Loved going to this place when I lived in the neighborhood. Friendly fun staff, decent food, and good drinks/martinis.

Nice little place with quiet, intimate setting. Mostly couples. Quaint bar. Good service. Food is pretty good. We just ate appetizers. Jerk chicken fingers were tasty, without being hot. The avocado dip was pretty standard fare, if you know my expression. Drinks were good and reasonably priced. The restaurant smelled good, so I reckon the main courses are pretty good as well.

Excellent food — had the buffalo chicken dip and didn’t really have room for a meal but ordered the steak medallions. Both were well flavored and robust. Had a Hawaii 3 – 0 martini, not really a martini drinker but this one was sweet and I ordered two. Only down side is the volume– it was VERY loud. People constantly yelling over one another.

Sooooo I was excited to try this place. Even though I had heard some sketchy things about it. So we went. When I walked in, everyone in the restaurant turned around to stare at my friend and I. We were wearing jeans and tops, nothing special. So I already knew from that point on, there was nothing going on here besides people watching. I had to literally grab the waitress to ask is it seat yourself to which she replied«uh huh». So outside we went. And we waited. And waited. Until finally this bubbly personality appeared and took our orders. She made recommendations and I ordered the Red Head Bitch and my friend had something called Sex with an Alligator I believe. They have an extensive cocktail menu and she said the prices range from $ 11-$ 14. The small martinis look like about a 4oz glass. Too small. The jumbo martini turns out to be just a regular martini glass with supposedly 4oz of alcohol. I doubt it. My cocktail was decent but it wasn’t worth $ 13. Also we ordered the buffalo tenders and somehow the buffalo nachos came out. They were pretty tasty but my friend was not having it. I can say now that I’ve been here but we probably won’t be back.

What looked to be a great find, ended in strong disappointment. Food was just ok. White wine for my wife was served in a hot/warm glass right out of the dishwasher. She specifically asked if the pasta dish could be made without mushrooms, only to have about a dozen in it after the server confirmed it could. When I asked if they had grinding pepper for the Caesar salad, another server pointed to the pepper shaker… which ironically was empty. Finally, I ordered the steak medallions with Béarnaise sauce… the steak was decent but the sauce was more along a hollandaise without tarragon. Her pasta was merely warm. Very friendly server and the restaurant was very clean.

A small café with quaint seating in the front was packed on Saturday night around 11-ish pm. The seating inside was almost at full capacity but was such a disappointment because it was loud and hot! We should have tried to sit outside because it was cooler and quieter. Décor: outdated yellow walls with a few small black and white photo on the walls of old Hollywood starlets, pinstriped curtains, outdated, mismatched bookshelves behind the bar with maroon fabric(about 2ft long) hanging from the ceiling that marked off the bar area — it reminded me of a hospital curtain that slides on a metal railing(bizarre). The vents on the ceiling were so filthy — They were covered with dark oily or furry gunk! The lighting was bright, so I definitely noticed. Service: Every waitresses hustled around quickly but none of them smiled or looked friendly or dressed professional, most wore jeans, shorts and a t-shirt or tank. We seated ourselves and ordered within five minutes of seating, but then waited at least 30 minutes for the food. Our waitress slammed our dishes and utensils down on the table every time she whirled by to the kitchen, then disappeared for a long time. Another waitress informed us they were out of a food item, so we’re re-ordered. Food: I ordered the smoked chicken nachos and BF ordered steak kabobs but they were out of steak and out of baked potatoes, so he opted for portobello chicken with sweet potato fries and a side salad. Chips were ordinary with liquid cheese drenching the layers but then there was some sweet, hot spice underneath(I think It was buffalo sauce). Chicken pieces were small and unremarkable, sour cream and jalapeños on the side. The underlying flavor was so sweet and spicy that I couldn’t continue eating. BF’s salad had torn lettuce, two large quarters of tomato on either side with three of the thickest slices of red onions I’ve seen on a salad. The portobello was very sweet and sour(balsamic?) and the chicken was ok. The sweet potato fries were the best thing and were sprinkled with cinnamon. We didn’t have Martinis, but maybe we should have so we could forget about this place… Disappointing.

I was going to side street before the renovations and long before I was old enough for one of their kick ass martinis. Side street is a great place to dine alone or meet friends for good food and cocktails. The wait staff is attentive and very friendly. If dining alone I promise you after a few martinis you will make a friend or two at the bar. They have amazing appetizers and it’s hard to choose just one so I suggest getting a few different things to try. I personally love the Memphis Fries and the egg rolls. I’m a midtown girl so take out from Side Street was always a must for me and when I did I usually got their Philly cheese steak and fries… omg soooo good and very filling. I love a good steak and Side Street definitely delivers the New York strip cooked medium is a great choice and I enjoy it with the creamed spinach. Really I could go on and on about how great this place is but I believe Unilocal has a limit on how long these things can be.

The place has great atmosphere. I went on a Tuesday evening. Relatively quiet. It was HOTT as a firecracker outside, so my party and I chose to sit indoors. Service was good. Pleasant waitress, attentive. I ordered from the bar, Chardonnay, my drink of choice. I ordered the Chicken Nachos as my entrée. My plate came quickly. I must say, I ordered the Nachos because it is something I would not order(typically) at any restaurant. The food was rather bland. Basically, pulled chicken covered in a Queso sauce scattered over tortillas with tomatoes, scallions. The chicken had(absolutely) no flavor to speak of. It tasted as if it had been poached without benefit of salt or pepper or any additional spices. It might have been poached in its own broth. When one orders Nachos, one expects some level of added spice or something that would give the dish some pizzazz… there was none. The only heat was that of the weather and the jalapenos served along side my nacho dish. It was my first visit to Memphis in 15years… and my first visit to Side Street Grill. Both were rather disappointing. I’m returning in a few weeks, maybe, I’ll give Side Street another go.

Usually have a good time here. But not this time. Apparently if your drink is gross you can’t have a different one. They can only«add» to it…

Decent little joint. I had the portabella burger which was great. Had a generous slice of smoked gouda on there. Probably would have given it a 5, but they didn’t have the artichoke dip that I wanted. Sounded good. Maybe next time!

Great little place off of Overton square. We parked in the ihop parking lot and walked over. I had the Cuban and hubby had the Portabella sandwich with Gouda. Cuban was great, but the best is the sweet potato fries. Tossed in cinnamon and sugar, they could be dessert. I didn’t have a martini since I’d drank a lot so far this weekend, but I’ll definitely be back to try some of the extensive martini list. Service was great and we had a couple of special requests.

I like the laidback atmosphere and great quiet outdoor seating. Inside it smells very smoky because the adjacent bar is open to the restaurant. Servers are very friendly and appropriately attentive. Ordered Salmon Picata to go while enjoying a nice Hob Nob Pinot Noir on the patio, listening to music from the Square’s 45th anniversary celebration. Hubs didn’t much like his top shelf margarita but sitting outside on a breezy Friday afternoon on quiet Florence St during happy hour is pretty sweet. Verdict — the Salmon Picata was a winner — salmon was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right — the accompaniment was so so so delicious and a fresh salad made a good size meal for a great price

This is one of my favorite restaurants! I’ve been coming here since ’06& I am never disappointed. I love the buffalo dip they’ve added to the appetizer menu. My favorite dish is the Side Street salad with grilled salmon and ranch dressing and an Apple martini.

I decided to stop by for brunch based on a very good recommendation and maybe my heightened expectations contributed to the low score, but that wasn’t entirely the problem. I ordered the steak and eggs Benedict and it was incredibly underwhelming, specially for the price.(Just over $ 16 when it was all said and done, no drinks.) I’ve definitely had much better eggs Benedict for much less but the steak didn’t help much either. The service was not terrible but a solid«meh» at best. Might still give this place another chance on a regular meal or a drink since it’s been around for so long.

Once again i have tried another place I really love. This was my first visit and the food and drinks were excellent. The really like the atmosphere if this bar. It wasn’t full of smoke and the music wasn’t over bearing. I recommend this place highly. We will be back.

One of my favorite local restaurant Memphis, Overton Square district! The chicken cordon blue and jambalaya was spectacular. Carrie, our waitress was at tentative to every detail. Timing of food was perfect. Casual dining and great atmosphere! Highly recommend to all visiting Memphis. Memphis does offer more than just barbecue!

This place is easily overlooked since it’s on a side street to Overton Square. Don’t be fooled though, just because it’s on a side street doesn’t make it any less deserving than the other fabulous places in The Square. This place well exceeded my expectations. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. It’s not a huge place, however they manage to feel intimate without feeling like you’re on top of other people. They have a fabulous bar and bartenders that are so awesome!!! Cocktails were well made and presented beautifully. Biggest surprise though was how outstanding the salads were. Huge portions, fresh veggies and meat seasoned beautifully! This place has their quality and customer service on point! I think the bar is the best spot there, so check it out along with one of their salads!

They have a truly kick ass black & bleu salad partnered with strong as hell martinis. These two facts keep me returning. Oh, and I like that it is midtown. I guess technically Overton Square… but farther back, quieter, away from«the scene» found at Local and Bar Louie… parking is easier to find here and the people are more laid back. This ain’t a fancy place but I always leave here with a buzz. And their food is definitely good. I truly love their bacon-wrapped filet and could sing a love song to their brie drizzled in honey served with apple slices(I skip the nuts). The martinis are a teensy bit on the expensive side… but trust me, they’ll knock you on your a**. I mean that in the best way possible. Surprisingly, the food is very well priced… especially those steaks. All in all, winner winner chicken dinner… errr, I mean steak.

Side Street is one of those places I rarely think about as an option for dining in Midtown. It is, after all, located on a side street and not easily visible from the cross streets of Madison or Union. We were looking for a place to enjoy a meal with a few friends before heading downtown for a party. I don’t know why Side Street entered my mind on this occasion, but I’m glad it did. We sat near the bar at a high-top table; no waiting. Our server was quick to get our drink orders and tell us about the specials. I’d say the menu is fancier than ‘casual’ but not quite fine dining either. You will not find nachos or chicken wings listed among the appetizer, but you will find bacon wrapped shrimp and grilled chicken skewers. They also serve salads, sandwiches, pasta, and entrees of pork, beef, chicken, and seafood. Two of my friends were sold on the special which was a pork loin entrée. They decided to share. My boyfriend ordered the New York Strip and he agreed to let me have a few bites. I ended up ordering the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer for my meal. We all ordered side salads. I had the house side salad which was actually pretty similar to the Cesar salad. Not very exciting but it was fresh and the dressing was good. The shrimp were awesome. I loved the spicy remoulade dipping sauce. The steak was also excellent. I didn’t try the pork dish but it looked tasty as well. We had great service on this evening which was definitely an improvement over a previous visit that I decided not to Unilocal about. I would love to come back once the weather warms up and sit on the patio.
