Dickey’s Barbecue Pit

Wanted to like this place but yes it is like a fast food BBQ. The fries were soggy and greasy. The ribs were mediocre at best. The chicken was dry and not very flavorful. Beans taste fresh out of the can!
Won’t be back.

After several months of boycotting this place my wife just wanted something different. So I broke down and went to get her a BBQ sandwich. I had decided to stop going to this establishment because of poor customer service and long waiting times, even when it wasn’t very busy.
Pulled up to the drive through behind a car that was waiting to order. Sat there for about 3 – 4 minutes and realized no one even knew the car ahead of me was in the drive through and trying to place an order. I backed out and walked inside.
There was no line inside and I was able to place my order right away. I noticed a different vehicle at the drive through window. I thought, well I guess their drive through is working after all. Then the guy that took my order says to the girl at the drive through station, «Hey, you know there’s a car in the drive through and it’s been there for seven minutes.» The girl gave no reaction and slowly proceeded to take the order. Most people would have been like, oh crap. my bad.
As I paid for my order I got a good look at the fryer area behind the counter. Absolutely disgusting. All kinds of French fries and other fried foods strewn about the area and on the floor. What a mess! And the whole time this place was not busy.
So poor customer service (for me and the other person in the drive through) and a disgusting food prep area with minimal customers around. This place has all the ingredients for failure. They’ve had problems in the past and apparently haven’t improved. I doubt this place will be in business in 2016.

Great sandwiches and yummy sides. Good selection. I’ve had the chopped beef brisket and turkey breast sandwiches.

Run. Run far away. If you enjoy putting anything in your mouth, or care at all about your good health, or looking for any type of enjoyable experience whatsoever go somewhere else. I promise you. This place is not worth the time and certainly not worth the money. Went here about a month ago with my girlfriend and her mother and even though we all had something different off the menu, not one of us enjoyed a single bite. And I have never experienced so much filth and flies in any dining establishment I’ve ever been to in my life. Please do yourself a favor and throw your money away before considering this place. If I could give them negative stars I would.

We gave up on this location a few months ago… mainly because of the flies. They seriously need to look into installing one of those blowers that keep out flying insects.
Against our better judgement we tried the place again today and not only were the flies still a problem… the staff was condescending and rude. The guy who was cutting the meat asked for my order… I told him… and he asked if it was «for here or to go». I smiled and said «here».
He asked again… and I responded (still smiling) «here… if you’ll let us stay.»
He then asked for my order again and asked three or four more times if it was for here or to go! I repeated «here» each time and on the final time that he asked me the same question (redundantly…with a clear audible response) I jokingly asked if he wanted us to leave.
He was so rude. There was no indication that he was joking. There was no indication that he couldn’t hear me. The guy next to him was nicer but just like a little kid who feels empowered by a friends ballsiness and rude behavior… he was a little rude on his own, too. It was as if they were entertaining each other. I had never seen either of them before. I had no clue who they were. They didn’t know me. So it’s not like I have a past with either of them. Maybe it was a bad day for them? Point is… they made me and the person with me feel like we were unwanted at the business.
Unfortunately we had already ordered and were in a hurry.
We should’ve walked out.
If management ever reads this: you need to get your fly situation fixed and look for employees who know how to treat their customers. Truth be known we gave it another chance today because the past service was decent and we were hoping to have a better experience.
The food was good… the service was horrible… and the flies were in full effect. What’s wrong with this picture?

This place is awesome! It doesn’t taste like fast food at all. Loved it & we will be returning! The portions were huge too! Can’t wait to go back!

We stopped going to Dickey’s because of the fly problem and the temperature of the meat. It was never hot enough. We complained to the workers, but they didn’t seem to care, so we stopped going.

This is the dirtiest nastiest place I have ever been. There is food and dirt everywhere. The floor is nasty. I think there was about 50 Flys in the eating area fighting me for my food. I know modesto is the city of Flys and people there do not mind them but I think it’s gross. I had to eat outside it was so nasty inside.

I have had barbecued ribs in the past at this restaurant but today I only stopped in for a sandwich for lunch and what I received was a total disappointment. The bun tasted like it was old, it was not properly toasted, and the brisket was so overcooked that it was dry, I could not eat it. Unfortunately I had taken the sandwich to go and was too far away to return it.

WOW !!! My wife and I have driven by so many times any finally decided to give it a try !
The service was TOP notch and the food was even better.
We will for sure return.

Family an I love the turkey an brisket! Customer service could be a little better but I totally understand being under paid an standing in a hot kitchen! But anyways FREE ICE CREAM thank you Dickys!

We have eaten at Dickeys a few times in Manteca and it was great. We tried the one in Modesto and ordered ribs to go. The ribs were dry, crunchy, and very little meat on them. Very disappointed. Not sure we will eat there again. Way too expensive if the bbq isn’t going to be good.

The food taste great. My husband was a little annoyed at the fact that the meals were too expensive and did not include a drink. I think they need to take more pride in making sure that the outside of our food containers are not lathered with barbecue sauce. In addition they need friendlier customer service people running the drive-​through window.

Drive thru service is horrible been through twice and had rude service here. Gina works the drive thru and she can NOT multi task. First she couldn’t figure out how to change my order at drive thru so she didn’t charge me for my upgrade meal she kept it at its first order price, if she hears your order wrong and you correct her she will roll her eyes at you! Weird! I would not have someone working my restaurant with that attitude she must hate her job or something. Food is good not service at this place DO NOT EAT IN HERE you may be getting rude customer service !

I went to dickies in Modesto to get some barbecue ribs, must admit it was really disappointed in my meal. The ribs were on the dry side with very little meet. The staff was great. Will i eat at dickies again Not anytime soon.

Way overpriced for what you get and they were out of 2 of the types for entrees I wanted.

So I just posted a photo of my salad bowl. And on the bottom of not only mine but my bfs salad is brown/​black water spots. That tells me they do not clean the lettuce and that is absolutely disgusting. I love dickeys but this makes me sick.

Went today and tried the baked potato with brisket inside the thing weighed over a 2 pounds! It was amazing i will get another soon. So awesome lots of bacon cheese sour cream onions and MEAT!

I would give this one 5 stars If only the manager wasn’t so loud though. she’s always yelling at her employees whenever my family comes to eat here. Maybe that’s why they quit or something, because they’re always so short on staff! The lines move pretty slowly; they really need to hire more help without scaring them away. I always feel so bad for the cook in the back because he/​she is always constantly being scolded. It’s not their fault that the joint needs more people.
Ugh but i love the food so much so we keep coming back for it lol. I like the fried food in this branch restaurant much better than our previous visits to other places because the cook in the back fries them up just right. They don’t get all soggy afterwards!

I had the chicken and ribs plate with a side of barbecue beans and baked potato casserole. The chicken was moist and the ribs were fall-​off-​the-​bone (and not too fatty). The side dishes were really good too.
The original and spicy BBQ sauces are pretty bland compared to Armadillo Willy’s or Texas Roadhouse. Still, it’s a great place for lunchtime Texas Barbecue.
