This is the second time that their delivery took over TWO hours and when the food DID arrive it was soggy and terrible! No refund or discount was ever offered to compensate! This is the LAST time we will ever order from here again

Food is always good. One of the best beefs around and I have always received it as ordered. Honestly like their beef better than Kelly’s. Sometimes long hold when your calling in an order but that is because it is almost always busy there. Other food that I ordered there is always good as well. Probably the best steak and Cheese in Lynn since The Earl of Sandwich closed. Never tried their seafood or pasta plates but will at some point because there isn’t a lot of seafood places besides Charlie’s that is worth trying but never heard anything bad about Johns so will try it soon. Only reason that I didn’t give them 5 stars is the prices are competitive but it’s not a bargain. Expect to pay around $ 15 for a sandwich, fry, and drink. This is about what you would pay most places.

This place is spotless and decorated nicely. The staff was very nice to us. Prices are good too. We didn’t need to wait long either. I gave them 4 stars out of 5, because the last time I got a chicken wrap, the chicken was a bit rubbery.

Ordered a chicken kabob and steak combo salad with extra tomatoes and cucumbers. There was literally 2 pieces of steak(one small and one medium that had been cut halfway through) and a bunch of chicken. How can this be a «combo» if there’s barely no combination at all… if that was the case I wouldve just ordered the chicken kabob salad. As far as asking for extra tomatoes and cucumbers, no extras added. 4 measly grape tomatoes and 5 sliced cucumbers. Way too much feta cheese and iceberg also. Delivery took forever and the delivery person just says«here» and hands you the food and walks off. This may be the last time I order from here. $ 11.00 down the drain

Over the last 20 or so years, I’ve spent enough money here to send John’s children’s children to college. They may need to transfer to community college because we just placed our last order ever with them this weekend. Declining food quality(think foreign objects of origins unknown), declining attention to «detail»(like throwing in the requested dressing with a $ 13.00 steak tip salad, or ANY dressing), and a complete off-the deep-end dive in promptness has made me decide to cut my losses. I’m a simple person when it comes to food from places like this, but a cold sub and a dressing-less iceburg lettuce core-based salad ordered over an hour ago and delivered from a few blocks away incorrectly is just disappointing. Decent sub shops are a dime a dozen in Lynn, don’t waste your sanity ordering from this place.

I love roast beef and being a denizen of the north shore it works out well for me, as we have a plethora of good beef joints all around. Lynn has over 20. Our signature roast beefs have to be rare, hot, juicy and sliced thin with the same consistency/thickness on a grilled roll. John’s has always been a stand by Beef joint, one of the oldest, like Land and Sea in Peabody or Kelly’s(albeit Kellys is a slight aberration of the real roast beef sandwich being sliced thicker and it hangs outside the bun). John’s redesign post their fire is outstanding and the menu is great. Food overall is good and of worthy quality. I rate here their roast beef only! It is not consistent, portions are less than others and they are not trimming their beef the same or are using different cuts, it is sadly substandard compared to many others places. Me eating roast beefs on a weekly basis, I like Pete’s near Wonderland in Revere. George’s on the corner of Newhall and Broad street in Lynn in pretty good, But the best, and this might surprise you Minos in Marblehead, He uses Angus beef and their junior is like a large beef anywhere else, always consistent. If you make the drive up Atlantic Ave. I would say it is worth the current best beef on the north shore.

All your staple sub shop food at below average quality and double the prices. You can do better for cheaper.

Very friendly staff on the phone and in the restaurant.. Prices are ok, on the higher side. Can’t complain on the seafood prices… Good seafood combo. Parking is difficult to find parking, street parking only and there are not alot of spots out front. Food on the johns seafood plate was good. scallops, haddock, shrimp, clamp strips… good size plate… also came with fries and onion rings.

Horrible service! If you close at 10:00 pm and you walk in at at 9:50 they should take your order right? Well NO, the lady told me. We close at 10:00 o’clock and the guys have already cleaned the grill and put everything away! I have been going to Johns for years since it’s walking distance. Used to be the best 3way Roastbeef in the north shore. Not anymore. Looks like I’m officially moving on! You just lost a long loyal customer!

First and last time order from here. Delivery took way too long, where is fries and wings I ever had. A lot more expensive than any other roast beef restaurant in Lynn for no reason.

Watch these people here. They have prices on their large wall mounted menu and then proceed to charge you more money(a few dollars more) when they take your order. I called them out on it and they mumbled to each other about prices changed and they have not changed the sign yet. And they didn’t seem to care at all either. Ridiculous. Change your menu first! I noticed this happened to another reviewer MONTHS ago. Shame on them, this seems shady. Also, I was still charged over. It was only a little, yes, but it is mostly the principle of it all. They will lose customers very fast with these underhanded shady business practices. This will cost them dearly as I will most likely not go back for a very long time. They used to be okay. I have been going here many times over the years. The need to get their act together big time and be honest as well. Also, steak tips were tough and chewy.

Great food, friendly service, always spotless. This place took a turn for the better after it caught fire a few years ago and they rebuilt. All the food is delicious and the roast beef is the real deal. Love it!

I went here after a friend said it was some of the best Roast Beef on the North Shore. I guess he never went to Riley’s Roast Beef or Kelly’s Roast Beef. I ordered the roast beef sub 3 way and got an average size sub loaded with BBQ Sauce and Mayo. The sauce was so think it poured out the bottom of the sub. Their is nothing special about this place and they use the same BBQ sauce that all roast beef joints use. I ordered a side of BBQ sauce for the fries and they charged me more for the cups of BBQ sauce than the price they have on the large menu sign above the cash register. Then I get a cup of sauce that is smaller than a BBQ sauce you get at Burger King. Next time I’m in the neighborhood I’ll just got to Burger King instead!

I just learned about this little place from a neighbor, and the food is really good! Staff are friendly and professional and the place is clean. Unfortunately, I give them only two stars because, when I was charged $ 13.30 for steak tips that were posted on the gigantic menu @ $ 11.00, I was told that the prices went up, but they hadn’t changed the menu yet. Um, ya, first of all… no! You change the posted prices and THEN charge new prices, not vice versa. Printed menus are different, «prices subject to change» pretty much covers you for increases. But gigantic wall-mounted menus are different. Secondly, THEPRICEINCREASEIS20%!!! What? That’s outrageous! No! AND, ironically, the price in the photo on the Unilocal page is $ 8 or $ 9, and the online price is different than all three noted above… which tells me this price increase BS is probably a more regular occurrence. I won’t be stoping by as often as I’d like. Rarely, actually. Thanks for pricing me out the door! You’re a pizza/sub shop, not a full service restaurant! Sheesh, when do the price increases end these days? SMH!

I ask for fries well done, I get them undercooked. Multiple times. I’m willing to wait because I’m the one who asked for well done. And why can’t the girls up front catch this quality issue? They are supposed to be the last line of defense. Some of the employees are taking their jobs seriously and some are not! I know I complained about fries but that extends to the whole operation. Let’s do something management. Reason for trying again: Roast beef is always really good.

Used to be my favorite RB shop, but now the sandwiches are dry and over cooked. Some of the salads are good(I still go for my mom occasionally) but things have gone downhill. Priced seem higher than before. I grew up in Lynn, but live out of state. There are no RB shops where I live so when I visit, I’m looking for quality. Sadly I don’t go to johns any more.

Haven’t had many issues at John’s… ordered a crab meat sandwich the other day for my girlfriend. got it home only to find it to be seafood salad. She didn’t complain but my issue is truth in advertising… had issues with pricing on occasions as well… what’s on the wall doesn’t necessarily add up… check your receipt an make sure. Other than that… great seafood and roast beef sandwiches. been going there since my days at Lynn English. Great haddock sandwich. fresh and better priced than Charlie’s Seafood on Essex St.

Good, solid sandwich shop. They do all the staples and do them VERY well. Get a large roast beef with extra sauce and you will not be disappointed. And as others have mentioned, they keep the place spotless, which is always a pleasure to see.
