I have to be honest. I’m surprised this place has an overall rating of 3 and a half stars. The food here is quite good. We ordered the breakfast specials and the portions are just right. I found their macaroni soup with egg and spam to be right on point. The soup was flavorful and quite good. It wasn’t watered down which I can appreciate. The pineapple bun with butter is delicious fresh out of the oven. Waiting for the butter to melt is the hardest part. The chern fun is pretty standard. It wasn’t awesome but it sure wasn’t bad so I’m happy with that. I think we had the chicken jook which was all standard to me. Not awesome but definitely not terrible. If I’m ever in LA again, I will definitely hit this spot again. Also, they’re known for the Hong Kong Style milk tea. I LOVE milk tea but not a huge fan of the HK style milk tea but if you are, you would like the milk tea here. Enjoy!

My childhood favorite food is here, cheong fun with some peanut sauce. There’s a special if you’re an early bird like me. Also try to get the traditional pineapple bun and it’s hard to find a good place in Los Angeles that serves this bun.

I’ve always driven by this place as it is on my way home and the gym. Every weekend morning, I see people lining up outside and I had no idea why. Unilocal reviews weren’t great and the place looking pretty rundown from the outside. I decided to come check it out with my GF. We came here at around 10am and the place was packed(granted it is a small restaurant). We waited about 15min and then got seated. Their menu is pretty cheap and limited. They have this breakfast special — Combo A and Combo B. Not sure exactly what each one contains why it was only $ 7 each. I got the Plain Congee, Steamed Rice Noodles, Pineapple Bun and Ice Milk Tea. I was surprised at how much food $ 7 can get you! All the food reminded me of my trips to Hong Kong and Guangzhou — pretty warm, hearty and it really hit the spot. My GF for the Ramen(came with eggs and 2 pieces of spam) Pineapple Bun and Hot Milk Tea(Free refills). Overall, this is not the fanciest or cleanest place but its worth a try. Cheap eats doesn’t get any cheaper than this.

This place has the best mini boba milk teas, pineapple buns, and BBQ pork with rice. Their milk teas reminds me of hong kong and the sweetness and flavor was perfect. Sadly they don’t open on Tuesdays and closes pretty early as well. There store is pretty small but I tend to just get togo. I would always come back for their bbq pork and $ 1.50 milk teas.

Came here for breakfast because I was craving for Asian style breakfast. With $ 7 dollar options, we actually got more than what we expected. I chose set B: hot Hong Kong style milk tea(refillable), pineapple bun, spam and egg, and ramen. I love how they put butter between bun. It created this saltiness for sweet bun. The bun was also buttery, crunchy and soft. Ramen was also delicious, they actually put my spam and egg inside the ramen. This dish was pretty simple but delicious. I will definitely come back here for this great breakfast! Cash only! Parking is either restaurant parking or street.

Hole in the wall kind of place. Simple menu but food is authentic Hong Kong style. Reasonably priced.

Hong Kong styled breakfast for the win! Authentic and comforting, you can’t go wrong with their set breakfast courses. It’s such a value too! I usually get the macaroni, egg, and ham which comes with milk tea and a pineapple bun smothered with butter. They have a stellar lunch menu as well, I’d recommend their Hainan chicken which comes with Chinese broccoli, chicken rice, and pickled radish and carrots. Customer service is great here too they are efficient and friendly.(Speaking Chinese helps but not required!)

Going to this place at least once a week after re-open. Like their fresh hot pineapple butter bum the best. As we all don’t want to know what’s happening in the kitchen, as long as food tastes good, don’t want to know how they process the food or cleaning the dishes, lately I can smell strong bleach when they serve noodle or food. Not once it’s almost most of time. Just noticed there’s «B» from health inspection ! Hope they are aware of it and improve the food quality and food processing. We want this restaurant can continue to survive and do business.

Simple and cheap breakfast. My party of 5 had to wait about 5 minutes to be seated. I ordered the B combo set with macaroni and sausage. The veggies were on the brown side and I would avoid getting the sausage next time, it pretty much tasted like a hotdog. My favorite part of the meal was the pineapple bun which was really warm and buttery. Cash only!

I love coming here for breakfast because it’s delicious and cheap. And my friend from hk approves. They recently remodeled — took out the old booths and inputted new glass tables and chairs. With that being said… the A, B, C sets are now $ 7 !! Which is still worth is because you get an entrée, bun, and milk tea. Since it was a little chilly the morning I went, I got the B set. You get to choose your noodle(macaroni, ramen, or vermicelli), your topping(egg & ham, egg & spam, egg &sausage, etc.), your bun(coconut or pineapple bun), and your drink(lemon ice tea, hk milk tea, coffee). I went with the macaroni with egg and ham, pineapple bun, and ice hk milk tea. For the toppings, don’t ever get the sausage. it’s just a hot dog. Not that great. For the bun, always go with the pineapple bun! Super fresh and soft. As for the drink, my favorite is the ice hk styled milk tea. We also ordered a side of steamed rice noodle($ 5). You must try this if it’s your first time here! The hot steamy rice noodle mixed with the peanut sauce is so bomb! Cash only & parking in rear

I don’t know why I have never been here before?! This place is good! Came here after work with some coworkers to have milk teas. Coworkers were raving how good this place is for their milk tea and I had to try it myself. Well, it is pretty good. Really creamy and you get to add your own sweetness busy putting condensed milk. We ordered the steam rice noodles with the hoisin and peanut sauce. The sauce taste homemade and has a different taste than other restaurants that serve it. Highly recommend this! We each ordered the pineapple bun! Big piece of pineapple bread with a slice of melted butter on the inside. Sooo good!!! The bread was soft and the top was crunchy. Really recommend this one too! We also ordered the tomato beef rice noodle. The soup base was flavorful, has chunks of beef, the rice noodle was saucy and flavorful. I want to try the other noodle soups that they have! I’m coming back!

After months of having Hong Kong Café on my bookmarked list, I finally came! Scored street parking right in front of the restaurant. We had about a 15 minute wait for 2 people around 10:00am. I was not expecting the restaurant to be as small as it was! Breakfast special($ 7) with chicken porridge(+2.50 instead of plain porridge), soy sauce chow mein, and a pineapple bun. I was oober excited to try the chow mein since some reviews mentioned it was the best thing ever, but it tasted just like regular egg noodles fried in oil and soy sauce — nothing special. I saw a lot of people getting the rice cake which is what I will do next time. Would not get porridge again since they add ginger — yuck! The pineapple bun was one of the best I’ve tried in the SGV! Dreaming of having another… HK Style Egg Sandwich($ 4.28): A little steep for what was buttery scrambled eggs between white bread. You could make this at home. The breakfast special comes with a drink — coffee of tea — I opted for the milk tea which was deeeeelicious! Will be back to try other items on the menu.

Yay! It’s reopened! The food and menu is still the same, the owner is still the same, the staff is completely different and on top of that they look quite inexperience, but it’s ok I don’t mind. Their pineapple bun is still the best in town and irreplaceable. The tables and chairs are new and kind of shifted around but it’s still has the same atmosphere. Its good old fashion comfort food…

Today I am so much looking forward to seeing the Hong Kong Café reopen. OMG all the old waiting staff had been flipped over. They all quit at the same time? WHY! I missed Olivia, Amy, and… My favorite scramble beef over rice is still tasted great, the best in LA, but where are the familiar faces. The new staffs are very very new; they obviously inexperience or no experience. The vib wasn’t the same anymore. I feel bad for the owner, she has to manage drinks, checks, follow up orders, and supervise all the new staffs. Its a lot of stress to wear so many hats, no wonder the vib has changed. BTW if anyone out there ran into Olivia or Amy, please tell them Katie say Hello and Facebook me where are you ladies working now? Thanks.

Like the previous review. It is closed! Why! Why! Why! The same staff had been completely flip over. Maybe it is the management problem? But, who knows. I have been going here for the last 10 years. I seriously at this point do hope they will somehow reopen. I really need my milk tea and milk coffee(yuan yan) fix. There’s no place in LA make this kinda of tea. At least not as good as they have made them. Begging to reopen.

A small store with comfort food from Hongkong. I’m crazy about milk tea and been trying so many different kinds. They have the best HK milk tea in LA. Seriously. Reminds me of my trip back to HK. Try their Pork Chop Curry … So good !!! Also Pineapple Bun Don’t forget the milk tea … If you dine in, you can get another refill of milk tea for just $ 1. Trust me it’s so GOOD

My go to place when I feel like Hong Kong authentic food. Breakfast is served until 11:30a. The HK milk tea is the best. They give it to you in a to go cup so u can take leftover to go. Funny this guy sat next to me asked the waiter for another milk tea after he sucked it down like there is no tomorrow. The waiter asked him if he would like ‘another one or a refill’? The guy asked for the difference. So here we learned, another milk tea will cost you about $ 3, when a refill is $ 1. It’s all in the way you ask! Haha. My favorites are ice milk tea, ice lemon tea(they are equally good), pineapple bun with butter, street rice roll. Oh I want to eat them again already… Just be warned, always a line during meal times. If you are not present when your number was called they will let the next person in. I have never had problem with the services. It’s fast and prompt, so be ready when they come to take your order or you will have to wait for the next opportunity. Fast pace restaurant with such yummy food.

To my huge surprise, slave girl wanted HK stuff for lunch. To my understanding, HK cafes usually serve street food and this place sure looks authentic along with their cash only policy. When we got there, the place was fully packed. Even with the ac on, it didn’t really help with the heat. We decided to go to the supermarket next door to kill some time and enjoy their ac while waiting for our table. About 15 min later, we were seated at the smallest table they had in the restaurant at the corner while they seated ONE guy at a 4 people table. C’mon, can’t you see we fat n we will order lots and lots food?! Well, I saw the 4 people table next to us was empty so I got a permission to switch the table. Thank you for the permission, I am forever grateful. As I have mentioned before how fat we were, we got the famous hand shredded chicken soup noodle, beef stew low main, sweet bun with butter, steamed rice rolls covered in peanut and hoisin(seafood) sauce, and two ice cold HK milk coffee. The drinks were pre made and we got it right away. How disappointing… Slave girl seemed to love the butter bun thing since I don’t usually care for sweets. The beef stew low main sucked because it had that super heavy star anise taste that overpowered the beef, and the whole dish was not really editable for us. Compared to everything, the chicken soup noodle was like a super star; tasty, filled with seafood but not enough chicken. The chicken itself was well seasoned and the whole dish was very enjoyable. The steamed rice rolls… I feel bad if people actually eating that and enjoying it. See, where I came from, we got well seasoned, deep fried meaty popcorn chicken for street food, and there’s this boring saucy rolls… Sigh. It wasn’t bad but it was definitely not good either. Maybe we didn’t order the right thing because the sandwich from other tables looked amazingly attractive. Only if they would share a bite with me… Maybe the grass is always greener? Probably won’t come back since food was meh and service was… Did someone say service?

It’s located on Garvey and this tiny place is very much a hole in the wall. There’s very little parking next to it so take the extra time to park on the streets and then walk over. The interior may be a bit dingy but it’s really all about the food right? The food’s atypical Hong Kong styled cuisine. There’s the rice noodles and bok choy. I ordered the ramen with chicken wings. It was okay and it came with a soup. I also got the Hong Kong Milk Tea which was smooth tasting. The food didn’t taste any different from other restaurants I feel. It’s probably nice to eat here every once in a while since it’s pretty cheap but I can’t see it as a place that people will go out of their ways for.

Bo Lo Bao so yummy here! Just the fact that they warm it up makes it taste better already. I thought the pad of butter was a bit excessive though. It’s already quite buttery on its own, and sweet + salty just didn’t really jive with me. Also, unlimited condensed milk with the HK milk tea was just dandy.
