Always a good spot to come and grab some real good chicken or beef kabob or both if your really feeling hungry. It’s close to the house for me and Mediterranean food is one of my favorite foods. Place is clean, quite, and staff are real cool. Food is out fast every time I come thru.

After seeing all of these yummy pics that Unilocalers have posted & hearing all the great reviews, I expected nothing short of a magnificent experience, but my expectations were let down! I was DISAPPOINTED! These are the best 3 adjectives I came up with from yesterday’s visit: over priced, bland & heavy. I ordered the chicken kabob plate and added one additional side of Greek salad. 1) Chicken Kabob: $ 11.95 for such little, bland meat & burnt bell peppers! 2) Yellow rice: looked and tasted like Rice-a-roni and was too oily and bland 3) Greek Salad: not enough cucumbers, green olives or feta cheese… skimpy! 4) Greek dressing: too oily and heavy The only good thing I ate was the warm pita bread slices and hummus, which tasted fresh. I would honestly NOT order anything else… LOL :D

Seriously the food is good! Thats 5 stars right there. BUT customer service is soooo important where ever you go. I walk in and the girl(dark hair/up in a bun) doesn’t greet me she looks at me and I tell her I have a pick up order, she asked my name, I tell her, she then says it’s not ready. Just like that… It’s weird because usually people say«it’s not ready yet but have a seat we’ll call you when it is» IN A NICETONE. I honestly don’t think this girl is mean or rude, I just think some people don’t have good customer service. I think they should hire someone who does, someone who smiles lol but hey they haven’t been over the top mean or rude so. I’m coming back because… Dammit the food is so delicious. But seriously customer service is important you guys.

This place is DELICIOUS. Best kabob sandwich(in a pita) I’ve had in years. I’ll make the trip across the city just to come back here. Perfect blend of flavors and spices. If I wasn’t so full, I’d order it all over again. Well done, JK. P.S. Not sure what all the parking fuss was about in someone’s previous review. They don’t really have a parking lot, but there is ample free street parking.

Chicken kabob place is bomb. I really love their pita bread here. The portions are good and the garlic sauce/hummus is delicious. I think its great for take out or to stop by for a quick lunch. It also makes it so convenient that you can order & pay for everything through Unilocal and just pick it up and go.

I used the online Unilocal ordering system for the first time. Worked great. Easy to use. I liked I could specify a pickup time… and there’s no extra fee… my order was accurate and ready upon arrival. Okay so the food. Got the combo kabob plate, Beef and gyro, well seasoned and tender, yum. Hummus, so smooth and mellow, yum. Rice pilaf, generous portion which is great for sharing and so fluffy, deserving of an all caps YUM. Comes with pepperochini, and a half pita, the thick pillowy kind cut in quarters. Also got a falafel sandwich… great flavor but lost its crunchy fried goodness since my order was takeout/pickup, but yum on flavor. The wrap was like a tortilla or lavash, not pillowy pita. it was easier to hold since it was burritolike, nice change, but I did wish for one split sec I had pita bread instead. Chicken kabob sandwich was made with aforementioned pita, chicken tender but not spongy, and filled with salad fixings… also not overfilled, and appropriately crunchy and fresh, yum. Advice: Get extra garlic sauce. It’s really super garlic, bigtime yum. Tziziki, perfecto… slather it on everything. Cons: limited parking.2 spaces with one being handicapped. Park on street. The lemon chicken soup, I liked it, but others thot it had too much starch in it, and was gummy. Pros: Mediterranean food in MPK, yayyy.

I normally am not a fan of Mediterranean, Greek, or Indian food. I mean, I’ll eat it, but I wouldn’t normally suggest it as something I crave or feel like eating. When it was time for us to think about what to order for dinner since we were going to be working late, we came across Johns Kabob. Slightly sick of Thai food by now(since there are limited choices for places that deliver), we tried Johns Kabob. If it wasn’t for the fact that they deliver, we might not have gone this route. I ordered the sauteed shrimp plate($ 12.95), and it comes with your choice of two side dishes: salad, hummus, steamed veggies(carrots and broccoli), rice, or fries. My choices of hummus and steamed veggies complimented the sauteed shrimp very well. The meal came with 4 pieces of pita bread, hummus, steamed veggies, and 8 pieces of sauteed shrimp. It didn’t look like much when I opened the styrofoam container, but I was full after eating it all! I love the taste of the shrimp, which were also plump and juicy. The steamed veggies were slightly seasoned and the best way to eat it is with a bite of shrimp. It’s also a good idea to eat the pita bread with hummus right away as the bread doesn’t taste as soft 45 minutes later. A happy meal to make up for staying late at work and burning the midnight oil. I want to say it’s on par with Ani’s Chicken, but I don’t recall shrimp being a choice there. Johns Kabob has been added to our list of places to order from for late night dinners. Thank you for delivering(both our food and the yummy taste of the food)!

The 2 stars is solely because of the customer service. They employ young girls who clearly don’t care about their jobs. I have dined in before and the service was minimal. She was on her phone when not helping people. Then I called for delivery. We tried for delivery but their delivery guy went home at 9. The girl who answered, who said her name was Elise and that she ran the restaurant, had so much attitude. Then I tried for a pick up. How hard is it to take a phone order without bring condescending and rude? I hope she’s doesn’t really«run» this place otherwise she’ll just run it to the ground. We couldn’t handle her attitude anymore and canceled our orders.

Horrible customer service. Very rude and dismissive. Didn’t even eat there and left 3 minutes after I walked in.

This place is sooooo delish! Quick and healthy food just the way I like it! I’ve been here about 4 times within a month… I obviously have not had enough. The chicken kabob plate is delicious, Comes with your option of sides. I have had it with salad and hummus and rice and hummus. Rice as a side is good but they give you so much of it that it’s a little overwhelming. Hummus is nice and creamy the way I like it. Plus they give you garlic spread that is absolutely mouthwatering. I smell like garlic for the rest of the day and honestly do not care because it was so worth it. BUT! I found my new favorite! Chicken kabob sandwich… WHAT! It’s my favorite dish in a convenient smaller yet satisfying form! Chicken, salad and spread hugged by a lovely pita bread. YES! YES! YES! The place is not that big on the inside, so I usually pick up a togo order. And it feels like whenever I arrive there are always a lot of people, which is both good and bad. Good = lot’s of people means the food is good, Bad = Get the heck out of here people I want food! Parking is sparse… as in… there really isn’t, but I walk there from my office. AND they take card! Unlike so many places in MPK. Come on MPK don’t you know 75% don’t carry cash?!(Not an actual statistic. It’s just based on the times I don’t have cash)

Location: 2 parking spots– one handicapped so really only one. The restaurant is like an island and circled around by streets. food: got the chicken/beef kabob plate and the chicken kabob plate. Both were good but each skewer doesn’t actually have much meat because there’s veggies on them too. Lots of rice if you choose that one. Hummus was smooth and delicious. The«garlic sauce» is actually garlic butter but that’s good. One combo plate came with tzatziki and the chicken came with the garlic spread. Two plates was about $ 26. Pretty good. I’d come back but only if there’s parking.

This is a nice change of pace to all the Asian food around Monterey Park. I met a friend here for dinner and had to circle around to find parking. Ended up on the street on Atlantic. My friend grabbed a booth and we went to the front to order. There was already a disgruntled customer in line waiting for the waitress to fix his order. She seemed a bit frazzled and we had to ask if we could order. She wasn’t the friendliest, but we figured it was probably cause of previous experience. I ordered the mix place with chicken and gyro, with hummus and salad. She ordered a greek salad with chicken and a side of baba ganoush and hummus. We got our food and my order was missing the salad and hers was missing the hummus.(So maybe the waitress wasn’t the greatest). The food was really tasty and overall it was a good experience. The place is small but has a homey feel. It didn’t blow me away but I would come back.

This is based on one visit but I will be going back. Greek food isn’t easy to come by in the SGV, especially in Monterey Park. It’s a welcome alternative. On a weekday around 2:30PM the side lot of only 2 spots was open so I got the non-handicap spot easy. Ordering was a cinch. Food prep didn’t take too long. Gyro sandwich combo with salad and iced tea for me. It was all good! The salad was cold and crisp, not overly drenched. No complaints on the sandwich either. I love sauce so I was thrilled to get a full ramekin of tzatziki sauce! Whereas other places I run out halfway through. Next time I will order garlic sauce as recommended by other reviewers. There’s a tv for you solo-diners like me.

Finally a Mediterranean/Greek place! Nice place, good to see variety in what seems to be an Asian only neighborhood. I like it here. The lady at the cashier is friendly and approachable. The food takes a while to make but that means it’s fresh. Got the chicken kabob plate w/fried and rice, combo plate(beef & gyros) w/hummus and rice. It can get heavy with the rice and pita bread, so pace urself. The flavors are light but the dips like hummus, tzatziki, and garlic spread give it some extra flavor. The parking is lacking, be careful with street parking. It’s off of Atlantic. Very busy street. That’s my reason for knocking off a star but besides that the place itself is good. I’d come back. Seems like a pickup/to-go place. While I sat and ate there 4 different people came to pickup food.

John, you are too damn good to me. You and your freshly grilled juicy chicken and beef kabobs will haunt me in my dreams… and your goddamn hummus… your goddamn hummus, will be the last thought on my mind before I sleep tonight. too dramatic? Mehh I got the chicken kebab plate today and the portions are well worth the price. My plate included two hot skewers, hummus and bread, salad, and rice that they accidentally plated but I am so thankful they did! Holy hell, that was a complete meal. Or two. I had enough leftover for dinner. I’ve been here at least 3 times and have not been disappointed. One ishhh — parking is petite. There’s only 2 spots, but I’m sure you can find street parking ez pz.

Craving for some Mediterranean food? Visit John’s Kabobs for authentic Mediterranean! Monterey Park comprises mostly of Asian cuisine so John’s Kabobs is an alternative if you’re looking for something different. We ordered the Lamb, Beef and Chicken Kabob plate. Each plate comes with slices of pita bread and a side of your choosing: rice, salad, hummus or fries. A cup of Tzatziki sauce is also provided on each plate and went well with the meat. Tzatziki is made with strained yogurt mixed with cucumbers, garlic, salt and olive oil. Everything was delicious. Even the sides were highlights! All of the meat was tender, flavorful and cooked to perfection. The portions were huge. The rice was very flavorful and seasoned. The hummus was delicious and complemented the pita bread. I’m going to even rave about the fries, they are not your average fast food fries! The fries were very crispy and probably one of the best fries I’ve had in a while! Parking is really limited. There isn’t really a parking lot so park on the street in the residential neighborhood behind the restaurant. Dining area is small but seating at the outdoor tables is available. By the end of our meal, the friendly lady working there asked if we enjoyed it and we sure did! I will be back for sure!

So nice, I came back twice… in two days! As a local gal, I’m happy to report that John’s is the place to go for your Mediterranean fix. Get the beef, chicken, and Changlish cheese. The Changlish cheese was something I’ve never encountered before and I can’t wait to have it again. It’s a fantastic side dish made with red onion, tomatoes, parsley, feta, olive oil, and served with warm pita. Hell yes! Yeah, lots of onions and garlic, but who cares? Well, I do, so bring along some floss, a toothbrush, and mouthwash. Also, super clean, friendly, and efficient. Call your order in about 15 – 20 minutes ahead if you don’t want to wait around, as they tend to get busy around lunch time. Huge fan!

Delicious! John’s kabob is definitely worth a try if you do not mind spending a couple more dollars than a cheap meal. I came to the restaurant on a weekday night and dined in. Looking for this place was a bit unusual since it is just a really small section on the road. There are literally only two parking spaces at their lot so you most likely have to park on the street. The interior is relatively small compared to other restaurants and probably only seats small parties per table. I ordered the kafta kabob plate(ground meat) with rice and hummus. The meal was delicious! It came with some pita bread which was nice and fluffy along with a yogurt to dip your meat in. The rice was so flavorful that I could just eat it by itself; and, along with that meat, it was a wonderful combination to just enjoy. Dipping the pita bread into the hummus was also a delight since the hummus was extremely tasty. Overall, the food is delicious and I would come back again but not too often due to its price.

Why is this place great? Oh just because it has my name in it! I kiiiiidding ya’ll! Unilocal Deal: $ 20 for $ 25 worth of food. Not much, but will certainly take it. Location/Parking: They’re located in a bad location. Not much of a parking lot which only provides about 2 parking spaces. Besides that there is ample of parking in the residential area. Just watch for parking restrictions. Ambiance/Décor: I actually like it. Very quiet with modern furnishings. There is also a window where you can peak into the kitchen. It makes the place a bit transparent. They also have a outdoor seating area so you can eat and enjoy your lunch Service: The staffers were attentive and friendly. Food might take longer to come out because all all their food is made to order and scratch. Food: 1) Chicken Kabob Plate: I thought the chicken kabob was decent. It was bit dry, but it did not lack in flavor. It also came with two sides… choice of salad, fries, and rice or hummus. I ended up getting salad(had a big portion) and the hummus. I thought the salad and hummus complimented my meal reall well. Loved the hummus! I was literally dunking my chicken kabobs into hummus and it made me happy! Didn’t do my happy dance that day, but I’ll definitely do it next time I go. 2) Beef Kabob Plate(friends order): I actually like the beef a little bit more even though I had a small piece. It was tender and had a lot of flavor to it. 3) Grape leaves: I thought it was okay. Not memorable for me to write about. Will definitely come to try more yummy foods.

Here’s to hoping this place sticks! What use to be Dorado Ceviche Bar has now been reincarnated into John’s Kabob. There aren’t many reputable Mediterranean/Greek places in the area so this place is in its own league. Gyro Wrap — Get the wrap by itself for just $ 5.95 or as a combo for an additional $ 2. Their pita was exceptionally thick yet soft, it was as if they just popped out of the oven fresh. The wrap was stuffed with mouthwatering slices of gyro. I was pleasantly surprised at how much meat was in there. Their tzatiki sauce was very light so don’t let the thick consistency scare you away. The wrap also consists of slices of onion and tomato, which gives the wrap some texture. Make sure you get their garlic sauce! I slabbed on so much of it in my wrap. Beware, it is strong. You’ll want to brush your teeth or gurgle with mouth wash!
