Had a work meeting lunch today at Von’s. Paul one of the owners was quick to greet our table and give us recommendations on some delicious food. I posted the photos here on Unilocal.Everything was delicious. We ordered two desserts that we devoured immediately. But when Paul came back and talked about the ‘special award winning bread pudding’ we had also get one of those to go! The menu is full of variety and everything is perfectly seasoned. We all decided we would come back real soon especially to experience the attentive treatment that Paul gave us!

We had heard how good Von’s was and were super excited to have a great dining experience. We started with fried green tomatoes. You could tell the tomatoes were fresh and fried nicely. There was not much flavor however. Ordinarily there is a tangy flavor to green tomatoes. The sauce was good, but like the tomatoes, lacked flavor. I wanted the fish special, but they were out of redfish at 7:15pm. I ordered the filet. It was cooked like I ordered, but lacked flavor. I forget what the topping was supposed to be, but it tasted like sour cream. The mashed sweet potatoes were super bland. My companion had the drunken noodles with beef. The beef was tough and there was no flavor in the dish. When we arrived with a reservation, we were asked if we would sit at the bar to leave the reserved table for larger parties. We politely declined and were seated by the restroom. The service was great after that. Like the dumb waiter, the acoustics made for a very loud and distracting experience. The menu really isn’t Asian fusion. There was no fusion. It wsome Southern style dishes and some Thai or oriental style dishes. The prices were reasonable. Our meal and a bottle of wine was 80 dollars. We probably will not go back.

My husband and I had two of their weekend specials. He had the filet(I think they have this all the time) and I had grouper and shrimp risotto. They were delicious! We met Paul and Von both while we were dining. I thought that was a nice touch! The prices were a little steep I thought. For the price we paid, they should have at least fixed our doggie bag for us :). It was an overall good experience but we will definitely try others before heading back. We love to support local businesses! Oh and the bread pudding is a winner!

Very good experience, great drinks, great people. Try it out, best meal I’ve had in Mobile this week. Well done, only review I’ve written this week! Also I think it’s important to mention how attentive the staff, owner, chef, etc. all were. When you see their pride you realize how much they care about the restaurant, the product, & most importantly your satisfaction.

This place is owned by Paul and Von Larson, a young couple, who started in Bayou La Batre and now have moved to downtown Mobile. I’m estimating the space has about 20 tables. They are open daily for lunch and Thursday thru Saturday for dinner. Their menu is fusion of Cajun and Asian cuisine. They have a nice assortment of appetizers including spring rolls and wontons. Entrees vary from seafood tacos to a variety of Asian style bowls. They also have a selection of 3 or 4 chef specials in the weekend. A nice cocktail list and plenty of choices on the beer list too. Vons is another nugget lifting up the dining options in downtown Mobile.

Amazing food and service! Newly opened in downtown Mobile and we couldn’t be more pleased. The atmosphere is French Bistro style with a friendly neighborhood feel. The entire staff is attentive and knowledgable and wants nothing more than to make your meal enjoyable. The menu is fresh Asian Fusion mixed with contemporary southern style dishes. Lunch was incredible but dinner is even more delicious. A must when downtown. You won’t be disappointed! Von has and will continue to make herself into one of the best chefs in Mobile! She and her husband Paul put their souls into this place and it shows! This one is here to stay!

We’ve been wanting to try Von’s for a while. It was certainly worth the wait. This place is incredible! We went for lunch and I ordered the pork chop with gravy and mashed potatoes and veggies. The hubs ordered my second choice — the fish tacos. The pork chop was tender and flavorful, but those fish tacos — Oh Em Gee! I wanted to trade him! They were made with fried white fish, onion, jalapenos, cilantro, and maybe a dash of love potion because I totally fell in love with them. I really wanted to try the shrimp and grits, but I’m probably going to order the fish tacos the next time we go. We started with the crab dip au gratin, and it was delicious as well. Even though we were stuffed after our meals, I never turn down bread pudding. Thank goodness for that, because their bread pudding may have even been better than their fish tacos. Maybe. It did win a Nappie award for bread pudding. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food. The service was great as well. The atmosphere of the restaurant is comfy and cozy. This may be the best lunch spot downtown. It quickly went straight to my list of favorite places to eat in this area!

I was excited about Von’s opening downtown. My first visit, I had lunch outside. The shrimp tacos were perfectly cooked, and the service was great. My second visit, I had dinner inside. The acoustics in there amplify chatter to an 11(really loud). I had the grouper special. The fish was cooked well, but the overall dish quality did not match it’s price. The Beurre Blanc sauce was flat and seasoning was non-existent. Maybe next time.

Went here several weeks ago and enjoyed it. It is a pretty interesting fusion between gulf coast and south East Asian. I got a red curry type dish, but it was with less curry than Thai and thicker. It also had some southern vegetables added to it. The location was nice too. I am glad to see some restaurants moving into that area close to the port. There is not too much going on there and it could be a pretty cool area. Overall the food was good and interesting. The service was excellent, but the prices were a bit off in my opinion. I would love to pay 10 – 15 for the meal I got, but it was around 25.

Vons Bistro is a touch of class and inventive cuisine for downtown Mobile. From the attentive and professional wait staff to the personable owners who almost always visit with their diners, Vons is my new favorite restaurant in Mobile. It feels like dining in a hip big city bistro. And the prices are surprisingly good, maybe the most bang for your buck in town. Bottom line: Go. Order anything on the menu or the daily specials and you will not be disappointed.

Had a fairly nice meal but must admit having eaten in Asia as well as many places in the U S and abroad, Von’s is «ok». The noise level inside leaves much to be desired especially if you’re looking a nice adult evening. Service needs more training but that’s a mgmt issue. The wait staff is friendly and they try very hard. Had two specials both of which were tasty. The greens particularly delicious. Side note, appetizer came out wrong then correctly came out the same time as our entrée. Most restaurants would have noticed and removed the entrée and brought out later. That didn’t happen. Will definitely be back for lunch but hope they correct the minor details that keep them from being great!

Stopped in for lunch at this«open-kitchen» bistro and I’m glad i did. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai and Spring Rolls, both were excellent and the staff was very attentive and friendly. Get there early, they get busy for lunch!

Two stars for being sold out of most of the menu before 7:15 on a Saturday night(we even had reservations). Upon learning we had only 2 real choices from the menu we left in search of other options. As a side note, there seems to be big differences between the lunch & dinner menus. The lunch menu appears to be fairly stable, however the dinner menu seems to be mostly nightly specials(that apparently run out quickly or aren’t well planned for). Several folks told us Von’s was really good food, so we were disappointed not to be able to really experience it and hold out hope that the kinks get worked out.

This is a pretty good restaurant. Von has him all kinds a good stuff. You can get you some tacos. You can get you a blt(b for bacon l for lettuce t for mater). you can get you a steak hamburger. Don’t nobody care. I got me a thing called a padded tie. It was kind of like fried rice that the china mans ean with chicken and nuts. And a cokecola. It was pretty good. We also got us some wantons. They forgot to bring us the wantons at first so then we got two plates a wantons but we only had to pay for one plate a wantons. They was pretty good.

Recently enjoyed lunch with a co-worker at this newly-opened eatery. The people there was super friendly and definitely made us feel welcomed. The menu is a little bit of everything from tacos, asian inspired, comfort food, daily specials, and so on. We went there during prime lunch hour around 12:30 P.M., yet our meal came out very quickly… probably within 10 minutes of ordering. My company enjoyed her food very much. What I ordered turned out to be too sweet for my liking, but overall prepared well. I’d happily go back to try the rest of the menu soon. Good luck Von’s!

Tonight I ate at Von’s Bistro and I have to say the food was wonderful. Aside from the awesome taste, the restaurant’s promptness was something I think all restaurants can learn from. The only reason I can’t give a 5 is because I feel with this being the restaurants first dinner shift, they still have endless ways to grow and better their already wonderful establishment. Keep up the good work Von!

Vietnamese PoBoy with 5 spice Chinese Pork was yummy. However, fries were super soggy and unsalted. Came in after the lunch rush and service was still great. Manager-type was very courteous and made us feel welcomed. Two sandwiches, two sides, an appetizer, and two sweet teas cost about $ 33.

I have been waiting for Von’s Bistro to open at this new location since experiencing their food truck. Delicious! I am a huge fan. First visit to this new location and really enjoyed the drunken Thai noodles. I had to make myself get something different because my «go to» from the food truck is the seafood nachos. They are my favorite. Nice ‘clean’ modern décor. Definitely going to make this a frequent lunch spot.
