We’ve eaten here about a half dozen times and my most recent meal was disappointing. Previously I have rated this restaurant a 4 out of 5. I have revised my rating to a 3 out of 5 and might have dropped the score lower if it were not for good service and ambiance. We started with a very basic Greek salad, something refreshing for a summer evening. There was no feta and the dressing was bland. I have had much better at half the cost. We ordered the pork chop and the roast chicken. The chicken was served over white beans and the pork chop served with Boston baked beans. While both entrees were tender, they were also virtually tasteless. Maybe the meat spent too much time in the freezer. On a positive note, the bread they serve is fresh and delicious.

So it’s super exciting that Morgantown is finally catching on to brunch. Now if that would only filter down to bridgeport and not a buffet(looking at you conference center) that would be amazing. But I digress. We have been to café Bacchus twice, once for dinner and once for brunch. I will say I was a little underwhelmed by the brunch menu. Several crepes, salads, omelettes, eggs Benny, etc but nothing that really«wowed» or was unique. I take that back, I guess crepes would be unique to morgantown but our local coffee shop serves them on a daily basis so we weren’t ohing and ahing. My father had the Cobb salad as did Chris and they both enjoyed it, but was it something I would go out of my way to have again? Probably not. Also tried the rhubarb strawberry shrub and it was an indescribable taste. Neither rhubarb or strawberry was clear to me or anyone else in our party. I would definitely not order again. Dinner was a totally different experience, I loved the scallops and our wine and service were fantastic. I guess I had higher hopes for brunch. I wish I could give 3.5 stars based on our earlier dinner experience.

Wow. The Sunday brunch is great! Went two Sunday’s in a row because I didn’t realize the Bacchus burger was on the menu the first time. First week was an ABC omelet that was cooked perfectly and tasted very fresh. Eggs are actually difficult to cook well and these were fantastic! I got my burger the second week and it was also terrific. Café Bacchus understands the difference between pretentious fine dining and fantastic, fine food in a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Always love to stop in here when I’m in Morgantown.

For a college student this place is really someplace I would not recommend at all. *It is super expensive for the little variety of food they offered. An entrée was about 25 $ each which I feel was not anything special. The appetizers were also super pricey for such a small amount of food(barely a snack). *The time wait was pretty long as we waited 40 minutes for our entrees and they were not even packed with customers. *The house where this restaurant is located is an old house with cracks and poorly painted walls. *Maybe if you’re super rich and have money to spare than it is a decent place.

Blown away with this restaurant. I’ve been twice and let me say, it’s worth the price. The house is decorate so beautifully and you feel so cozy while you have dinner. I had the best sweet tea with mint leaves there once. The staff is professional, welcoming, and very polite. Everything on the menu is prepared beautifully and tastes wonderful. Highly recommend!

Ah, Morgantown! Coming from DC, it was very refreshing to visit a fancy restaurant on a Saturday night and it be quiet and not completely full. Also, we appreciated the fact that the wine was not marked up terribly. The food was delicious! My husband’s meal, especially, the duck with risotto, was excellent! The only thing was that our server was really slow.

We had a very pleasant experience at Café Bacchus. Our party of 16 was seated right away. Everything was excellent, minus the waiting. From ordering to getting our food took nearly 2 hours(though this might have been because other members of our party ordered appetizers and drinks, so they were dragging it out). I had the diver scallops with asparagus and mashed potatoes, and also sampled the chicken penne and catch of the day(salmon). Everything was excellently cooked; the asparagus perfectly tender and flavorful, the scallops cooked just enough to make them tender as well. The salmon was excellently seasoned and cooked perfectly. For dessert, I was able to try the vanilla cheesecake with walnut crust. This too was absolutely delicious. A small disclaimer, though: the price of the dishes alone do not dictate how much food you’ll get. For $ 25, I got 5(delicious) scallops, a small portion of mashed potatoes, and some asparagus. With an appetizer/salad, you’d probably be full, but with nothing else, it can still leave you hungry. Bottom line: if you don’t mind waiting some time for your food and don’t mind spending a little more than«usual», you’ll be pleasantly surprised here.

What a lovely evening! We had a rare night off in Morgantown and so got to savor our dining experience. I ordered the salmon, and they let me put a different side — a mash sweet potato soufflé sort of thing that was stellar. The salmon was so-so, well cooked but not flavored at all. The bread was absolutely amazing; everyone else really enjoyed their entrees. Dessert was a mixed bag– chocolate tart a little too strong for me but the cheesecake was devine! Pros: nice décor and dining experience, and really good food Cons: none that I can tell. Kid friendly? Not really for little kids, I would think. Overall, some excellent food at a higher order than most of the offerings in Morgantown. Recommended.

Best place for a real, adult dinner in Morgantown. Hey, I’m 33, and love coming back to Motown to get wild for football games. But that doesn’t mean I can’t have a good meal with real food(made fresh, organic ingredients and proteins) before I have 15 bud lights in a parking lot. This place is high quality, and I go every trip to Motown.

This place is so dear to my heart because I’ve been coming here since its inception. When I think of the Irish brown bread with olive tapenade, the filo parcelled salmon, the seared duck, the scallops with thai green sauce and everything else that I’ve had here, I’m filled with true nostalgia and appreciation that this establishment was the restaurant that started my passion for fine dining. Although I haven’t lived in Morgantown for years, if this place is exactly as I remember it, you will not be disappointed.

Best dining experience in Morgantown! The décor is very charming; it used to be a private residence that has been converted to a restaurant. The service is great! Most importantly the food is wonderful. The chef does amazing things with the dinner entrees; I loved the stuffed pork chops. There are also seasonal sorbets with ingredients from the chef’s garden! The Must-Try item is definately the apple butter ice cream with applejack caramel and topped with bacon!

My wife and I went here for a special dinner and Café Bacchus did not disappoint. This place has a nice variety of food which tastes amazing. Fresh bread and tapenade is delicious. The décor is a bit different but we enjoyed our time there. Staff was great and service quick. Cannot wait to go back again.

Why is it so hard for Morgantown restauranteurs to manage a bit of class and sophistication? Café Bacchus is one of the«nice» places in town, and while some of the food is pretty good, they don’t have much of a clue about how to put together a fine dining experience. Not saying this as a snob — but when you’re paying top dollar, having CCR and Eric Clapton blaring on the stereo(I’m a fan!) is not conducive to a relaxed and grown-up meal. The tables and chairs belong at a diner. Service was pleasant, but given that we were one of only two tables, verrrrrry slow. Salad was wilted and over-dressed. On the other hand, my main — the coffee/chipotle prime rib? — was excellent, as were the sides. Someone clearly knows what they are doing in the kitchen — so keep it simple, remember that less is more, and try to maintain a more grown-up atmosphere. This is not Buffalo Wild Wings!

Some of the best food in Mo’town and you can forget(at least for a little while) that you’re in a dumpy college town.

I’ve eaten at Café Bacchus a couple times, and the food has always been excellent. Unlike Rani, I didn’t mind the décor — I was there for the food, and the food is fantastic. I also appreciate that they employ a sommelier and have a wide wine selection.

This is Morgantown’s place for forward thinking cuisine with a strong fusion tilt that are generally well-executed. It has a variety of dining atmospheres but I prefer the two front rooms and their juxtaposition of rustic and refined over the back room with the bright blue walls and chaotic lighting(read: tacky). I’ve enjoyed several good meals here and have had most success with the less adventurous dishes, like the filet. There is usually an Indian-fusion item on the menu which has been consistently disappointing for those who like Indian food… they don’t get the rice right and the flavor is very American… but good as a vegetarian option. Be prepared to have a lot of time to talk with your immediate dining companion(s) as the service tends on the slow side. You will also be aware of the conversations at your neighboring tables.
