We had a fun-filled evening here with Garret Morris. The place is very small and hardly anyone was here on a Saturday night, which was sad because it was such a good time. We found out about it via Gold Star. The blues band is excellent and provides a showcase with Garret Morris as the front man. The guy is 78 and can really bring it! There were 7 – 8 comedians. Some good, some a little flat, but that’s to be expected. They did a good job working the room & feeding off the audience responses. At the end of the performance, Garrett came up to me and gave me a hug, shook my husband’s hand and thanked us for being good sports. He asked us to spread the word, so here it is!

This has got to be the best kept secret… and that secret should get out quickly! This was the most amazing evening! First of all, it was up close and personal with Garrett Morris himself — an accomplished Blues singer and hilarious comedian. Even though he is a celebrity(and I’m a huge fan), he made everyone in the audience feel like an old friend. He even got my girlfriend up on stage and personally sang happy birthday to her! The Blues band led by crazy good Hammond keyboardist Deacon Jones was top notch and the other comedians killed with their sets. I can’t remember a more entertaining event. Didn’t hurt that I scored major points for giving my girlfriend this birthday gift that she will never forget! Tip: catch a great Caribbean meal before the show right outside the venue at either of the two adjoining restaurants!

Went to the Downtown Comedy Club last night. The directions to the place of the new location in Leimert Park were direct and not difficult. The club is nestled inside a walkway so keep your eyes peeled. It’s a small venue with theater style seating in chairs with a one drink minimum. The service was friendly and prompt and Garret Morris hosts the acts that come on stage. A Big Highlight for me was the Deacon Jones Blues Band, who open the show with some great Blues numbers and Garret Morris himself is an awesome singer that joins them onstage before his warm ip act. The acts weren’t bad, some better than others but well worth going again to if just for the Blues act. Check it out and tell your friends who enjoy comedy and the blues. I’m definitely heading back.

I haven’t been to this new location, which is current as of 01÷04÷14 but when I did go it was excellent. Plus, I just got of the phone with one of the owners who was very nice and helpful.
