Delicious each time! I get the bbq plate with pulled pork, beef brisket and some ribs. Best brisket I’ve had in Memphis to date! The sides are delicious as well. We had friends in town and they ordered the nachos… they were so amazing we had to have another order! Can’t wait to go back for more!

I was in Memphis and opted to check out some locals BBQ places. I ask for recommendations and was glad I did. This is a hole in the wall place with a lot of character. I went on a Thursday for dinner and was not disappointed. Has a brisket, rib platter with all the fixings. The meat was tender and the sauce was fantastic. I topped it with a Ghost River Beer.

We tried this place out based on the high Unilocal reviews. Only thing I can figure is we are used to well seasoned food since we are from Louisiana. The bbq was ok. Bland but ok. We liked the bbq nachos the best. Very large appetizer. Got the peppers on the side. Plenty of chopped pork with a mysterious white liquid cheese. The chopped onions and tomato balanced the very sweet bbq sauce. The sampler platter#2 was huge. 4 slices ofbrisket, about 1⁄3 # of pulled pork, 4 ribs and a quarter of a chicken. It also comes with two sides. Everything is covered in very sweet bbq sauce by default. I recommend asking for sauce on the side. The ribs were fall off the bone tender. I prefer them with a bit more tooth. The brisket was the best thing on it. Very good smoked flavor. The chicken was a little overdone. The waiter brought us fresh baked rolls so we made pork sandwiches with the pulled pork. Just ok. Hubby said the potato salad was average. I enjoyed the fresh mustard greens. They are cooked down southern style and decently seasoned. So it as ok and we were very hungry. So we ate it. Wouldn’t go back tho. The best thing there was the attentive service by our young waiter. He was endearingly award and nice.

If there is better barbecue in Memphis, then ignorance is bliss. We stopped here on the way to Thanksgiving because it was close to I-40 and had good ratings. Aaaand it was definitely the best pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever had, for a very good price. Perfect ratio of sauce to meat, and the sauce was soooo good. Bring a jacket if you visit in the winter.

We’ve been coming here for a few years now and they’ve stayed consistent with some good wholesome food. We come here for a lot for lunch and they never disappoint. They offer a good variety on their daily plate lunch from chicken fried steak to meatloaf and lots of good seasoned veggies to choose from. If a plate lunch doesn’t hit the spot the BBQ is pretty darn good as well. I’ve also had the steak special a few times and for the price it was a surprisingly good steak. Granted it’s not five star steakhouse good but it’s always cooked as ordered, tender and seasoned perfectly.

The pork was very good but my husband’s brisket had a weird coloring to it. He also said it was the worst he ever had. Some people around us were raving about the ribs though. Long story short: Don’t get the brisket.

Frozen fried pies, come on please! Warm on the outside frigid on the inside. I ate it anyway since I was still hungry after eating the little bit I ate. I told the waitress it is fine to store fried pies at room temp and not necessary to refrigerate. She apologized and said they were frozen. That explains why I waited so long for something that should be readily accessible. I don’t know where they buy their pies or how long they store them but they are so easy to make why do they feel it is ok to serve them cold? My lunch was not exactly cold but barely warm. Chicken dressing, mashed potatoes, and greens. It looked like a plate from the kids menu which is why I was still hungry in the first place. My first time there I remember ordering pork tenderloin. Of course I didn’t get a tenderloin. I got a couple of thin slices that may have made a sandwich. I remember leaving hungry that time too. There is not much to choose from on the menu depending on what day it is, you are only stuck with a couple choices. Everything appears premade in order to serve it quickly. This usually means hot fresh homemade and that kind of cooking you just can’t do yourself. Fat Larry’s just feels like boxes and cans and frozen foods and they make your plate and warm it in the microwave. I’m sure they do smoke some meats since I saw smoke but I’ll be willing to bet that they store the meats in the refrigerator and then reheat it. On a positive note the food was ok and I did eat it all. I was hungry. Just not too excited about the idea if going back. They do get points for cleanliness. Health department score is94. The staff was very friendly. I am now reading other reviews and noticing steak and ribs and fried pickles and everything else. How did I miss that? Is it only dinner? I’ve had lunch twice and only seen a very limited menu that was specials by the day of week. Not much of a choice really. As a matter of fact the three of us at our table had to share a single menu. How do they sell all the other food if it isn’t on the menu?

Just delicious. Super nice people, laid back atmosphere, and great food. Prices are awesome too. I often hesitate to buy steaks when out to eat. I’m decent with a barbecue and rock a cast iron skillet, so for the price of your average steak out to eat I can make something at least as good and twice the size. Larry’s ribeye knocked it out of the park. Well with the [extremely reasonable] price of admission. The brisket was great as well. Love the local atmosphere and lack of commercialization. I feel like you could easily become a regular here and get to know the staff well and that they’d be glad to see you each time.

Whenever I travel to different parts of the country, where they are known for their barbecue, I always do some research and try to find a little out-of-the-way local place that everybody goes to. Well Memphis Tennessee certainly fits the description of a locale known for its barbecue. Due to many circumstances I found myself in a hotel in this town. Soon Larry’s barbecue place was where I was guided to go by many of the locals. The menu is great and I decided to get a half slab of pork ribs with slaw and the beans. The ribs come either a dry rub, with sauce or a mixture of both. I opted for a dry rub with the sauce on the side and I’m glad I did. After a long 15 hour day of traveling it was a wonderful meal to finish things off with. This is your perfect neighborhood barbecue restaurant and I truly enjoyed it. It’s a casual place and the staff was friendly and fun I highly recommend stopping for some BBQ.

Best steak in the city. One of the favorite restaurants. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. From brisket, bbq, turkey ribs, fried green beans, and some of the greatest sides I’ve ever eaten. I can promise if you come here you feel like you’re at home. Don’t miss the chance to come here.

HANDSDOWNBESTBBQINMEMPHIS! I’m from North Carolina and every time I come to Memphis I have to come to fat larry’s. I’ve been to all the other chains and most the other BBQ places in Memphis and nothing compares to this place. Brisket is amazing, and ribs are to die for. You can’t even pick up the ribs by the bone because the meat literally falls off and hits the plate. You HAVE to use a fork. No matter if you are a local or just visiting this place is a must for BBQ.

Ribs just slid right off the bone. Dry rub is unique to Larry’s and DELICIOUS! Fried pickles were the best I’ve ever had and the service was top shelf. I’ll definitely be coming here again!

We followed some Unilocal reviews on out roadtrip from NJ to CA and we were not disappointed. This place was amazing! The sweet tea was the best I’ve had and then we had Fried Pickles, fried catfish, and a combo platter with brisket, ribs, and so many other delicious things! Plus the staff were super friendly and even Larry came to our table and introduced himself and wanted to know how we felt about our food. I am going to have to find an excuse to come back to Memphis to have this again! Thank you so much!

Haven’t had a great steak in a while. This is it. Go here rather than all those places n the strip/by the mall Every thing is worth it even the rolls. We fount this place because of a recommendation. It is a little out of the way but worth the drive.

From a drive by the place just looks like another bbq joint but it’s so much more! So glad we stopped in for delicious fried pickles and flavorful chicken and excellent steak! All around a good meal and good price point. Country feel type of atmosphere.

Fat Larrys is going to have me changing my name to Fat Unilocaler. It was that good. We had a party of 5, went at 8:40, and they were to close at 10. The service was great, and everyone was friendly except that one lady in the parking lot who wouldn’t move so I could get in the space. But in hindsight, she was probably so full she couldn’t walk fast. We ordered fried pickles, and yes, you should too. Between the five of us, we had a grilled cheese(kids), barbecue sampler, bologna sandwich, brisket plate, and barbecue nachos. Because I take pride in my reviews and NOT because I’m greedy, I tried everything. It was all good. You’re welcome. So, to conclude my review, I will say that if you like barbecue, or if you just want to taste a little Memphis flavor, go off the beaten path to Fat Larrys.
