We’ve come here a few times to give them extra chances. The food is so bland. Not authentic Mexican at ALL. The cheese dip is literally melted cheese. Nothing in it. A few items that would come with lettuce tomato etc at other places don’t come with them here. What else? Oh! Slow service guaranteed. We won’t be back.

Worst Mexican food I have ever had in Richmond. Not only was food order wrong, they came back with my originally ordered food which had been doctored up to look like a new order. Tamale was uncooked and gooey. Only ate the meat out of one. When advised waitress and manager, the manager said he is going to charge for 1 tamale. What kind of customer service is that? I normally like Plaza Azteca but will not be at this one again.

We ate here 11÷1÷13 for dinner. The service was great. Our server, Gloria was attentive but didn’t hover(we like that). The food was excellent! Husband had Fajitas with mixed meat(not sure what it was called — chicken, steak, sausage). He really enjoyed it. Huge portion along with a plate of rice, beans, shredded cheese and sour cream. I had the Quesadilla Ranchera, LOVED it. They are very large portions. Enough that I took more than half home for another meal(just so happens it was breakfast, don’t judge me). We will definitely return soon.

Having eaten at Plaza Azteca closer to our home in North Carolina, when our grandson wanted Mexican for his birthday, we decided to try this location. The first disappointment was the chips; they were horrible, having been fried in rancid oil. My margarita was pretty much a glass of mixer; couldn’t even taste the tequila. I ordered the«sizzling» chicken fajitas, which arrived barely warm and definitely not sizzling, with no seasoning on the meat at all. After a hefty douse of hot sauce they were better, but still nothing special. Fortunately my grandson seemed to enjoy his meal, so we didn’t say anything. The service was fine, but the food left much to be desired. We won’t be back.

Rip off! Not authentic Mexican! Will never eat here again! I am from Chicago and know what authentic Mexican food should taste like! My seafood chimichanga was served with crab soup on top not inside the fried tortillas. I have never been to a restaurant that would charge $ 11.25 for two steak tacos! I was told by management that they did not have the capability to charge individually for the tacos!!! Stay away from this impression of Mexican dining. Pouring cheese sauce on top of everything does not make it Mexican!

The best thing is place had going is the guacamole. It is soooooo good, and super fresh since they make it right in front of you. That’s where it starts and ends though, unfortunately. The food is overpriced and mediocre. Burgers are pretty good. Margaritas are a joke! They cost $ 10 and barely have any alcohol. We may go back for the guac and burgers, but that’s it. Maybe I’ll try a dessert next time, that may be better.

We’ve come here several times and the food has always been great. Only once has the service been lackluster. They just took forever to check on drinks even though the place was empty. Today’s trip and the 3 other times, there were no issues. Can confirm the fish tacos, seafood chimichangas and enchiladas san Miguel are pretty darn good.

Food was really good… service was horrible… we sat on the patio on a Sunday afternoon so maybe that had something to do with it. out of sight out of mind maybe? I had a jumbo margarita and if it had any tequila in it I certainly couldn’t taste it & for $ 9.99 I expect something! My friends each had a jumbo margarita also and we all agree… there was no alcohol. I had steak quesadilla… It was very good. I loved the small salad that came with it. If the server would of checked on us at any time I would of asked for another napkin as I had used mine to clean up my friends spilled drink. As many people as I seen working there you would think service would be better.

We visited one week day evening to use our Groupon voucher. I knew it expired but read the small print which stated the amount paid for the groupon will never expire. Hence thinking they were going to accept my $ 12 voucher. Not so much. They were quite rude about the situation and didn’t explain anything. I showed them the voucher and they said their contract with groupon had expired. What ever that means??? On top of it the food and margarita were sub-par. I won’t be rushing back to this restaurant in the near future.

I stopped in here for Friday date night with my bf and was plesantly surprised at the renovations done to this spot(previously Uno’s). Styled very much tex-mex style décor, we got a spot by the bar(that seems more like a sports bar with the tv’s than a family style eatery– sadly, not what I had in mind). However, my optimism grew as we placed our orders — usual combos of most places of this genre of food but a few surprising extras in the speciality dishes. We also ordered the drink special of the night(tequilla sunrises) with our meal and we were quite happy that the bartender that night was not giving us a glass full of the mixer– evenly poured for a great drink. Our server was very kind and quite prompt. We saw him quite a bit and had no trouble getting a hold of him throughout the night. He was always there with a smile to ask if we needed anything else and was quick about getting anything we had asked for. Even our dinner came rather quickly. We did not order dessert– since we were so full, so grab-n-go boxes and out we went. Leftoverse even heated up quite well to make our dinner a great lunch option the next day– as the portions here are very gracious, even with the low price.

The only reason I came to this location is because I bought a Groupon thinking it was for the much closer Broad St. location. But the service was sporadic, the guac is nowhere near as good, and the staff hangs out where customers can see them socializing and playing on their cell phones. Its much brighter lit and the décor isn’t nearly as fun as the other location. I would recommend if anyone wants a great Plaza Azteca experience — go to the Broad Street location. You will thank me!

I just had to add this new location of a restaurant we know from other locations. Very pleased to see a new site of this Virginia-based chain. It is in a renovated restaurant building that used to be an Uno’s, the Italian décor can still be seen but was updated to heavier classic Mexican chairs, tables, lighting and was nice. They still have lots of booths available for comfort seating. The menu has the usual combos availble, but be sure to go through the speciality/enchilada and burrito plates before choosing. We saw lots of interesting variations in the usual choices — we go for Mexican dinner at least every couple weeks. I had the Enchiladas Rancheras, creamy cheese filled the enchaladas smothered on top with shredded roasted pork, onion, and peppers. My husband’s burrito was overstuffed with pork pibil and black beans, out of the ordinary and great. His chile relleno was huge and simply filled with cheese, they use a firmer cheese than the runny white melting cheese that just runs all over the plate that we see lots of other places. My rocks margarita was tangy and strong. Service — very good, our waiter was a little soft spoken but stopped by often, and I saw many other servers ready to work, even maybe too many but this could be because it is so new and they have extra help on hand. Total bill for 2 people with drinks before tip was $ 31. We just went for dinner 3 nights ago and my husband has already gone back today for a lunch and for another relleno.
