For decades, the 50 Yard Line has been our place to go for special evenings of good food, great service, and a quiet place to enjoy a good conversation. It has also been a place where we have attended business functions with a good meal in one of their rooms. It has always been a landmark place with a touch of sophistication yet mindful of Texas Tech sports. The consistency of getting great food, equally great service, and knowing you had enjoyed a special evening out is in the past. The change in atmosphere and food was abrupt with a new manager. The last several times we have been there, we have been promptly seated in the dining area with loud music. The manager was responsive in turning it down some, but not off. We did tell him we were surprised and that it was intrusive on the atmosphere and conversation. If that was the only change, we could continue to eat there and go through the hassle of asking each time to turn the music down because of the expectation of a good meal. However, the meal we recently had there will be our last visit. The quality of the food has changed. And not for the better. The salads were huge hunks of lettuce with a piece of slimy lettuce and the white hard pieces already turning brown were included in the salad. The blue cheese dressing was no longer thick with lots of blue cheese. It was a very thin ranch with about ¼ teaspoon of blue cheese tiny crumbles. The three croutons on the salad are no longer the yummy ones made in the kitchen, but out of a bag with a high flavor of salt and garlic. Next, came our filet steak and baked potato. The steak was not the 1 to 1.25 inch high we have always been served for decades. It was ¾ in, yet cooked as we asked. It was not the special steak enjoyed for years. The loaded baked potato is no longer loaded. It had all the ingredients expected, but in very small amounts. There were only 4 pieces of bacon on my potato, 5 on my husbands with about the same amount of chives. The sour cream was so thin, it was not visible. Last, the blueberry muffins. Always, these were very small, not overly sweet, but deliciously loaded with blueberries, making the muffins a deep, dark blue. Just tiny pieces of heaven. What we were served last night had few blueberries, were a light tan muffin color with a high sugar content. They were good because they were so sweet, but they are no longer special. We are very disappointed to lose the consistency and special touches of a long standing tradition.

In all honesty I want to rate them a 2 but I usually reserve that for places with really bad service and they didn’t quite make it to that point although the service was not good. It was really quiet so I’m not sure why the service we bad but I guess good service isn’t their thing. My opinion is that the menu sucked– not much to choose from at all. I read the steaks were great so that’s really why we went but the prices were high and the steaks were not the best(personally I thought they sucked). The entire experience was just below average for me. It’s not somewhere I would ever go again.

Always good. No special dress code. Steaks are as good as any Steakhouse in the U.S. at reasonable prices. Service is good.

I went here for a recruitment dinner, so take this with a grain of salt because I’m sure the food options we had weren’t top tier. Anyways, bread in beginning was very good. I could have gotten full on just that. I had chopped sirloin with a baked potato. Sirloin was so burned and salty it was gross. It needed to be drenched in ketchup to even be ate and the potato well it was a potato.

This is an older steakhouse in Lubbock. While it could use a bit updating, we can overlook that because the service and food are both excellent. We had the 14 oz rib eye and it was prepared as ordered. A friend had the salmon and it was good as well. We were with a large group and they kept up nicely. I would go again

I was told this was the place to go for steak in Lubbock. I’ll pass next time. Salad looked and tasted like it came out of a bag, steak was not cooked as properly ordered and I should have know since they did not know what Pittsburg style, rare+ was. Moreover, not much flavor. I have had better steaks at chain steakhouses. It’s 4th and 1. Time to punt and go elsewhere.

We were passing through Lubbock from Denver and stopped in for a late dinner. We were pleasantly surprised with the marinated filet mignon, baked potatoes and salad which were delicious. The service was good and the prices were reasonable.

For the best steak in lubbock I found their fare to be over rated and over priced. It’s nice, but I’ve been to better in lubbock.

Great food and great service! They just redid the wine menu and it’s amazing! The steaks are amazing, make sure to ask for extra blueberry muffins

Stopped here for dinner tonight. Ordered a 10oz Ribeye(medium rare) with a side Caesar, loaded baked potato, and tea cup of French onion soup. This steak was fantastic! It’s got a great unique flavor(Worcestershire soy seasoning/sauce) that just melts in your mouth! The Caesar was delicious and the soup was pretty exceptional too. To top it all off, they bring out these little blueberry muffing that are a great starter to the whole experience. The bartender, Joe(I think) had great conversation and makes a great Manhattan! This place is a must visit here in Lubbock.

Though we made a reservation ahead of time, we still had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. The food was good but I feel it is overpriced. My daughter’s steak was cooked well done when she requested medium, so she had to wait. While the waitress was very nice and attentive to our table, more than once, she asked if she can clear my plate when it is pretty clear that I was still working on it. Overall experience is ok.

This is a neat place with a fancy atmosphere… almost stuffy for Lubbock standards. They have lots of Tech memorabilia on the walls like most places in town. You get a small simple French onion soup to start with along with bread and salads. The steak is the best thing on the menu… especially the ribeye.

Ok first off the name… the 50 yard line… Its not a sports bar. So our salads were good and fresh, the dressing fantastic. The first thing they bring you is a small espresso cup full of, French onion soup that is really good. No onions, no cheese, or croutons but really tasty. My sons burger was huge and he loved it. My daughter had the Monte Cristo sandwich which was fantastic. The wife and I had the ribeye and once they got the cooking right they were very good. Tasty, and tender steak. The cheesecake was colossal! We will be back I recommend this place.

The 50 Yard Line has some nice surprises, and some not so nice surprises. The décor could use some updating, but is passable. The French Onion soup is more of a consommé served in espresso cups and is complementary. Honestly, it was the best part of my meal… I still think about the soup… mmmmmm, soup… The cheese rolls were what I had heard raves about… I was disappointed. The potential is there… flaky, yeasty goodness in appearance was hard and crusty instead. Day old textured bread makes me want to cry. A lot. I ordered a grilled chicken Caesar salad. It was OK… not over dressed, pretty fresh… but the chicken was nothing special. The dressing was generic… the kind of salad we have all had anywhere and everywhere… and for the $ 15 price tag, I expect a heck of a lot from my chicken Caesar! Service was passable, but could have been better. Would I return? Yes, but just order a kid’s meal… they are $ 10 a plate. Soup… mmmmmmm.

Don’t expect a sports bar because it’s not that at all. It’s a fine dining place with a decent looking interior. Food is pretty good. The hamburgers were better than expected and the cheese rolls were good. The potato skins were generic, and the French fries were lacking. On top of all that the service was slow as molasses! I needed a refill for 20 minutes and the waiter didn’t even bad an eyelash. Finally a different waiter was told that our table needed refills. Not a do-over

Excellent steaks at our table. Though the restaurant has been updated in the last 33 years, it still has an old feel to it. A good meal though.

First off, service is not good! You are served an espresso cup with brown salt water, they call«french onion soup». This stuff is not good. Then we ordered 2 kids meals, which they don’t tell you they cost $ 10 each, which is ridiculous for 3 puny chicken strips, cold hard fries, and a bowl of gravy with a skin so thick on it you’d need a knife to break through! As for the steak, ribeye and baked potato were both over cooked and served COLD. The strip steak, over cooked as well and tasted spolied. Towards the end of the meal the server finally brought the rolls/blueberry muffins, which were no treat either. Could not find a single blueberry in the muffins and have had better from Little Debbie. To finish of the disastrous evening, I received the bill, WOW, even though they over charged me for things we didn’t order it really didn’t lessen the sting. I’d avoid this place at all costs.

This place is wonderful. The waiter was very good and attended to us the way we should be tended too. We were seated within 5 minutes and the food was enough to fill us up and then some. We ordered the dinner steak for two and was huge. Was cooked right and we were pleased with the cut. I definitely recommend to anyone

Grace was the best waitress I had in a long time! She asked if I was ok like 10 times! Awesome! The 14 oz sirloin with the loaded baked potato was so good! Key lime pie was yum! I would recommend this great local place, ask for Grace!
