Worst place ever. The food was bland. Our server was clueless and at the end of the night he mixed up our tickets with someone else. Expensive and so not worth it.

It had been some time since I was last at Cattle Baron but went recently. Some of the problem areas I noticed years ago had been corrected… the booth upholstery and carpets were in good shape and the salad greens were fresh(both problems at my last visit). I had a club steak and it was very tender and well-seasoned. Baked potato and salad was good as well. My only complaint was that the service was not as attentive as it could have been although the waitress was polite.

Took my wife to Cattle Baron’s for a Friday night out. Was not expecting what we got. Even on a very busy Friday the food was exceptional! I had the Chicken Fried Steak and normally any time I get one it’s a lower cut of meat smothered in breading that I have to peal off and often full of gristle. Not this time the meat was an excellent cut and the gravy and mashed potatoes were perfect. My wife had the filet which I had a couple of bites to savor and it was delicious! A perfect firm, grainy wonderful tasting cut of beef cooked to exact and perfect specifications. All around a great meal!

I usually came here with a group of people, or a few times just one other person. I thought the service was always great, the bathrooms well-kept(& multi-stalled, so you didn’t have to wait in line outside just to wash your hands). The atmosphere was also nice, I don’t think it was too noisy or too crowded most of the time. I usually enjoyed the variety of food at the buffet(or salad bar). I would order that, rather than anything else I had to wait for. The plate for the salad bar was always big enough, & sometimes they also had great soups. I think it was the price that kept me from eating here more often, but the food was great!

Mediocre food, and I suspect they got busted by TABC, as everyone gets carded there and the youngest in our party was pushing 50. We were a business party and ordered a couple of bottles of wine. The waitress had the manager card us again for good measure. One person in our party was a little annoyed with this as he had to get his ID from that car. The barkeeper ended up waiting on us, and she was personable. The food was nothing to get excited about and my impression was that this place has seen better days. I have not had luck finding good places to eat in Midland.

Well where should I start? We walked in and the floors were really dirty. Then we had a gentleman come and say he would help us because our server was tied up. So we ordered our drinks and waited. We got our drinks and he said our server would be right with us. So 20 minutes went by and we didn’t get anyone. So we left money on the table for the drinks and went to Wall St. Not a good first impression.

TERRIBLESERVICE. The bartender working dec 24th night shift was theeee worst… We sat at the bar which was not pre bussed what so ever, didnt even greet us. All she did was look at us and ask for our ids. We got them out and i was turned down cause my id was long ways and not horizontal… The dumbest thing ive ever heard but ok. We wont be returning to this location. The el paso and ruidoso location are the best.

I have been here more than I have checked in. I actually came here earlier in the year before I started Unilocaling. I was introduced to this place from a person from church. It’s a steak and seafood restaurant. But everyone I’ve ever told I went there, talks about their steaks. They also reminded me of how nice and fancy it looks. The wood work. Yes it looks like a lodge inside. Not a cabin. Very eloquently done. The bar area has a couple of stuffed animals. Not big game. Just a little feel of the out doors. First time I came here I only had their salad bar. I wasn’t that hungry. But I saw all the food coming out. and I was impressed. Don’t get me wrong the salad bar is enough to fill you over and over. It’s a salad and soup bar with some desserts. The soups change often as I have noticed. And they have 2 different types of block cheese to slice on your own. Very dangerous for cheese lovers. You can actually cut 1 inch slabs of cheese. Don’t tell me you wouldn’t do it. You can go back as much as you want. When you order an entrée you automatically get the salad bar. It’s a good start. But don’t over do it. You need to leave room for your meal. The meals are generous. They are hand cut meats and they will actually cut you a bigger cut if you ask. The workers are like family here. It looks like most have been here for a while together. I just recently found out this place is a chain. I didn’t know it was. I was shocked to learn that. Due to the way they act. I actually came here on Saturday evening. I had gone to a different steak place. But It was packed and when I went to the restroom, my seat was taken by an elderly woman. After I was asked about being a gentleman. I agreed on letting her stay in the seat. Soon after I left and came here. At first arriving I thought great another packed steak house. I walked in and the restaurant was full but there was tables open in the bar/lounge area. I walked over and found no one sitting at the bar. The tv’s are on and college football on 3 different channels. Ok I was good stay. I ordered a Bass. A great choice to look over the menu. I was now in decision mode. I chose the 10 oz sirloin medium rare. I chose a sweet potato to pair it with. I started with the salad bar and a cup of Posole soup. I was enjoying it when all of a sudden my food had come out. I let it sit there as I ate my salad. I finished my soup and told the bartender what had happened. They told me that they would make me another one. I told them since I had ordered it medium rare. They could just put it on the grill for a minute on each side. Well they agreed to do it. They really just wanted to make another. Really appreciated that. Within mins it was back. It wasn’t over cooked and it was still a bit rare. It was warm and it taste great. Still juices coming out and it didn’t lose any flavor. They told me that they watched it very cautiously. I knew they had put it in the microwave. It had new grill marks. They even got me a new sweet potato. I was impressed. I ate my steak and my sweet potato. I watched football until they closed. I will be back again soon. They even told me about their lunch pastrami sandwich. Can’t wait for that.

Great lunch selection, but don’t bother for supper. Only salad options are Caesar salad or salad bar which has a plethora of pasta salads and then lettuce, tomatoes, spinach and 8 different salad dressings. No ham, no turkey, no avocados, no blue cheese. If you want those items you need to order a Cobb Salad, which evidently is a lunch ONLY item these days. So if you’re trying it out: come for lunch when you can actually get the food you came for.

This was one of the worst places I’ve been in awhile. Had I been alone and not with a group of people I would have left. 1. They ID everyone for Alcohol. Whether your 21 or 51 you will be asked to show ID… It was embarrassing. 2. Salad Bar was just OK. Best thing about the meal. 3. Appetizers were small and gross(Microwaved). We had Potato skins. 4. My Steak(If you can actually call it steak) was overcooked and just did not look or taste appetizing. It reminded me of the Old Ponderosa restaurants where all the steaks were a ¼ of an inch thick. 5. Waitress never checked in on us after we got our food. Took forever to get refills on drinks. 6. Beer Selection was Terrible.

We visited Cattle Baron on a Sunday evening in search for a good salad bar in town, even if I coat it in ranch dressing, this place rang a bell. Cattle Baron is best known for it’s Steaks, Prime Rib, Salad Bar and Seafood, a very unique restaurant in Midland, my review goes as follows… First of all the service, our hostess quickly seated us during the dinner hour. Our waitress was very attentive, quickly refilled our sweet tea and accurately took our order. Overall she was very friendly, courteous and attentive, it made for excellent customer service which by the way is hard to find in Midland. Secondly the food, the salad bar was very fresh, was lacking the usual watermelon and sweet bread they usually offer otherwise fresh lettuce and toppings, very clean. They serve complimentary warm bread, very delicious best served with salad. Now for the entrée, unfortunately the menu here recently changed and no longer offers the«Captains Platter» which included fish, fried scallops, shrimp and a crab cake, it was a great seafood sampler, now my favorite dish is no more, so I ordered the fried catfish. The catfish was rather crispy and good, a little dry, served with a generous portion of baked potato, almost the size of a whole spud! OVERALL, GREATFOOD, SERVICE, SALAD, ONEOFMYFAVORITERESTAURANT’S INMIDLAND!!! A little pricey like Red Lobster but the food and service is worth it!

We have been here many times over years. Sometimes awesome sometimes just ok. Hands down they have the best salad bar selection. Steaks have always been hit or miss but they always tried to make it right if it was not. On this visit the prime rib was very well done and spinach artichoke dip was very good. They have great lunch promos and early dining options as well. Will be back.

We have been here before but not for a while. The only bad experience we had was at the bar. The bartender would disappear for chunks of time. We could have easily left without paying multiple times. We were waiting to go to our table and we couldn’t pay because she wasn’t there. We had an excellent waiter. The food was top notch. It’s a little pricey but it’s worth it. Probably up there with Wall St for best steak in town.

Loved eating here. Fantastic salad bar and great service. Chicken fried steak was excellent. My wife had a sirloin that was grilled just right. I would eat here again. I also would recommend it to anyone. This was our anniversary dinner.

The crab was market value of $ 42. It was brought out limp and rubbery, And all were already cracked and /or broken. We complained because it just tasted off. They brought a second plate that was exactly the same, so we told them the same problem. They simply brought us our bill, nothing free and no discount. Also, my daughter ordered a steak off the kids menu. She enjoyed it but I could see for myself it was well overlooked and FAR from the ny strip they claimed it to be. Not near as big a deal as the crab was though. I got chicken fried steak and must admit it was ok. Also, the salad bar was awesome as always. We asked the waiter what was up with the crab. He admitted it was frozen and in pieces(not full legs like everywhere else) and delivered only occasionally in boxes. How is it fair to pay MARKET value for FISHSTICKQUALITY? Never again unless only for salad.

When a self proclaimed Steak House can’t cook a steak medium rare, there is a serious problem. My fiancé’s ribeye was well done and was about the thickness of a DVD case. I ordered the chicken fried steak which was alright, but not memorable in anyway. We both had to add a little bit of salt to our dishes. The salad bar was the best part of this restaurant, despite having tomatoes that weren’t fresh. Although my chicken fried steak was decent, when a restaurant can’t mangage to cook a food item thats in its name correctly, I can’t give it a positive review.

We have gone here many times just to eat at the amazing salad bar. Just recently, we went to have crab legs and prime rib. It was EXCELLENT. Our steaks were seasoned and cooked just the way we like them(RARE). The crabs legs were succulent and the prices were decent for the fare we ordered. We will be frequenting this place more often.

Eh, not bad, but definitely not a «steak» house. My husband ordered his steak medium rare and it came cooked well done on one side and rare on the other. Clearly it got left on one side too long. My burger was pretty tasty although much to large to eat all in one setting. We went on a Saturday evening and the place was dead, I think it’s more of a lunch spot. We stood around waiting to be seated longer than was comfortable and almost left. Our server was very friendly but kept telling us stories about her son, we didn’t have any kids with us and it was clearly kind of a date, we weren’t really interested at all, just wanted to order. I ordered a glass of their nicer Pino Noir and it tasted like salad dressing vinegar. Probably my fault for ordering wrong. The salad bar is nicely stocked and appears clean. Probably won’t go back, maybe for lunch.
