«I don’t do Mexican food.» I also don’t do Chinese food. I came here to celebrate my niece making honor roll, so we had a semi-large party(seven). And I have to give props to the waiter for not laughing at me for eating an appetizer as an entrée. I kept it simple with a cheese quesadilla.(In all fairness to myself, my meal was more authentic than the chicken nuggets my niece got). ;-) Everyone at the table got a different entrée, and despite my food phobia, they were all presented quite well and everyone enjoyed their meals. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a bit cheesy and would appeal to children. Although don’t confuse this with a children’s restaurant. It’s very family oriented.

My favorite departure from my Anti-Chain Restaurants. Incredible salsa and chips. I love that they say they are a «Tex-Mex Grill,» versus«Mexican. Honesty. Whoever comes up with some of their specials is a sorcerer, but in the great Harry Potter kind of way. You see, someone decided it was a fine idea to take a poblano chile, stuff it with Al Pastor style pork, wrap in… excuse me as I genuflect… BACON! (Insert stadium level applause). Yes to the Chuy’s sorcerers and domo arigato, gracias, thank you, and dhanke!

There’s Tex-Mex and Mexican food. Chuy’s is both while leaning towards Tex-Mex. being from New Mexico, I know authentic Mexican food and having lived in Texas, I also know Tex-Mex. Chuy’s is the best Mexican food in RVA. I’ve been all over RVA and eaten at many«Mexican» restaurants. None even remotely compare to the fresh chips, tortillas, foods and salsa. The worst thing in Mexican cuisine is when you order and the food comes to your table in 10 minutes. That means reheated and not fresh. Chuy’s takes the time to prepare and never disappoints. Chuy’s is the only Mexican food I’ll enjoy. Thank you for bringing Chuy’s to RVA. I haven’t had Chuy’s since San Antonio, Texas.

I teeter between 3 and 4 stars. The food is good, the salsa is delish and the house marg is perfection. On our first visit our server, Alex, knocked out socks off. We told him we were new and he brought over a «special request» sauce and even did a sauce sampling. He brought over every single sauce they have and described them, knew what entrees they were each in and made dinner recommendations based on which ones we loved. All for FREE! This was a PHENOMENAL way to make meal suggestions! Sadly on later visits our other servers knew nothing about the ‘daily sauce’ as salsa and don’t seem to know much about the menu. At least not enough to describe a basic enchilada. We will keep coming here because the food is AMAZING but the service leaves so much to be desired I don’t even try with the wait staff or hostesses anymore. Restrooms are clean and well stocked, the dining room is clean and feels fairly open. Patio seating is available and we can’t wait to try it. The food isn’t greasy, tastes fresh and the portions are large and everything is in the $ 9 – 14 range. I really like coming in Wednesdays for the stuffed avocado! HOWCOULD I FORGET!?! The happy hour truck!!! Free nacho buffet M-F til 6(?).

CHUYS! I do love this place. The food has always been great! I’m constantly impressed with the quality of food I am served here. They aren’t playing around when they say something is spicy. I do think they can go overboard with the level of spice sometimes, which worries me when we bring our kids. The service has always been outstanding for us. Every time we have been, the staff has always went above and beyond to help us.

I don’t even know where to begin. The food is spicy and very salty. We order the guacamole and it tasted rotten. The white sauce was to salty. The rice was over seasoned and gross. Definitely NOT good quality food. Nothing tasted fresh, almost as if everything was taken from freezer and heated.

I’m always a little torn when it comes to Chuy’s. I haven’t ever been blown away by the food. I have had better Tex-Mex. However, so many Mexican restaurants around are dives. This place has a great atmosphere, clean, well decorated, great theming. So having a step up on cleanliness and décor overshadows average tex-mex. I give it 3 ½ stars for food and 4 ½ for cleanliness/décor and thus still give it a strong 4.

For a chain they are always consistently great. Love the one in Charlotte and Midlothian one is just as good. Great kids menu and even have virgin daiquiri’s for my 6 year old. The kids love the palm tree dining room. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is my favorite.

I don’t know how the rating for this place it’s so low, the food tasted great and the drinks were even better and to make things even better our waiter Alex was FANTASTIC!!! Don’t forget desert… A single serving of the tres leches is big enough for four people.

Took a group of 30. Scary enough thought… but I called and Nathan was on it. They had everything set before we got there, we had two fabulous servers, Aubrey & Kaitlin, and the food was absolutely wonderful. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered, we were all full… plus everything came out within a couple minutes, which for a group that size was impressive on its own. Atmosphere was great, and it was well maintained and clean! Thanks to the whole team for making yet another large group dinner successful!!! We will be back next year!

I love Chuy’s! I don’t live near one, but my sister does. Needless to say, every time I visit we eat here and/or get carry out! The inside décor is very eclectic and fun! Staff is always very nice and accommodating. This particular time I ordered the beef fajitas which were great and served over a heaping bed of spicy sautéed onions and peppers. I have also tried the steak burrito which is delish but, my favorite is the chile relenos. You can customize it to have stuffed with whatever filling you want and just like for most items on the menu, you can pick what sauce is drenched over top! Also…there complimentary salsa and chips, and Queso(from the appetizer section) are AMAZING!

We most have picked the wrong items from the minute, everything was bland. The free Chips were light and flavorful. We chose queso dip instead of the salsa. The décor is nice and atmosphere is loud. Not much I’d come back for.

I had the steak burrito and it was excellent. Reasonably priced and great family environment. The only complaint I have would be that the kitchen is open and my clothes and jacket smelled of sautéed onions when I left. Staff was friendly and knowledgable.

My wife really liked Chuys, I thought it was okay. She had the chicka boom boom enchilada, which looked much better than my southwestern enchilada. The chips n salsa are very good, and the creamy jalapeño signature sauce is outstanding. The restaurant itself reminded me more of a burger joint than Mexican, but we liked it. The service was so-so. I thought the prices were very reasonable.

Had a much better experience than at the other location in short pump! The food was hot, & delicious although a little slow to come out. I got the Comida Delux which is enough to feed 2 people! The portion was very large and I ended up eating half the next day for lunch. Their salsa & house made chips are also tasty & I highly recommend the tres leches cake! The reason for the star deduction was that we ordered beers and once they were finished we were never asked if we would like another and refilling waters and chips was somewhat slow but I would come back and eat again!

I want to like you, Chuy’s. I love your kitschy interior and your warm, homemade chips that are made right in front of me. Your salsa is so very delicious and fresh, and I always eat too much of it before my meal arrives. But every time I come here, something goes wrong with our order. Last time we were served rellenos that weren’t fully cooked and we had to send them back. Yesterday my son ordered a cheese quesadilla, but got an enchilada instead. You can do better than this, Chuy’s.

I know I know… it’s a chain. But if you don’t go to a chain every once in a while they will leave… ie Chammps. So I took the family to Chuy’s for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. Since it’s still new, the wait was around 30 mins but I didn’t mind. The server we had(Keegan) was very pleasant, and his service was great. I ordered a margarita, and my wife had a frozen sangria which both had tons of flavor and were awesome. I ordered the shrimp Baja tacos and the were outstanding. The shrimp were fried and could have easily been an entrée on their own. The red cabbage slaw was great as well. The crown jewel of Chuy’s is the creamy jalapeño sauce, which has to be what God uses to dip his chips on. There was a little of the sauce in the taco and it was devine. Again…I know it’s a chain… but this one is worth a visit. Since there is no decent texmex in #RVA, this was long overdue. And it’s in midlothian, near my house.
