I love this place! The food is so fresh– if you’re in the mood for a salad, you will not be disappointed. And the apple cider vinaigrette… I don’t know how it’s made, but it’s almost creamy. So delicious. In the cooler months, I love their soup as well. The nicest thing about going in– are the lovely owners. They are always there and working hard to maintain the quality of their food. A delight all around.

One word: OATMEAL. I never thought I’d rave about oatmeal… but its that good. They offer it with fruit. So you can get banana, raisin. Banana, mango etc. They make it to order so it takes 10 minutes or so but its worth the wait! Delicious. Other than that, the owners are two very kind people always smiling. And the soups are very good… I love the chicken lime and the lentil(they have vegan options). The only disappointing thing I’ve had was the coffee… it is standard«drip on a burner» diner style coffee. If I were at a diner — it would be ok. But from a specialty shop you kinda expect a better coffee. No biggy though. If you are looking for a healthy breakfast or lunch… or a juice or smoothy… this is a perfect spot.

Free candy, great staff, and great salad, if you leave without trying the Thai Iced Tea, you’re missing out

I had the special which was pancakes with curry and it was the best thing I’ve had in a long time. Wasn’t sure at first how it was going to be from the outside and I tend to not trust places that have photos next to their menu but I was proved very wrong. Definitely going back to try other stuff!

Really digging this spot. The owners are super friendly and they make amazing soups. They always have a vegan option as well as meat. Very clean establishment with lots of options whether you’re health conscious or not. Great smoothies as well.

Decent place to go for lunch if you want a salad or sandwich. The workers were very friendly and definitely care about their customers and their happiness. The salads are charged by the pound, and there are a lot of options you can choose from, so be careful you don’t spend took much. There’s also a pretty large selection of juices and smoothies.

Amazing homemade soups. Delicious salads with fresh ingredients. They have some fun combinations from which to choose and you can always design your own, all at pretty reasonable prices. This place is owned/operated by a very friendly couple. They are courteous, helpful and welcoming. There are far too few establishments such as this that offer a nice variety of healthy options. A welcome addition to the area for sure.

Let’s get things straight. You come to a salad and soup place because you don’t have the time or will(or ingredients on hand) to do it yourself. See, I have you pegged. It’s why I went to Green Chops in the first place. Since then, which was a week after they opened, I have been coming one or two times a week and not just for the food. The owners are such good people and so nice that I want them to succeed. P. S. — the soups are totally homemade and the salad bar is always fresh. I have never had a salad or soup that wasn’t exactly what I wanted. My daughter would vouch for the smoothies any day of the week as well. The salad bar has countless options and has never looked anything other than completely fresh. This is why you go here, because you can customize exactly what you want and then it is spun together. At home, you drop in the lettuce, a tomato and whatever else you have, but you are always missing something. How about some fruit in there? Croutons? Choice of ten dressings? Corn? Peas? Do you need me to go on? OK, hard boiled egg. The price per pound is well worth it, don’t blame it on them if you add all the heavy stuff. The soups are changed all the time and they are not only tasty, but unique. They switch broths all the time so you will have a regular chicken noodle broth then one based with coconut. They always have a vegan soup option as well. The soup and salad here have become a mainstay go-to option in my household because I appreciate that they take the time to hand craft a soup that I just don’t have the time to. The lentil soup is great, lime chicken noodle, mushroom, the selection is 4 per day and always rotating. Fresh, healthy choices are necessary for all of us and our kids. Out of time one night and need to get the family dinner, pass on fast food or pizza and get some healthy salads and soup. Any kid could find enough things in the salad bar to learn to love salad. Give it a try.

This is my second time here. Roman & Tina are very kind and passionate people about their food. They will let you taste test their food, which is made fresh every day! The last time I was hear I had the best and most fresh pastrami sandwich. Today I’m enjoying their Mixed Vegetables & Barley soup. I’m no soup man but I can get used to this!!! It has kick and plenty of barley and veggies to fill you.

Super nice to have a salad place in Montclair. Made my own salad with Kale greens and a variety of mixings and everything was fresh and delicious. Also tried the house green juice– delicious! The price for everything was fairly reasonable and the people that work here are very friendly. They offer a variety of smoothie fruits, and you can build your own there too, though I found that too many options makes it a bit tedious for me– hope they begin to offer more of their own recipes. Very good overall!

Delicious soups! They make many different kinds, and they are always very flavorful. The salads are also fantastic, and the ingredients for them are fresh. You can create your own salad, and it’s really good. The sandwiches are also very nice. Highly recommended.

Good place that could be so much better… The couple who works there is very nice. The store itself is trying to do a lot right now. They offer salads, soups, sandwiches, as well things like«toast with peanut butter» and«Toast with Jelly» although I don’t know how high the demand is for $ 1.50 item that takes 5 seconds to make at home. The lettuce & vegetables are fresh. The prices are $ 8/pound for salad, which is higher $ 1 more than Fairway, which is my favorite chop salad in the area(don’t hate just because it’s in a grocery store). Not unreasonable, but could be a little cheaper. This also doesn’t come with bread, unlike Fairway. My biggest gripe with Green Chop is the chicken. This is a place that predominately makes salads, however, they use the same rubbery«chicken» that you’d find on a subway sub. Gross(especially after you google the ingredients for the chicken… yes, it has ingredients. exactly). If I’m paying $ 7 – 9 for a salad with chicken at a local salad shop, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect fresh chicken and not some fabricated meat. When I get a $ 5 Chicken Teryaki at subway, I get it… the chicken isn’t fresh. At a place like this, however, it would go so much further having fresh produce in their salad, even though I understand it adds extra cost & time to a business. Also, their lettuce options are Kale, Ice Berg and mixed. Where is the Arugula & Spinach? They could update their cheese options to include goat cheese and good Parmesan instead of the Kraft green can and a jalapeño block cut into chunks. I also don’t know if they make their own dressings or they buy them(based on the chicken I assume the latter) but if they don’t, I think they should. All I’m saying is that if you’re going to open a Salad store, don’t go half way and offer a mediocre salad people can make at home. A place with good fresh ingredients and homemade dressings would go far in a town like Montclair, but I fear that with the current model they might not be around too long.

This has been my staple since late summer. I don’t eat meat, but I’ve gotten every vegetarian, vegan, and fish soup that they serve. Always amazing. The soups are made in-house, and are packed with flavor and fresh ingredients. I especially love the creamy tomato, red lentil, and potato and leek soups. They got me through winter! I’ve only had a few sandwiches, but they are also always very good. The salad bar has always looked fresh and clean.(See the photo I uploaded.) The juices are amazing — I love the House Special Juice with lemon. The owners are incredibly friendly and eager to listen to suggestions and requests. I’m very surprised that there have been reviews here that mention the salad bar looking«old» — that has never been the case in any of my visits. In addition, it’s true that the soups lean toward the spicy side in some cases, but the owners are always VERY conscientious about asking if customers want a sample, so I’d suggest taking them up on that option if spiciness is a worry. Highly suggested.

We got three soups to-go: tomato, chicken noodle and carrot ginger. The carrot ginger one was so gingery, it was inedible. It was as if whoever made the soup didn’t taste it once. The tomato and chicken noodle were fine, but nothing remarkable. It’s so easy to make a good soup I just don’t see how they can call themselves a soup place and serve stuff like the soup we had! While I was in there getting the soup, I surveyed the salad bar and have one word: eww! Everything looked old and soggy. After the inedible soup and the gross salad bar, I can’t think of any reason I’d ever go back there.

All summer long I wished Montclair had more salad options and finally, four weeks ago, this place opened up! I picked up a salad from here for dinner and appreciated the friendly service, the large variety of mix-ins, clean space, and inexpensive price. I ordered a big salad with a bunch of mix-ins and it came out to $ 6 and some change. Pretty sweet deal for this neck of the woods. Green Chop’s seems designed for take-out, but there are a few tables in the front. The interior is nothing special. When ordering at the counter, you pick your lettuce(3 options: mixed greens, iceberg, romaine) and then all the toppings you want. The price depends on the weight. They had several protein options(chicken, turkey, tofu), several types of beans, nuts, all the usual salad-y vegetables, and lots of fruit, which made me super happy. There was a list of typical salad dressings but since I’m very picky about dressing, I chose to keep my salad plain so that I could jazz it up at home. The nice woman behind the counter offered to let me sample the dressings though, which was cool. She mixed everything up for me and then offered to let me try their soups while the guy behind the counter rang me up. I passed on the soup but I’ll surely try them once it gets colder out. I’ve been disappointed lately with the customer service at many of the new restaurants around here, so props to this place for doing it right! I will definitely be back soon!
