Went here for the first time last Sunday. My friend and I met there for lunch around 1:00pm and it happened to be during their happy hour, score! The happy hour menu offered $ 5 tapas, we ordered the Portobello Fries, Spicy Tofu Crispy Rice, and the Garlic Sweet Potato Crispy Rice. For our main course we ordered some rolls: the Yellow Submarine, Yellow Brick Road, and Dynamite. I found that anything described as «spicy» was not, it was mild at best. Everything was plated pretty but as far as taste goes, it was just decent. Stoked they have vegan options nonetheless. I want to try their vegan ramens next time. Shojin is still my favorite sushi spot. I’m giving this restaurant 3.5 stars, obviously can’t do half stars on Unilocal so I rounded down. I would have given 4 stars but our server was on one! She was obviously in a bad mood and was so hasty and made us feel rushed. We were the only ones in the restaurant after one table left when we arrived. It was just two of us too. I get that people have off days, I’ve been there but being a server before I know that if I took it out on my customers it would affect my tip. She still got 15%. I usually tip 20%. It takes a lot for me to tip 15%, I don’t like it but she wasn’t very nice.

I had the salmon carpaccio, orange kale salad and miso soup. My sushi was excellent and so was the salad and soup. The ambiance is very nice here and I appreciated the great service. 5 stars.

Vegan heavy menu meaning lots of vegetables. Was very excited about this. We got Brussel sprouts and broccolini. Both cooked very well. They had a lot of choices that were fried. Some of them shouldn’t be fried. We also had tuna on crispy rice. Lots of tuna. A little too much rice. Great food! Not to busy. Constant refills on our water and green tea.

This is my first time trying a healthy gluten-free organic brown rice(vegan) sushi restaurant. Overall, it was a pretty great experience. Yes, I have joined the gluten-free diet trend, and I’ve been feeling pretty great about it. This place makes it really easy to eat out and stick to the diet; it’s also great for vegans! They have a great prixe fix lunch special which is 5 courses for $ 20, which sounds like a deal to me! First course, soup: miso or corn potage soup. Since I am inherently allergic to corn, I opted for the miso(which I am also slightly allergic too). It was good and had pieces of carrots and shittake mushrooms. Second course, salad. There’s like 6 – 7 options. I got the seaweed and cucumber salad w/ponzu dressing. Which wasn’t my favorite because it was a little salty and I don’t enjoy cucumbers that much. My mom got the kale orange walnut salad which was delicious! I would def get that next time. Third course, appetizer. My mom got the yellow tail carpaccio. It was very flavorful and beautifully presented. I got the crispy brown rice spicy tuna, which was huge! A big ball of spicy tuna on top of a crispy brown rice square. YUM! Fourth course, main. We opted for the chefs sushi special, which was my least favorite dish out of the lunch. The fish didn’t taste very fresh at all, and I was quite disappointed. Next time I might get the miso cod or something else. Fifth course, dessert. A simple scoop of ice cream(soy milk or almond milk?) with berries. A light and simple dessert was nice. Overall, this meal was great even though the main dish wasn’t so hot. The service was great and it’s a cute little place in MB. I would def come back again for the lunch special! And I felt so healthy and not sluggish after eating all this organic & gluten-free food, it’s fantastic.

Really good food for vegans and non-vegans. My dad really enjoyed the tuna sashimi(he said it was very fresh) and I liked the dynamite roll(vegan). The crispy rice with quinoa and asparagus was so disappointing– there was one strand of shaved asparagus for the entire roll and had no real flavor. The dessert was very sweet but mimicked crème brûlée well and the miso soup has a lot of veggies inside which was good. On the pricier side, and I prefer shojin over this place, but it was still good. Great décor!

Rice MB is a vegetarian slash vegan slash sushi restaurant that is out of this world! Whatever your crave is, Rice will suffice it. You’ll find nothing but clean and well balanced dishes. The sushi rolls are made with organic brown rice. My favorite VEGAN rolls are the Dynamite and Yellow Brick Road. The Dynamite is a collabo of spicy tofu and avocado, packed with flavor and deliciousness. The Yellow Brick on the other hand has crispy tofu and kale on avocado with cucumber and shiso for that delectable crunch. I am in LOVE with the Kabocha Pumpkin in their sweet garlic soy sauce. We ordered three plates! The Portabello Mushroom, Broccoli, Eggplant, and Brussel Sprout are all accompanied perfectly with other flavors like shiso sauce, garlic, and sweet miso that don’t overwhelm or mask the natural taste of these wonderful earthly vegetables. They even have vegan ramen too! Comes in three options: Spicy Miso(eggplant, tempeh, and kale), Mello Miso(corn, cabbage, and garlic chip), and Crunch Miso(crispy tofu, onion, avocado and nori in a chili miso soup). Even the VEGAN desserts are a rave. The citrus«cheese» cake and cream brulee are fire! Perfect endings to an amazing meal. They are known for having delicious foods that are gluten-free, organic and natural, high quality, and extremely vegan friendly! I haven’t been so excited about something in so long.

Love love this place! It’s tough to find this place first and it seems like in someone’s apartment. Food is great and so as service! We ordered, snow crab wrap(the waitress recommended us), soft shell crab, rock shrimp, salmon carpaccio(great!!!), Uni nigiri, red snapper nigiri, blue fin toro nigiri and Mb Rainbow roll. Everything I enjoyed and They use brown rice for nigiri! I love brown rice. Please don’t be too popular so I can go there anytime without worrying about reservations!!! It was lunch time so didn’t drink any alcohol. Next time we will order some sake!

This place was such a trip!(Confusing but good.) FOOD:(EDITED) The restaurant is vegan friendly! Their sushi included ingredients you wouldn’t normally have but still stayed true to its taste. In comparison to most sushi bars offering brown rice, this place had much more organic ingredients that will refresh your tastebuds! Never thought sushi would taste any healthier. Got the Big Wave, Rising Sun, & the White Sand.(Also got spicy tuna on crispy BROWN rice for appetizer.) HOWEVER, I do still like my sushi the way it is without the complicated or fancier greens/veggies. Some of their organic ingredients just didn’t compliment the overall rolls. If you’re going for a health kick though, this place is it. SERVICE: T’was alright. They were sweet, explained the healthiness of their menu. But the one major hit? They swapped mine & my friend’s card. Leaving us ACCIDENTALLY using one another’s card the following day. I mean half our fault for our cards just happening to look exactly the same but they did hand it back to us in one pile rather than handing it back individually. I don’t know, I don’t know. But we’ve only made that mistake once before & we’ve been good all other times! Anyway, health fiends. Here’s the perfect substitute to regular sushi! Come by and taste the crisp freshness they offer in their rolls. PS: 3.5, Rice. 3.5.

Note that I am a gluten-free vegan of the organic variety. I really appreciate that Rice accommodates both the vegan and gluten-free folks. MYOFFICIALRATINGIS3.5STARS, BUTSINCE I CANNOTAWARDHALFSTARS, I ROUNDEDUP(DUETOTHEOBVIOUSPROMISEOFTHISRESTAURANT). ASALWAYS, I WILLCONTINUETOUDPATEMYREVIEWAS I EATTHROUGHTHEMENU. LOOKINGFORWARDTOMYNEXTTRIP. FOOD: The Kabocha Pumpkin is one of the greatest things I have ever eaten. WOW. This is truly a must-order. Of the three sushis I ate, I only really enjoyed the Dynamite Roll. Purple Fantasy was okay. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the name of the third sushi I ate. Overall, I enjoy the sushi at Shojin better, but recognize that this menu is more well-rounded. I regret that I did not order more of the veggie side dishes, as the pumpkin was incredible. ATMOSPHERE: Small but hip vibe. Great for a date. Came on a Saturday night and it was crowded. Make a reservation. You can def wear flats or jeans with heels. NOTEFORVEGANS: This is a great place to go with omnivore friends. Everyone will be happy.

This place is amazing! Flavorful, creative, complex. Everything we’ve had here is awesome. I would recommend the Americane miso ramen(rock shrimp, kale, crispy onion, garlic chips, shrimp miso broth) which you can get with gluten free noodles. It was so good we ate all the way down to the bottom of the bowl. Also would recommend the Big Wave(Scottish salmon roll with avocado and truffle oil), and the rice pinchos(spicy tuna). They even have gluten free desserts. We basically come here any time we’re in the neighborhood. Parking is challenging but totally worth it!

What is this place doing in Manhattan Beach??? I couldn’t believe when a friend told me there was a place with bomb Japanese vegan eats in the South Bay. I said no thanks, I got Shojin down the street from me. But I was convinced to go one time and I was turned. You get can vegan sushi, side vegetables, ramen, mains. You get the full spectrum. You can’t leave here without eating like a mfer. The crispy rice roll was on point. The fried lotus chips were good and salty. The eggplant with tempeh was my fav! I appreciate that they add proteins to their vegan food — usually you end up in veg and rice heaven without that protein to balance it out. Not at Rice — you get it all. The ramen, while not very traditional, had amazing broth and good noodles. I wouldn’t be able to come here and just order ramen, though. Miso soup wasn’t anything special. We went on a Tues night and it was quiet, but I was told it was a one off. Usually it’s poppin in there. So our service was amazing and the food came super fast — but this may not be typical. OK Rice — I absolutely hate going to the South Bay but I will for you!

Not crowded at all for noon on a Saturday. They had a few specials going on as well. $ 5 tapas on weekends and their Halloween specials. Everything I had was yummy. I ordered the Hakkaido scallops which were delicious! My friend and I shared garlic edamame & asparagus. Both amazing. She ordered the salmon roll. Only 2 pieces though! So we both enjoyed this place bc we were trying to be healthy. I would not recommend this for a hungry family after spending a day at the beach thoUgh. The portions were beyond tiny, especially for the price.

This place is located a few blocks away from the beach. Parking here sucks major balls, major ones you hear me? But it’s worth stopping by at least once if you are around this hood. Portobello fries: no thank you, me no likey. Dynamite roll: spicy tofu & avocado w/spicy dynamite sauce. The roll was very savory but very small, since im a fatty I had to order another because it was yummy. Yellow Brick Road Roll: Crispy tofu and kale on green veg roll w/sweet and spicy sauce. This was one of my favorite rolls because their tofu is perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The kale chips make this dish standout as well. Super crispy but a bit too oily though. If i ever feel like a baller and want to spend a little more than i should, then i would definitely come back and treat myself every now and then.

Of course I loved RICE before and I LOVEITEVENMORENOW! !Let me brief you on what our night at RICE was like: It was my friends birthday so we had reservations for 3 on a weeknight. I called ahead that day and asked if It was OK for me to bring a cake I had baked her, and the lady happily said yes, and I also asked if I could store it in the fridge, she said yes! I thought that was awesome. We get there and its like she knew exactly who we were, so she grabs the cake without saying anything and takes it in the back(as if being discreet in front of the birthday girl). We sit down and order drinks(Strawberry mojito excellent as always) and then start on ordering food which was: The spicy garlic cucumber– This dish was a cold veggie appetizer and it was delicious. It was very fresh and had good flavor as well as spice. The pumpkin– I CANNOTTELLYOUHOWMUCH I LOVEDTHISDISH! The texture of the pumpkin was amazing as well as whatever sweet soy sauce concoction was on top. The mellow miso ramen– Got it once and I got it again! I think this ramen is the tastiest! The kale salad– perfect dressing and toppings to go with the whole meal. And then my friends ordered sushi which they enjoyed!!! When it was time for the cake– They turned out the lights, played a sweet birthday song over the speakers, and brought it out with candles!!! They added candles and some berries on it for me! I had already decorated it, but it was solo sweet of them and such a nice touch!!! She took a picture of the 3 of us with the cake, which was sweet but we were kind of wondering why!(haha) We offered her a piece and she packaged everything up for us to go, then gave us 3 prints of the picture she took as well as a birthday card handmade with origami hearts!!! I LITERALLYHUGGEDHER! They made this dinner soooo special for us, and the food was delicious too!!! THANKYOURICE!!! WELOVEYOU!

I was very impressed. From the service and food to ambience, it was all worth it although the parking situation sucks. It took us 10 minutes to find a spot! It’s all because it’s in Downtown Manhattan Beach and on a hilly part. RICE is a small place with a lot of elements. Reservation is a must I would think especially if it’s on a weekend. I loved the fact that we were welcomed and our table was all-ready when we arrived and it was the best corner of the entire restaurant(by the window). First thing, the menu was laid out and then the nice server poured warm water over these little disposable and expandable towels. Well, this process was a great concept but an added anti-bacterial gel should be better.. Or better yet, instruct customers to wash their hands? But it’s appreciated. CRISPYGOBOROOTCHIPS. My first time to taste this famous Japanese root and it is also known for its medicinal components, it was super good! I think I can eat more than what was served. It was simple and delightful. KABOCHAPUMPKIN. I am very familiar with it, not the recipe but the vegetable. It’s my favorite plant-based food ever but this particular dish was so perfect because of the sweet sauce. HOKKAIDOSCALLOPS. Yum. CRISPYRICESPICYTUNA. Deep fried soft brown rice with jalapeño tuna. Super yum! Cocktails. STRAWBERRYMOJITO was really refreshing and the SAKEGRIA was impressive. They both taste like a regular fruity sparkling sodas but alcoholic! I wrote s short note, but we were not required to, on a little notepad provided. I wrote something nice, of course! On our way out, the male staff chased us and made sure that he offered some candies on a glass bowl. I didn’t look what kind of goodies were those but we skipped. No wonder, vegans go nuts on this spot! And the best thing? R&B acoustics music was played the whole time!

As a vegan … Just go downtown LA to the other vegan sushi spot. Skip this place. Any crispy rice is bitter and gross. Only good thing here is dynamite roll… Add jalapeños. Mushroom fries are good too. All the other 10 things I ordered were plain gross. I cook at home all organic nonGMO and clean as well as vegan. This place does not do the«clean and delicious bill» right… Also service took 2 and half hours … Bad .:

Service was sweet. A woman welcomed me to the restaurant and sat me even knowing a friend was running late. They were patient and very accommodating. When my friend arrived, they were quite welcoming and friendly. I ordered the marinated tuna roll with avocado and I didn’t realize it would have deep fried kale. This was a bummer because the heat of the cooked kale made the tuna rolls warm and the warm avocado just didn’t taste good… Also the kale was not flavorful and simply felt like I was eating warm fryer oil. Of the 8 rolls, I ate 6. I never do that. I didn’t complain because that’s the dish and I should’ve read that description better. My friend had the toro and something else and said it was delicious. I will most definitely return and look forward to trying something else!

Last night was the second time I’ve been to Rice and it lived up to expectations we had from last time!!! Great food and awesome service. We made reservations at 7:30 on a Saturday night. We were seated promptly. One lady came by with little«pill» tablets and hot water. She added the hot water to the tablets and they started to grow: hot towels!!! We started with house sake and beer. Our favorites from last time that were still delish this time, was the crunch ramen and the Scottish salmon. Seriously, I crave that ramen!!! I like to add corn and garlic chips! Perfectly oiled and spiced! We also ordered the portobello mushrooms, sweet potato fry and the sashimi special of the night. We will definitely get the portobellos again, but the sweet potatoes lacked flavors. I’ve had other Japanese sweet potatoes before and have never been impressed so I probably just don’t like them! The sashimi was out of this world. They get great cuts of fish. My favorite was the albacore. It literally started melting the moment I put it in my mouth! Staff is super friendly!!! When we stood up to leave, one waitress ran to the door in front of us to hold it open for us! We will be back!!!(Parking meters right outside stop at 9pm, so next time we’ll go a little later for cheaper parking and end the night at Side Door!)

Came here for a lunch with my girlfriends and I was so shock this place was here because my house is literally just down the street from here. The address is a bit deceiving because it actually doesn’t SIT on Manhattan Ave, it actually sits on 9th street. So if you’re looking for it on Manhattan Ave, you would be looking forever if you are not familiar with the area. It’s a very small quaint little place, but the food was very good and the service was so prompt and friendly. We all got their luncheon special, which is way more food than I should eat… but did! And I admit it, I loved every part of it! I started with their orange, tomato, and candied pecan salad. Very yummy with lots of flavor! Miso soup, now this place does not make miso soup in a sense that we all know miso soup to be. They add carrots to it, and some people were put off by it but I love me some vitamin C so bring it on! The mushroom that they put in their soup is shittake. Then I had their crispy tofu, I still haven’t decided how I feel about this dish. because the crispy part was actually deep fried white rice(think burnt rice for those who know what I’m talking about) and the top part is topped with a tofu paste. I liked the dish, though there really wasn’t that much flavor to it aside from the crunchiness but I can see how some may not like it. Jury is still out for me on this one, maybe I just need to try it like 5 more times… lol Then I had their miso cod, it was my favorite dish. However there are tiny bones that were still attached to this fish– you’ve been warn! I will come back on a later date, or maybe even convince the Mr to skip our usual sushi place(which is just down the street from this one) to try Rice one evening for their sushi! Updates on the sushi later. All in all I like this place and now that I know how close it is I may even walk here to lunch when meeting with my girlfriends. Cheers!

Probably the most healthy Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been to. This place specializes in gluten free, organic, and vegan diets so I was very surprised to find myself here. They do have sushi though and baked shrimps and stuff. Salads were extremely fresh, cute setup and dineware. They had one waitress and she did an incredible job of serving my work party of 10. I ordered the mellow miso ramen, it contained no chashu pork but had delicious consistency in the broth. It wasn’t a let down and I quite enjoyed it. Definitely a cute place to take a date. Even their soy sauce was organic! Ridic
