Hands down, this has got to be the WORST restaurant in Marshfield! I was there last week with my husband because they were part of a LS deal. I ordered steak tips hubby ordered meatloaf. My steak tips cost $ 16.95, there were 4 – 5 tips that had to have been the smallest tips ever served, each tip was no larger than an inch and a half by an inch and a half and they were tough, they were served with a few veggies and greasy onion rings.$ 16.95! It was like some low class early bird special! Husband’s meatloaf consisted of 4 slices maybe ¼″ thick, piled against less than a cup of mashed potatoes, and the meatloaf was burnt! Even my husband commented, how the heck do you burn meatloaf!!! On the bright side our server was great and we tipped her accordingly because she was a good server. The food on the other hand was awful, and when we got home we both ended up in the bathroom if you know what i mean… I will advise everyone to avoid this place and go to any of the other restaurants in the esplanade!

Downgrading to 2 stars. We’ve been here a handful of times since my first review and the bailey has gone downhill. The baked haddock has been very mushy and not fresh tasting and buttery like it was when we first dined here. The menu is ridiculous– they haven’t expanded it at all except for a few items. As someone mentioned, very lame. The past two visits were close to 6 months apart and both times, one of them being middle of summer, it was absolutely dead. We were the only table in the place and there were 4 people at the bar. That’s a worry if you ask me. Not sure how long the bailey will hold up with the new Haddads. The food here just isn’t up to par and you wonder how fresh it is with barely any business. I hate to see it go this way but it seems like it is, unfortunately. I don’t think we’ll be back :(

I wanted to like this place. but the barbecue pizza was disgusting and very greasy. the onion rings were good but nothing else was really worth coming back for.

Went there on a Saturday night with the family and the place was half full. Service was slow and the food was not very good. Haddock was bland, chowder seemed over microwaved hot etc… It was only the mid 30’s and heat is a problem in the window seats for some reason so everyone was wearing their jackets to eat. Go for beer and music, sit at the bar if you want service. Skip the food.

Do yourself a favor: Do go to the Bailey for the live music. Do go there for a couple drinks or to watch a game. They have wonderful big flat screen televisions. And do say hello to the owner. A VERY friendly man who really has his heart in the right place. But go across the esplanade to Haddad’s to eat before going to the Bailey, and don’t expect the staff to treat you well. It’s the townie mentality. They’ll take care of the locals(and I mean Marshfield local. You are not local enough if you live in Hingham and certainly not if you live in Weymouth). The food is pub food. Bland and overpriced. I’ll take it, if it weren’t for the attitudes from the servers. But definitely go there for the live music. It rocks!!!

The owner is as friendly and hospitable as possible. Haddock is so delicious that a 5 star Boston restaurant couldn’t compete!

I’m about to give up on the quest for exceptional food at places that call themselves Irish pubs. Like the search for the Holy Grail I think finding either are unattainable. As in many cases I’m lured in by the music, which this Thursday was incredible, Sugar Ray and Monster Mike were awesome as usual. For starters we ordered the onion rings, these showed promised lead me to believe the rest of the meal would be the same. The onion rings were fresh cut and battered, fried crispy. thumbs up for these. For entrees, from the menu I ordered the baked haddock with mashed and mixed veggies. To start fish has to be served hot… this was just warm. but to be honest didn’t show a lot of promise overall. The topping was mushy My wife couldn’t decide between the fish and chips and steak tips, went with the tips, choose the tips and was equally disappointed. Meat was chewy and stringy, BBQ sauce had an odd taste as well. Staff had a confused, sort of dazed attitude. Overall maybe good for a couple beers, but that’s pretty much it… That is except for the times they have music, good chance you’ll catch some incredible Blues from some of Boston’s and South Shore best blues-men…

I’m quite happy with this place. Their service is excellent and the beer selection is usually pretty good. The atmosphere is nice at night and the food(fairly typical English/Irish pub fare with some nice surprises) varies from very good to okay, depending on the choice. However, nothing will surprise you in a negative way here. I really enjoy the owner’s conversations when we’ve been there and we always go back. Live music is a big plus. It’s a nice spot!

Have dined at the Bailey several times. Usually get a burger or sandwiche. Tonight I got the baked haddock which is the house special. OMG! It was so delicious. Fish was as fresh as it gets, cooked to perfection. Wonderful home made real mashed potatoes and carrots that were prepared in a delicious glaze. Truly a gourmet meal with an authentic home made flavor. My dining partner ordered the fish and chips. Also delicious! Not overpriced. Very ample portions. Best deal is weeknights Monday through Thursday. Dine between 4 and 6 and you get two meals for the price of one. A great deal! Owner Bill Bailey takes a genuine interest in customer satisfaction. Come in as a stranger, leave as a friend.

the owner goes out of his way to be unfriendly. the food is ok but it is half the price across the street for the fish specials. freezing cold in the restaurant.

Great live music with excellent draft beer. Consistantly good food. The owner makes sure his customers are satisfied. Nice change to the out dated Brant Rock area.

I just enjoyed one of the best recent meals out, at a delightful Irish pub, right on the esplanade in Brant Rock. The Bailey(site of the former«Lobster Tale») is a very welcome addition to Marshfield, and especially to the beachy area of Brant Rock. The atmosphere is warm and casual, a perfect place to meet up with friends for drinks and a really good burger, or a nice night out with the family for real deal British fare(especially after a perfect day on the beach!). Even though the menu is not extensive, I still had the hardest time narrowing it down between the Fish & Chips and the Chicken Curry. The owner, Bill Bailey, told me that they keep their menu simple, and that all of the Irish dishes are really authentic.(He also mentioned that I had picked two of his favorites.) I was in a seafood mood, after inhaling that intoxicating sea air all day, so I opted for the Fish & Chips. It was delicious. Crispy, crunchy perfect coating covering the most tender, flaky Haddock. It really hit the spot.(Those yummy double-fried fries accompanied the fish.) Dan had one of the burgers, and I couldn’t get a word out of him while he devoured it.(He did mumble a barely decipherable«delicious» during the last few bites.) I really would be amiss not to mention the genuinely warm, kind, very talented owner, Bill.(Super talented… It’s Bill’s recipe for the chowder… Undeniably one of the BEST chowders I’ve had in my life. Super creamy, full of flavor, I’m not sure I can convey just how delicious it was. I can say that 1) I desperately wanted to lick the bowl, and 2) I have to convince the far too humble Bill to enter it in Chowderfests immediately!) He visits all of the tables, and instantly makes you feel as if you’ve known him for years. I just really loved the vibe of the Bailey, and we’ll certainly be coming here often.

Mixed feelings about The Bailey. Pros: This is probably the only bar I will go into in Brant Rock; the others are just outdated and not me. The owner walks around and makes you feel welcome. The beers on draft are great. The live music is always a plus. Cons: Looking out the window you see sand in the parking lot /street, and it’s hard to get into the Irish grove when you see that… The menu is limited, almost lame. With some improvements to the menu, I could see myself coming back.
