We visited Virginia BBQ this weekend since we had a groupon and were in the area. Yes the groupon is only for certain items: Pulled pork with VA style sauce, pulled pork with Carolina style sauce, or pulled chicken. It came with 2 sides and a drink. I order the VA style pulled pork and my husband ordered the Carolina style. Both sauces were delicious, especially together. They are spot on with the Carolina sauce. My husband thought the meat seemed reheated as if frozen given the consistency, but I thought it was just all around tasty. We got the corn muffins which were fantastic. I love corn bread, corn muffins, you name it. I also got the potato salad which was different than what I’m used to but still had good flavor. They weren’t as creamy, had bigger potato chunks, and less of the other stuff ie egg, celery, etc. Again different but good. My husband’s other side was the baked beans which were good and kind of had a zip to them. I thought the service was fine and the wait normal. It’s not the best BBQ I’ve ever had but it’s better than grocery store pulled pork.

Just left, and I am a happy man. I cannot wait till I can go back and get another beef brisket sandwich. The whipped potatoes were sooo good, as was the mustard bbq sauce. If you like bbq, you’ll want to come here.

Look, the food is a solid 3⁄5. But this review isn’t about the food, I got a ½ rack of ribs(were pretty good but could’ve used more meat), the corn muffins(kinda bland), and the mac n cheese(cheesy but room for improvement). This about customer service, and how you can simply be a good restaurant without being good. There is business at this place, roughly 20 – 25 seats, and including myself, 7 people were eating in-house, with a take out order waiting, and this was at the real early start of the dinner rush. The owner I think knew this and took the time to introduce the product he was selling. He also gave the chance of offering free samples of his homemade chicken noodle soup to customers to give us a warm feeling inside before the orders arrived. That alone would’ve been enough, until he came up to me and gave me two samples of Carolina BBQ pulled pork and Virginia BBQ pulled pork. Having lived in Winchester for 2.5 years, and across the street from a BBQ and bakery joint, one that is pretty darn good, I know good pulled pork. But it didn’t matter. The owner was very appreciative of my business that he asked how both were just to see how he could sell it out to his prospective customers. I gave him an honest answer, and hopefully, he will take it to heart. No, I didn’t see the smokers. I figure most of his food is either cooked in the back or done off site. But that’s fine. When you treat your customers like family, they will return. It might not be the place that says, «Let’s pull over for some of this tonight!» but it always leaves a good feeling when you go and are treated the way he treated me. Maybe he will do the same for you. Because it shouldn’t always be about the food, it should be how you go about, the way, you want to present it, and yourself.

It was very tasty and it was worth it! Pulled bbq sandwich was really good and it was cheap! … But potato salad wasn’t the best but it was still good :)

I’ve been there once and haven’t returned again. I wasn’t impressed at all with the food. I’m actually surprised they’re still open.

In response to management’s comments, I spoke to the staff on several occasions expressing my concerns and to my surprise they were equally as frustrated with the customer complaints. When I first started eating at Virginia BBQ, the quality and service was better and you accepted coupons for more food items. In the past year or so the quality went down and the coupons became more limited. Instead of rebutting customer comments, make the effort to improve. Look at your overall reviews… not good. Good luck, I wont eat there again.

Definitely won’t be going again. I was looking forward to the sides but they were all super salty. I had gotten the whipped potatoes and the collard greens. They didn’t drain the collard greens and like I said really salty. But by far the saltiest were the whipped potatoes. When you advertise whipped potatoes, I expect them to be smooth. When it came to the taste, the cook must have opened the salt shaker, and dumped the salt in. It was inedible. My friends had the potato salad and said the same things. It was gross!!!

Terrible customer service. Good was dry, also gave me and my co workers the wrong sides. There was a language barrier when I tried to split the check. The lady at the front charged me my coworkers meal and my meal together. Then ended up charging my meal by itself.

A coupon from got me in the door and that was the best part. The quality of the food was poor at best. I’ve had better from hot food bars in grocery stores. Everything tastes as if it were purchased in bulk, warmed up, and served. The service was extremely slow. I waited 25 mins for my food and I was the only one in the restaurant when I ordered. Anyone who owns there own grill should definitely use it as opposed to coming to this place.

Food is hot and tasty but Very Salty! Table service is poor, so I guess they just expect meager tips in jar on counter. Also I did not expect foam containers for dining in ;-( Only went due to low price deal coupon, so will not be back.

Hi– Do you enjoy eating moldy food? Then this is your spot! I could end my review here and that would be fine but I want to be fair to the future diners. So I went to this place with my wife and I didn’t order any food(because of the reviews) but my wife was craving pulled pork SW and wanted to give this place a shot. She got the SW. She has a bad habit of looking at the food and breathing in the goodness before she digs in. BANG! That was a mistake. She found green mould on the bun! Awesome. She went to the counter and asked for the new SW and the counter person showed her concern and got her the new SW. She commits the same mistake again. She inspects and to her surprise she finds more mold. This time we didn’t even bother going t the counter to have a conversation. We didn’t have the courage to taste the corn bread and the sides so I am sorry can’t comment on how awesome they tasted. I request the owners to please please take a serious look into the food hygiene issue. Cuz if the food is not good then I am ok with that but if it has mold then we are. talking about some serious shit here. Not for anyone else’s sake do it for your own sake.

Had better. Had a coupon from and now I know why this place needs to use deals to bring people in. BBQ was dry.

I really enjoy the service we get when we come here. Cashiers are friendly and service is quick. Their food is somewhat sub-par. For bbq it is kind of flavorless, but they do provide sauces for your slathering pleasure so that’s pretty groovy. Honestly, for a quick weeknight meal, this place is alright. It’s no Dixie Bones or Smokin’ Brays but it’s alright.

Now I see what all the fuss is about. Or rather, what all the fussing is about. With all due respect to fellow M-town Unilocaler Jodi C — I totally get the one star reviews. This is, without a doubt, the worst barbecue I have ever had. I will disclose that I came in right before closing, and my service here was still very prompt and polite. But throwing me smiles while heating up barbeque that is cooked offsite and has absolutely no flavor doesn’t do me much good. I ordered what the call the«Novice BBQ Platter» — named for BBQ«novices» who want to sample multiple styles. The name was more fitting than I could imagine — a novice could make better BBQ than this. I started with the Carolina BBQ, my favorite style, and found dry, chewy pork that had no smoke flavor from the meat and a very slight hint of the characteristic Carolina vinegar/pepper sauce. I know the meat is prepared off-site, but I can visit my hometown and buy a pound of Carolina BBQ from a local church fundraisr, keep it in my fridge for a few days, and it will still taste 100x better. The other two styles were a bit better. To be honest, I didn’t even know there was a «Virginia» regional variant of BBQ. But my research says there is, and it originated in Hanover, VA(near to where the restaurant Virginia Barbeque originated) and it’s basically pulled pork with a sweeter style of sauce. Both this and the Texas Beef brisket were better, but the meat had no smoke flavor at all. All you could taste was sauce. It was like buying pre-packaged processed BBQ in the grocery store. The sides weren’t bad. I thought the potatoes were pretty tasty. I might even come back for those. The mac and cheese was passable. The cornbread was way too dry for me, but my wife is the cornbread aficionado and she liked it. They had a couple of dipping sauces to take out — the golden BBQ sauce they had was pretty good. The spicy mayo was meh. I really debated on 1 or 2 stars here, and 1.5 stars is more appropriate. At a high level, this place reminds me of Casa Chimayo on the other side of M-town. They both come at you with a menu that looks great, but then they deliver bland, low quality, food that is completely unauthentic and is an utter insult to the style of food they are trying to serve. For me, that’s a one-star review. Thankfully, I had read the reviews and kinda knew what to expect here, but I always like to see for myself. It can’t be that bad, I thought. I was dead wrong.

Purchased the half rack with side of hush puppies and beans. The food was great and the pork pulled right off the bone. They offer free soup and apple cider. There soup wasn’t bad. The wait was horrible 17mins+ but we enjoyed it.

Okay, so we are talking about a BBQ joint in a strip mall in Manassas… the 1 star reviews seem a little silly to me, but alas… bad service is bad service. Let’s lay this out… there are no smokers here… there is no outdoor open BBQ pit… if this meat is actually smoked or grilled, it’s done off site, and the flavor of the food is going to be affected by that. Keep this in mind ya’ll. They do things a little differently here, the offer up all the BBQ styles, VA, NC, and TX, another red flag… if you are gonna play in the sauce. do one, and make it fabulous! If your messin’ around with all three, you’re never going to make one of them pure perfection. The silver lining… you have your options. Personally, I am a NC fan. I’ve tried them all here. The VA, eh. its okay, the sauce is a little sweet… missing that smokey flavor that I associate with VABBQ, but in all honesty, I think the meat is cooked/smoked(?) pretty well. The Texas… I want bold spiciness… eh; this is more like KC Masterpiece. The NC… I was expecting to turn my little nose right up at this because nothing beats Parkers BBQ in NC to me… but I was pleasantly surprised. The vinegar/spice balance was pretty spot on. A little crushed red pepper, a little sugar… all done really well, my complaint… lay off the sauce peeps! NCBBQ is a watery sauce… duh, it’s vinegar based, and NOBODY wants their meat swimming in liquid! The sides… Corn muffins… tasty, but dry. Hush Puppies… same, but they came in handy sopping up the excess amount of vinegar. Green Beans… hell yeah!!! I could literally eat a bucket of these. Mashed Potatoes… instant, but they do the trick. The gravy is pretty good too, but they run out of this side pretty quick. Mac & Cheese… I am probably the WRONG person to ask about M&C… I like the instant stuff in the box. I have never been a fan of oven baked M&C because it’s a dry pile of blah noodles and flavorless cheese. Long live Craft! The service here is hit or miss. I’ve never eaten in the dining room; I always take mine to go. The people behind the counter can either be really really nice… or make it clear that they are only there to hand you a bag of food. It’s generally pretty clean. The soda/ice machine is always out of ice. Always. I don’t know if I just have bad timing, but it’s AlWaYs EmPtY! The iced tea is amazing! So, now that you’re eyes hurt from reading all this… but you know that they have bangin’ green beans… give VABBQ a try.

This was my first visit to Virginia Barbeque. I found the pulled pork barbecue average. Not bad, but not memorable. I ordered the Virginia BBQ Combo: Regular pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw, two sides, and a small corn bread. I selected baked beans and potato salad. The presentation, even on a styrofoam plate, was nice. There are any number of barbecue sauces to choose. I tried the Virginia sauce and Hot sauce. They were good, and the Hot sauce very mild. The sandwich was thick with ample meat and I liked that cole slaw came with it. But I have to report the taste was average. Very good sides. The counter staff are friendly.

They got ribs! Heard from some locals this place had some good Que. Did take out on a half rack of pork ribs… mmmmmighty good! You have the option of getting the sauce on the side or on the ribs. I would recommend, on the side; you get get a generous amount for now and later. Thick, rich and tasty tomtao based sauce and much better than you get bottled in most local stores. I tend to go for Sweet Baby Rays if I buy off the shelf and their sauce compares to that though not quite as sweet. It has great flavor and is good for dippin or basting. Great value at $ 8.99 considering the side of sauce. The half rack gives you 9 flavorful, falling off the bone pork ribs. You won’t have to work for your meal with these ribs, they are smoked and cooked just right. They advertise their ‘secret recipe sauce’ so there must be something to it. You can also go for the vinegar based sauce in you lean that way. The menu looks good I will def be going back to try more of the Va que. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have s small dining room if you want to eat in. They also have a couple of outside tables to enjoy the weather when it suits.
