This restaurant is kind of dirty. And that’s saying a lot bc I don’t expect a lot from vietnamese restaurants to begin with. There is a weird and faint odor when you walk in and the lighting is very dim, not in an ambient kind of way. However, the two stars is strictly given because their phở and is the only restaurant phở I’ve ever eaten(so far) that tastes like homemade phở! If you are viet, you know there is a difference between even the best restaurant phở to a nice big pot your mom made at home.

My husband and I dined here on a Wednesday evening for dinner at the suggestion of my friend who raved that this place was«better than all other phở places on the Westbank». Walking in, when we should have smelled savory vietnamese spices and food, our noses were instead met with the unmistakable pungency of moth balls.(My husband said«old people.») This is NOT conducive to fostering an appetite. There was a signboard on the wall by the counter listing 4 appetizer specials. I love softshell crab and was hoping to try it, but it was not to be since they were out of all but one appetizer, the beef sticks. So we settled for that. It has a comparably extensive menu, though it’s not redeeming at all since they were out of all things fried. Crab rangoon, crispy fried squid, fried chicken wings… nope. All out. Also they were out of beef phở. How does that even happen? My husband was disappointed, but I was there for bun. I got the grilled pork, which was definitely rubbery and processed, not unlike the consistency of Spam. I have never had grilled«pork» like this. The interior is dated but clean and serviceable. Our waitress was brusque, but accurate and very quick, and why shouldn’t she be? We were one of only two parties there. Reading some of the other reviews, I am sure at one time this place was fantastic, but seems to have since deteriorated in every way conceivable. I wish I could say that we will continue to eat here, but unfortunately, we will not be returning.

I really like their Banh Hoi Nem Nuong and their chicken Phở :) Their portion sizes can be inconsistent sometimes though. They also have good Shaken Beef.

Hidden little gem! The food is very good and tastes very fresh! The atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired, but I usually do take out anyway. I had the lemongrass bed bun(vermicelli salad) and it was one of the best I’ve had. I always start with bun at a new Vietnamese place and this one was excellent! It has large chunks of lemongrass which was a very yummy surprise! Can’t wait to try other things on the menu!

Love this place! The Vietnamese good is authentic. The Phở is very delicious. You can taste the fragrant seasoning. The cold spring roll is also a must try. For those that are just trying Vietnamese food but still want something American try the Com Bo Luc Lac. It’s steak cubes with rice and an excellent transition into trying more Vietnamese food.

This is a great little hole in the wall. Love to stop in for lunch. Favorites are the Phó Ga and Bún!

The best phở broth I’ve had in a long, long time. Meaty and plenty of substance without being overly sweet. The tendon and rare beef was plentiful and perfectly tender. The spring rolls were fine. Service was fine. The phở was delicious!

Service is subpar. I am a firm believer in quality customer service. I’ll deal with mediocre food but I don’t tolerate rudeness. The waitress was not hospitable and comes off really rude. Sorry, not coming back.

This place should shut down soon. We drove all the way from Metaire and received nothing but disappointment! Everything we ordered was no longer available?! I want to order hu tieu nam vang kho, but the waitress replied,“oh, you have to wait 30 minutes until the lady boss come back to make it.” So we asked for some more time to decide on another dish. When we have decided, my boyfriend ordered a stir fried egg noodles dish and she answered, «oh, that you have to wait too.» Are you serious?! Why bother to open a restaurant when you don’t even know how to manage it properly? No wonder it was dead slow when you come in.

This place is super close to my house and delicious. Definitely not 5-star service, but they are efficient, and the food is awesome. If you are used to the huge menus of other Westbank Vietnamese restaurants, like Phở Tau Bay, you won’t find that here. It’s a smaller menu, but what they cook, they cook very well. I wish they had more variety for spring roll fillings, but the grilled pork is good, so I can’t complain. Also, bonus points for having«Phở Baby» on the menu… broth, chicken, and noodles. It is kid-sized, although my 5 year old can never finish a whole bowl anyway. I haven’t seen any other Vietnamese restaurants in the area offer a kid-sized portion of anything.

Are you a phở natic? –see what I did there?- DO your tastes run a bit East of most Western eaters? If so, this IS the place to go. The most authentic Vietnamese place I’ve run across in years. Most of the staff almost understand English and with a little patience, you can get your point across. I went for lunch on a weekday and I was the only white person there… and there was probably 5 tables of eaters. And in all honesty, I’m ok with that. Even though it was lunch and had several tables arrive at the same time, the food came out quickly. I got the beef phở with tripe and tendon and a green papaya salad. I can not say enough good things about the broth. I can’t say enough good things about the salad. I can not say enough good things about the service. And the prices were really great. So if you like things traditional and maybe a little scary, Get thee to Phở Ga, my friend. And thank me later.

I wandered out here for a group dinner and my GPS did not know where it was and tried to send me off the ends of the earth. The menu is definitely less westernized and so you can all the bits in your soup here. There were fewer offerings for folks who didn’t eat meat though. I had a seafood dish and it was just OK. The décor was really basic as was the service, although the cases with curing birds was interesting.

The chicken phở here comes with the skin on which is the way many Vietnamese folks prefer it and it does add some extra flavor but just take note if you don’t like skin in your soup. They offer quite a few good goat dishes here and several Vietnamese folks I know tell me they think this is the best place to eat goat. They only have plain iced tea and no jasmine iced tea. The service is fast and efficient and the prices are decent.

I’ve been about twice to this place and the food is pretty good, however if you go on Sunday be prepared to wait. They aren’t staffed enough to give you quick service. My mom mentioned that small places like this is busy on weekends usually. Most Viet people don’t eat out often except on weekends or for an occasion. They had one girl taking orders and bringing out orders. A lady running the cashier and trying to clean up the tables. I thought it was very unprofessional of them to have a table set up across from the cashier and in front of the bathroom with dirty dishes. They just picked it up from the tables and dropped it off there that there was barely in room to add anymore to the pile. Our order was taken before the rush came in last time, but our wait was tripled that time. They have very little seating to accommodate the amount of people that walked in. People who came in to make takeout orders were crowded at the counter which was right next to our table literally. So my dad had people brushing up against him. His friend came in to make a take out order and left because the wait was too long. The lady would ring on person up and then take an order, but she moved too slow. Then she’d have to rush to clear a table out, so other people in line would be put on wait. The food is pretty decent, but the service kind of kills it in my opinion. I’ve had a noodle bowl a whole back and got a rice dish this time. It was better compared to other places, but for the drive to come eat here and the wait time I’m not sure I’d go back on a Sunday. During a weekday, might seem like a better choice for some people.

I really wanted to keep this place a secret but they are small business owners so I would love it if some of the Unilocalers out there became patrons of this little place. The phở here will kick phở tau bay and everywhere else out of the water. I used to like Tan Dinh years ago when it was just that hole in the wall place on Lafayette, but once the restaurant became popular the food quality went downhill. My hope is that this place stays humble and consistent in the food. I went here on a Sat afternoon with the hubs and his parents. Their phở ga was awesome. I had the bun ga sao. It was slightly greasy but Im telling you, for what they charge me, they gave me plenty chicken, plenty veggies and the flavor was divine. I know, some people are like, «well how can you go wrong with ga sao?» Trust me, some places just dont get it and the amt of noodles vs meat is ridiculous. Im onto you places that try to fill me up on carbs, give me equal portions of meat with noodles please damnit. The sweet onion and lemongrass was perfect! For 6.25 a bowl how the hell you beat this? I do know that the owner used to be the chef over at Kim Son’s restaurant. He came out several times to greet us, very humble gentleman. I love people like that. Humble and your food consistently great. I cannot wait to go back to eat more yum yum food. I do know that the servers were great, always checking on us — no, not hovering– they accept cash and credit. I do have to say that it’s a bit in the hood and far out by Barataria. Mind you it would take me almost an hr to get there where im located in town but I would come to Quang Minh again for sure if I had to choose between 9 Roses and those other restaurants. Be warned they are closed on Monday but open from 9AM-9APM the other 6 days.

Best viet food on the west bank! I was in town for a baby shower and they were having it at this restaraunt. I try to always seek out the best phở and noodle dishes I can find since I never know when the craving will hit. It was easy to find right off barataria and was pretty busy for a Saturday morning. I tried the house specialty phở ga or chicken soup that I felt guilty finishing it all since there was a lot of other food. A great assortment of spring rolls, rice and noodle dishes, and delicious roasted duck. I’m looking forward to the next time I’m in new orleans so I can come back.
