Great food and great service. The atmosphere is also good. The sliders are wonderful. We’ll definitely visit again soon!

The shiver shack has become our family spot since we moved to Mandeville in 2013. Tony has formed a great bond with my husband and will sit and talk to us whenever there’s by a long line waiting(which is rare). I’m not sure what’s better, the snowballs or the food. I have had the pickle stuffed snowball with margarita syrup. It’s a great combo or sweet and sour. The yellow cake batter with condensed milk is really good too, and I like that even their smalls are big! I like the Chinese food boxes instead of cups. The food is a whole different ballgame… My daughter swears that the cheeseburger there is the best she’s ever had. The pulled pork is so perfectly smoked that we have bought pounds of the pulled pork alone to just eat at home. We highly recommend the pulled pork nachos and the pulled pork tacos with slaw. Atmosphere is a happy place for us. Music is wonderful, chalkboard ONEVERYTHING is always a blast for kids. And you can’t beat the splash pad across the street. Our family lives the shiver shack :).

Place is great but they need to put up something to control the flies… strips, water jars, etc…

We used to stop by all the time when they first opened. Soft ice and fun atmosphere… It was new and refreshing. They have really come a long way since then with expanding both their atmosphere quality and menu options. Unfortunately this place is a snow ball stand. Although they have really improved in many areas… I believe they forgot they were a snow ball stand… Ice is poorly shaved, and they can never get the amount of syrup correct. I used to ask for light syrup and never had to add more. They used to make it right the first time. Also, bring a little cash since you can’t tip the kids via credit card machine. I have been there twice now and forgot about this. I felt so bad.

I will not be supporting this business again, as the owner is well-known for mistreating and verbally abusing his young employees.

It was a ok place to eat. If I am in the neighborhood I would bring my kids there but I will not go out of my way to go there

Yes, it is a shack on the Tammany Trace bike trail! I was pleasantly shocked by how good it was. We had ridden about 10 miles and I was craving a sweet iced tea. Since this place specializes in snowballs the ice used for the snowballs was used for my iced tea. It was great sweet southern iced tea with perfect ice and free refills. Then I decided I better get a snack before I headed back the 10 miles to the car. My friend and I both got the Barbecue pork slider with coleslaw on it. I think it was the best barbecue pork I have ever put in my mouth. It melted in your mouth with a nice soft slider bun good sweet with a tang sauce and good coleslaw on it. The guy running the place was really nice and told me everything was fresh and cooked there. It was a great stop. You can also rent bikes there. I’d go back just to get another slider and to try something else. I highly recommend it.

Everything here is really good from the snowballs to the burgers… a few items are a little pricey but not too bad. Lots of different menu items. Located right on the Mandeville trailhead with lots of places to sit and eat(all outdoors). They even have misting fans for when it’s really hot outside.

Shiver Shack is far more than the name implies. While I may have been raised in New Orleans, I never bought into the snowball craze. Many New Orleanians would consider this a cardinal sin, but I just can’t get all googley eyed over shaved ice and some unknown liquid poured all over it. Despite my lack of excitement over snowballs, my kids absolutely adore them. I try and avoid taking them, but when I do, Shiver Shack is where we go and I will tell you why. Snowballs Shivery shack uses the Chinese food style containers for their snowballs that I think work better than the standard Styrofoam containers. I am sure they are also better for the environment, but that rarely factors in to my decision where to go. The sheer number of flavors itself is impressive, but what is even more impressive is the availability of chocolate. Even though I don’t go gaga for snowballs, a well done chocolate snowball is something even I can appreciate. Their version is rich and creamy and makes you forget you’re eating a snowball. Well it makes you forget until that all too familiar horrid feeling of brain freeze creeps in. The true test of snowball quality is the kid test and Shiver Shack is kid tested and kid approved. Food In addition to more snowball flavors than I have ever seen, Shiver Shack has a full menu. Their menu includes burgers, bbq and a good selection of po-boys. I was a little reluctant to order a po-boy, but the cashier assured me that if I liked Bear’s I would like theirs. She seemed to suggest a connection between their place and Bear’s as if they get their meat from there, but I can’t confirm that. What I can confirm is that the roast beef is pretty darn good, excellent if you consider the fact that it came from a snowball stand. In addition to the po-boy, I’ve also tried their pulled pork nachos. While good, they used liquid nacho cheese which is something I cannot stand. Had they used shredded and melted cheese the nachos would have been great, but I did appreciate the BBQ pork atop the dish. Location Shiver Shack is directly across from the Mandeville Trailhead. Expect it to be packed at times, particularly on the weekends, but I’ve always managed to find a seat. Even when it is brutally hot outside, there are misters and umbrellas which improve the comfort considerably. If you are in the mood for a snowball, or just a po-boy, I encourage you to check out Shiver Shack.

So we started bringing the boy to the Trailhead so he can run around the water fountains. Afterwards we hit up SS for snowballs, and usually take home some bbq. the snowballs are great, and while i think the Chinese food containers for them are cool, they can leak out the top so be careful with them. I fashion myself as a connoisseur of snowballs. You can never really have too much syrup on snowballs, but you can definitely have too little. The SS is generous with their syrup. The ice is also very soft, not Snobliz soft, but this place is so much closer to my house I’ll overlook the slight drop in quality. They also have ice cream if your kid isn’t into snowballs. The bbq is good, but I’d recommend getting the plates rather than the sandwich because the plate comes with two sides. Anyway, the setting and atmosphere is great, and the staff is friendly. I haven’t really come here on a night where it’s super crowded or anything, just weekend afternoons. We’ve already been a couple of times and it’s not even summer yet. I foresee several trips here in the next few months. They have a very wide variety of food on the menu, like pizza and burgers, so i’m sure i’ll be sampling all of it by September.

Love this place. The snowballs are the best because the containers a large and they are generous with the syrup. The location and facilities are amazing being on the Mandeville Trailhead. During the summer I can let me son eat his snowball and then play in the water spouts. Fabulous place!
