Thanks Dine LA for a wonderful menu at 29.00 I chose to start with french onion soup. I have never had that before, so cannot compare it to to others. It was a crock of wonderful flavor. My main course was bistek with pomme. The steak was tender and flavorful. The fries were ordinary. I followed up with a chocolate mousse which was very creamy and rich. Based on the regular prices, I probably wouldn’t go back, but with the Dine LA menu prices, I definitely would. The service was extremely slooooooooowwwww. The server was excellent, it was the process of getting the food out that was slow.

Where are those dang dancing shoes? The lounge at Taix is such a needed place to just chill when you feel that the trendy and hipster places is not happening for you for the night. Low lighting helps you look better than you are– I kid. Live music, not too loud where you can actually have a decent conversation. Didnt need to use my bullhorn for the night-thank gawd. Drinks are strong, so I suggest you slow your roll or eat something from their happy hour menu. You don’t want to be the one caught wearing the lampshade. Fun time-but always fun with the right crowd and environment. Thanks Taix-been coming there for 20 years! You never diasappoint.

Love this place dearly however I will not be eating there any more because they need to offer more organic ingredients.

Imagine a bunch of grad students stressed out from a day of presentations. They decide to go out to a bar, which Taix… is NOT. It is a nice, classy ass restaurant and lounge! I have to really hand it to the wait staff, just slow clap, golf clap all the way. Huge shout-out to our waitress Ariel. We were not an easy group of 20+ people. Not only was she flawless and professional in getting food & drinks out as well as just handling all the bills, she was just the nicest! We all had a really awesome conversation with her after our meal. She seemed like such a positive and lovely person. Now, for the food. French cuisine. Yum. Some highlights from the table were the French Onion Soup and the Burgers. Yum. I can only attest to the alcohol, which was thumbs up. They have a happy hour but it ends at 6PM. Don’t you ever think that it’s a bummer that ginger beer is non-alcoholic? Well, they have Crabbies here, which is alcoholic, what whattt?! $ 5 for a pretty large bottle. Their apple cider is also $ 5 and delish. They don’t mess around with their cocktails either. Very strong. Tried some of my classmates’ Moscow Mule and Lavender Martini, both potent and delish. Definitely would visit again in a smaller or larger group. We learned that if we have a larger group, we can call ahead of time to book a larger area, so if the occasion calls for it, we’d definitely do it again.

Read all the reviews here– and you will know why the bar at Taix is a unique experience. A truly relaxing atmosphere, great food(eat here in the bar – not in the restaurant) and good drinks. The mixed drinks are best when you ask for a specific brand… but«well drinks» are not terrible. Best place for wine in L.A.

Taix is neighborhood comfort food — a real cheers bar in an increasingly digital, haughty and pretentious atmosphere. Taix begs you to put the phone away, chat with your neighbor, dip your bread in real butter and really relax as you sink deep into their leather captain chair style bar stools. The light is low, but not so low you couldn’t bring a book and read. If you wanted to be that person. And the regulars are crusty, but one friendly hello cracks that exterior and soon, from bar to booth, everyone’s cheering on the Dodgers in one voice. Comfort flows from the bartenders taps, the servers’ wine pours and the chef’s soup ladles. You come to Taix to feel at home. When my friend and I came here to celebrate Bastille day we feasted on rich pâté spread over perfectly crusty french bread. We indulged in garlicy escargot swimming in butter and melting on our tongues. We sipped on perfectly made Kir Royales and moved on to expertly paired french wines. That night we toasted Taix, our favorite forever.

I figured I’d give this place a try. after all, Echo Park Rising had a stage here so it has to be the shit, right? Well, not exactly hip inside. Feels more like a hangout for old people, not the young crowd to be honest. I can’t say I was disappointed by my experience but I wasn’t thrilled either. 3 stars bc our waiter was attentive and pleasant. The food was just ok and the bill was… expensive.

Decisions, decisions! Review Taix, or review the bar? Since most of my time spent at Taix is in their bar/lounge, I’ll review that. BUTFIRST. I don’t eat in the restaurant here very often, but every time I have I’m impressed by how truly, almost surprisingly good it is. A lifetime ago, I used to work in a French café and I know that French cuisine is hard to get right. Just because the French love their butter, carbs, and cream doesn’t mean that their dishes are necessarily heavy and without subtlety and polish. Throw into the mix that this is LA and everyone and their mother has some sort of dietary restriction or snobbery, and French country cuisine becomes an even harder sell. Still, there’s a reason why Taix has been here for so many years. My best friend’s parents have been eating at Taix since they used to be in downtown LA, and they still come here for dinner, sometimes. My favorites on their menu are the moules maison(mussels steamed with cream, leeks, and chili flakes,) trout almondine, and the lamb shank braised in wine. Everything I’ve ever ordered off the«cuisine grand-mere» menu has been fantastic. And the soup is always a great bet, in it’s classic tureen. I’ve been on dates here for dinner and I think it’s a nice setting — a classic, iconic establishment rather than someplace flashy and trendy.(Side note: if Bernard the waiter flirts with you and your date gets pissy and jealous about it, he’s probably an insecure douche who isn’t worth your time.) They pour the drinks stiff at the bar, and all the of bartenders here are super personable and witty. This is the kind of bar you can take your friend who you haven’t seen in person in 10 years and you want to have an actual conversation(though, the music can get a little loud on the weekends.) Five stars for Taix and the bar!

I don’t know what has taken me so long to stop by this neighborhood spot of mine but I’m so glad I stopped by this Saturday. Their bar had me nervous at first, as it was tough to tell what it was trying to be. A lowlight bar with soft leather chairs reeked of a parlor/smoking room atmosphere, but with modern pop music softly playing on the speakers and ESPN playing the background, it felt like a mish-mosh of too many aesthetics. Is this a sports bar? Is this a dive bar? Should I have worn a nice shirt? It was hard to tell! Nonetheless, they had big cocktails which priced at $ 10 – 11 is good for LA and they did the job. The Antarctica Sidecar and the Black Pepper Gin and Tonic were highlights. I’ll sneak back over here soon.

My boyfriend and I have been coming here for the past 4 years, and we still enjoy coming here. We usually get the fried calamari and mushroom risotto. The chocolate mousse was delicious! We also had fries on a different day, and they were very good too. For anyone who is not familiar with this place, you can take a seat anywhere in the lounge, and the waitress will provide you with a menu. Although they have valet parking, we parked in the metered parking on the streets.

I met up with a friend here, and like always there the live music was great. I ordered soup and salad, along with an order of fries. It felt like I was having a feast. The soup was enough for three servings, the salad was crunchy, and I’m not just talking about the croutons which were made there, but the lettuce that was used was fresh, and well seasoned. The fries as always were good, which is an item that I usually order. On the plus side my order came with complementary bread and butter, which was unexpected. The food was great and a notch above a lot of places that might sell similar items, but the quality just stands on its own. This place is always worth every cent that I’ve spent and the memories have been great. The service is always on point. Nice.

Saturday afternoon in the lounge for a late lunch is always a treat. The soups are made fresh ever day and oh so good… whether it’s Navy Bean or Lentil. Combine that with a wedge salad and a martini and I’m happily content.

went for happy hour, service was slow and our server had a bit too much attitude for happy hour… drinks were ok, prices eh, we had a couple dishes like frog legs and such, also eh. the most pleasant part was being surrounded by all the cute, old people who seem to be their regulars.

Some friends and I came here after dinner to just hang out some more over drinks. This place is so lovely!!! Here’s what I had: BASKETOFFRENCHFRIES — $ 6.95 If you enjoy McDonald’s French Fries then you’ll enjoy this basket of wonderfulness. It’s huge and sharable. It comes lightly seasoned and is so yummy! And so cheap for such a fancy place! HOTBUTTEREDRUM — $ 8.50 I’m so happy they have this! It’s such a great fit for the season and it was delightful! Service was great and we stayed for quite a awhile. I enjoy lounges that isn’t filled with young hipsters and is it gets loud… Nope not here! It was very chill, even for a Saturday night! The decorum was nice and have me a sense of warmth. The football game was on the huge screen and even though many people watched no one got rowdy nor loud! I’d love to come back here for dinner. It’s so beautiful and I’m a sucker for all the French theme!

Great old school bar Where you can order off of the Taix menu Kronenberg 1664 on tap Unfortunately this night gave me my fast bad meal ever from the kitchens if Taix. I started with a tuna special which was horribly dry. They then brought out the Trout almandine which is probably my favorite dish here. This night it was not good not prepared as they usually do and honestly barely edible I’ve been coming here for years and will be back hoping this is a one off bad night

2 of us went for dinner there before walking over to Echoplex for a fantastic(and free!) concert@GZA last month. Ordered for just 1 person and we split everything. Started w delishh white bean soup to start(we were given a huge vatful which was seriously enough for 3 persons, much less 1!!), then came the caesar salad, then braised rabbit for mains w spuds+mushroom. Everything was delicious and enough for 2 of us! Washed it all down w a carafe of Chilean red. Extra star is for the prompt service as well as the v. reasonable price for our entire meal!

I gotta say, when the soup du jour is Split Pea, and this girl raves about it, you know a pig has earned its very first pair of wings somewhere. On Sundays, I can enjoy a vat of split pea soup(Sunday’s soup du jour), complimentary bread and a side salad for $ 9.95. It’s like living in a medieval French land with jesters of the court(free comedy on Sundays at 10) humoring the crowd like their lives depended on it(most would be executed on the spot, sadly, but still entertaining). I’ve also indulged in steak frites, a burger, and nicoise salad on other occasions where I wanted something heartier, and while they might seem expensive for an old French restaurant lounge, they get the job done, are sizable meals, and leave me fully satisfied.

Oddly enough, great burger! We prefer eating in the bar for the atmosphere, but for a little bit more formality, the dining room is a lovely. Always fantastic service!
