Just the best steaks, properly prepared. Nice wine selection. Good whisky selection. The cheese straws are a really nice touch. Veggies are not over done. I always look for the cutting into a great medium rare steak and enjoying.

I took my husband here for his birthday and made the reservation online via Open Table. On the reservation, the firm asks if there is a specific reason you are coming in. I stated we were celebrating my husband’s birthday. When we arrived, we were greeted by 3 friendly hostesses. As we were being taken back to our table, the hostess wished my husband a happy birthday. What a nice touch! It was pretty quiet when we arrived(6:45 pm) but it got busy after 7:00 so the noise level increased as it was graduation weekend. We were also seated by the kitchen entrance and bar. I would request to be seated elsewhere next time simply due to the noise. Our server was nice. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms and lobster bisque for appetizers. The mushrooms were amazing, but the lobster bisque(at nearly $ 11/bowl) was more like tomato bisque with a kick. No lobster taste or bits in sight! We both ordered the 12 oz ribeyes with creamed corn and mashed potatoes. The sear on the steak was the best we’ve had, but the seasoning just wasn’t there. Overall, it was a nice experience. Our bill was just under $ 100. It’s not a place we’ll visit often, but if you want a change of scenery and great service, this is a place you might consider trying.

Okay for rare occasions for couples but get ready to pay for the«atmosphere». You can get the same quality steaks at Longhorn, Outback, and 50 Yard Line for less money.

It’s just ok. Does not compete with 50 Yard Line. Will not go back. Cagles is better too.

We were in town for a golf tournament and we wanted steak for dinner. Found Double Nickel on Unilocal.Atmosphere was a classic steak house. Nice Ambiance. Wine List was A++. All our favorites. I ordered the Sea Bass and my friend got the filet. We shared entrees. I am home now and dreaming about the filet. It was cooked to perfection– like butter. Wow! It was the best. We splurged for dessert and ordered bananas foster– beautiful flaming dessert. Served with ice cream. It was out of this world. Service was excellent. Our waiter was very attentive and was very informative when we asked about the history of the restaurant. Will definitely go back. Money well spent for First Class service and Food!

Best steak I’ve ever had. It’s a little fancy for my taste, Las Brisas is less stuffy and a better atmosphere in my opinion, but a Double Nickel steak is unbeatable in Lubbock.

This restaurant took over 45 minutes to serve my rare steak. While I was waiting for my dinner to be served, the bartender said he was going to give me a complimentary desert. He did NOT offer me desert(complimentary or otherwise). This all happened early in the evening, while the restaurant was not busy. Definitely would not like to be here on a busy night.

If you’re looking for a first rate, high class, unforgettable steakhouse, this is your spot! Took the girlfriend here for Valentine’s Day. We were completely blown away! The décor was perfect for a romantic dinner out. Low lighting and not that loud. Impressive wine selection, which we were grateful for. We added on salads and those were both fresh and tasted great. For dinner, She had the filet mignon, and she said it was absolutely perfectly cooked, and was absolutely delicious. I ordered the 16 oz ribeye. Heavily marbled, but it was amazing. Very tender in the non marbled parts, lots of flavor as well. Perfect seasoning. The mashed potatoes were perfect, and among the best I’ve had. The service was absolutely impeccable, and extremely professional. The price was high– our dinner came out to $ 100 before tip, but all things considered it was totally worth it. We will def be back for our next big occasion! Highly recommend.

Great food in almost every way. The steaks are really good and the atmosphere is upscale and nice. The service is very good and quite attentive. Great place to make a good impression. The only downside is the price.

I’ve been to double nickel a few times and the steaks are inconsistent. My steak last night was the 16 ounce ribeye and it was the toughest ribeye I have ever had. I would highly not recommend double nickel steakhouse for the overpriced highly mediocre and sometime terrible steaks.

It has a nice, plush, romantic interior. They also have rooms for private events. The lobster bisque is great, creamy and slightly spicy. The filet melts in your mouth, and is so tasty it doesn’t need any steak sauce. The side dishes were good. The mandarin orange cake was very refreshing. It’s a great choice when you want to celebrate.

Even though they are listed on OpenTable they refused to accept OpenTable checks, which are just like travelers’ checks. What’s up with that?

Just love this place. Excellent cuts of meat. Cooked perfectly. Can definitely hold its own if you compare it to a steak from that of the high end steak house; Del Friscos in Fort Worth. The owners also run the burger place called Spankys off university here in Lubbock.(Famous for their homemade cheese sticks). Anyway, my steak had a cheese stick on the side. The other sides were great. Great wine list. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for. Highly recommended.

Friends of mine got some Double Nickel carry-out and I got to try it without any preconceived notions because I didn’t know where the styrofoam containers came from. It was, quite simply, the most delicious thing I’ve tasted in a good while. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and I found myself enjoying things I don’t normally indulge in, like lamb chops. Even the veggies — usually eclipsed by their carnivore counterparts — were awesome. Needless to say, my friends are VERY good friends.

Double Nickel has a very great atmosphere. Low lighting, candles and romantic tables for two. It is also a great choice for groups. We rented out the private room with the agreement that we would spend a certain amount as a group. The amount was low and easily obtainable for the amount of people we had. It was a quiet room with a lovely circle table. Great for the grandparents to be able to hear. Not only is their set up great, the food and service was awesome too. Every time I order a steak it is perfect! They have great options too if you don’t eat red meat. Our sever was attentive and friendly. One of my personal favorite sides is the creamed spinach, sounds kind of weird, but it is divine. You should really try this place out, especially if you are trying to make someone feel special and celebrated.

We ate at Double Nickel last week. Let me start by saying the hostess asked my husband to remove his cap. OK. No problem. However, it’s totally unfair when you ask him and not the guys in the bar area or the guys sitting in the far room to do the same. I spotted 5 other caps in the building. If you have a sign posting the dress code, fine, but there isn’t one. With that being said, you should make everyone abide by your«policy», not single out one person. Also there were guys in shorts and t-shirts. You need to be clear about the atmosphere you are shooting for. We have dined at Las Brisas and were never treated this way. I will say that all of our food was very good. We split the Châteaubriand For Two and it was cooked perfectly. We also had the stuffed portabello and lobster bisque, which were excellent. I did feel the sides were a little bland though. It’s a shame we were treated this way, because despite the good food, we probably won’t be back.
