Being from the South, I know good barbeque. This was my first visit to the Manassas location. We usually visit in Gainesville. I ordered the jumbo baked potato topped with shredded pork, cheese and sour cream. I ordered online which was super convenient. Once I arrived to pick up my order, the street had been blocked off due to some event downtown and parking was scarce. More so than the potato being good, their customer service was excellent. Rather than have me park far away, I called the store and someone brought my order right out to me so I didn’t have to unload my kids. As a mother of infants, that was a lifesaver!!! I wish I’d gotten the girl’s name. Thanks Bone Manassas!!!

Not bad. Had the pulled pork & brisket platters. Pork was nice and lean, Cole slaw was decent, the mac & cheese was dried out on top. The brisket was good, would’ve liked more charring on it. The variety of BBQ sauces was nice. Corn bread muffin was good in flavor, but should’ve been soft and moist instead of dry and hard.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it came with a side of coleslaw and an extra side. I ordered the onion straws with it. The pulled pork was amazing with the coleslaw. The onion straws were interesting as they were an unusual option as a side– it was good to put on top of the pull pork, but as a «side» was very strange. The price for the sandwich is $ 8.50 on the menu both in store and online, but my total was only $ 7.70. I am not sure why there was a discrepancy in price but overall, it was a really good meal.

For a them to claim this as barbecue joint is a joke. The pulled pork is mushy no smoke flavor it taste like it came from a crock pot. The brisket was tender but very fatty. Also for the portion size very expensive. They should go and eat at WILLARDS in chantilly or monks up near leesburg. They know Q. Menu is very limited. I will say the potato salad was the best thing I have had there

Solid three stars for this tucked-away BBQ place in Manassas. Hubby had the beef brisket sandwich, and I had the combo pulled pork and ribs. The pulled pork was like butta– didn’t need any BBQ sauce — and the rib meat practically fell off the bone. The brisket had a good, smoky flavor and wasn’t swimming in sauce so you could taste the meat. The BBQ sauce was ‘meh’ — we prefer it more vinegary. The cornbread was on the sweet side. They’ve got a good selection of brews, including some on tap.

Best BBQ in NOVA. Better than Dave’s(by far). Better than Willard’s(by a mile). For some reason I was never impressed with their Gainesville location(by Wegman’s) but when I stopped by the Manassas location I was blown away by the pulled pork. Really tender, juicy, delicious. Sauces are good; not great. Service is good and the prices are very fair.

This is probably some of the best BBQ that I’ve had in NoVa. Originally from the deep South, I’ve had much better BBQ, but this will do when a craving hits. Their sides are also pretty good. It is located off the beaten path in Old Town Manassas, so you get the ambience without the traffic. However, it is next to the train tracks so you may have a noisy visitor if you’re dining outside. One menu note: It was difficult to find anything diet-friendly to eat.

Get the brisket sandwich, sliced, with onion straws on the side. Put the onion straws on the sandwich and pour the dipping sauce on top. Thank me later! Took back one star because they don’t have fries. That is really the only thing missing!

This place is great! I am so happy to have a real BBQ place so close to home! the Beans are perfect as a side and the pulled pork is spot on I think it could use a bit more of the vinegar sauce but that does not take away from the fact it was cooked perfectly! The brisket I think has been consistently a bit under cooked but the technique is clearly there and the flavors are spot on I would recommend giving this place a try.

Great BBQ place that doesn’t make me feel like I’m eating something that’s going to kill me. The meat is not excessively fatty yet still flavorful. I like their assortment of sauces as each one is unique. Price is ok for the food. The portions are large. The cole slaw is light and refreshing. The pulled pork is good and the beans are truly comforting. The cornbread is worth getting over the buns. Ate in with a friend and the place is small and typically empty when I go in. The ambience is kind of homey meets industrial. The chili wasn’t memorable and was served lukewarm and I dunno about y’all but I want my food served hot. I had to ask them to heat it up twice. They were friendly about it but I’ll stick to the pulled pork.

Northern Virginia is a bbq-challenged place, and The Bone is one of the better options, but it’s far from the best. I enjoyed my meal, but I wasn’t blown away. I will say that the collards were great, and the sweet tea was perfectly«not-too-sweet.»

I enjoyed this place, really I did. it was good. Not great, but definitely good. Upon walking in, they weren’t that busy so we perused the menu a bit. We talked about ribs, until the counter girl informed us that they were out of ribs. Okay. Then I pointed at a photo of delicious looking banana pudding pie, that the counter girl informed us they didn’t have today. Okay. So, our family of 2 adults and 2 kids ordered the 3 meat platter that comes with 2 sides and a piece of cornbread, an extra cornbread basket and a stuffed sweet potato with pulled pork. The 3 Meats we chose were ¼ chicken, pulled pork and brisket. We also had ranch beans and potato salad. The stuffed potato was delicious. I would probably go with chicken next time, and share it like we did tonight, but it was very good. The ¼ chicken was so tender and downright delicious. The brisket was good, sliced evenly and tender, but cold. And the pulled pork was good, just okay and had a decent spice to it. The beans were very good, I enjoyed them. They had nice sized chunks of pork in them. And the potato salad was okay, I wouldn’t order it again. My husband had a sweet tea, which was lacking in the sweetness. He swapped it out for a soda. The cornbread was good, the entire family enjoyed that stuff. Overall, it was good. We’d return and hopefully they have the entire menu available when we do.

I was very, very close to giving this place a 4/5, until getting further into the meal, and you’ll soon why I’m giving it 3⁄5. Today is rail fest, a big day in downtown Manassas, especially with the first voyage in over 20 years of the old N&W’s Class J 611 locomotive, but okay I digress a little, it was lunch time and I was hungry and I had a sticker for this place, and I like BBQ, so I gave it a try, line was rather short but it was 11:30, not quite lunch time but knowing it soon would be. I glazed over the menu to come across they had ribs. I do like ribs. It comes with cornbread, two sides, and a drink. For the sides, I got macaroni and cheese(safe bet) and the ranch beans, plus the drink. It was expensive, but ribs are expensive. They give you a number and they then go serve it to you. Roughly 10 – 15 mins after waiting the food arrived. The rack of ribs was very plentiful, and so were the sides it came with. I had to try the ribs first. They were terrific. Unfortunately it was St. Louis rub, which is saucy compared to Memphis style and more tangier than Carolina style(I’m a Memphis style rib person). Still they were awesome and the meat fell off the bone. People looked at my dish and were jealous, that’s how you know it was good. Then, it went downhill. There’s no place to put the bones, so I had to scramble for an empty food basket and placed the refuse in that. Some of the ribs had too much fat so it was a fun game to not find the fatty stuff. Once the ribs were complete(and several napkins later), I went for the sides. The macaroni and cheese, which appears to have a lot of potential, was very watery, and the noodles were a bit overcooked. The cheese sauce was overcooked but maybe that’s because they were not prepared for the crowds. The ranch beans had great first taste, but overall were super sweet and could not take more than 2 – 3 spoonfuls of them. Finally, I got birch beer from the soda fountain and the soda tasted flat. Gross. The cornbread however was really good. I’ll return again because I have that sticker that after a certain amount of meals, one is free. But next time I’ll be more attentive to what else is on the menu and perhaps spend less money in the process.

The chicken is excellent — very juicy, cooked thoroughly, tender, lots of meat. The potato salad was good. Not a big fan of the Mac and cheese(the cheese tastes a little sharp for me). The ribs — expensive, not very meaty(more fatty, more charred flesh). Didn’t fall off the bone. A little on the dry side. Not sure I’d go back for the ribs. Service very friendly though!

The Bone, aka Bad To The Bone. You may know them from their Gainesville store or their many food truck appearances @ Heritage Brewing & around town. This is NOT like their restaurant in Gainesville. They don’t have a bar or large dining room. This is a scaled down version with an abbreviated menu, see photo. They hickory smoke on site w/two cookers. They have sone great choices of quality locally sourced ‘que at comparable prices of other area restaurants; re: Williards of Chantilly. They have a most excellent pulled pork Q and angus beef brisket. I bought a pound for take out and it made several delicious sandwiches eaten by native North Carolinians who know bbq and rated it @ four out of five stars. A very nice & open dining room you might describe as stadium style seating, see photos. They now have their beer/wine license and are serving local Craft Brews from Heritage, Old Bust Head, Lost Rhino & Port City. Have some ‘que & support your local independantly owned business.

This place just goes by The Bone, but perhaps the full name of «Bad to The Bone» is more fitting for what the experience of this place really is. I came here yesterday with my husband and I get they were crowded since it was the 4th of July and there was a festival and fireworks going on in Old Town Manassas, but we probably waited about 30 minutes in line to order. I think more than 1 cashier would have really helped to get people in and out. As for the food, we saw a smoker out front so we were pretty excited to get some really smoked BBQ, but we were underwhelmed with the taste of the food on all fronts. We went with the pulled pork and mac & cheese. The pork just wasn’t very flavorful at all and needed the help of the BBQ sauces which were ok, I like the whiskey one the best. The mac & cheese(which is a $ 1 up charge) tasted like velveta from a box… definitely not worth the up charge. I think this place will probably do ok since it has a great location in Old Town Manassas, but they need to step up their game on the food big time.
