Had no plans to come here, but dropped in when the Korean place next door was unexpected closed. Food Got the #18, chicken phở with egg noodle. Noodles too chewy, not very flavorful. Chicken was pretty tasteless. Broth was bland. Pretty lackluster and especially poor by south bay standards. Sriracha was really the only saving grace. Service One lady working both as primary concierge, waitress, and cashier during lunch hour. I hope someone called in sick and this wasn’t typical, because she was(understandably) overworked and lagging everywhere. It took close to 10 minutes to get my order taken, which was pretty unusual. A lot of phở places, they try to get my order before I even open the menu. English was REALLY poor. I tried to ask her if they had«dark meat» for the chicken phở and she started talking to me about«yellow noodles» and«white chicken.» I gave up and just ordered in the simplest terms I could manage. Then I stood in line to pay, except she was held up seating some people and taking some orders. Overall, frustrating experience. Not offensively bad, but I would not come back.

The menu said filet Mignon but they gave us regular rare steak. What a scam! Never coming back.

I like this place! The food is delicious. I shared an order of phở ap chao. If you don’t know what it is, it is basically fried phở with your choice of seafood, chicken, or beef. It was pretty good. It was pretty good. It was a litlte vacant, but at least service was quick.

It was really quiet on a Sunday during lunchtime. Menu included more Northern style food such as cha ca la vong(grilled fish), so that was exciting to see. Although, the cha ca la vong was not cooked in front of you like back in Hanoi. Hoang Long fried the fish before bringing it to the table. I had #29 with the spicy fish with noodles. I thought the noodles would be cold and the fish on top, but it was a noodle soup. Fish came with the herbs and green onion garnishes. Fish was fine and had a good amount for the large size bowl. Noodles were overcooked though. Overall, it was like eating cha ca la vong soup style. Restaurant was clean. Food did take a while to come out.

We came out to eat here on a Sunday afternoon. It was nice inside, clean, and not busy when we arrived. We were greeted with friendly smiles and seated right away. I ordered #44BBQ Pork Chop, Shrimp, Mixed Salad, w/Steamed Rice & Sunny Side up Egg. I was expecting a thicker pork chop, but instead got thin slices of pork chop. It was good, especially with the egg and rice. My 19 month old also enjoyed the meat and rice. My husband ordered #1 Rice Noodle w/Filet Mignon, Tendon, Tripe Flank, & Brisket. This soup was really good. The broth had lots of flavor and the meat was perfect. #40 Terriyaki Chicken w/Onions, Bell Peppers & Rice was my favorite. My daughter’s friend ordered this and I had to take a few bites because it looked really good. I wanted to keep eating his meal! Next time I come here, I will definitely get this dish. I don’t care too much for Terriyaki, but his dish had the perfect amount. My daughters both had soup. #12 Rice Noodle w/Beef Balls and #19 Combination Rice Noodle Soup w/Jumbo Shrimp, Crab leg, Lean Pork, Beef Balls, & Chicken w/Out Vegetables. They were also both good and flavorful. Staff was really friendly but they did not come by once to refill our water. Hopefully they will be better next time we dine in.

Bad customer service. One of the worker gave the dirty attitude to this one Korean couple, they were old and don’t know a lot of English and they couldnt use english to order fluently but that worker treats them like FOBs in fact she is a FOB with her broken english and heavy accent. And this one day, I ordered a combination Phở and i did not see any fatty. I asked the employee and the same lady came out said it was everything and walked away pretends its none of her business. I would NOT recommend this restaurant not only because the food was terrible is because we don’t pay for this restaurant to get that attitude.

After staying home sick, the next day all I wanted was soup. Found this place and tried the chicken phở. It could be that I hadn’t had any solid food for a day or so but it was good. When I ordered, she asked if i wanted white or yellow chicken. I honestly had no idea what she meant so I said, both. Apparently that costs more so I ended up paying more than expected but there was a lot of meat in my bowl and i liked it all. I didn’t add anything except the lime and the broth was tasty. I couldn’t finish it all, I blame the fact that I was sick. We’ll see how it heats up later.

My sister and I have had a mission to try every phở restaurant in Milpitas. I would have to say this was the worst phở placeI have visited. Pros: 1.Clean Cons: 1. #8, the phở with meat was riddled in fat. I would say I could only eat 50% of the«meat» they gave me because the rest was bone, tendon and fat. Not appetizing to say the least. 2. It’s like a khaki convention in the restaurant. Tan flooring matched the tan walls and the tan ceiling. It felt like a mud-house. 3. No one was there and I still had to beckon someone to refill our waters. I didn’t love it folks. Phở’ing gross.

On New Years day, my friends and I wanted some dim sum at Moongate, but unfortunately, it was packed! We decided to walk across the street in search of a quicker option, which is how we stumbled across Hoang Long Restaurant. The restaurant was empty so we didn’t have to wait to be seated. I had the Phở Ap Chao, and I was surprised to see that they prepare the dish similar to how Thien Long does by folding over the noodles to make it really thick before they cook it. I wasn’t impressed with my food, but it did serve the purpose of keeping my hunger at bay.

DISCLAIMER = everyone has their own favorite Phở joint, and when they eat at a place that isn’t their fave, you’re all but guaranteed not to like it. Okay, I found myself in the Northern Milpitas area today. After picking up a few things at the Lion asian market across the street, I ended up here at this newer asian mini mall, insearch of lunch. I spotted this Phở place and decided to give it a try. The décor is kinda nice — modern-ish, with soothing green colored walls. The menu had several items besides the featured Phở noodle soup. After giving it a scan, I decided to get my usual #2, which is actually a #3 here at Hoang Long. The food arrived pretty fast. I was amazed at how large the LARGE bowl is — maybe as big as an Extra Large at other places. It looked nice — kind of Japanese ramen-ish in presentation. The scallions and onions were arranged a bit in the center of the bowl. I noticed right off that the color of the soup was a darker brown than I’m used to. No biggie. I placed all the side stuff ontop, and gave it a liberal squirt of the brown Hoi Sin sauce. I scooped up a large mouthful with my chopsticks, and… WTF? Instead of the typical Phở goodness that I’m used to at my normal favorite Phở place, I was assaulted by a kind of liver-ish/vomit-y odor and taste to the soup. I 100% did not like the flavor. Side note– I really hate the taste of liver, and vomit isn’t up there on the top of my list either. The selection of meat(some of which was billed as sliced filet mignon in the menu) were tough, rubbery, and a bit under cooked. Ughhhh. The restaurant itself was very busy as noontime approached. I was baffled — why would so many actually enjoy this foul tasting and smelling stuff? Prices were slightly higher than my usual place, and the service was very good. I feel pretty bad about giving it a low score, but this is where personal taste comes into play. Just 2 outta 5 stars from me. I’ll stick to my personal favorite place if I’m ever in the mood for Phở. I suppose that if one day I do actually develop a taste for liver and vomit Phở, maybe I’ll return.

I am not impressed. The vermicelli noodles weren’t fresh, tasted like it was undercooked and it came straight out of the package. Egg rolls were doughy and veggies that came with it wasn’t so great. I think ill just stick with my usual spot on calaveras.

My little brother was really excited to show me this place since he loves phở. He said that they had phở for $ 4(not including meat) so we thought we’d just check out their regular items as well. Was expecting more but I guess my brother was just excited that it was something he could afford a date night on(he’s only 12) so the phở was very average. It was more on the sweeter side as were the noodles. It was good but I was more disappointed with the meat. Steak was thick and fresh but the flank was yellow rubber bandy kind of rubbery. Lady forgot out water and she was kids cute when she actually delivered it to us. She laughed and was like LOLSOSORRY. Now if I was in a bad mood that’d piss me off lol but she was cute. The décor is a bit nicer than your usual run down viet restaurant, but the phở is very average. On the bright side it smells like roti buns(from Honeyberry) right when you get in. Mmmmmm.

With so many phở joints in the South Bay, most are pretty average and very much alike. In comes Hoang Long, where even«the basics» aren’t of the phở norm. The broth in their Dac Biet is bold, just the way I like it… without even adding any condiments. And my last bowl was pretty meaty. Their spring rolls are longer than the usual 3 shrimp length. Their 4-shrimp long spring rolls have lots of flavor with grilled marinated pork and mint leaves. I’m sure I’ll be back for these. And finally, HL is NOT a cash only phở restaurant. That’s a rarity.

For a place that has the word«phở» in their restaurant name, one would think that their phở would be decent at worst. Not the case. I got their large #1, the special which has basically every meat(brisket, tendon, w/e) in it. I was highly surprised that my dish came out in less than 4 minutes. Then I figured out why. Too much MSG in the broth. The broth wasn’t even piping hot, as evidenced by the numerous pieces of uncooked meat in my phở. The bean sprouts, lime and other greens weren’t even fresh. Even as I’m typing this review, my throat is dying from MSG-induced dryness. The search for good non-homemade phở continues… Oh yeah, I recommend to bring cash to this place(as for any other Vietnamese-owned business), they charge a $ 10 fee on your Visa or Mastercard.

Minimum $ 10 credit card charge. While waiting for my to-go order, the employees were kind enough to offer me a seat. There’s a large TV screen in here that only plays Vietnamese karaōke music videos. I ordered a large combination salad because my boyfriend and I were on a diet. The salad was $ 11.99 but it filled us up. It was deliciously tangy and with some spicy flavors. My mom doesn’t like Vietnamese food but she’ll only go here. It’s also the only place I know of so far that makes bomb Vietnamese salads. I like that their vegetarian options are just as appealing as the meat options. If you come here as a family(aka hubby, wife, and a small child) and want to save money yet have really good food, order #63 which is sizzling fish served with vermicelli and vegetables. The fish is legit.

#58, BBQ Pork and prawns over vermicelli: Horrible! no flavor in the prawns, too much gristle in the pork, noodles were very cold. ca phe sua da: Horrible. Tastes like they did not use the top hat percolator: no better than regular coffee. I may have ordered the wrong thing: the people in-the-know were ordering #63, Bun cha ca La Vong(Sizzling fish served with vermicelli, for 2 people $ 19.95).

Remember when you were a kid? And you watched a fantasy movie where a wizard or a witch has to make a potion. They throw in all sorts of things. Like lizard’s tails, dragon’s breath, fish eyes, gun powder, tongue of newt, etc. Then when you went to play outside, you mimicked the same thing. Except you used rocks, dirt, leaves, snails, ants, spiders, sugar, non-dairy creamer, sand, tan bark, etc. You made your own potion. Well, that’s what Phở is. There’s an old woman in the back that takes her hand on a branch and strips all the leaves as they fall into a bowl of salty water. *Check out the picture I attached. Apparently, they FREE dessert. So, anytime dessert is in need of a bail bond, contact Phở Hoang Long.
