke your getting more than you ask for, but really it’s just two large chicken wings covered in spices. I thought that with the pusasa’s that I ordered, that I’d easily have lunch & dinner. No matter, the flavors of the spices and chicken melded so well that I it took my mind off the pupusa let down. By far, not my favorite Salvi spot to dine at. The meals seems to better than small plates — recommend just the entrees.

Love the food, but the service is extremely slow. You’ll get mad especially if you’re starving! The pupusas are the shit though!

Great prices no luxury but the service is phenomenal. The popusas are not greasy and their platano dessert is great as well.

I’ve been coming to this place since I was little. The place hasn’t changed. There is always music coming out of the jukebox and a lively environment. My favorite dishes are their Pupusas revueltas, and Bistec encebollado. Their tamarindo is really good too. I’ve never had a problem with customer service, they are always attentive.

I have walked by this place on my way home SO many times but never stopped in. One rainy Sunday, our usual favorites were closed so we ended up here… best thing that could have happened! El Amanecer(pardon my gringaness; I thought the name meant some kind of bird because of the pictures/logo, but I was way off) is a cute, two-story, homey restaurant. We ordered wine, beer, a cheese and squash blossom pupusa, fried plantains, and a carne asada/eggs plate. Everything was outstanding! I’ve tried a lot of pupusas since moving to K-town and this was one of the best I’ve had. Prices were way more than reasonable, too. Service was friendly, and we were very, very glad we tried this place. Side note: I don’t know why, but the«Limite 3 Cervezas por Persona» sign made me giggle. When I was a kid, a roofer/plumber/I don’t remember came to our house for an estimate, and hit on my mom. All he really said was that he «was looking for a hard-working woman like her, and only drinks 3 beers a day(all in Spanish)» We made fun of her ever since and referred to him as the Tres Cervezas guy. Kids are assholes, and they never forget the things you probably want them to forget. The sign made me wonder how many drunk people it took to warrant a drink limitation sign to be printed, and it made me also think that if that guy is still single and looking, it would be the perfect place for him to take a lady on a date! That had nothing to do with my review but it’s one of the reasons why I like this place. Great restaurant.

The pupusas here are done just right, the flavor is always exquisite, if someone tries them for the first time definitely this will leave a satisfying first impression.

I have been coming here since I was a child and I love the authenticity of the place and the food. I am a frequent travelor to El Salvador and most restaurants in El Salvador Corridor(Pico and Vermont) are great but this place holds a special place in my heart. Pupusas, sopas, salpicon and camarones are all amazing and made very true to Salvadoran tradition. The service can get slow on a busy day and the language barrier though something to notice is nothing to keep one from successfully ordering. There is a review further down pointing out the neighborhood as a negative, Koreatown is very safe and if you are complaining about paying to eat just eat at home.

This is my first time eating at an El Salvadorian restaurant, and it won’t be my last. A friend that used to live in the area took me here and promised I would love it. It doesn’t look fancy, but the staff is super friendly and it’s clean. I had the sopa de res, which is a beef soup. It was very flavorful and filled with veggies and tender beef. We also had several different pupusas– which were terrific! My favorite was the one with everything(sorry, I forget the name.) A must try!

I’ve been here countless times with my family and my only complaint is that sometimes the pupusas are way too greasy. In the past they weren’t, but lately they have been too greasy to enjoy so I just order other dishes now but everything is so delicious that it doesn’t matter. Their carne asada plate is amazing, as is their tamarind drink. Ordering to-go is really easy; just call and by the time you arrive your food will be ready. I’m fluent in Spanish so that definitely helps; the place is really authentic and in my many years eating here I have never witnessed any English being spoken so if you don’t speak Spanish you should seek out help.

Other then the fact thats its a challenge to order my food, damn language barriers. No matter what I get I am completely satisfied. I have only eaten there once, I normally order my food to go. The ladies there are always nice, and thorough with my orders. The carne asada there is so bomb, like open grill type of shit. Definitely a good spot to break up the kbbq monotony and get your salvadoreño on!

Went here with my boyfriend for lunch. My school is in Koreatown, and after going to tons of Asian food restaurants, we needed a change. This place is very cute. It is small on the inside, but there is an upstairs area as well. I got a bean and cheese pupusa, that was fantastic with the spicy slaw and tomato sauce. My boyfriend got a carne asada plate. The carne was cooked perfectly– and had just the right amount of char. It tasted authentic and super delicious. I didn’t really enjoy the horchata(they were out of wine), but that is probably just because I am used to the Mexican version. We will definitely be back. This place was excellent for a little bit of lunch. Big portions, not expensive, and a good change of pace after all of the Korean BBQ.

An excellent little Salvadoran place in Koreatown! A friend and I went and shared some papusas(he got a cheese one, I got a bean one — both were delicious!) and we shared a Salvadorian beef stew dish that was really tasty. I also ordered a fruity juice drink — I don’t remember the exact fruit but it was tasty although a bit overly sweet. Our collective bill was only $ 21 so the prices are very fair and the potions are decent sized. Would def recommend without hesitating!

Terrific, two-story, down home, authentic Salvadoran restaurant just west of downtown. They make a relleno de pacalla(spelling?) which is a vegetable(I believe its from the palm tree) that most people have never seen or heard of. Lots of Salvadoran beers available. Good place to watch some soccer, drink some beer, eat great pupusas or rellenos or whatever else, and listen to the delightfully loud juke box. Not a place for food snobs.

I’ve been coming here ever since I lived in the neighborhood. If you want the best example of pupusas and Salvadoran style horchata and the rest of the dishes. This is the place to come. I have been to many other pupuserias. And they are still the best here. I have visited El Salvador and this is as close to the flavor you’ll get to being there. And they also got all the OG beers from there. Stop by and grab a couple pupusas, revueltas(chicharrón(pork) and cheese), the best ones!

My coworkers and I came here for lunch. The service was nice and friendly. It wasn’t super crowded, maybe just 3 other small groups the whole time we were there. There were a lot of tables, so great for lunch groups. We all ordered either 1 or 2 pupusas each, and some folks got the guava drink. The pupusas cost less than $ 2.50 each, and they were huge! I got full eating just one. So I paid $ 5 for a pupusa and a guava drink, which filled me up. A great lunch deal. There were 7 of us, and we paid $ 42 including tip. Seriously cheap. They also provide a big container of the Salvadoran cole slaw, which is a cabbage mix that you can put on top of the pupusas. It’s barely spicy, but very fresh and tasty. The food wasn’t mind blowing awesome, but it’s a friendly, local, cheap lunch place. I would definitely come here again.

I love this place. this is my go to place for pupusas near my job, This is 100% a Salvadoran place, from the décor to the staff to the clientele to the vendors who walk in to sell you bootleg movies and knick knacks. The food is made fresh to order so prepare to wait during the lunch hour and it can get tight in here since it’s pretty tiny even thou it’s 2 floors. It is on the big of the pricey side compared to most places to get pupusas but I don’t mind the cost since I love these pupursas.

This place is kinda scary, but the pupusas are good. I think theyre a little too expensive and FILLLLED with cheese(the boyfriend loves this, I think it makes them too greasy). The guava juice is super tasty(but make sure you call it Arayan or they wont know what youre talking about). Also, if you like Mexican horchata, this place doesnt have it. Ive found that El Salvadoran horchata is totally different and in my humble opinion, pretty nasty tasting. Stick to the juices and youll be fine. Also, the last few times weve tried to park in the lot, theres some weird valet shenanegan going on so just park on the street. UPDATE– They suddenly started employing a lame rule where you cant use your card unless you pay 15 bucks or more.
