Seated at the very first table to the right of the door on Saturday night. They were decently busy and our server Jose didn’t come over for a couple minutes to take our drink orders. He was a little absent for most of the night, but was friendly and recommended a nice glass of wine to go with dinner. The caprese app came out thirty seconds before our entrees did, which Jose noted was a mistake. We told him that it would still be cold in ten minutes, however the piccata and spaghetti and meatballs would not be so we started on those instead. My glass of wine also arrived after the entrees were delivered. :( The meatballs were huge with lots of flavor, you get 3 to an order. My piccata which Jose mentioned was his favorite was severely lacking in capers, he had the kitchen bring me extra, but the sauce needed more lemon and in general was bland. Both pastas were cooked al dente, so at least there was that. Our caprese was fresh, and I would have loved to see a balsamic reduction drizzle, but it was good on its own. Portion sizes are big enough for two meals easily and Jose disappeared when we needed take out boxes. Prices reflect the lovely atmosphere and huge portions, food just left a little to be desired. Willing to try again.

I love everything about sauce: the service, the menu options, the atmosphere. This is my go-to place in McKinney! My favorite pizza in the world. I usually start with the Baked Fontina(IT’S A MUSTHAVE)! Its a bowl of melted cheese with buttery dipping bread. Their calamari is also awesome — they give you so much and they even have some battered olives in the mix. Unique & yummy! (Their salads aren’t my favorite but I do not want to take away from the rest of the amazing food)! If you order a pizza, you really can’t go wrong but I have the BEST«create your own» for you to try, I never get anything else: chipotle sauce, mozzarella, fontina, Italian sausage, pepperoni & bacon!(If you’re not a huge meat lover, omit the meat but definitely do the chipotle sauce, mozzarella & fontina!) I’ve never had a Sauce dessert because I am always so full by the end of the meal, but they sound delicious!

I’m going to write more, but to be brief for the impatient ones: delicious drinks and food, poor service. So I went here for a friends birthday party and was happy to be visiting the mckinney square where so many of my favorite places are. I had walked past this place a few times but had never gone inside, once I did I was SHOCKED by how big it is. It goes back forever, it’s so big the chef even has his own private garden space(kind of cool), there’s a full length bar at the back, tons of tables which are well spaced so you’re not crowded, and it’s very pretty. The drinks here are a little pricey(even the beers) but absolutely delicious, and since the bartender is a mixologist type everything seems to be made fresh. When we got there my friend had ordered a Spicy strawberry margarita which was delicious, so I requested one too! It has fresh ingredients and muddled/smashed jalapeño which made for a really yummy cocktail! Unfortunately, it took 20 minutes to get it. I noticed across our whole table that drinks were coming out in fits and spurts, and others waited 10 minutes or more just for a draft beer. A little crazy. On top of that we ordered a four cheese pizza, which took 50 minutes to arrive. I find this ridiculous. I know you pre-made the dough, just throw the ingredients on and toss it in the oven, 8 – 10 minutes later bring it to me. Why the hell it took this long I’ll never understand. ESPECIALLY because others at the table got their food at random times. The food was not delivered together(they actually completely forgot the birthday girl’s order of calamari and it didn’t arrive until they complained and we were trying to leave), and some of it was delivered wrong(2 different attempts to make the same salad). None of our food was complicated and shouldn’t have a) taken so long to come out, or b) not been delivered at least somewhat close to the same time? We had brought our one year old with us figuring with a pizza and some drinks we wouldn’t be there more than 30 – 40 minutes. Over an hour later we were begging for our check after we had scarfed down our pizza which took so long to arrive so we could get her to bed. Honestly, there are much better places on the square with a lot better service and more consistent food.

The atmosphere was very European and quaint however the food was not. Went for lunch, got ½ sandwich and salad combo; half of a meatball sub and caprese salad. Let’s start with the caprese: tomato, mozzarella, and basil all fresh HOWEVER there wasn’t any balsamic drizzle. I thought that was key? They brought olive oil and balsamic to the table so I drizzled my own. Next… meatball sub: honestly meatballs were kind of cold and marinara severely lacking in flavor. The service was really great and our server was super attentive! Kitchen just needs some work!

Visited for the first time last night. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good. We started with the bruschetta sampler and it was delicious. I highly recommend. The chicken Parmesan was ok. The spaghetti that came with it was more impressive. The chicken Gorgonzola pasta was fantastic though and I would get that again. Can’t wait to go back and try the pizza. Great Italian spot in McKinney.

Beautiful atmosphere! The food is very rich so it could be shared adding lighter sides! The Bellini is super! Great place for a romantic dinner if you want to stay local. Nice clean restrooms! The staff is nice but could be more knowledgeable on dishes!

I love Sauce! Sadly I found one dish that I love and I seem to never deviate. It’s the pasta dish with goat cheese and truffle oil. Love it! Took my parents here when they were in town and they loved it too.

The good: 1. Nice place and location. 2. Great staff and attention. The Situation: 1. Went just for dessert at lunch. 2. Took up a table of about 7. The Ugly: 1. Went for Chocolate bread pudding read about on Unilocal.Instead ordered 2 sticky(toffee I think?) that is basically bread pudding, a flourless cake and several cookies. 2. Cookies were cold(would have been much better warm) and tasted less than good(trying to be positive here — but they sucked). The flourless cake was good for 2 – 3 bites. Did not get finished. The sticky bread puddings were passed around and not finished either. Tasted like less than average bread pudding at best. So I loved the place, I loved the seating, I loved the service — but the food — eh, average ATBEST. I did not go for anything but dessert though. It is possible the meals are great. I don’t know — so I am only rating on what I experienced.

A friend held their wedding rehearsal dinner here on a Friday night, around 7:30PM. We took up nearly the whole right side wall, which is half booth, half chairs. The staff was well prepared for our group of around 30 guests, from toddlers to grandparents. They did an excellent job of getting drinks started and keeping them coming. We dined family style, staring with bruschetta for appetizer. It was delicious and fresh! Next up on the table came cesar salad. The salad could have used a bit more dressing but the fresh sourdough croutons were delicious! Following the greens were 2 heaping plates of spaghetti with meat sauce, topped with sliced up chicken parm! This was delicious but could have been a bit warmer temperature wise. It seemed as though it may have been sitting out for a little bit before making its way to our table. Along with this came giant bowls of penne pasta with a cream sauce. I think it was the Chicken Gorgonzola(penne, roasted pepper, walnut, grape, gorgonzola cream sauce) because I did taste one stray piece of chicken. I was one of the last to serve from this dish so I think that I missed a lot of the goods topping the bowl. Oh well, it was still yummy. Sliced bread was also served with our meal, but no butter ever made its way to the table. We had also been asked if we wanted fresh ground pepper and/or cheese for our pasta and I asked if they could offer that once we got the food onto our individual plates but they never came back with it. They also served dessert: bread pudding with Mexican Vanilla ice cream. The bread was somehow chocolate and the ice cream was somehow magical! I was not excited one bit about«bread pudding» but what they brought had me jumping off the walls! Do yourself a favor and try it! Overall: Service — 5 stars — excellent job of managing a big crowd during peak weekend dining Food — 4 stars — served family style. could have been heated more throughout Atmosphere — 4 stars

Tried Sauce on the Square for lunch during the long holiday weekend. It was not crowded the day after the 4th of July. Our large group of 14 people with 2 high chairs were seated almost immediately after some initial confusion with the number of people included in our party. However, after being seated, we had to wait for an additional 5 – 10 minutes before receiving menus. The server seemed very overwhelmed with how large our group was, even though the rest of the place was not busy at all. By the time she returned to take our drink orders, we were hungry enough to order everything at the same time. She then entered all the orders first before getting our drinks so we were all parched and thirsty by the time the drinks arrived. Speaking of overwhelmed, the server messed up several of our orders for 2 drinks and 2 entrees. My brother-in-law’s entrée had to be returned 3 times because of several mistakes since he has a gluten allergy and also does not eat pork. She also charged our appetizer to the wrong check. She was nice enough to remove the two entrees from the check due to the delay and mistakes. In regards to the food, Hubby and I shared a baked fontina appetizer which was very cheesy, greasy, and salty. He had the spaghetti and meatballs and the noodles were cooked al dente. I had the carbonara penna, which had a good amount of bacon in a very rich, creamy sauce; however, the penne was overcooked and too soft. Would not recommend returning as there are many other options available.

Went here for lunch, and I was impressed. I am a huge fan of pizza. and I love trying new places. I really liked the décor and I wish all the patio seating wasn’t taken up, when I got there, would have loved to sit out there and overlook the square. Now, on to the service. Ok, now it was lunchtime and it wasn’t busy at all, but service was a little slow. We sat there for an hour without getting a drink refill. And finally the food: I loved the pizza. I had the Texas sausage and thought it was cooked to perfection. It wasn’t overwhelming with sauce or cheese and every ingredient worked together. I love that the crust was thick and heavy under the toppings, but at the edge was fluffy and crispy, so it was like you got a hand-tossed and a thin crust together. I got the large, and I think it was $ 14. I only ate 2 slices for lunch, so I think you could definitely share a large. I feel like it’s a light meal, even though it is pizza. Great way to get a pizza fix without the greasiness of a box store.

I went here with my mom on a whim. I’m not super familiar with McKinney but this place looked nice, kind of faux-European on the outside. It turned out to be a great, convenient place to get some good food. Prices are fair and the the bruschetta sampler was great! I look forward to going back and trying out some different dishes.

The décor at Sauce is one of the few highlights of this establishment. Everything of our meal was bland and tasted like it was missing some key ingredient. My wife wanted to try something new for her birthday and selected this cute restaurant on the square. We were quickly seated and greeted by our waitress Paige. She was very friendly and one of the few highlights of the evening. After giving us some recommendations, we ordered the calamari to start. «A popular choice» Paige assured us. Then we would have the Caesar Salad and Fettuccine Alfredo. We we got the calamari, Paige mentioned that it also has some fried peperoncini mixed in. They were a nice surprise, but the calamari was just okay. If there were not the peperoncini the appetizer would not have much flavor at all. When we asked for some lemon, as the appetizer didn’t have any, Paige brought us one lemon slice. Like you would get on the rim of your tea glass. The lemon helped, but not much. When the salad arrived, it was huge… we had ordered the large. This would would easily serve four people. After a few bites, both my wife and I noticed something was missing. Oh, I know… Flavor. The dressing was lacking. The croutons were nice, crunchy, and not too overpowering, but in this case, it would have been a welcome addition. After a half a dozen bites, I just pushed my plate away. Okay, time for the main course. It’s Fettuccine Alfredo. This should be easy… Again, after a few bites, we both realized this was lacking too. My wife covered hers with crushed red peppers and I just picked at mine. When Paige came to ask about desert, we both kind of rolled our eyes, but it was my wife’s birthday. Looking at the menu, nothing really grabbed us, but I went with two cookies. When she brought the cookies, I almost started to laugh. «Birthday girl’s choice,» Paige said. «Choice of what?» I thought. These small, and I’m sure you could guess, bland cookies were nothing to fight over. And for a dollar a cookie, I want something that is at least half the size of the plate it’s served on. These weren’t. My wife had her cookie with a nice cup of hot tea as we enjoyed each others company. «The tea’s good.» my wife commented. I responded, «They didn’t make the tea…»

Sauce is my favorite new place to get pizza in McKinney! It’s got a lovely, upscale atmosphere, but reasonable prices(on the pizzas at least). Since it’s open pretty late we were able to take my husband’s hungry bandmates there after a concert, and were able to fill them all for around $ 60(not counting cocktails). Speaking of cocktails though, their strawberry basil mojito was outstanding! It sounds strange, but trust me, it tasted like a grownup sno cone. Fantastic! Back to the pizza, we got The Green, which had basil and lots of veggies and was amazing, and the Texas Sausage which had a bit of kick but not so much a wuss like me couldn’t handle it. To round out the order we went with a basic pepperoni and sausage. All were good, but my favorite was The Green.(I’m on a pesto kick thanks to Giada.) It was a great meal, in a great space… definitely a perfect spot for a romantic date night OR an evening out with friends.

I am writing this review as I devour the leftovers from yesterdays lunch at Sauce on the Square. Probably the best pizza I’ve had in awhile. I don’t know how I managed to keep myself from eating the whole thing at one sitting. Prosciutto gorganzola with Alfredo, grapes, spinach, and pine nuts. Holy cow, its delicious! The best part? It was just $ 7! My husband and I had a great lunch, each getting our own pizzas with enough to take home plus drinks for $ 18. That’s cheaper than Panera, people! The place only had a few patron so no wait for a table. All the dinners and pizzas are available for lunch size portions. The service was attentive. I also love that they didn’t pack in the tables so you bump elbows with the group sitting next to you. I’m reserving a star until I’ve been more than once but this will be our new favorite lunch spot. Definitely give it a try. You won’t be sorry.

This was our first time to eat here. The service was friendly and adequate. The food was really good, but with a couple of missteps. The chicken on the chicken picatta was burned around the edges. Solid black. After trimming the edges off, the rest of the chicken was good, not great., but had a good flavor. The menu says the Gorgonzola chicken contains walnuts, but none were found. Despite these 2 things, the rest of the dinner was very good. The green pizza was fantastic. Will return and give them a second try.

First things first… sit outside and enjoy the covered patio. Second thing… ask for Ryan Third it doesn’t seem you will go wrong with anything on the menu. The Texas Sausage pizza has a great flavor and a great kick. The bruschetta was a fresh way to start the meal and the caprese salad was a wonderful match to the pizza spice. This is a place to stop and grab a bite when in McKinney and not sure where to go.

We ambled over to this place after a stained glass class, because we’d seen the reviews on Unilocal. Our server was just wonderful; prompt, knowledgable and friendly. We decided to split a large sized pizza, the Texas Sausage, with an add of artichoke hearts. We also started with the baked fontina app, and oh, wow! It came out still bubbling in a little cast iron pan, smelling all garlicky and onion-y with this incredible bread already cut into chunks. What a combo-ooey-gooey cheesy and crunchy. Wonderful! The pizza arrived as soon as we’d finished the cheesy goo and were scraping up the remnants with the little bit of bread we had left. Enter the Texas Sausage… just enough, not too much, of all the toppings. The crust was thin but chewy and the sauce(hence the name) was kicked-up with extra herbs and spices. This isn’t your daddy’s pizza, this is pretty good! Will surely go back, and I know this because I made a point of getting a frequent Saucey card…
