We went during the week, so it wasn’t too crowded. It’s a cozy spot. The host and our waitress were friendly. Their yummy, fluffy pancakes are the thing to go for. Egg dishes were pretty decent. They had local art for sale on the walls, which I like when I’m visiting a town. The place had a cute, diner-like charm — not fancy. Reasonably priced. CASHONLY.

Served our needs, nothing special. Western omelette dry and sub par. Pancakes were good. Service sub par. $ 61 for 2 adults and 2 kids for breakfast eggs and pancakes. Only one bathroom to share for all patrons.

John’s still has it. Unapologetically old-school. Exactly what you should expect at a pancake shop like this, good, solid pancakes.

Couldn’t even stay there to order, the waitress was so loud and obnoxious and rude, for no reason at all. Told us to sit anywhere, and when we sat down, she said, «not there!» She kept telling us, «Its going to be busy in here, may not be busy now, but its going to get VERY busy.» So when we moved the table so I could get out and move and then we tried to move it back, the waitress gives out a huge loud sigh and says, «Oh my God, I’ll take care of that.» Really? Focus on your current customers, not the ones you hope come in the door and don’t tell us to sit anywhere and then ask us to move. Its not like I was a hungover beachgoer, I am a polite 48 year old professional woman. I don’t like to complain, but they really need to learn about customer service. With so few sit down breakfast options in the area, its probably the only reason they’ve stayed in business for so many years.

Perfect diner style place for breakfast. Our server was very kind and the pancakes really good — I really enjoyed the fresh blueberry ones!

Horrible save your cash… Not sure what the hype is I can make a better omelette and pancakes my self ! Go anywhere else in town, goldbergs, the bake shoppe or Steve at the terrace café ! Such a disappointment after a long long wait too !

Went here for breakfast. The menu was as expe ted, nothing fancy. Everything pre packaged and nothing fresh so dont expect any frills. Sat at the bar and the service was horrible and ineffecient. They only accept cash which is something common in MTK. Wouldnt go back.

Food was good and our waitress was sweet. Only thing lint so great on the plate was the home fries — way too dry and stale tasting, and my poached eggs were too well done. They were busy but the staff seemed overwhelmed and stressed out. You’d think they’d be more seasoned at an established place like this. Overall though it was a solid breakfast.

John’s Pancake House… Wonderful! The Coffee brings you back… Fluffy hot pancakes. Eggs to order I sit at counter. NO Wait. Folks ALLWAYS so nice. Lots of locals. CASH… ONLY Newspapers for reading. Lots of cool Montauk Wall Art. Good way… to start your Montauk day! Jim D.

You walk in and I guess the person that’s supposed to be the hostess is at the dining counter and tells u to sit wherever u want. I ordered a No.2 which was 3 pancakes, 2 eggs, and bacon but I asked for sausage. Apparently it can be ham also. Food came out in less than 10 minutes. Standard, but sausage was weird. Pancakes were underwhelming especially for a place that calls itself«pancake house». Service was not good. Just do yourself a favor and avoid.

Unbelievably rude hostess but I guess if you’re the only place open for breakfast on the off season, you can treat your customers however you want. Two stars are for the waitress who was a little more pleasant and the food was ok. Typical diner portions; big.

Usually a very busy place so if you don’t mind waiting a little the breakfast is awesome. Cash only.

My husband and I went to Montauk during the off season and was especially grateful to have a breakfast place open for our dining pleasure. I ordered the ET pancakes, a peanut butter and chocolate chip concoction that left me breathless, and my husband ordered both the French toast platter and an egg/bacon/toast/potato breakfast. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service was quick and efficient, while still being friendly. I would easily recommend them to anyone wanting a hearty and delicious breakfast.

Thank you Trish for a very pleasant lunch with my wife and myself. First timers and when we come back to Montauk soon, we will make sure to stop in for some good old fashion home cooking! NE Chowder was very creamy and tasty as well. Tuna was excellent and the corned beef was great. But what makes the experience even better was the server Trish! Great personality and we appreciate it!

Came into here last weekend and we had a great breakfast. We both had eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries and coffee. Then we saw the pancakes and had to try them too! Everything was delicious! And our waitress was very very nice. This is definitely a place worth revisiting.

This is a true local joint, the type of place where outside condiments are welcomed and everyone chimes in to sing ‘happy birthday’ to an old fireman as a plate full of homefries with a candle shoved in the middle is carried out. Misnomer– this place should NOT highlight pancakes. I only tried the plain pancakes, and although they offer about a dozen varieties, I can’t imagine they would make up for the underwhelming bland flavor and rubbery texture. The pancakes were thin and lukewarm, tasting as though they were prepared ahead and stacked in the meantime. They would be better naming the place after the huge omelets, which looked amazing. I’ll give them credit for the creative fillings. I really wanted to like the place, especially since out waitress was so friendly and the local vibe. However, to top off the mediocre pancakes, at one point the woman running food put me over the edge– her long, curly hair rested ever so lightly atop a pile of homefries. And the kitchen staff didn’t wear hairnets; isn’t there a law against that?

This is such a GEM in Montauk. I came out here for the weekend expecting to pay Manhattan prices for food, so I was very happily pleased to find that this place is actually rather inexpensive AND they give you tons of food! I ordered the three pancake special(three pancakes, two eggs your way, and bacon) and a side of homefries. I’m fairly certain that the half pound of bacon I received would have happily served both myself and my boyfriend, and the side of homefries was actually the size of a dinner plate. I suspect that the cook threw in an extra egg to my fluffy scrambled eggs(I wasn’t even mad). My three pancakes weren’t childs play either, it was three LARGE plate sized pancakes. As a lover of breakfasts, I was in heaven. Our server kept our coffee mugs and water glasses full. We came on a Sunday morning for brunch, and while it was busy, we didn’t wait long at all. The place is really packed though, so keep our elbows to yours sides to keep your eggs from flying off your fork when a busboy passes by! If there’s anywhere you visit for breakfast, John’s should be at the top of your list.

This is my second time coming here and I like it a lot, pancakes are really good, they have crepes and the special is a Holy Canoli! Must try it! The line does get out the door for a wait but it’s worth it! Staff is friendly and atmosphere is really nice!

It was good… not the BEST but definitely good. The staff was not the most warm and welcoming(this is where the 1 star deduction came from) …but they didn’t spit it on my pancakes so I suppose that’s awesome!!! LOL Let’s get to the point, the pancakes were the reason we went and they were okay… they were good, large, fluffy, pancakes… what more could one ask for? They serve turkey bacon(sorry bacon-ites, I do not mean to use the term bacon, lol) … the coffee was great, it was perfectly strong. Will be back for breakfast… By the way it is a cash only place.

First time in the area, I was very surprised that there were two competing pancake houses, right across from each other. We had decided to come to John’s Pancake House because it had 5 minutes less for wait time. But I did not regret it one bit after we finish our meal. The service was good, nice waiter. Quick service and the food comes out quickly. I love breakfast places that are like this. In and out, for a breakfast meal. Most important meal of the day. Good pancake and good eggs benedict. I was especially happy that my benedict had spinach on it, which made it even more healthier. Everything else(potatoes, regular eggs, coffee) weren’t anything special to be mentioned, so I won’t go any further for that. Just try their pancakes and benedicts because those are my main reasons that I will becoming back when I am in town! it’s in such a great location, that you won’t miss it!
