Love this place since they moved. I love the décor. For those of you that do not know, it’s open 24 hrs. The bartender Kat will definitely take care of you!

Saw Louis Prima Jr. and The Witnesses here after the first night of Jazz Fest. Was an incredible night! Great set up for music and cool little vintage-styled bar. The bartenders were very attentive. Mid-range prices for booze. This is one of those places where everyone seems to know everyone when they walk in the door. Even though I’m about 20 years younger than their typical clientele, I never felt out of place or unwelcome. I’m excited about going back and seeing The Yat Pack play.

There is a rapidly growing special place in my heart for this divey old school Metairie gem. I love the old timey Rat Pack, Elvis, and Marilyn Monroe tribute photos on the wall. They make a killer martini here, and I can enjoy sipping away while the band plays throw back songs ranging from the 1950’s-1960’s era. You absolutely WILL be the youngest person in here if you are anywhere below the age of 55 + in this joint. But hey, you got to give it to them, these regular patrons are nearly a hundred years old and they still got the dance moves! Literally, I saw a woman there with her oxygen tubes in her nose but that didn’t slow her down from enjoying her Irish Coffee one bit! It’s a delightful people watching event and I can’t wait to see some more bands play. I personally love that era of music and I’m glad I found a place so close by that caters to a more classic musical era. Now if only I could dance… If you are a young man, which basically means anywhere under 50 years old here, little old ladies WILL try to dance with you. My partner was nearly ravaged with attention from women old enough to be his grandmother. But hey, it’s all a good time if you join in! They are more than eager to teach your young self an old school dance trick or two! It is a BIT smokey in here. I usually can’t handle that sort of thing in excess but I will say it is not overly smokey, Or at least not so far that I’ve seen, and they do light lots of candles at the bar to keep it smelling better than usual. I say definitely give the Max a chance! They make a killer martini, and while the crowd will make you feel young, the music will simply make you feel classic. :-)

I am not to sure what to say here. I must have arrived on a «special» night. Let me say that me and my buddy were the only people under the age of 62 in this place. I’ll give those old folks credit though, they were dancing their plaid pants off. I mean really getting down with it. The guy in the motorized cart was even getting some action. The whole place had the aroma of the color red; I can’t really explain that. The band was playing on banjos and I respect that. There was a cover but it was only 5 dollars or as they asked for it a «shilling». However, that cover included a drink ticket so that is not so bad for a beer and entertainment. The bartender was super nice and even gave us koozies for our drinks. Maybe she thought we were children in retrospect. it did seem like a nice clean wholesome bar. I’ll see you in 30 years The Max The Good: Drink ticket came with cheap cover price long bar nice bartender The Bad: not what I expected old lady winked at me not a huge beer collection Much older Crowd The Ugly: The lights in this place hurt my eyes. I felt like someone stained my pupils red

I love this bar! This is an old timers bar(which I prefer). The Max has been around forever and it is known as the place to go to hear great live music. You will see on almost any night older couples dancing the night away on the dance floor whether there is a live band or just the jukebox playing. Think retro 80’s bar atmosphere with their red lighting and old wooden bars. The bar is open 24 hrs and they have 2-for-1 drinks everyday from 6am-6pm(how awesome is that?!!). The bar patrons here are all courteous and upbeat. One of the best nights to come is Sunday night when The Yat Pack is there. They are there every Sunday and they play incredible swing and big band music. I’ve been listening to big band music for almost 20 yrs now and it is great music… classic. Good bartenders, cheap drinks, great atmosphere, and awesome big band tunes! Now you know why The Max has been around so long!

Ladies, I can’t be the only one looking for places to go wearing my «Mad Men» clothes, right? You can totally rock that Betty Draper dress in this place and not feel weird. A lot of the men wear suits here! It’s so cute in a throwback way. Seeing older people dance and flirting with each other never gets old. Just go once on a Sunday night– you’ll see.

*cough* *cough* *cough* *hauck* *cough* *snort* *cough* That was me the next day from an evning at the max. And that’s even with the front door open all evening. The Max is one of those divey places where I used to be a regular to see my buddy Jerry Embree every week or so. Once a simple piano bar the max has morphed into a lounge atmosphere with couches surrounding the stage a second martini bar and less dance space than I remember. The main horseshoe bar remains as soon as you walk in the door with tables and video poker on the right and more tables, the stage and martini bar on the left. My only big complaint is the smoke. I get that it’s a bar and smoking is allowed and I can go elsewhere, so the Max won’t be a regular spot. Maybe if they went smoke free, or had a couple nights a month where they try no smoking like at Finn McCool’s I can see going more often. It’s a neat place and only a short drive within the Metrys. Sundays feature the Yat Pack, a swing ensemble with a Rat Pack vibe. Apparently one of my friends wants to do naughty things with Tim, but that’s outside the scope of the review. They were fun and it was fun watching them trying to drink from a stem glass at the end of the mic stand. Finally, one small complaint. somehow the staff overcharged My Favorite Vegan 50 cents. While 50 cents may not be much, if everyone overcharged 50 cents on every credit card transaction we’d be broke… well more broke. ** + * for the memories and the hopes they’ll try out that smoke free thing.

The Max is the home for The Yat Pack band(David Cook, Tim Shirah and other musicians). They sound like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. You can listen and dance to the music. David Cook and Tim Shirah are great entertainers! You’ll have so much fun at their show at The Max. The Yat Pack plays on Sundays at 9:00PM.

«Open 24 Hours» You know what, Vince. I can’t remember either of the Owner’s names, but wasn’t the birthday girl named PJ? Or something. hmm. But, they were great, nice awesome people. We shot a few scenes for a movie there back in January. Nice sized neighborhood bar, slot machines, a great jukebox, the owner has some albums on it, he’s an excellent singer in a Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra kinda way. They play darts in this bar, there are no pool tables. Theres a stage, plenty of tables and a nice large U-Shaped bar. Since we worked there all day, everyday for like a week it’s hard to have a regular, customers perception of the place. The first time I walked in was for my Tech Scout and the place was packed, there was a live band playing in a Vegas Loungey kinda way. It was mostly a silver hair type place(–1) but the owners assured us that a few people under 50 do come in. The patrons that were there were so nice. They’d watch us shoot, while waiting to come in for their libations. One lady was so happy and tearfully thanked us for coming there to shoot. There, being New Orleans, she said it was good to not be forgotten after Katrina. It was a very heartfelt moment and I personally had tears in my eyes. Here’s a link to some pics of The Max during filming:
