Colors Custom Furniture

Had Tony re-​upholster two ottomans and a lounger came out gorgeous… great customer service and very prompt. It looks like brand new furniture, and they helped me get rid of the old ones. I would recommend Colors to anyone.

I agree with the other reviews. I have been there 3 times and no one is ever there. I have left messages and no call back. Stay away.

OMG! Another crook! I ordered a custom desk. Tony took ½ down with a 2-​week completion date. After 4 weeks of continuously asking, «where is my desk,» he tells me he’s delivering it on Saturday. No desk. I call and he says he’s running late. No desk. I call and he says he’s in traffic. No desk. Finally, he admits there is not desk. So now I have to get my money back.

They deserve ZERO stars!!!
I was opening a business in December, so I ordered custom chairs from Rocky. She promised me that she would copy –EXACTLY– another chair that I brought from another one of my businesses; you see, I couldn’t buy the chairs anymore where I got them from, so I decided to give it a shot with her. So, she took measurements, pictures and promised them in 4 weeks.
4 weeks came and went and no chairs. First, it was the fabric sample she gave me; they didn’t make it anymore. Don’t you think she should have known that being she was a small store. Next-​1 month later– I get a call telling me they are done. I rush over to the store to sit on a new chair and find they don’t look anything like my sample chair I had brought to the store. I voice my concern to Rocky, and she blows me off and calls me «Crazy and Stupid». At this point, I get her husband involved and voice my dismay to him. He is sympathetic and vows to get them fixed.
Another month later, I get a call to come pickup my chairs again. This time, they look okay except they feel like you are sitting on concrete –unlike the cushy chair I brought them to duplicate. I’m so distressed that I ask an innocent bystander to sit in the chair just so I have proof that the chair is awful; he agrees that there is no comparison. Again, I was subjected to verbal insults from the Rocky who claimed I was «Crazy», and that she wasn’t the owner even though she introduced me to her husband –who is the owner. Does she think she isn’t liable by blaming it on her husband?
Another 2 months later, I finally get another call that the chairs are done. This came as a series of voice mails where Rocky threatened me and made sure I knew I was her favorite word «Crazy». Well, the chairs were delivered for free; I made sure of it!!! I told her I wasn’t paying to rent another truck to pickup unsatisfactory chairs — no way.
I am so glad to read that other customers have had an awful experience with this business because it validates my own. You should never order anything from Colors since chances are it will be wrong and late. On top of that, I don’t think anyone deserves to go through the verbal abuse this owner dishes out.
My experience with Rocky was a horror!!!

Tony built a TV cabinet for us about 10 years ago and we loved it; earlier this week I took delivery of a custom desk he built for my home office. Both experiences with Tony and his staff were positive. I can’t speak for the negative reviews he’s received, but here is my objective overview of the work Tony and his staff have done for us:
1. Flexible — We went to see the TV cabinet before he delivered it and the finish was too shiny and it had the wrong hardware on it. We let Tony know and without hesitation he offered to refinish it and switch out the hardware. He made the change without charging us extra and now we have a beautiful piece that receives lots of compliments from guests.
2. Good with specific directions/​descriptions — I highly suggest bringing brief written instructions of the piece you want built, exact dimensions and magazine clippings of what you want. This is what I did with the desk. Although I had verbally told Tony I wanted it to be cream colored, he made it white. I looked on the invoice and sure enough, he had written down white. It turns out the white looks much better in my office than cream would have, but had I wanted it changed, I’m sure he would have, based on our previous experience with the TV cabinet.
3. Needs a bit of nudging to meet deadlines — Tony is a hard worker and my sense is that he carries a heavy workload. My only ‘needs improvement’ would be on meeting due dates. I did need to call him a few times to check in and see where he was on the project. In the end, the desk was delivered a week after the original promise date, but it was not a huge issue for me because I didn’t need it urgently.
4. Reasonably priced — Prior to contracting Tony, I took the same magazine clippings and description of the desk to another custom furniture maker in Redondo Beach, and that person quoted me $ 650 above Tony’s quote for the same exact piece, and with a lesser-​grade wood.
I would work with Tony again, and I would recommend him with the caveat that if you’re in a rush to have something completed, you will need to be pretty firm about your due-​date and call in regularly to ensure that the work is on schedule. Also, be very specific about what you want and provide dimensions, photos, and a brief written description.

Disappointing experience. We were told a price for an upholstery job, agreed to the price, then the price increased when we went to pick up the pieces. They wouldn’t give us our furniture unless we paid the inflated price. Would NOT recommend this business!~

Decent work, low price, horrific customer service, damage to your house. I had a sofa and ottoman recovered by Tony. The Saturday they were supposed to deliver it, he EMAILED my work email 15 minutes before they were due (he had my cell number) to tell me they weren’t coming. That was a waste of a day.
It was rescheduled for the following Monday (I had to miss work). They arrived, pushed the sofa in through my 2^nd story window, wrestled it up the stairs and unwrapped it only to discover it had a huge black mark on the front (of a white sofa) and a couch cushion had blue pen on it. Down the stairs, out the window it went. Redelivery was set for the next Saturday — he never calls you back when he says he will and then he’ll email you even when you tell him to call. They wrestled it back into the house, only to discover they’d forgotten the pillow. As I waited, fuming, for them to go to the shop to get it, I discovered they’d gouged a 2″ long hole in my teak stairs and had taken a chunk out of a wall. Tony took $ 100 off the price for the hassle but it SO wasn’t worth it. He’s a nice guy but is a totally inept business person. As he was leaving, he asked if we were still friends to which I replied, «I will never use you again».

I don’t know what is going on with this place, but I have had it! In January, I met with Rocky, the owner, in my home to design a 3 piece entertainment center. Then I brought a print out with specific measurements and instructions to her shop, along with a $ 600 deposit. She told me the furniture would be ready for the Super Bowl, the first week of February at the very latest. Those dates came & went. I gave her another week, then visited the shop. She gave me a story about her mother and told me they needed three more weeks. I said ok. March, April… still no furniture… and more excuses… a sick worker… a stolen truck. Finally, in May, five months after ordering, the furniture arrives and it is completely shoddy workmanship. The dimensions are wrong, the hinges are partially painted over, the front of one unit is cracked, and the feet on the main unit are chipped. I refuse to pay the delivery guys and call Colors. Tony comes out to see the furniture & apologizes profusely. He agrees the quality is terrible and promises to rebuild and deliver on May 28^th. I remind him it’s Memorial Day Weekend & ask for a guarantee. He vows to deliver. I spend the entire Saturday in my house waiting for the furniture & trying to track Tony or Rocky down. Guess what, it’s now June 30^th & still NO FURNITURE! More than six months since I ordered & I’m still trying to resolve this mess.
This shop has been in Manhattan Beach for ages and from my research in January had a good reputation. With the discriminating clientele in our town, it’s hard to imagine they would have stayed in business this long, pulling these kinds of stunts. Something has obviously changed recently.
DO NOT ORDER THROUGH THIS STORE.

I can’t believe the experience I just had at this furniture store. 3 weeks ago, I gave Tony, the owner, a $ 100 deposit on a simple tv stand for my son’s room. Tony promised it would be done a week later. 3 weeks later, still no stand. When I asked for my money back I was told by Tony’s wife, Rocky, that she «isn’t the owner.» Tony finally called back and committed to delivery… those dates have come and gone and still no TV stand and no money returned. Really really sad… do yourself a favor DON’T order from Colors.
