I don’t even like sushi and I thought it was great here. My boyfriend is the one into it, and he said his was great.

I have been here a few times now and the food is actually pretty good, but they have a constant gnat problem and today was the last time I will be there. My friend ordered the rolls and asked for soy paper with her lunch combo and instead of saying«it will be extra» like most places, she just said NO. My friend repeated it because she thought it might be a language barrier but nope she just said they do not substitute on the lunch combos. I literally swatted at numerous gnats throughout my lunch and asked the waitress about it, she then no longer spoke English(sigh)

I’ve been to Osho many times, it’s a few blocks from everything I do from sleep till dine. Now, growing up in a Japanese community are my roots and to be a Japanese eatery U must meet my expectations from the design to the staff to the product. Osho is a nice, bland, no frills, somewhat looking Japanese owned, designed place. The waitresses I see, definitely Japanese. As well as one chef I see often. I would always go for the Udon and I enjoy it very much. I did have the Teri chicken w sauce on side and the chicken was just too dry. As for the sushi, I enjoyed the avocado roll, salmon & maguro sushi. Nice large slices, fresh. Probably fishery raised tho. Obviously they cater to a niche in Manhattan Bch and that niche is not Japanese taste buds. But never the less, I will go back for Udon. And a quaint meet up.

We have eaten here many times over the years. The food is consistently good and the menu has enough variety for my wife who is not a sushi eater. My kids also enjoy the atmosphere and teriyaki steak and chicken. The sushi is high quality and their combination plates are enormous. The staff is very engaging and service is wonderful. I recommend it to every Japanese visitor and all of my friends.

Run away if you want rolls! Whoever gives this place high reviews for their sushi rolls needs to go to NYC and try real sushi. Rice falls apart. Does not taste good. Waitress says«everything is good» when you ask her for recommendations. I hope this does not represent sushi in LA

Some of the best sushi for the best prices in the South Bay! There’s nothing better than the 911 roll!

Apparently the management is paying attention to their Unilocal page — the folks at O-Sho were apologetic and accommodating when I visited them after my last post! It’s still my favorite sushi spot in the South Bay, even more so knowing how much they care about their customers. Highly recommend their lunch special!

Comparing at price, fish quality is so poor. Very little portion. also, they don’t even have zirashi. Their credit card processing in front of customers at tables is a lot of pressure. They ask for how much tip remain in check and they punch the number.

O-Sho is probably the most authentic Japanese place I’ve been to in the Manhattan Beach area. Most good Japanese places are in Torrance so it’s nice to have an option in MB. I have only ever gone for lunch but I like their chicken lunch special. The chicken is grilled very well and is nice and moist with good flavor. It comes with a salad which has really light mayonnaise-like dressing which is yummy. The miso soup is a bit on the salty side. You also get a scoop of white rice and then the vegetable tempura is delicious! They have a nice variety of vegetables in the tempura including green beans, zucchini, mushrooms, onion ring and yam. The tempura is done very well and not super greasy. The waitresses are all Japanese and the service is pretty good. There is a small parking lot in front of the restaurant where I’ve usually been able to find parking. It is usually pretty busy during lunch but I haven’t had to wait for a table which is nice.

Nice place for family. Garden salad was great. Tempura was a bit heavy. Uni was very fresh.

O-Sho? Fo’ sho. This little strip mall sushi spot seems like a well-kept secret. It didn’t even look open and I had a hard time opening the door the other night when I visited, and for a Wednesday night it was packed inside. If you want the full menu with entrees, you have to sit at a table. Otherwise the bar only serves sushi. The menu is small, only a handful of specialty rolls and more an extensive offering of sushi/sashimi which tells me this place is kind of a serious sushi joint. I ordered a rainbow roll, which seemed pricey at $ 15.75 but when it arrived it was massive. It had three fish types on top: salmon, tuna and halibut. All were very fresh. The fake krab filler though was a little dry. I ordered a blue crab roll for $ 7.75, which was smaller but definitely a good value. I didn’t like how salty and slightly stinky the crab was, and it was mixed with mayo and orange roe, but I think maybe that I am not used to eating real crab in a roll. I was a little confused that there seemed to be many cooked/fried rolls. The tiny menu tells me this place is authentic but then again it has cooked rolls for a non-traditional spin. For me, the food was pretty good but not exceptionally memorable. This place stands out really for its service, which is where my 4th star comes from. The two sushi chefs — one young and one older Asian-American men — were exceptionally friendly and pleasant. It seemed that many of the customers were on a first-name basis with the staff. I was wowed when my chef boxed up my leftovers beautifully with a fresh cup of soy sauce, wasabi and ginger and wrapped new chopsticks and a napkin on top. I appreciated that extra effort.

My friend and I stopped in O-Sho for her birthday dinner. We had both heard good things, so possibly our expectations were a little high. The atmosphere COULD be perfectly fine, if not for the painfully bright and unflattering light from the abundant(and harsh) fluorescent bulbs in the overhead fixtures. Passable for lunch, but not for dinner, especially if you’re looking for a nice weekend evening out. The service was friendly, but INCREDIBLY slow. The restaurant WAS busy, but there were plenty of servers on duty for the number of patrons. It took over 25 minutes to get a bowl of edamame(we asked multiple times), which in the end was brought out WITH our first roll. The rolls themselves were flavorful, fresh enough(not the best I’ve ever had, but pretty darn decent for the price point) but VERY loose and nearly impossible to eat(I eat a lot of sushi and am competent with the old chopsticks, folks.) Quite honestly, I really didn’t mind that too much, I was with a friend and we just laughed watching each other try to catch the waterfalls of rice toppling off of our chopsticks(my friend gave up and used her fingers and they were too loose to even hold together for THAT) and had a fun time. If one was there with, let’s say, a business associate or a date… well, it might be a little awkward. Based on the reviews(word of mouth) I had heard before my visit, I have a good feeling that the sloppy rolls were probably a rare event. I would definitely return, but never for dinner.(see fluorescent bulb commentary.) Maybe for lunch, or to-go(if they have carry-out…I’m not sure if they do.) I would say it’s worth checking out, but not for an important or romantic meal. , Laura

Wow, now this is fantastic sushi! We ordered just about every item on the specials board whether we knew what it was or not and everything was amazing. You gotta love when you can put complete trust in the chef! We had the sea scallop, sea bream, papano, monkfish liver(don’t miss this!), spanish mackerel, and toro all from the specials of the day. In addition to these we also got a spicy tuna hand roll, salmon skin roll(best I’ve ever had), and the 911 roll. The fish was incredibly fresh and so thoughtfully paired with small toppings such as freshly grated ginger, lemon, sea salt, etc. The only thing we did not have room for to try was the rainbow roll. We will definitely be getting that the next time we go. I can’t recommend this place enough!

I’m doing it again. Years ago, I would hop on my motorcycle and go for a ride. When I started to get hungry, I’d find a place to eat that wasn’t a chain. It’s how I ended up at O-Sho Sushi, except, that I was in my car and not on two wheels. I don’t remember what night I was there but walking in and finding a full house, to me, is a good sign. However, a party of one always tends to be seated right away in a Sushi restaurant. Thanks to the Sushi bar. It’s where I sat. The Chef wasn’t as talkative as others I’ve encountered but he was pretty busy. I enjoyed his suggestions of what was fresh — yellow tail and scallops. I will have to say, the Octopus Sushi I ordered, the slices were thinner than I’ve experienced at other Sushi restaurants. It wasn’t the case with the rest though(tuna, salmon, scallops and yellow tail). Service was outstanding. My hot green tea cup was never empty and as they saw how much water I was also drinking, someone decided to give me a second glass. I’ve never experienced that before. Sushi was prepared by the Chef right in front of me so it went from being prepped, right into my mouth. Can’t ask for better service than that. I enjoyed my experience there. Seems like a lot do because business was steady while I was there and even while I was leaving.

If I were in say, one of the corn ridden prairie states, I’d give this place 4 stars. But this is So Cal… Sea gulls literally fly in from the ocean and poop on you, that is how oceanic this region is… meaning… get with it, I don’t want a few fish choices, I want to decimate the entire Under the Sea. In the golden age of Sushi it’s amazing how meager the selection is here. Things that are standard but not here: Free edemame, Free tea, omakase, creative rolls, no mussels. The oysters were good, the fish was fresh, the selection was sad.

O-Sho is a good solid restaurant that I was last there over 10 years ago, but finally got around to visiting it in 2015 again. I enjoyed it back in the days Fo’Sho, so was looking forward to the planets aligning right to come back and it took over a decade. The lunch specials during the weekday were good here. The food and pricing is solid as is the service. The only criticism I have is that they do have an upgrade charge for Brown Rice, so in today’s health conscious environment, I usually like to see restaurants offer both options with no variance in pricing. There’s also an upcharge for white meat chicken, again it’s always a tad more expensive to eat healthy(since the white meat chicken is less fatty than the dark meat chicken). But other that those being just personal pet peeves, which were and are clearly outlined in the menu, so it should be to nobody’s surprise when the bill comes. I’d come back again, and sooner than the next decade and probably within the year.

Teriyaki. Monday, about 12:30, place was busy. Waited about 5 minutes for a table. Ordered the teriyaki lunch special, California rolls, 911 roll & spicy tuna popper. The rolls & popper came out fairly quickly, the teriyaki took awhile. California Roll — normal, same as every other place. 911 roll was advertised as really spicy — it wasn’t & gets a ehh, rating. Spicy tuna popper wasn’t exciting or flavorful either. Now, the teriyaki was very good. The chicken had a smokey flavor along with the teriyaki. Everything else was flavorful on the plate. Bottom line, teriyaki lunch is the way to go, both economically and flavor.

The locals seem to love O-Sho, as it’s been around for a long time. Perhaps that’s why their standards seem low. Or perhaps they’ve gotten lazy over they years? It was my first time, so hard to tell. The fish is okay, but only okay. And seem very uninterested in making simple improvements that could improve their business and customer service. For instance, the décor is non-existent, and they have a very limited wine and sake list. They have perhaps 1 – 2 types of cold sake, one hot sake, and one other type of wine(a cheap Chardonnay). You want red wine? Shut up and have a beer. I finally did order the cold sake. It came barely chilled, so I asked for an ice bucket to put it in. They looked absolutely baffled, and tried to figure out a solution to this unexpected conundrum of a customer wanting cold sake to be cold. By the time they found a(too small) vessel to hold the bottle and ice in, the sake was room temperature and we didn’t didn’t want to finish it. We stopped ordering, paid our bill and went elsewhere for better quality… uh, everything.
