Where my husband & I went on our first date. We’ve been back several times since. Wonderful food & ambience!!!

I recently had lunch at the Garlic Press and the food was very good… bread with real butter as an appetizer although I didn’t notice any garlic served. The soup was a mushroom and onion soup in beef broth and though mushrooms aren’t my favorite, whatever type they used tasted quite good to me. For my main course I got the chicken meatballs with pasta, and the noodles, tomato sauce and meatballs all tasted fresh and with good flavor, not pre-packaged or canned. The dish has four large meatballs, fettuccine and sauce with melted cheese on top. For dessert I had a Tiramisu-flavored pudding and some coffee and both were good. My friends enjoyed the Brazilian shrimp dish too. The atmosphere was maybe more fancy than I am comfortable with though… people were wearing suit jackets & ties at lunch and I felt a little out of place. Also the layout of the restaurant was a little unusual and the lighting was somewhat dim. The service was good though.

This is a nice small upscale place. I went here for dinner and had some of the best pasta in Midland. Our server was really great she was fast at getting whatever we asked for especially more of their yummy bread with garlic and butter. I got the chicken romano pasta and it was delish! I would have liked a bit more penne on my dish. It came with 2 big pieces of chicken that was really juicy and tender. My friend got the jalapeño shrimp and it was slightly on the salty side. I really liked this place! Highly recommend to try.

The Garlic Press is a nice restaurant for this area. The steak with garlic butter is amazing and cooked to perfection.

Best place in Midland to have a meal. Upscale, but not pretentious. The escargot is fantastic! Evander was great!

This place can be pricey, but worth it for the special occasion. They have hand down the best steak in town. I recommend the lobster truffle butter topping.

Pleasant ambience, pleasant clientele, and the waiting staff tries very hard. The Garlic Press feels like a 10 Star experience; for sure when you’re dying for a visit back to an inkling of civilization while you’re stuck in Pecos, TX on extended business. Went there last night for the first time, spent $ 150 plus tip on dinner for 2 and had a fun time. Diversified wine list!!! The 2011 California Cab for $ 68 we picked out was a nice choice. Real worrisome right off the bat was only the unwelcoming Caucasian woman at the reception desk: After a scanty greeting she looked up our reservation and took us to our table, all without ever smiling once. Service: Timely and accommodating. Our waiter was very friendly and not intrusive, but hard working; though with a very intense, «in your face» type personality — not really waiter material and a little irritating at first. But we learned to deal with it with a smile after were able to recognize his great efforts thoughout our dinner. Appetizers: The Mandarin Salad came with canned mandarin slices and without the promised candied almonds, but the greens tasted fresh and crisp. Our cream soup was topped with a wonderful, flaky pastry and comparable to a yummy clam chowder, only without the clam taste. Main courses: The ribeye with roasted garlic herb butter was excellent. The veal, while floating in a sea of what tasted like artificial package sauce, was still quite enjoyable in it’s own«sweet!» way. The green beans … uhm, nawww, wasn’t feeling the texture nor the taste. Dessert: Instead of something sweet we decided on the cheese plate appetizer. It came with 2 different(tasty but uneventful) types of cheeses. Went quite well with the wine. We’ll definitely be back! P. S. Ladies, you might want to bring a jacket, it’s VERY chilly inside.

A fantastic local«nice & fancy» restaurant, located in a convenient shopping center at the bustling Wadley & Garfield intersection. It’s higher-end, price-wise, but the food is delicious. It’s great for business meetings & special occasions as well. They sometimes even still give bread as an appetizer, along with garlic cloves that you can press yourself(hence the restaurant name) & use it as a spread. They also have some great salads & pastas(for a vegetarian-friendly option, let the server know so that you can get it without the proscuitto).

Ate here a few years back with BF for Valentines night. Service was bad, food was bad and when we complained to woman at front desk who identified herself as manager as we left, she could have cared less. We told her my BF owned a restaurant himself and was a good chef himself and she just laughed. Swore I would never go back and I haven’t. For nearly $ 100 for 2 dinners, no appetizers and 2 glasses of mediocre wine, it was a terrible experience.

Have eaten ate this restaurant 2 times. Wait staff was extremely snooty and rude. Food was wonderful but the staff is lacking!

I had the chicken Romano, the Gorgonzola mushroom sauce was delicious and the chicken was tender and juicy. The dish comes on top of plain penne, I didn’t care much for the pasta, there was enough sauce on the chicken for the chicken but not enough for the pasta. The atmosphere was one of the nicest ones I’ve seen in Midland but my 3 stars really comes down to service. The server was not very attentive and was kind of snobby. I’d come back for the food, I’ve heard the steak and the Brazilian shrimp are both must tries but don’t expect great service.

The food was really good, I had the shrimp and pasta with artichoke hearts which was filled with flavor. I also really enjoyed their pozole soup and the olive oil for dipping was also very flavorful and had a little kick. The service was about average. Everyone in our party enjoyed their food thoroughly

I’m a first timer at The Garlic Press. The actual restaurant is cute and small and has nice accents, like a ceiling made out of wine corks. My server was friendly and attentive, but not too clingy. He gave his honest opinion about the dishes and explained why, which was helpful with my ordering. Bread plate: warm homemade bread served with a whole garlic roasted and a press for you to press the garlic and spread into your bread. I LOVE garlic, so this made me quite happy Appetizer: Based on the picture of a fellow reviewer, I ordered the crawfish on a puff pastry. I love all seafood for the most part, and puff pastry, but this dish left me unpleased. It was edible, but something was off to me. I enjoyed the puff pastry much more than the crawfish topping. Dinner: I ordered the potato crusted flounder and exchanged the rice for a risotto cake. The dish also comes with green beans. The green beans were quite bland. The flounder was fine. The best thing on the plate was the risotto cake and that didn’t actually come with the meal as planned. Stars: I wish I could have given 2.5 stars, but since I couldn’t I rounded up based on the service, risotto cakes, and the bread plate.

Really good place to go on dates to, makes you escape from the Odessa/Midland oil world and make you feel like somewhere else which is a nice little escape.

Took wife and friends there for dinner mid-January. Appetizer of goat cheese and salads were good; however, her stew was very salty while my jalapeño shrimp and pasta was good but overpriced. I don’t mind paying for a good meal and ambiance, but for a place with a high reputation I was overall disappointed. Wanted to like this.

The reviews on this place are hilarious. If you are from Austin, Dallas, etc., yeah we get it, you have a plethora of awesome restaurants that blow everything in Midland out of the water. To you, sure, this is a 3 star restaurant. But for Midland, this place gets 4 stars from me. One of the better steaks in town and the service has always been top notch. Take a date here, order a bottle of wine, and chill the heck out on your Unilocal review.

I must congratulate with the manager or who else forgot to contact people who had a reservation, that the restaurant would have been closed this past new years Eve. Drove on the ice just to taste the fresh fish they supposed to have… Good guy Saltgrass steakhouse saved our night. I booked the day before, when the road was in worst condition and they took the reservation without problems. The food is good but slight overpriced, Good selection of wines. Service can be better considering the price you pay, you wait for the waiter way too much. Not enough parking spots, there are too many bars and restaurant in the area and the parking is pretty packed, there is always someone in pizza hut that push away people that park near there.

This place is great for the area, perhaps among the best restaurants here. But if you’ve been outside west Texas it won’t fare quite as well. Atmosphere, greeting and service were all good, nice friendly staff. Very clean place. Complimentary bread and butter with roasted garlic was nice, but I feel like the bread crust was way too hard and we had to cut it with our butter knives since apparently they don’t provide you with actual knives, even for steaks as we would soon find out. The meatball appetizer was good but it might have been delicious if it was served hot. We got it lukewarmish. The wedge salad is very good, the dressing is chunky(but not too chunky) and delicious. I opted for the chicken romano pasta dish. I was really let down by the chicken. Rather than a freshly trimmed and breaded breast, it was a pre-made chicken pattie. You would think that for the pricey menu, they could be bothered to serve fresh chicken on their only pasta dish. The sauce was good and the pasta was cooked al dente(thank god, everyone around here likes their pasta as mush, meaning it’s the default way other restaurants serve pasta) but was rather plain tasting. I feel like it would be better as whole wheat/grain. For dessert was the icebox, it was excellent, no complaints on dessert! I will definitely be back, just not that often and I’ll go for a steak.

I was not impressed. This place received such great reviews and the menu sounded excellent, so I was really looking forward to it. The restaurant is nice and our server was very friendly and attentive, but that’s about all. The patrons were extremely pretentious, and being from Austin, that says a lot. It felt like everyone was trying too hard to be important and pretend they were rich. The food was bland. It’s more on the expensive side, but again, being from Austin it’s what I would expect from a higher end restaurant at home. So all things considered, the prices were fair. And the portions were decent for the prices paid… enough to fill a person up. Unfortunately, the food was bland and completely under-seasoned. I had soup and a salad and my coworker had the antelope tacos. We both had to add a lot of salt just to give the food some taste. The only high point was that bread was served with the meal that came with a roasted bunch of garlic to use as a spread… that was tasty. All in all, if you’re ever in Midland, I would skip this place. There appear to be plenty of other places to choose from… probably with better tasting food and a less pretentious clientele.

My friends who live in Midland brought me here while visiting from Virginia. Our waitress was very clipped and polite — almost overly so to the point she seemed somewhat snobbish. This is one of the more upscale restaurants in Midland from what I can tell and I’ve been told and they make sure you are aware of it. Prices weren’t terrible but they weren’t low either. An 8oz. tenderloin would run you around $ 35 with a wedge salad(which was HUGE) costing around $ 8. I ordered the seared grouper with rice and a cucumber and black bean and corn salsa on top of it. It was good but not amazingly so. The best part of the meal for me was the bread for which the restaurant derives it’s name — a large loaf of sliced bread with whipped butter and a press you put what looks like roasted garlic cloves into so when you squeeze it you get a garlic paste to put on your bread. It was very tasty. I ordered crème brûlée(my favorite) for dessert and it was a very very small serving with blueberries with the stem still on them on top. The crème brûlée crust on top was overdone and too crunchy and the cream inside was too runny. Not the best I’ve ever had. This was a nice place but I wasn’t blown away by it.
